@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks for posting. I honestly did not know that Coach Cal had his own website.

This may be the biggest load of b*llshit I have ever read.

For those of you who don't get a chance to read this lovely look back at the Kentucky season it is certainly Coach Cal doing his best as a salesman and not an actual coach. Apparently his priority at the beginning of the season was to send 8 players to the NBA? That is the priority? Because you are player first? This really gets down to the reason why so many high level players have gone to UK over the last few years. It is simply a stop off on their way to the pros. I know this has all been obvious to me for years but it is really horrifying seeing it in print.

This at least reminds me that the Kentucky loss this year will probably always and forever be my favorite game that was not a Kansas win.

@joeloveshawks I'd like to say he's digging his own.....

May 05, 2015 04:32 PM #4

Well, I think he is directing to his 2016 targets in view of the mounting failure to stack his 2015 recruits. If he is able to stack again in 2016, I bet he will come up with a new name for the playing time sharing scheme (which is named Platoon this year).

Must say that the guy is good at what he is doing.

@Shanghai_RCJH if he's still there.

@Crimsonorblue22 I think he plays multiple hands. This kind of self reflection is good PR.

Almost every coach has their own website, some of which double as the page for the basketball program, others that direct link back to the athletics website (as coach Self's page does).

Everybody has always known that Calipari was putting his players with legitimate NBA aspirations in a position to get to the NBA. He has been saying that for years. The honest truth is that a coach that isn't saying that isn't being honest with himself, or isn't being honest with his players when he recruits them. Even Coach K has changed his approach to OAD's, understanding that you can't tell an OAD to stay in school when it is to their benefit to leave early.

@justanotherfan Bill's people need to update that.

@justanotherfan Good to know. Somehow I totally missed that coaches have these. Thanks for pointing this out.

I do have to disagree that coaches have to sound like this. I agree that they are all salesman. You have to sell the program, campus, chance to play in the NBA, et cetera. But I don't hear other coaches (including Coach K) hyping the NBA dream so much. Part of the reason that I think this is a problem is how many of these kids are going to float around in the D League after leaving too soon. Teague is a good example. I think Dakari Johnson is going to be another example. These guys are simply not ready. How does Teague benefit? Will Dakarki (slow, fat, can't shoot) benefit?

@justanotherfan

Don't give me that billself.com crap. We all know that we are all part of Bill Self's real website. In fact, one of us is probably Bill Self. I think it might be @RedRooster as he thumbs up all of our expert opinions.

Cal: Like any player who says they want to come back, I don’t say, “Great, I love it!” I say, “Tell me why you want to come back,”

Unnamed player: Uhm Because it is "college" after all and you are supposed to be there for at least 4 years and I want to get a degree?

Cal: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...OK, now tell me why you Really want to come back?

I had to contain my mouth area to prevent vomiting.

What a load of horse dung!

This car salesman thinks so much for his players that he allows 9 McDs AAs on one team? Why didn't he take some of his signees and let them know they just didn't have enough minutes and since he is always only thinking about the benefit to the players he is letting them out of their LOIs? That's what a coach who thought of his players would do. Let a few of them go somewhere else where they could have made an impact.

"Cal: Like any player who says they want to come back, I don’t say, “Great, I love it!” I say, “Tell me why you want to come back,”"

If Cal was really thinking of his players wouldn't he say... "Lets send you through a NBA evaluation and talk afterwards. We need to have a good idea if you'll earn a guaranteed contract or not. We need some risk assessment and make sure you understand it all before YOU decide if you will return or go pro."
