Aug 24, 2014 12:00 AM #1

CLEVELAND — Olympic champions together, Kevin Love and LeBron James spent the last 30 days waiting to become teammates again.

Cleveland has craved a championship for 50 years.

One drought over. One to go.

On the first day they were able to complete the long-discussed blockbuster trade, the Minnesota Timberwolves sent Love to the Cavaliers, who capped a spectacular summer on Saturday by acquiring the All-Star power forward as another running mate for James to make them instant title contenders.

James didn’t waste any time in making Love feel at home.

Officially rooting against Cleveland now.

Aug 24, 2014 02:39 PM #3

Ditto.

Aug 24, 2014 03:00 PM #4

@JayhawkRock78 second ditto PLUS, can root for Mario!!!

Aug 24, 2014 04:57 PM #5

@Crimsonorblue22

Indeed, we can now root for Mario and not feel bad about it.

How embarrassing will it be when San Antonio sweeps Cleveland in next season's finals? or will Cleveland even make it to the finals with a POd Miami Heat and a solid Chicago Bulls in the way?

Curious... will this convert anyone on this list to become a Timberwolves fan? Or will you just root for Wiggins, the way I assume most root for T-Rob or the Morri.. etc.?

@bskeet I am a fan of any team Jayhawks play for!! Good news, there are quite a few!

Aug 24, 2014 08:58 PM #8

@bskeet I am not a T-wolves fan but I just might be this season. I rooted for Miami purely based on Mario and still will. Its the same with Minnesota. Cant wait to get a Wiggins jersey!
and a Joel "Lion killer" Embiid jersey

I'm rooting for Joel even though he can't play. He was the most exciting player in years: incredible talent, surprising improvement, a real character on and off the court. Wiggins was boring in comparison. Frankly, we would have been better off in the NCAAs if Wiggins had been hurt instead of Joel.

And I'm not just saying that because he can tweet in French! Besides, his French and mine have little en commun.

Totally agree. With both he and Wiggins, I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful fanship. While I certainly root for Xavier, JuJu, Arthur and other short timers, these two are something special and I really hope we can watch them in the league making noise for years to come.

I said it before but I'll say it again, if Pau and Rose are healthy for the playoffs the Bulls are going to stomp out Cleveland and it's going to be awesome.

On an issue like the off-season aftermath of Hurricane LeBron, reading comment after comment that I can get behind here really gives me the warm fuzzies.

If that is the case, does the LeBron legacy takes a huge hit? Wade has won a title without LeBron (with Shaq) but all of LeBron's titles have been with Wade...and Bosch...and Mario...If the Heats wins a title without LeBron, what does it say about James and Wade? Interesting...

Aug 24, 2014 10:41 PM #13

@JayHawkFanToo Definitely if the Heat beat Cleveland it will be shocking and won't happen unless LeBron implodes. If the Bulls beat them this year they will explain it away with the team not gelling or something else other than LeBron. But next year if Cleveland doesn't get out of the East it will certainly be a massive disappointment.

Aug 25, 2014 02:13 AM #14

@JayHawkFanToo I believe it does take the hit, even if temporary. IMO Mario is waaaaaaay under rated. Kid always plays big time D annually leading the L in steals per min, knocks down the shots, makes all the assists, & takes every bit of always available crap from the glamour boys & says absolutely nothing negative. PLUS GIVES BACK HUGE to his community (Lawrence) , even if it is not his home town. My kind of JAYHAWK in a heartbeat or a marathon....

...........GO MARIO 2008 FF MVP !! ROCK FRIGGIN' CHALK !!!

Aug 25, 2014 04:59 AM #15

@globaljaybird

Copy and paste.

And Riley agrees with us.

Mario is part of the future of the Heat.

Not Lebron.

And not that knuckle headed young guard everyone was wet dreaming on last season.

Riles is doing what he always does. He is putting the pros out there that can get it done, while he tries to add the pieces they will need.

And not that knuckle headed young guard everyone was wet dreaming on last season.

I hope you're right as I think Mario is better than Napier and without LeBron we see a recognition of Mario as a man in his prime. Think Mario leads the league in steals next year? I'm buying.

Let's not forget that the Wolves are quietly assembling a young but very talented group of players that might surprise. What would it say about Love it the Wolves make the playoff without him, something he could not do in 6 years?

Aug 25, 2014 10:10 PM #18

" I said it before but I'll say it again, if Pau and Rose are healthy for the playoffs the Bulls are going to stomp out Cleveland and it's going to be awesome."

Yah, totally agree. The Bulls will be deadly if Pau and Rose are healthy.

@JayHawkFanToo I love this question. It'll say Wiggins is a bad ass. I don't think it's possible this year given how loaded the West is but it could happen in a OKC type of time frame... Durant Westbrook and Harden... A few years to get a few more assets. But if it happens in the next three years it would make people ask tough questions about the Love trade.

Aug 26, 2014 01:08 PM #20

@approxinfinity If memory serves me correct, he led the L as a rookie right outta' the chute, which was actually his 4th year of college. Damn impressive to those who value D...& Jayhawks. ROCK CHALK !!
