KJ sure struggles to shoot

I'm going back to last year with my gripes on KJ, but I'm much less concerned with his lack of scoring at the 5 spot than I am with his lack of defensive rebounding ability at the 5 spot. He is still the worst defensive rebounding big man I've ever seen and that's going to bite KU in the ass at some point in an important situation.

Probably the most drastic shooting change I’ve seen made at KU. Forgot about that.

Not on thread but my great nephew is AA running back for SDSU. Great kid.

We don't look nearly as offensively challenged as it looked like preseason. Of course, we're not playing UNC.

Best case scenario at the 5 spot to me is Clemence and Udeh splitting those minutes and KJ playing the 4 spot because his rebounding deficiencies are much less important if he's next to Clemence or Udeh who are both capable rebounders.

Our Farmer is a team player.

My only issue with Gradey is defensively so far. Seen about 5 major gaffes but obviously he is good and should continue playing.

I'd rather one or two tune up games to before playing a really good team. And most of KU's non-confernce cupcake teams are usually still against teams projected to finish near the top of their leagues so usually a 1st round NCAA Tournament caliber of team.

It’s going to take awhile for people to figure out Gradey is a scorer than can shoot and not vice versa

@wissox I like these kinds of games at this point in the season. NDSU doesn't suck, decent size, so fun opponent to play while I'm still trying to figure out who these players are and see what they can do. I can look at different things when it's not so close. I think the coaches have more opportunity to experiment with lineups when there's a buffer in the score.

These are also the games where bench players develop and become contributors in more important games down the road.

It's better than being Louisville and losing to Bellarmine.

Yes - this time of year I love… games are fairly low pressure, the kids look like they are having fun, usually lots of playing time for everyone, and we usually win big… and a long ways away from the high pressure meat grinder of division play.

Seems to me that everyone who has played has hd some good minutes --Jalen rollin - - -Udeh showing some promise- - good to see JO - -hit a couple of treys - - Nice start for MJ - -The big thing on this though I think is we got some really good defense - aggressive s all get out

I really think the Bison's poor shooting is more from KU's excellent defense and less about their lack of skill

ND State was losing to Arkansas 34-26 at the half in their game.

Never noticed how big MJ Rice's ear are. Get him a magic feather and he could fly above the floor and core with ease.

I'm assuming this team still has plenty of room to grow defensively this season as they get more used to playing with each other. This team seems like it has a chance to be the best defensive team in the country come tournament time.

This is a smart, fast team with tons of weapons. This is a team that defends very well. Lots to like...

I don't think anyone is asking Juan to take a lesser role. Admiring Pettiford's breakout doesn't detract from Juando. We all love Juando, and recognize his value to the team.

@Jethro I’d say I’m here for Bobby coming up big so that maybe we can keep Harris at closer to 30 mpg instead of 38. Long term wear on guards can be a factor.

This game has been good for the young guys. Some low pressure playing time.

I don't know if you already have tickets for tge game in March, but looks like UT has already sold out Moody Center for the season. Looks like I'm gonna have to hope resale tickets go down because I'm probably not going to spend $200 per ticket to go to that game even though it's likely the only regular season I'll be able to make.

Not a good week to be a Summit League team. Creighton clobbering North Dakota by 31 at the half.

And UMKC lost to D-II Lincoln the other night.

Jmo but I think we end up playing 9 guys by Jan/Feb and my guess is Juan/Gradey/Kev/JWill/Udeh/Bob/KJ/MJ/Joe. Joe kind of a Remy lite situation where you see if he is on that night and go from there.

Minutes were even wonkier than I thought after checking the box score.

Adams with 2 rebounds in 17 minutes is meh

Pettiford with 8 assists in 19 minutes is great. I really hope he develops a 3-ball

Zuby had 7 boards in 7 minutes. Nice rate.

now guys this is all in fun just tongue in cheek so here it is : - -Ku has lead in thee two game in minutes 76:09 seconds - -compared to the opposition - -0.27 seconds lmao

Our FT shooting is abysmal. 50% tonight, 53% the other night. Small sample size and I know we won't shoot 50% for the year but it's a little bit concerning after having 4 good FT shooters move on.

A few late night, post game thoughts:

Jalen’s stroke looked extremely good in the first half. Pure, with great form. That form broke down in the second half. Exciting to see that pure form is there. Hoping he sees the tape and realizes it’s important to maintain.

Jalen is a huge key to us winning. Duh.

Gradey, for three! He contributed in many ways tonight. Some defensive flaws, but he’s young, learning.

I am not smart enough to see how McCullar has such a great defensive reputation. other than basic things like shooting and rebounding, it’s hard for me to see. Easier to see guards at the top of the key and big guys play good D.

Udeh is fun. Seems like the life of the party!

I like KJ. But KJ can’t shoot. KJ can’t rebound. What does he do well? what does he do well to start and stay on the floor?

MJ Rice just got a new fan! There will be some growing pains with his youthful exuberance, but OK. Dude looks like a baller. I see him being very important by year’s end.

We played some crazy ass lineups tonight. I assume it was Norm looking to see who would step up and be a reliable scorer for the second unit.

Easy breezy win.

Oh, and Wissox was hitting the bottle tonight! 🥃🏀😆
