Can anyone explain how this game got on KU's schedule? Of course schedules are made years in advance, but the Lions were NAIA until 2022 and are just now FCS in the Ohio Valley Conference. 3-4 years ago, I remember wishing for an openning game like this, but now I just don't see any benefit. I was also remembering this morning the Beaty years when the starting QB wasn't announced until game time. It's just amazing what a transition Coach Liepold and staff have made to our program.

The FCS games are not always added years in advance. KU currently has their FBS non-confernce schedule set through 2032 and have their FCS games scheduled from 2026-2029. KU currently doesn't have an FCS game scheduled from next season yet.

That reminds me of the basketball exhibition game with a Kansas small college team. I love that game. I love how hard the small college players play in our first game.

Aug 25, 2024 04:06 PM #4

@stoptheflop I like it too, especially Washburn. Do you suppose that game will disappear the more teams we add?

Aug 25, 2024 06:12 PM #5

@Crimsonorblue22 it’ll still be good to have a tune up. Might as well use it to benefit an in state school. Hopefully it continues.

Aug 25, 2024 07:40 PM #6

Easy win, semi-local, cheaper than buying a G5 game.

No, very few schools FBS schools don't schedule an FCS game. Only 15 FBS schools aren't playing an FCS school this season and USC is the only FBS school to have never played an FCS game.

I probably wouldn’t know Lindenwood existed if not for a gal I was fooling with in highschool going there lol. This maybe the easiest game we have ever scheduled they are most likely worse than the 2016 Rhode Island Rams that we beat 56-6. It’s always tough with no preseason in college and no FCS schools in Kansas. SEC teams are notorious for having garbage non conference schedules. I’d be shocked if we didn’t win this game by 60 points. Good news maybe Jalon only has to play a half to knock off rust.

I was just listening to Micheal Swain , he was doing a small podcast about the preview and talking about how things have changes for KU . & being able to see it in the betting lines. ---KU opened up he said by Fan Dual KU opened up as a 43 1/2 point favorite.

He said it would be interesting to see what happens during the week. -In comparison last yr, can't remember who it was but we open as a 32 1/2 favorite - --the over/under is 58- -making the score like 51-7 - -yippee let the Season begin

I assume the Lindenwood game will be treated like an NFL exhibition game: starters the first Q, 2nd string Q2 and reserves the rest of the way. Coach Self plays the starters most of the exhibition game, which always surprises me. I fully expect that Coaches Lipold and Grimes will show some mercy at The Mercy Park stadium.

This is not an exhibition game, it counts for real and Leipold will treat it as such. If KU builds a huge lead, then Leipold will start subbing in back ups. If the game stays close, then the starters stay on the field for the entire game. KU's schedule is very soft this year so they'll need some style points to help with rankings.

Aug 27, 2024 03:09 PM #12

@Texas-Hawk-10 It's nice to need style points instead of being the source of someone else's style points!

Aug 27, 2024 04:03 PM #13

@Texas-Hawk-10 My thought was to let Jalon knock the rust off, but not risk injury againt the Lions. Of course I know the Lindenwood game counts. Jeez.

Aug 27, 2024 05:05 PM #14

@stoptheflop I don't mind it in basketball since it's considered an exhibition, but Lindenwood does nothing for us in my opinion.

Aug 27, 2024 05:10 PM #15

Well I just learned it's in Missouri, so I won't be satisfied with it being just a warm up game. Let's go all Georgia Tech over Cumberland on them and beat them 220-0.

Aug 27, 2024 06:07 PM #16

See I hop we can get Jalen out s possible without injury -- with Jalens injury history as you know we are only one hit away from our season probably taking a complete 360.- -I just keep seein during the course with opponents also knowing his history that someone - - -on a given night gonna take that late hit on Jalen trying to take him out - - -Jalen get's hurt and season is over for him --just a re-occurring nightmare I have-- I so hope I'm. - wrong. Jalen does his business and turns it ov to Ballard / Marshall. We don't need him getting in hurt like a game like this. Protect your starter.

The Lindenwood coach and Leipold have known each other awhile and the KU staff goes to a "megacamp" there. For more, see:

I’m both excited and nervous over Jalen playing, he has to for sure but yes one hit on him and we are gonna be lucky to make a bowl game. I’m also excited at the same time to see him play and hopefully return to form because he can be a special player. Also something that hasn’t really been mentioned yet is new offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes gets to debut
his offensive for the first time. Coach K was brilliant and is IMO one of the best young offensive minds in the game. Well wishes to him at PSU, the pre snap movement and glitches were an art.

Been hearing from one close to the program watch for more shots down the field ---stretching the field, using our receivers a little more

We ready! 💙❤️

Aug 29, 2024 02:35 AM #21

Protect all key assets so they're healthy when the competition increases next week at Illinois, a game that I now have tickets for with a bunch of KU friends!

Aug 29, 2024 05:13 AM #22

Fun!

Aug 29, 2024 09:52 AM #23

I sure hope the ESPN+ broadcast is decent; I always have to mute the announcers about 10 minutes into the game. I greatly look forward to everyone's comments during the game. Bring on the Lions.

Aug 29, 2024 04:14 PM #24

Today the big thing to look at is how the lines on both sides of the ball play. LT is a question mark. DE is a question mark.

The two freshman edge rushers should get big minutes and I’m hoping to see flashes from Dean Miller.

I also will be watching for any changes to the scheme with a new OC.

Otherwise stay healthy.

Aug 29, 2024 04:33 PM #25

I just hope both teams have fun.... 🙃

Aug 29, 2024 04:36 PM #26

@Gorilla72 I like the jerseys.

Aug 30, 2024 12:19 AM #40

A little sloppy but we’re getting whatever we want

Aug 30, 2024 12:20 AM #41

Really sloppy but as to be expected for a first qtr, Skinners fumble hurt

Aug 30, 2024 12:23 AM #42

Need to run the ball

Aug 30, 2024 12:24 AM #43

Wow JD can’t look down your receiver like that smh that’s middle school stuff

Aug 30, 2024 12:26 AM #44

Two turnovers already.

Aug 30, 2024 12:26 AM #45

Oh shit our 2nd TO against a barely FCS team

Aug 30, 2024 12:29 AM #46

This is the KU football we all know and don’t love so far lol. Did they let Beaty back on the side line?

Aug 30, 2024 12:33 AM #47

That’s Neal biggest issue zero top end speed

Aug 30, 2024 12:42 AM #48

Aug 30, 2024 12:54 AM #58

Reaper came to play and finally a decent play from JD. Keep getting the rust off

Aug 30, 2024 12:57 AM #59

The defense is stepping up now

Aug 30, 2024 12:59 AM #60

We’re getting whatever we want. Blowout imminent

Aug 30, 2024 01:03 AM #61

@FarmerJayhawk ya just had that to be expected first QTR rust. Pretty upset about the turnovers especially that pick

Aug 30, 2024 01:08 AM #62

Anyone know where these refs are from?

Aug 30, 2024 01:08 AM #63

@stoptheflop I’d guess the guarantee rate bowl

Aug 30, 2024 01:09 AM #64

Aug 30, 2024 01:19 AM #73

Did Jalon ever run?

Aug 30, 2024 01:22 AM #74

@Crimsonorblue22 said in Lindenwood Lions:

Did Jalon ever run?

No, he's rolled out, but not kept the ball. Sacked once.

Aug 30, 2024 01:23 AM #75

I don’t think Jalen will be running a ton this year, stinks because he’s arguably a better runner than passer

Aug 30, 2024 01:32 AM #76

I'm hoping Cole Ballard plays a bunch in the 2nd half. He needs more game time if he has to step in at QB1.

Aug 30, 2024 01:42 AM #77

@stoptheflop what worries me is the offense is night and day more dynamic if Jalen uses his feet too. I get not running tonight but we will need his feet to win games.

Aug 30, 2024 01:43 AM #78

I'm glad he's playing behind 1st string line.

Aug 30, 2024 01:43 AM #79

Don’t read into anything tonight. The playcalling is more basic than hooked on phonics

Aug 30, 2024 01:46 AM #80

Colorado losing at the half to NDState!

Aug 30, 2024 01:47 AM #81

Well they WERE losing

Aug 30, 2024 02:07 AM #84

When was the last time KU shut a team out?

Aug 30, 2024 02:11 AM #85

@Texas-Hawk-10 good question, I’d guess 2007 or 2008

Aug 30, 2024 02:18 AM #86

Looks like last time KU held a team to single digits was Central Michigan in 2018.

Aug 30, 2024 02:20 AM #87

Last shut out was 29-0 against Louisiana Tech in 2008.

Aug 30, 2024 02:25 AM #88

@Texas-Hawk-10 well the idea of it was nice lol not like letting up 3 matters with 3rd team in

Aug 30, 2024 02:29 AM #89

Hopefully we never wear these ugly Carolina blue unis again

Aug 30, 2024 02:37 AM #90

Perfect openning game. Now, let's get ready for Illinois

Aug 30, 2024 02:52 AM #91

I would Pretty much basic standard offense, no showing anything special - - pretty basic say that what was about what you would expect for he 1st game of the year Glad no injuries,. A little surprised Ballard came in quite that soon but was OK, now get after Illinois

Aug 30, 2024 03:45 AM #92

@Kcmatt7 did you enjoy the game? Good crowd? Wanna hear your thoughts.🌾🌾🌾

Aug 30, 2024 02:10 PM #93

I was shocked the game wasn’t sold out, you could buy tickets up to 20 minutes before kick but they were still $120 apiece.

Aug 30, 2024 03:04 PM #94

@kjayhawks are the cheapest tickets 120 before the game? How’s the cut on this?

Aug 30, 2024 06:10 PM #95

@Crimsonorblue22 outside of two plays it was really a “perfect” first game.

Passing game is going to light the world on fire this year. Put $5 on JD for heisman.

Aug 30, 2024 06:16 PM #96

@Kcmatt7 💥 wow! I like. Were the tickets before the game 120 or more? Ballard looks pretty good too. There was no pre or post game show, hope that gets fixed, I need that. If anybody hears about that.... Glad you got to go!

Aug 30, 2024 06:31 PM #97

@Kcmatt7 said

I love JD as much as the next guy but he’s a long ways behind statistically to start the year. Sanders threw for 450 yards and 4 TDs last night. JD only completed 60% of his passes, had a terrible pick and a QBR of 51.7. That’s not a good line by any stretch of imagination. We will find out a lot next Saturday in Champagne.

Aug 30, 2024 06:38 PM #98

TBF his PFF grade was like 90

Aug 30, 2024 06:58 PM #99

@kjayhawks This was never going to be a big stats game for Daniels. Sanders put up big numbers because he played a full game and CU needed every bit of his performance to win. It'd be a big problem if we needed JD6 to put up big numbers last night.

Aug 30, 2024 09:06 PM #100

@Texas-Hawk-10 regardless you have to put up big numbers to win the Heisman

Sep 02, 2024 08:55 PM #101

Have seen multiple ranks and they all have KU up to # 2o now. -- -Also saw that Draft Kings has an opening line for our game and they have us as a six point favorite.
