KU in its 26th straight NCAA tourney
Mar 21, 2015 01:45 PM #1

It would have been 29 or 30 would it not been for the trouble that Larry Brown got us into after the '88 title. What other high elite major team can say that? None, thats how many. Not Duke, UNC, UCLA, UK, IU. None of the bluest blue bloods can say that! Sure UK and Duke and UNC have a couple more titles than KU and I would rather have the ring myself but that stretch of tourney appearances has got to be just as impressive as Coach Self's 11th straight conference championship.

Believe I read that UNC holds the record at 27 straight appearances.

Got to believe we are a lock to beat that, unless Cliff's situation causes some collateral damage.

I also read something remarkable the other day. We've been a top 4 seed every year since 2001. That's 14 seasons of top 4 seeds. That's 14 straight years of being one of the 16 best teams in the country. That's 7 years longer than the next team on the list. In fact, as I recall, 24 of those 26 years had us as 4 seeds or better.

All well and good but we're still on the short end of rings.

@SoftballDad2011 Didnt UNC miss the tourney in the last 5 years or so?

@brooksmd agreed brooks

@Lulufulu

Yes, and they lost in the NIT to Dayton...

@Lulufulu - I should have clarified.

The UNC streak of 27 straight appearances is not an active streak. Just the longest streak on record. I'll see if I can find where I read it so you can have the link,

See page 9.

Pretty neat read for the statistically minded.

Again, lots of great stuff.

I really like the model of consistency of Kansas basketball depicted on page 52.

And the info on page 49 about vacated wins is certainly interesting.....especially when the Calipari / Big Blue Nation contingents try to tell us how corrupt Kansas basketball is.
