LAWRENCE — The Allen Fieldhouse trash cans went unused for the first day of Kansas basketball boot camp.

The two-week conditioning program — a staple of coach Bill Self’s 12 seasons in Lawrence — began Monday without any Jayhawks losing their breakfasts.

“We made it through day one just fine,” KU sophomore forward Landen Lucas said.

Freshman Kelly Oubre — sitting next to Lucas at an interview table Monday afternoon — chimed in as well.

“You’re right,” he said with a smile. “We’re tough, man.”

I like basketball

I remember fall track practice at Memorial stadium and seeing the boot camp bBall players running down the sidewalk below the campanile down to the track and up the and down some of the stadium stairs. We track jumpers ran those stairs too but we had to wear 40 pound weight vests so I don't have any sympathy for bBall boot camp. (Memories from an old fart.)

Yea! Basketball season!!!
