Yankuba Sima to Transfer

From ST Johns. Wonder if KU will take a look. Not a fan of the post prospects for KU in 2018 unless Carty decommits so this kid going into what would be his 4th year removed from HS in his next season playing might be a solid option to bridge to 2019 where KU has more elite irons in the fire.

@BShark do you know anything about him?

Dec 10, 2016 02:19 AM #3

@Crimsonorblue22

I think he is pretty solid from what I've seen. Better coaching would help him. 6'11'' and athletic. No idea if KU will contact him or vice versa.

Laurie Marrkaken sp would be nice about now, but he never really was a strong possibility.

@dylans

Surprising he was not on KU's radar or that he did not consider KU considering his father played here.

@Crimsonorblue22

He was just okay at St Johns until a hand injury sidelined him as a freshman. He was always more of a defensive presence, averaged over 2 blocks a game but his offense was far behind., 48% shooter from the floor and an absolutely terribly FT shooter 38%.. This year he was a 70% FT shooter so maybe he improved on that.

This year he wasn't starting it looks like from the numbers. 17 minutes a game.

Honestly he's not someone that I would be jumping up and down to get. You have to be worried that him bailing on his team this early in the season is a big red-flag and he's not a inside/out type big.

@BeddieKU23

His coach said nice things. Maybe he will be transferring down a level.

Dec 10, 2016 05:58 PM #8

@BShark

I'm sure he's also looking for a school for the spring semester as well. He is a big body and is athletic but doesn't strike me as someone KU would get

@BeddieKU23

Well I mean Evan Maxwell is currently on scholarship. This kid is much better. Depends on how the staff feels about their 2018 post prospects imo.

Looks like mid-year transferring is starting to become an epidemic. These kids have it so rough

Sima,

Isaac Copeland of Georgetown (Former 5 star recruit)

Sam Cunliffe-Arizona St (4 star recruit) and was averaging almost double figures

Harry Froling-SMU- 4 star recruit

So I've been extremely sick to the point where I couldn't really do anything.

@BeddieKU23

I was about to post some of these. Very odd.

Copeland went to Brewster and from NC area. Interesting to see if KU gets involved. He seemed to regress though.

@BShark are you better? We have a game sat! Suck it up! Jk get better

Dec 13, 2016 05:29 PM #13

@Crimsonorblue22

Unfortunately not yet. I'd like to hope it will pass by Saturday.

Dec 13, 2016 05:39 PM #14

@BShark take it easy

Dec 13, 2016 05:41 PM #15

@BShark

Copeland is an interesting take. He is big, athletic and can shoot but has never put it all together at Georgetown. Hard to say whether a change of scenery will do him good. He would have just 1 1/2 years left after a red-shirt?

Dec 13, 2016 05:49 PM #16

@Crimsonorblue22

That's about all I can do. XD

I would think so. Kind of bad timing. I would figure he must not be on pace the graduate early or he could just gut it out and grad transfer. If he'd be available for the season after next, then I think it's a solid take.

Haven't seen SMU play so I can't really comment on Froling. His numbers are bad, but he is only a FR.

@BShark

The only time I saw Froling was in the Nike Hoop Summit game. He looked pretty good but from what I've read was having problems with the speed of the game so far.

Copeland would be a take from my opinion especially with our post situation looking murky at best going forward.
