AN INSTANT CLASSIC

Not the prettiest game but everything was left on the court, As Patton said, "God help me, I love it."

The BENCH, THE BENCH! HUNTER-LANDON-DEVONTE.

JAMARI TAKES OVER FOR PERRY AND STARTS YELLING AND LEADING, AND SLAMMING. THEN FRANK BECOMES THE GM THAT CLOSES THE DEAL. All with Perry in the locker room.

Lot was riding on this one but none better than miszery.

Mar 04, 2015 05:17 AM #4

Bill likes ugly then apparently. Gotta love the passion in the 2nd half but really...

So I gave up at 2:30 left in regulation. I headed to the garage with my head hanging. A little bit latter my wife comes out and says the game is in overtime. I'm like honey I'm not in the mood, and she says no really. So run back into the house hell ya. :) Rock Chalk

Mar 04, 2015 05:19 AM #7

Wish we could see the presentation.

Mar 04, 2015 05:19 AM #8

Second game in a row that we won it at the FT line. I'm not a big fan of that being how we plan to win. Will take that over a loss, but come on...let's find an actual offense we can execute with some level of success.

Mar 04, 2015 05:20 AM #9

@DoubleDD Can't ever give up.

Mar 04, 2015 05:21 AM #10

@wrwlumpy
AMEN!

Mar 04, 2015 05:21 AM #11

@RockChalkinTexas

Lessoned learned. :) Thank God for DVR. LOL

@wrwlumpy Where do you suppose @Crimsonorblue22 is?

Mar 04, 2015 05:24 AM #14

@Bwag Arguably, FTs are the type of offense that is easiest to improve in the short run. Or are you referring to drawing fouls being fool's gold?

Mar 04, 2015 05:26 AM #15

@betterfireE Relying on a 80% FT % to win the game.

Mar 04, 2015 05:28 AM #16

The Missouri game meant the most, but to see a line which had at one time, Svi, Devonte, Hunter, Lucas and Brannen able to come from 16 points down to pull it out in overtime with JAMARI playing the game of his life, with Lucas blocking the final shot before overtime and landing flat on his back, with Hunter being our only scoring offense for a six minute period. I'm sorry, but that is the hardest fought game by both teams benches.

Mar 04, 2015 05:29 AM #17

@Bwag Good point. But we played HORRIBAD and still managed to come back.

It wasn't like the ISU game, where they played essentially perfect basketball in the second half. We played ugly, ugly basketball with our backups and still came through against great 3 point shooting.

Mar 04, 2015 05:29 AM #18

@Bwag @betterfireE 81.3% versus Tx and 79.1% tonight.

Mar 04, 2015 05:33 AM #19

@betterfireE Granted and thankfully so. But I don't think I've seen that translate in 1 and done tournament games when things are going well. Seems the player psychology is all different. Definitely take the win ugly over a loss. Will anything we did tonight carry over except play damn hard all the time? Maybe that's enough.

Mar 04, 2015 05:33 AM #20

It was as if clenching a tie made us relax in the first half. Then the subs said, "Hey we FRicken care!"

Mar 04, 2015 05:36 AM #21

@RockChalkinTexas I'm betting she's there til they turn out the lights.

Mar 04, 2015 05:36 AM #22

No way I thought we could win after handling the pressure so poorly and then losing Perry then having Wayne go out. Like the Coach always says, if we put you on the floor, be ready to play.

Mar 04, 2015 05:38 AM #23

Of games that we have eventually won, I think that was the most resigned I've been in the final 2 minutes of regulation since the NC in 08

Mar 04, 2015 05:39 AM #24

@bskeet my sentiments exactly

Mar 04, 2015 05:41 AM #25

....there was just no reason to believe that we would win, after witnessing the first 35 minutes.

Mar 04, 2015 05:42 AM #26

You suppose after 11 in a row, and especially this one, those of us who are doubters, even myself sometimes, have finally learned our lesson? Or will we be back here next year wringing our hands, worrying, doubting and complaining as usual?

Mar 04, 2015 06:27 AM #27

@DoubleDD honey!!!

Mar 04, 2015 06:30 AM #28

@RockChalkinTexas w/oubre!!! Ha ha

Mar 04, 2015 06:32 AM #29

The two streaks I'm most glad are continuing after tonight:

  1. 32nd straight final home game victory (dating back to 1983)
  2. Self still never swept by a B12 team
Mar 04, 2015 06:33 AM #30

@bskeet Almost forgot about the sweep thing as that network brought it up as if it was gonna happen. Not this year.

Mar 04, 2015 06:34 AM #31

@Crimsonorblue22 Top 10 Plays of the Day coming up. That one super jam by Jamari better be there.

Mar 04, 2015 06:35 AM #32

@brooksmd I'm on it!

Mar 04, 2015 06:35 AM #33

It was awesome! Hope it's on!

Mar 04, 2015 06:36 AM #34

@Crimsonorblue22 See that leap by the Maryland player? Amazing.

Mar 04, 2015 06:38 AM #35

@Crimsonorblue22 Just read an email from my sister in Topeka. Said the game was pathetic and going to bed. Wonder what she'll think in the morning. lol

Mar 04, 2015 06:50 AM #36

@brooksmd and the guy walked! I probably would have too!

Mar 04, 2015 06:51 AM #37

@Crimsonorblue22 I probably would've had to change my drawers. lol

Mar 04, 2015 06:52 AM #38

@Crimsonorblue22 He should've tried the shot and got the 3 FT's.

Mar 04, 2015 06:53 AM #39

@brooksmd it was pretty!!

Mar 04, 2015 06:56 AM #40

@brooksmd I thought Perry was done for the year, thought his lower leg was hanging. Do they have MRI at AFH?

Mar 04, 2015 06:57 AM #41

Could you see what happened?

Mar 04, 2015 06:59 AM #42

@Crimsonorblue22 Yeah. Him and Lucas went up and when they came down LL landed on his knee. To me it was bad but didn't look really bad. Don't know what capability they have in AFH as far as MRI. But like it was pointed out, he came back out without crutches so that was good.

Mar 04, 2015 07:00 AM #43

@Crimsonorblue22 They've been showing it on E*** when they show the game hilites.

Mar 04, 2015 07:01 AM #44

@Crimsonorblue22 Game hitlites up in a couple of minutes.

@wrwlumpy @jaybate-1.0 Gives hard currency to Jaybates theory of 'Bad Ball"

Mar 04, 2015 12:20 PM #55

@Lulufulu No that refers to Jaybate's medical condition.

Mar 04, 2015 02:11 PM #56

From what I've seen so far, the general emotion taken from last night's game is one of elation. ?

Am I the only one that is still seething that we got into an 18 point hole - at home?

I'm very glad we won and I guess it shows that these guys can get tough and fight back, but I sure would like to see just one game this year where we bolt out to a 10 point lead and win by 20.

Mar 04, 2015 02:12 PM #57

Huggy bear said "There are some things that happened that are just hard to explain". That sir is why it says Pay Heed all who enter. Beware of the PHOG

Mar 04, 2015 04:59 PM #58

I sent the picture of all 10 championship trophies with #11 sitting there to the sports talk radio guys this morning (104.9 The Horn)

with the caption:

How KU Storms The Court!

and they talked about the photo and said it was sent by me on the air. Several guy friends of mine emailed and called me to tell me they knew it was "me" they were talking about.

Both of the guys also said HCBS SHOULD BE COY and not Scott Drew based on what Coach did with such little talent and marveled at what that streak/record means in today's era.

Mar 04, 2015 05:10 PM #59

@wrwlumpy

Ah, yes, the medical condition schtick. I love it when the underbelly surfaces in too short of succession for comfort. Always shortly after lackeys ply rhetorical devices old as public relations. ;-)

Mar 04, 2015 05:14 PM #60

@RockChalkinTexas wow! Really cool!

Mar 04, 2015 05:18 PM #61

@RockChalkinTexas Yeah, after re-watching the last couple of minutes of reg time and the ot (for about the 3rd or 4th time) I noticed there didn't seem to be any security keeping fans off the floor. "Dat's how we roll in da Phog."

Mar 04, 2015 05:28 PM #62

@brooksmd No need for any because AFH FANS are the best in the LAND.

Mar 04, 2015 05:54 PM #63

Huggy says: "We deserved to win". Surely he knows this, but some may not "It's not always the team that plays the best that wins; But the best team almost always Wins!"

Mar 04, 2015 07:05 PM #66

@wrwlumpy And Bill Self got twice the amount for winning the League ;-)

Mar 04, 2015 07:34 PM #67

@RockChalkinTexas I think Huggy should have to give his 25k back after blowing an 18 point lead.

Mar 04, 2015 08:27 PM #68

@jaybate-1.0That's what she said!

From ku sports

On Twitter: KU’s 11th-straight Big 12 title has been a popular topic on Twitter.

“Talk about DOMINANCE/what about the job Bill Self has done in Big 12 play/Rock Chalk Jayhawk faithful help them come back v. WVU,” wrote ESPN’s Dick Vitale.

“KU’s 11th-straight Big 12 crown is one of the most remarkable streaks in all of sports,” wrote Seth Davis of Sports Illustrated.

“I value league championships more than the randomness of NCAA results — to win 11 in a row, never having a down year is spectacular #kubball,” wrote Doug Gottlieb of CBS sports.

“One for the toe: Kansas clinches at least a share of its 11th-straight Big 12 title. That’s Wooden-esque,” wrote Dennis Dodd of CBSsports.com.

“Congrats to Bill Self and Jayhawks on 11th Big12Conference title. Coaching, players and fans all play big part!” wrote ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla.

“That’s 11 in a row for the Jayhawks. And that’s also ridiculous,” wrote Myron Medcalf of ESPN.

“ELEVEN, congrats to them KU boys,” wrote former KU guard Tyshawn Taylor, who is playing pro ball in Puerto Rico.

“Congrats to @KUHoops on yet another Big 12 title. #MoreRingsThanFingers,” wrote Cole Aldrich of the New York Knicks.

“If you are persistent you will get it ... if you are consistent you will keep it #11 Straight #Big12champs #MoreRingsThanFingers,” Tweeted former KU guard Tyrel Reed.

“Yup. Yup. Only people getting hurt are the other 9 teams in the conference and their fans,” wrote former KU forward Mark Randall, including a picture of the 11 trophies sitting on a table at center court of Allen Fieldhouse following the KU-WVU game.

@DoubleDD

"Lessoned learned. :grinning: Thank God for DVR. LOL"

And lesson learned to add at least 1 more hour to the record time!

Had I not done that, I would have missed it.

Mar 05, 2015 06:55 PM #72

I re-watched the game last night and it ended before anyone scored in overtime. Same thing happened to the last possession against Mizzou.

Mar 05, 2015 07:05 PM #73

Its been a mixed bag for me this year. I've never seen SO many KU games during the regular season before. And for my money I've never seen us win so many playing poorly so often. I guess I need to be less critical and applause a team that finds a way to win when things aren't going well.
