The weight looks good on him. Will he play for KU this summer?

Feb 13, 2015 04:36 AM #4

I think the players have to be Americans-- like born in the US. JoJo probably will want to play for Cameroon national team in the future, so I don't think he or Wiggins are likely to be on that team. (I would love to be wrong about this.)

@bskeet you are right.

Feb 13, 2015 04:47 AM #6

Ben and maybe Tarik?

Feb 13, 2015 05:00 AM #7

@wrwlumpy It'd be unlikely that Sactown would give Ben permission. Tarik is a maybe because his contract isn't guaranteed, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Actually, there is a real chance that TRob could become available because Portland is passing on re-upping his contract. He might want to put on a big show before he tries out on the agent market.

@konkeyDong

I believe that is a limit on how far removed from college you can be (less than 2 years???), so it is unlikely that TRob would be eligible...but I could have the time wrong.

Feb 13, 2015 05:38 AM #9

@JayHawkFanToo The limit wasn't years removed, but age (and I think you have to take a class within 3 months of the games or something), and I don't remember exactly what those ages were, but I do remember that one of the fine journalists at the LJW confirmed when it was announced that KU would rep the US that TT and TRob could both theoretically play for KU as long as they enrolled in a summer school class.

Feb 13, 2015 05:38 AM #10

@JayHawkFanToo for some reason I thought TRob could play, but don't remember what the age was. He would have to take a summer class.

@Crimsonorblue22 Jinx ;)

Feb 13, 2015 05:40 AM #12

@konkeyDong guess we're reading the same things!

Feb 13, 2015 05:51 AM #13

@konkeyDong

It is actually both. This link ↗ show the eligibility requirements. I am not sure if just taking a summer course counts unless it is towards a college degree, which I seem to remember reading somewhere else had to be undergraduate. McLemore would be eligible since he is still working towards his degree and if TRob is taking classes and making progress towards a degree he would also be eligible since he did not graduate.

Lord in Heaven!!! Can you imagine Thomas Robinson doing a cameo in a KU uniform again? The strongest post player Bill Self has ever had
That young man took us to the NC game, & his heart and fire + the same in Tyshawn Taylor has been sorely missed. Add those 2 to this (or any) Self roster, & we get deadly in a hurry. Unbeatable. And can we hope TRob lands at a better location & fit than Portland?

Got a special, special spot in my heart for that '12 RunnerUp squad, alongside the 08Champs.

I was just having that fantasy play-out in my head as I read the thread! Good God! T-Rob working inside with the shooters around him would be fun to watch.

I can't decide what is the design on the back of Embiid's t-shirt, either an arm with a bulging bicep or a gigantic chicken leg...

Feb 13, 2015 06:33 AM #17

@ralster TRob could use a break, a shot! Maybe this years team could really understand what a motor and heart mean.

Feb 13, 2015 11:55 AM #18

@wrwlumpy Yeaaaah!! go JOJO! See, all that crapola about JoJo gaining weight earlier? It was BS. I knew he would take off whatever he gained when he was hurt and mourning for his bro.

Re World University Games: TRob, come on home! We don't know which Tyshawn might make a show. But TRob, we KNOW!

Feb 13, 2015 12:55 PM #20

JoJo, on the frontside of that t-shirt you might print, "Jayhawks, 2014-2015: THE MISSING LINK."

Feb 13, 2015 02:05 PM #21

@JayHawkFanToo

Well.... it says "Popeye's" on the other side... so... :-)

But seriously.... where is all the fat on this boy I've been reading about?

Roster limits

KU will be able to take a roster of 12 players on the trip. Because of the uncertainty of one-and-done players these days, that might leave a couple of holes.

However, because the World University Games are open to players 18-to-25, (born between Jan. 1, 1990 and Dec. 31, 1997), Self said he could fill his roster with former Jayhawks who fell in that age range.

“We could potentially take ex-players as long as they’re enrolled in a class,” Self said. “If our roster is 12 that would not be an option, but if our roster is 10, we could literally have tryouts of ex-KU players to see who best fits our team to give us a better chance to have success over there.”

No Mykhailiuk

Because the Jayhawks will be representing the United States, no foreign-born players will be allowed to join the Jayhawks in Korea.

That means no roster spot for KU newcomer Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, who hails from the Ukraine and is expected to report to campus later this summer.

“Sviatoslav will be playing with his Ukrainian team,” Self speculated. “If you’re not American-born you’re not eligible to play for the USA Team. If you were to look at one negative, that would be the one negative, that we could not have our entire group of guys together, potentially, but that’s a very minor thing.”

Funding

KU athletic director Sheahon Zenger said the cost of the trip would be split between KU Athletics and Basketball Travelers, Inc., which helped select the Jayhawks.

Regardless of the final bill, Zenger said the opportunity to have KU, both as a university and a basketball program, represent the country in something as special as an international event was well worth it.

“We’re all so proud of our history and tradition here, and this just allows us to put that out there on the world stage,” Zenger said.

When I saw the headline, the first thing I thought was JO-JO WHITE??

Yes, I'm that old.
