Finally, finally, finally, the season is here. Fresno's QB will be Kurt Warner's son, who played at Temple and Rice before this season. ESPN has KU as a 12 pt favorite. Fresno St has a new coach, Matt Entz, who had a lot of success at North Dakota St. Here we go: new season, new stadium; I'm really hopeful KU wins the close games this season and gets to a nice bowl game. Fresno St is always competitive in the Mountain West and usually gets to a bowl game. Quite a change in opening opponents from Lindenwood.

It is officially game week my friends. Lots of questions will be answered on Saturday or clues as to how they will be answered. Can JD and Hishaw stay healthy as the heart of this offense? How will the offensive line fair with lots of uncertainty outside of the center position? Who will emerge at the wide receiver position? How will the secondary shake out having several key players that have moved on?

I think the game will be settled by less than 10. Fresno is hard to get a reading on with a new coach and QB but have won 9 games 3 of the last 4 years.

I don’t think Fresno will be all that good. They’re a run heavy offense and our strength will be the front 6. I don’t love our OL but have some faith it’ll come together.

I've heard complaints about season tickets tripling in price. I haven't heard how season tickets sales are going and I haven't heard how many tickets are sold for Fresno St. I sure would like to see a full stadium; expecially since it now holds 10,000 fewer fans. I doubt very many Fresno fans will be attending.

I’m not super worried about the running back position myself. Especially if Hishaw can stay healthy I think him and Williams will be a solid 1-2 punch pending on the lines play. I’ll definitely miss Neal out there but an average RB can look pretty decent behind a solid line. Which is a big question mark to me right now. But id say our guys are above D1 average in the back field

@stoptheflop it will be weird to see where it goes on price I feel like basketball tickets were the same last season with the price going up with less seats but it was harder to sell out. Felt like I seen more empty seats in Allen than ever before. I remember getting football tickets for $15 10 years ago. To me if you don’t have a full stadium you open it up for free in the second half.

It will be kind of the first 'real' football action for football starved fans across America so a lot of eyeballs will be on us on Fox. ISU-KSU play at 11 from Ireland, and we're the only other p5 game on the day until late at night when Stanford plays Hawaii. While a win is paramount avoiding an embarrassing showing is also important for people who will either make fun of us 'same old KU' type stuff or say 'wow, maybe KU football is really back'. I think we've proven ourselves over the last 3 seasons fairly well, last years regression might have turned off the believers from the year before. In other words, it's an important game, but i think Lance is ready and will have the guys ready.

Replacing the beer garden, our stadium now has 4 clubs: leaving off the naming rights, they are the Limestone Club, Jayhawk Club, 1921 Field Club and the Patio. There are 2200 seats in the clubs and 800 seats in the 40 Suites. Sales of the premium seats have been much better than estimated by millions of dollars. I have to change my mindset of sitting in decent seats(between the goal line and 20 yd line) for the lowest price. Attending a sporting event now is more about the overall experience with actual cost just a momentary distraction.

I’ve found my couch is a superior experience 99% of the time. Better view than the best seats in any stadium. Company is more intelligent. Price is right too. I’d still go if it was closer - as for the price yikes it’s around $1,000 per decent ticket (first 10 rows behind the bench/good game) to see the Chiefs. Not sure about the minor league (ncaa) pricing.

For my family going to KU football, the objection is still about the parking. I don't use the shuttles because I want to leave when I want to leave. I don't mind walking 10 or 12 blocks, but the rest of my family complains. I've heard there are plans for underground parking, so we'll see. I'll be watching Fresno St from my family room where I can yell and fuss without others looking at me like I'm crazy. By the way, I'm usually wrong when I see the replays. But, I still yell when the call goes against us.

Pumped to see the guys tonight. My hopes are high. A lot of faith that this coaching staff is just doing everything the right way and that we are a bit of a sleeping giant program in a wide open B12.

Gameday!! Always exciting to see first action of the year and unlike many years, a decent opponent and the return home to Lawrence for our first real home game in 2 years. As for ticket prices, 32 on Stubhub that's what I almost always do these days as there's always someone who needs to sell.

This is an important game. Although I believe we'll win Fresno is not the pushover that we'll see next week in Wagner, and in two weeks we got Missouri. A loss today really puts us behind the pack in terms of rankings especially if we (as expected) lose to Missouri.

Will also be interested to see how the stadium looks/sounds. I'm sure Fox will try to emphasize that aspect of things.

Well friends I think that went about as well as we could ask for. Completely controlled the game from start to finish and JD 6 was near perfect. Those numbers won’t have anyone screaming heisman but they will win games with that level of efficiency. Especially when you consider he had 13 turnovers in the first 5 games last season. Zero turnovers and 3 take aways always makes me happy. I got to give the defense some major love I thought this game would be back and forth for the most part with us getting a few late drives to put it on ice. The overall team speed of the defense looks good to me and I think that was a major issue a year ago. I think this is good to build off of with Fresno likely being the 3 or 4 easiest game on our schedule.

I think we really got vanilla after going up 31-7 early in the third. 2 plays from it being 45-7 with the Marshall stop at the one and Hishaw not getting the face mask call that sets us up inside the 10. Lance is very classy I don’t think he’s the type to ever run up the score. We could’ve pushed hard and won 52-7 and beat our chest but it really doesn’t change how I feel about the game. Man Jeff Grimes was such a shit show last year. Offense looks so much more in tune.

Offense looked good, defense was great after the first drive, and KU needs to cut down on penalties, but too many penalties seems to be life with Leipold.

@Crimsonorblue22 I know you mentioned that in a previous post and when you weren’t on here, I figured that that you were there. I remembered after I had posted the question. I’m glad that you were able to take family with you and to meet 2 upstanding KU players.

How did you like the new stadium?

It’s so nice and I didn’t see all the new artwork or historic pieces. We parked about 3 blocks north of 9th. Had both sons, 1 DIL, 4 yr old, 2 yr old, 9 mon old. 6 grade boy. Missing 1DIL and 8 grade gdaughter. Herding cats! They loved the fireworks and Big & Baby J and the flyover! Oh and the makeover on the Big Jay jet flyover on the Jumbotron.
We were up really high, I kept looking for the elevator! It felt weird, so steep! We were in the shade. Couldn’t have asked for better weather in Aug.

2 missed 2 tackles right off then settled down and looked really good and had a great pic. D scared me at the beginning. Would like to go again.

Penalties have pretty much always been an issue with Leipold. That's just going to be a reality with this team.

Eh, that’s probably exaggerated in terms of penalties. Under Leipold we’ve ranked 3rd, 44th, 67th (the bowl game probably dropped us like 20 spots lol) and 16th in terms of penalties per game. It could be better sure but not usually a major concern.

@Texas-Hawk-10 agree, those are really about the only thing that if a person wanted to gripe about I think we had about eight holding calls or seeemed like it , although the TV commentators questioned some of those calls. Overall== = =I'll take it. I think before it's all said and done our defense is going to be pretty salty. Very aggressive, they fly to the ball, like last night DL play was solid

Strange schedule this year; 2 games played before Labor Day. And why Wagner College? Other than extra revenue for KU- I'm assuming, neither team benefits from this game. At least Wagner, enrollment 2,000 is somehow a D1 school. KU needed to schedule Wagner during the David Beaty years, instead of Costal Carolina, which is ranked in the 100's this year. Oh well, the Wagner game is a breather before going to Mizzou.

Maybe Fresno State's big win over Georgia Southern helps KU in the polls. I thought Fresno and Warner at QB looked pretty good when KU played them. I was disappointed with KU's play against Wagner. But, it was Wagner, so KU's players probably didn't care either.

@stoptheflop I thought we played pretty well, all things considered. The starters were done - early 3rd quarter? Plus its hard to get up for an obvious inferior team - ask North Dakota 😅
