mmmmm... with that soundtrack, I can close my eyes, smell the pizza wafting up from the Pyramid.. and feel the sticky floor at my feet.... and I'm there!

Maybe add "Red Headed Stranger" by Willie.

@JayhawkRock78 I'm tired this morning. I spent half the night playing those songs in my head. I love pretty much all of those songs you listed. It would be interesting (to me, anyway) to have the posters here list 10 or 15 ( or 26! ) of their favorite songs. Music is my passion after KU. I have NO musical ability, but I sure do love to listen to it........

Yesterday was my first day back after 9 days across the pond, so I blew the afternoon off to make the list and listen-The nice thing is you can find just about all of them on YouTube rather than search through albums & records.

Nice addition-I tend to sort my county songs in Louise's (formerly on Mass.) Along with your tune, Are you sure Hank done it this way? - Bob Wills is still the King, Faster Horses, Goodhearted Women.

And I have another group of bands for The Mad Hatter where you could dance. The Commodores, Barry White, The O'Jays, Stevie Wonder, KC & the Sunshine Band, The Spinners, Earth Wind & Fire, Harold Melvin and the Blue notes.

Put this all together with some music from the 60's and 80's and you've got something very special. IMHO, our children were robbed of good music.

And I. Would love to hear about favorite tunes from anyone else per Nuleafs post.

I am from a different generation than most of you, and I think you're right about being robbed of good music.

Growing up my dad had the some vinyl record that my brother and I absolutely wore out!

Marty Robbins-Gunfighter Ballads

Johnny Horton- Greatest Hits (North to Alaska, Sink the Bismark, Battle of New Orleans, etc.)

Tom T. Hall- Children songs (I got this on CD for my 7 year old)

Also my dad was a big Charley Pride and Ricky Skaggs fan. I love hearing songs like Roll on Mississippi, Cotton Pickin Delta Town, and Highway 40 Blues, etc. As a kid, our first family vacation was taken in a car with an 8-track player! ;)

For a moment, I thought you were a family member because my dad had both the Marty Robbins and Johnny Horton albums-- and he was a Charley Pride fan.. and we had an 8-track player... Yikes!

But to my knowledge he was not a Ricky Skaggs fan.. so maybe our dads were just separated at birth.. ;-)

You brought back. Some great. Memories. I love the artists/ songs you named but I can't get my kids interested in all of then. Still, I still play my favorites with my kids in the car-my daughter is 16 and I am near 60, yet we play Beachboy's songs in the car driving home from soccer games and sometimes sing a few together.

As for my son we connect on a great album called "Round Up". With Erich Kunzel & the Cincinnati Pops. Look into this CD and it's follow-up. It is phenomenal.

Man, my head is spinning trying to put together any kind of a list of my favorite songs. It's impossible - there's too many. Here's a list of some; if I made a new list tomorrow, it would probably be completely different, but just as heartfelt. Here we go:

I love these kinds of threads. I'm just guessing many of the posters on here are older than me and I'm kind of an old soul, so it's interesting to hear about all this stuff. I thought about doing another thread about stuff, big or small, that we each do that is nostalgic or not main stream anymore. I'm not sure if anyone would be interested or not? I do a lot of little things the "old way" just to keep it alive and to teach my children. Plus most of time, the "old way" is the better way.

Do you know that Black Magic Woman was written by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac and recorded by them in 1968, 2 years before Santana made it super popular?

I like most songs by Chicago, Eagles, Santana, CCR, The Doobie Brothers, Three Dog Nigh, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Styx and ZZ Top to name just a few. Jim Croce is my favorite singer with Billy Joel close behind.

@JayHawkFanToo Those groups you listed are why I said at the beginning of my post that picking "favorites" is an impossible task. Every one of them have great, great songs that deserve to be in a Top 100 (or whatever number you choose) list. I thought all night about groups and songs that should have been on that list !!!

I just now thought about Frank Zappa. Talk about an under-appreciated musician. Especially by the media. Oh my goodness. The guy was literally a musical genius. He was light years ahead of most other musicians (IMO). The only thing is, the songs that he made that were tame enough for radio, weren't that popular. Then I went and left " Hotel California " off the list. Really?? Lol - " IMPOSSIBLE TASK *

@nuleafjhawk Like your mix a lot. One note, check out Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah if you haven't heard it. I like Rufus, but Buckley's version (the original) gives me goosebumps every time.

Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah is one of my favorite songs and very inspirational . Along the same lines I like Over the Rainbow by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole, a truly beautiful interpretation of the song. Something that both songs have in common is that the arrangements are extremely simple and basic (guitar and uke) and the song and the voice are the stars.

@approxinfinity & @JayHawkFanToo - I listened to the JB version this morning and liked it very much! Thanks! It's funny, to me, that a song like that can be sung by many people/groups and sound wonderful, but there are others that I don't want to hear anything but the original.

I watch a lot of singing shows (sorry....) The Voice, American Idol, X-Factor - the judges are always encouraging the contestants to make the songs "their own". That's OK with some songs, but almost blasphemy with others. If it's one of the "iconic" groups - The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd - those kinds of groups - LEAVE THE SONG ALONE!!! Don't mess with perfection. lol I'm sure there are others, but right now the only "icon" song that I can think of that I really like done by someone else is Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help From My Friends". Oh, and " She came in through the bathroom window". And...
