Since I'm so often wrong about things, I want to break my arm patting myself on the back about Perry Ellis.

Dude is a stud and ten years from now, when a poster asks who is your favorite all-time KU team, Perry Ellis will be right up towards the top.
I agree! We are prisoners of the moment and because this core has frustrated us so much, Perry gets over looked.
That man can do it all on the offensive end. Post up? Check. Face up? Check. Dribble? Check. Jump and run? Check
Marcus Morris used his body better to seal and had a better turn around fade away than Perry. But Ellis shoots, dribbles, faster, jumps higher, and can face up better.

He has a pretty good supporting cast when things are going right. 6 Jayhawks averaging double figures is REALLY good! How long has it been since 6 guys have averaged double figures? The answer is IDK but it sure is nice!

What is helping Perry the most so far is he is noticeably more athletic. He gets up higher on his shot and that has helped close to the basket. Plus he's just a verteran and he knows how to get buckets.
Fraschilla made an interesting point last night. He said would you rather have Karl Towns for 1 year or Perry Ellis for 4..Let's see what Perry can do this year before truly knowing that kind of answer
@BeddieKU23 With all due respect, I don't need to wait until the end of the year. All day, every day I would take Perry Ellis over any OAD. He means more to KU being here 4 years than any one and done will ever mean to that particular school. The OAD may go on to make millions and have fame, but he is likely not really associated with the college he went to (for a few months) and probably cares nothing about it. KU will be in Perry's blood the rest of his life, regardless of what his pro career turns out to be.
@BeddieKU23 Fran has always had a bias against KU. Let's see if he says the same about Niang.
@JRyman I used to be big on numbers but I have lost faith in them over time. If you look at Brad Stevens and his coaching staff you will find a numbers guy who is probably one of the best in the country when it comes to numbers. That said there is a lot to be said about shot selection and where guys should be taking shots. I used to track it but one day I realized I was the only one who saw the numbers and HCBS wasn't using my data so WHY keep doing it because no one was going to listen to me lol
Jaybate and others have talked about the inability of Perry to play well over Big Big guys. I thought the new Jump Hook over Welsh last night showed us how much work Perry puts in to get better. He was quietly masterful last night. I also like the way that Svi keeps shooting and following his own miss to score.
I feel sorry for all the people that have said they'll never watch the Jayhawks again because the Coach is a poopyhead that doesn't give the Jayhawks a green light to shoot the three. MSU might prove to be the best thing that happened to this team. Svi is growing up before our eyes and is playing great defense.
@Statmachine stats are a good thing. To me they are best used to know what to work on and build on.
"Moneyball" is a good book and movie. But what has Moneyball won? Sure it can build you a team, but those players then have to live up to and play up to those exact numbers. No injuries. No off games. No deviation from the process. If one thing changes or deviates Moneyball doesn't work.
In basketball trying to tell a guy where he needs to shoot the ball from for better odds is a mind f&$k for a shooter. Perhaps the rest of the team too.
I'm not doscounting stats by any means as I said above they can be a great teaching tool.
That said let players make plays.

I don't think he asked the right question.

"For one year, would you rather have an OAD freshman, like Karl Anthony Towns, or a senior Perry Ellis?"
To me, that is the real question. Perry may not be as flashy, and show a huge amount of untapped potential... but he knows the system, has a chemistry with the players, and definitely doesn't hog practice time requiring the coaches to turn away from the team and help him individually because he doesn't "get it." Perry "gets it."

Correct, but I did get his point about the importance of program players like Perry and the importance they can have on a team which was his main point about Perry or Karl. I still think Perry needs to take us far into the tournament and be the key guy, the leader we need before I start splitting hairs over who's more important. Because otherwise rolling the dice with OAD's can be more important than relying on a 4 year player, its been proven it can work.
I think Fran is very good to KU, unless we are playing ISU or Oklahoma and then we turn into second fiddle.
But all in all he is very knowledgeable and supportive of KU

If I remember the story correctly Fran was doing clinics in Eastern Europe when he heard about / saw Svi.
Story went that he found out Svi wanted to play college basketball in the states. It was late spring and he knew KU had a scholarship open so he made contact with Coach Self and suggested he look in to it.

If I hear Fran say something something similar about Hield or Niang, then I will stand corrected. I just can't imagine him saying that!
Leaders must lead!! It's just that simple. Last night was a prime example of that. In times of crisis, leaders have to demand the ball and make something happen. At this point Perry, Frank, Wayne, and Devonte are the key players to go to.

there were times when Perry simply took over the game. I think that was Perry's best game ever, imo.
@JhawkAlum IMO Fran & Bilas & most all other commentators slobber over whoever is winning the game they're calling on tv. Almost to the point that some of them even sound phony, or as we used to call blatant followers when I was a kid... Peckerwoods. There is so little impartiality in any type tv journalism any more I can barely stand any of them. Everyone has to be a tv "personality" now. Bob Knight was super informative without all the overboard praise that others constantly blubber & I enjoyed him most of the time. He did have a tendency to be repetitive but I learned a lot from his presence. Used to like Gus Johnson also, but I believe he is on fox now-haven't seen him for awhile.
I sure could be confused on the account, but that is what I remembered hearing/reading.

It is amazing listening to broadcasters talk about stuff like the Diallo situation. They could have read a newspaper or listened to a Self press conference. Their information was so random and all over the place.
They kept talking about the core work was not approved by the NCAA, except others from the same school were cleared. They never mentioned Kansas having 2 independent curriculum experts refute the NCAA's conclusions.
They also kept talking how Self did not say much about it until very recently. Self told us he did not have to, heck Vitale was chanting Free Diallo on one of our first games. Self said this, he would not have to lobby, everyone else would...Broadcasters are so terrible.
