17th Ranked Duke loses at home to NC State. They should now fall out of the Top 20.

Is this the future Duke after K calls it quits?

Jan 24, 2017 02:30 AM #2

Yes this is the future. What will Puke do when they lose their "Bill Snyder"???

Jan 24, 2017 02:36 AM #3

Another FACT nobody knew til BSPN just exposed it during tonight's OU-TX game: Shaka cant coach bigs, either. TX hired Darrin Horn to coach the TX bigs, sits with them on the bench, even. Former Div1 HC at WKU and SCarolina.

So you basically have 2 similar level (mid-major) coaches tag-teaming it at TX.

Now...doesnt Scot Drew also have an ex-Div1 coach as one of his "assistants"??

Jan 24, 2017 02:42 AM #4

Duke will likely pull out major $$$ to get some name coach, or at least a proven veteran like UCLA got in Alford (Steve, not Bryce).

Royalty programs can reload coaches also...

So, in all seriousness, I wouldnt expect a "Ron Price" era at Duke after the merciful passing of Ratatuoille-Facade...

@ralster

Look at Cameron... What is the name of their court? "Coach K Court."

Their entire prestige and existence in the basketball world rotates around Coach K.

Then look at Kentucky....

SEC Basketball Impossible To Watch ↗

They are in a really horrible basketball conference. As America possibly divides over race, their conference appears on one side. They were basically invisible before Cal brought his toxicity to town. What happens after he is gone?

I'm hopeful for a nostalgic return of college basketball back to some of the old blue bloods.... Indiana... UCLA... and of course, we will remain the most consistently successful program in college basketball!

Jan 24, 2017 02:46 AM #6

@ralster

I saw that. The legend of Shaka is coming apart. I bet Texas is having some buyer remorse right about now...

Jan 24, 2017 02:46 AM #7

@drgnslayr I think this is the reason coach k had surgery!

Jan 24, 2017 02:54 AM #8

At least I gained some respect for TX kids watching them play, and now realizing they have a legit coach working with their bigs.

Shaka Smart not only isnt living up to his "legend", but also not living up to his name.

Jan 24, 2017 03:02 AM #9

DOOK....DOOK....DOOK....

What I don't understand is why VCU was better under him than Texas. So far at least. I guess we have to give him another year?

Jan 24, 2017 03:23 AM #11

@chriz Well, partly because Shaka got 1 set of athletes to buy-in on his "havoc" & surprised his conf with it, and those kids (Skeen, Rodriguez, etc) stayed all 4 yrs. BUT, he didnt even win that 2-bit conf the next 4 yrs, and now he's exposed by THE strongest basketball conference in the nation the last 2 yrs.

But as much as the Big12 is exposing him, I'd offer NCAA records as proof that his own past p.o.s. conf already exposed him. So when he narrowly beat Incarnate Word at home early this season, I wasnt surprised.

Jan 24, 2017 03:27 AM #12

People in Big12 may be figuring out Huggy's PressVA (except for Scot Drew, of course), but Im sure Huggins has more up his sleeve, alot more that Shaka

Jan 24, 2017 03:52 AM #13

@ralster

Keegan actually had a pretty good write-up on HuggyBear today. Did a good job of describing the lifestyle in WV, especially around coal. Huggy is loved by his school and his players, too. He definitely has earned my respect. I don't think his style and redneck history would work for him coaching in Lawrence, but he is perfect for WV.

I have to admit... I didn't support WV coming in to the Big 12... but I have really appreciated their basketball with Huggy at the helm. He brings a toughness that can only be good for our conference. It can't be easy for him to recruit, but he manages to build a Top 20 team just about every year.

Jan 24, 2017 03:55 AM #14

Everybody watching the Texas game right now? Allen is starting to get his game together. He is going to be a good player.

Jan 24, 2017 04:06 AM #15

@drgnslayr he had some really nice things to say about ll!

Jan 24, 2017 04:07 AM #16

@chriz

It's all smoke and mirrors. Smart never won a single regular conference title. The entire legend of Shaka is based on one lucky run in March that included the win over KU that was the icing on the cake.

Jan 24, 2017 04:08 AM #17

I actually think Texas is improving. I mean, they really really sucked in the non-con. There was nowhere to go but up.

Jan 24, 2017 04:12 AM #18

Grayson Allen. Douchebag loser.

Andrew Jones draining an nba 3 when all you need is a 2... lol. Well alright then. Nice shot!

Jan 24, 2017 04:28 AM #20

@drgnslayr Bob Huggins just called Landen Lucas "the most underrated and the most valuable" player in the Big 12. Said what he does is "incredible."

Jan 24, 2017 04:28 AM #21

@drgnslayr Interview is on 810 right now. Huggins added #kubball has the best pair of guards in the league. Said Frank Mason is "terrific."

Jan 24, 2017 04:31 AM #22

@approxinfinity

Imagine that push had come from one of the Morris twins while at KU?

Technical. Ejection. Etc. etc. etc.

Jan 24, 2017 04:36 AM #23

@JayHawkFanToo

I'm with you about Shaka and his "House of Mirrors."

But okay.... he's a coach in the Big 12 now. So come on, Shaka, work your tail off and become the image in the mirror.

It is good for all of us if Texas regains legit status. Barnes left the program legit. Now Shaka has to fight a long ways to bring it back to where it was when he took control.

Jan 24, 2017 04:38 AM #24

@ralster our loss to Shaka made him into something he is not. Is he a capable coach? Yes. Is he on the level of Kruger, Huggins and Underwood? I say no, for the reasons you stated.

Jan 24, 2017 04:39 AM #25

@drgnslayr I have no qualms with Huggins or West Virginia. I like that our guys play against them two or three times a year as it tests their poise and basketball maturity. I am sure Bill appreciates those games also, as he is all about toughness.

Jan 24, 2017 04:39 AM #26

@approxinfinity I agree - Texas is getting better. Allen is probably gone after this year - he is a really talented player.

Jan 24, 2017 04:40 AM #27

@Crimsonorblue22 very complementary!

Jan 24, 2017 04:45 AM #28

@drgnslayr Absolutely! But Seth Greenberg and Jay Williams don't use words like "thug" or "spoiled brat" when talking about poor little Grayson. They only talk about how he needs help, he's not having fun, he needs a break from basketball to collect himself.

Since when has it been the college b-ball community's responsibility to raise Grayson Allen?

They talk about how Allen is a distraction for the team. How about a distraction for the country? I want to hear more about Florida State sitting at 6-1 in conference and #9 in the nation!

You are the monopoly ESPN. You spun this Grayson Allen story! Now just like any other network that peddles fiction that declines in quality, you need to recognize it, kill it, and move on.

Jan 24, 2017 04:50 AM #29

@approxinfinity I agree, but they really can't use those descriptors and adjectives on national TV. I do think Allen should take time to reevaluate his game and what he needs to do. He is a talented player that for whatever reason thinks playing dirty is OK and he is now viewed as one of the biggest jerks in basketball.

I am with you though - this feels more like Dr. Phil and less of Sports Center. Florida State and Arizona are looking really good and I would much rather hear analysis of their games than Allen's latest antics. Enough is enough.

Jan 24, 2017 05:19 AM #30

@approxinfinity It looked to me Tripper was the instigator since he intentionally cut through the beginning of State's huddle at their bench. He knew exactly what he was doing. But I may be somewhat biased as Tripper is at the top of my players I dislike list. Looking forward to him getting his bell rung in the league.

Jan 24, 2017 05:48 AM #31

@drgnslayr It's dook. They will actually rise in the polls. The worse they play, the higher they're ranked.

Jan 24, 2017 05:49 AM #32

@ralster He used to have Lynn Dickey from TTU if that counts.

Jan 24, 2017 05:52 AM #33

@ralster Dook is one of the blueblood programs that you just can't turn down. UCLA is making some noise. The question is, can Alford sustain or does he want another brand. Dook has been grooming Jeff Capel for some time. I think he may get the nod. I would go with other dookies, like Dawkins or Amaker.

Jan 24, 2017 05:54 AM #34

@JayHawkFanToo I thought Smart was a waste of time and money. Sure, he made some noise at the mid-major level, but they totally went the wrong direction with Smart. However, anyone was better than Barnes.

Jan 24, 2017 05:56 AM #35

@ralster Self could break that press all night and hang 20 pts on WVU and Huggy will still live and die by that nasty foul fested press.

Jan 24, 2017 05:57 AM #36

@drgnslayr KU was his formal intro and break out game. It took KU to bring out his true talent.

Jan 24, 2017 05:58 AM #37

@JayHawkFanToo Another premadona created by KU. Don't forget Drew's bonus with a win over KU and B12 tourney wins. Also, Huggy's contract has a nice bonus if he beats KU too. KU is B12 bball.

Jan 24, 2017 05:59 AM #38

@approxinfinity They'll tank win it counts. I don't think Shaka has the Chakas to coach at the next level. I agree that his ride was a fluke at the mid-major level, and VCU.

Jan 24, 2017 06:00 AM #39

@Crimsonorblue22 Huggy knows talent.

Jan 24, 2017 10:54 AM #40

@approxinfinity

Every game he's doing something that just doesn't belong in this game. I'm ashamed for Duke that they let this kid play. I am truly ashamed
