I love our Jayhawk. It's fun to wear KU gear in another country and answer all the questions about our bird. It truly is one of the most-unique mascots out there.

Knowing that, I figured Kansas HAS TO be at the top in the nation for sales volume of licensed products.

Shows what I know.

There is just no accounting for taste. The Big 12 does host the school that leads the nation. Perfect if your favorite color is vomit, or the same as your parent's '70s couch that you set by the curb and no one took it.

Really? We are only 4th in our own conference? Behind Daniel Boone?

@drgnslayr I just got my new 11 Straight t-shirts in the mail today. One for me and one for my son in Australia. He has to answer lots of questions when he goes out about that funny looking bird.

@brooksmd Got mine today too. Just in time to wear Thursday.

UT gear is HUGE and they protect their brand, even in court. They went to court against a car wash here that had their front entrance similar to the UT Tower design and have made b-b-que joints that had "Longhorn" in their name and even moving companies remove it.

@drgnslayr refuse to believe this! Bernadette gray-little said in a graduation speech that we Jayhawks should always wear our Jayhawk gear when we travel, you almost always get a Rock chalk wherever you go. I know this has happened to me and my relatives have some good stories too.

@RockChalkinTexas The NFL tried the same thing with the Saints and the use of the fleur di lis. They tried to come into New Orleans and shut down anybody using it. Settlement was reached as long as it wasn't black and/or gold I believe.

@Crimsonorblue22 I always wear my gear everywhere I go (well, if I'm wearing Tshirts and casual stuff, that's about all I have!) I got a "rock chalk" down at the Tulum Ruins in Mexico a few weeks ago (had a KU cap on) and a "Hey--Go KU!" in Paris last year on the metro... that one surprised me because I forgot I had a little Jayhawk pin on my camera bag. Someone actually came running out of a bar in Prescott, AZ, one time to give me a high five when I was visiting my brother. Pretty fun!

What chaps my @ss about this list is Missouri is actually two spots higher up the list than KU.

@DanR that's why I refuse to believe it!! Cool stories!

Mar 11, 2015 12:41 AM #8

@DanR
The way I figure that is Mizzou has millions more residents than Kansas with near zero competition. Kansas has very few residents and KSU takes a hunk out of the percentage. If you run the numbers on state populations I bet there are some interesting shifts

Overall-football is still king. Next- notice how the SEC ranks high. Florida has pro teams but a big population. Most the other sec don't have pro sports to compete with.

KU has KSU, the Chiefs, the Royals, Mizzou in KC, the race track...

North Carolina has at least 7 million people living there, etc.

@JayhawkRock78 I choose not to think about it! Gone!❤️💙

When we had our stellar floor seats at an LSU game a few weeks ago, (the night we met Shaq and got punched by boxer Roy Jones Jr.) my wife and I ended up on the big screen. I had my Jayhawk hat on and took it off and held it out for the camera to see. Just doing my part!

Mar 11, 2015 01:08 AM #11

I read over that list. Some strange things. No Kentucky, USC and The Ohio State University. They must (?) have some other licensing agreement. I can't imagine Delaware sells more than OSU.

Mar 11, 2015 01:10 AM #12

@wissoxfan83 good job!! Was it the kiss cam?

Mar 11, 2015 01:10 AM #13

@wissoxfan83 another reason to not believe it!

Mar 11, 2015 02:09 AM #14

drgnslayr: While watching a recorded installment of Rick Steves' travels in Europe, I paused and said to my wife, "Did I just see what I think I saw?" She said, "I think ya did." I rewound, and there, as Rick is doing voiceover of his tour through a museum set in the home where Anne Frank's family hid for two years, is a little kid wearing a Jayhawk T-shirt! Amazing.

Mar 11, 2015 02:14 AM #15

@EdwordL good Jayhawk eye! They're everywhere.

Mar 11, 2015 03:33 AM #16

I've seen Jayhawk gear all over Europe. Not every day... but frequent enough to know the Jayhawk Nation is out there everywhere. Maybe I have a little guy in my head looking for it. I can't recall seeing lots of other schools. Once in a while, Texas.

I wear something KU constantly. The winter is my KU jacket, every single day. Summer... mix up t-shirts. My wife buys me more because she gets sick of always seeing the same ones. She hasn't figured it out that it is my strategy so she keeps buying me new stuff. Hope she doesn't read this. Naaaa.... she's gone to bed already!

Mar 11, 2015 03:42 AM #17

@drgnslayr I don't think you should say anything about that lil guy in your head!

Mar 11, 2015 04:46 AM #18

@drgnslayr

WVU, S.Carolina, and Auburn higher than KU? Amazing!

Mar 11, 2015 01:14 PM #19

@JayhawkRock78 My favorite T-shirt:

" Missouri - 6 million people. Five last names "

Mar 11, 2015 01:47 PM #20

@nuleafjhawk

"Mizzou Antlers - More Toes Than Teeth!"

Mar 11, 2015 04:53 PM #21

I am curious if the royals run to the series decreased revenue on local sports teams apparel.

Mar 11, 2015 09:52 PM #22

@drgnslayr That just doesnt seem right, I would also think KU would be tops in selling stuff for the conference at least!

Mar 11, 2015 09:54 PM #23

@Blown I know my family bought more from royals and Jayhawks, this year!
