Life-changing son: Kansas' Keon Stowers alters family cycle

LAWRENCE β€” Keon Stowers was watching television on the couch when he heard the knock at the door.

Two men in suits wanted to talk to his father, Desmond.

Seventeen-year-old Keon had seen family members arrested before, and on this day, his father surrendered himself willingly and without a struggle.

For the future 6-foot-3, 297-pound Kansas defensive lineman, the incident was just the latest in a string of childhood letdowns. As he watched out the window, getting one last glimpse of his father being taken away, Keon figured he’d see him tomorrow, maybe the day after.

@kubuckets wow! Awesome story! Any doubters on the effects of sports and special teachers on young people, need to read this story. I'm going to the game on sat, hoping these kids see some long overdue success! Rock Chalk!

Great perspectives from all the key people in his life. It takes remarkable determination to change course and then stay on that course for good. Here's wishing Keon much luck in his continued success (and the Jayhawks too!)
