Semi Bad Look for KU Athletics
Aug 21, 2023 11:18 PM #1

Sunday KU's womens soccer team played up here in Chicago at Loyola. I wanted to go, but driving up to the north side for a 1PM kickoff after noon church dismissal was too much.

KU won 4-1 after trailing 1 nil 10 minutes into the 2nd half.

So what's embarrassing? Looking at the KUAthletics womens soccer page I noticed a picture with a caption that identified Loyola as the Wolfs. I'm like did the Loyola Ramblers change their mascot? No. But whoever wrote the photo captions must have googled "Loyola mascot" and just wrote the first thing he/she saw which is the mascot for Loyola, New Orleans!

Where was this? That's actually kind of weird. Sports Info people are super geeky about this kind of stuff. I read an article today that I know said Ramblers. Plus "Wolfs"? Not Wolves?

OK... guess they dropped the Hobo rambler mascot I remember (growing up in Illinois) and now Loyola Chicago has a wolf as a "mascot".

Could be confusing for an intern.

@DanR Here's where I saw it. https://kuathletics.com/kansas-vs-loyola-chicago/ ↗

Good research on the mascot, so the caption writer isn't totally off kilter.

Ooooh....multiple times in captions. They should definitely fix that.

Well, my wife and one of two stepsons pronounce it "woofs", so there is no limit to crazy derivations of words.

@wissox they use a wolf as their logo mascot even though it's not their nickname.

I’d give a pass if they spelled Wolves not Wolfs lol

@kjayhawks My wife and I were trying to figure out the proper spelling, we would have gone with you!
