Feb 14, 2017 12:43 AM #2

I'm watching tech came out ready to play, got up 11 and blew it instantly.

Feb 14, 2017 12:45 AM #3

The last foul against Tech was BS.

Feb 14, 2017 12:51 AM #4

Announcer just indicated that Baylor is the best rebounding team in the Conference; surprisingly enough and according to the conference website stats the top rebounding teams is KU.

@JayHawkFanTo Way to call out the dumba__ announcer. We get Bilas tonight since Fake Fran is doing the Syracuse game. Go Red Raiders!

Feb 14, 2017 01:05 AM #6

Well we will see how tech comes out 2nd half. Remember baylor isn't their super bowl so it's hard to imagine them pulling this one out after the game settled down.

Motley hasn't scored and they lead by 4.. Tech just isn't good enough to win

Feb 14, 2017 01:14 AM #7

Tech is cooked

Feb 14, 2017 01:15 AM #8

Feb 14, 2017 02:07 AM #25

Looks like barring a miracle Tech will win and will do as a solid...

Feb 14, 2017 02:10 AM #26

@JayHawkFanToo i wish they wouldn't announce the score until after our game is over. a 2 game lead would be sweet...

Feb 14, 2017 02:12 AM #27

Man, I hope we never start a game playing relaxed again!!!

Feb 14, 2017 04:55 AM #30

@mayjay

I you would have been at the game your wife probably would have made you leave early...😊

Feb 14, 2017 04:56 AM #31

@JayHawkFanToo Well, in that case, I defintely would be getting a car. After the divorce.

Feb 14, 2017 04:59 AM #32

A win in Waco on Saturday now effectively wraps up the Big 12 for KU. It would put them 3 up on everyone with 4 to play and a chance to clinch a share of 13 at home against TCU on the same night Brandon Rush's #25 goes up into the south rafters.

Feb 14, 2017 05:00 AM #33

@mayjay

Nice...

Feb 14, 2017 05:15 AM #34

@JayHawkFanToo Well, there are some absolutes that must be respected!

Feb 14, 2017 11:32 AM #35

So when does the "Coach of the Year" talk STOP about Drew? We previously talked about him/his team folding at some point like they have done every year. HCBS must take his place as we are on our way to get #13KUMBB. :smiley:

Bracketology: Baylor might've blown Big 12 shot, but is still a No. 1 seed for now

Baylor lost ground to Kansas in the Big 12 standings with a loss at Texas Tech

by Chip Patterson & Jerry Palm
9h ago • 2 min read Update 8h ago

The rest of the Big 12 would love to see Kansas' Big 12 conference title run stopped at 12, keeping the Jayhawks one short of tying UCLA for the all-time record of consecutive regular-season league championships. Players talked about it at the league's media days prior to the start of the season and, given the league's strength from top-to-bottom, there seemed to be a decent chance that someone (Baylor, West Virginia, possibly a mystery team) would be in a position to claim the crown.

Baylor has been a top-five team and was introduced as a No. 1 seed in the eyes of the selection committee when the top 16 teams were revealed Saturday on the March Madness Preview show. The Bears are on par with Kansas in almost every metric other than the conference standings, and they lost even more ground in that area on Monday night with a 84-78 loss at Texas Tech.

Despite the loss, Baylor will remain a No. 1 seed, according to CBS Sports Bracketology Expert Jerry Palm. Here's why Palm is not dropping them in his bracket:

Despite the loss, the Bears will remain on the top line of the bracket for now. When the committee released its top 16, chair Mark Hollis talked about how there was a clear line between the No. 1 seeds and the No. 2s. Part of that is that all of the No. 2 seeds have at least five losses. Baylor has played a strong schedule and still has a high number of quality wins, so it still belong ahead of North Carolina.

This is the best team that Scott Drew has had in Waco since the 30-win season and Elite Eight run in 2012. The development and emergence of Johnathan Motley as one of the country's best has paired with top-notch team defense to make Baylor a team that is still very capable of making a deep run in the NCAA Tournament. But the Bears have dropped three of five this month and are on the verge of missing their shot at knocking the Jayhawks from their perch.

Even though the game was clunky (53 combined fouls will do that), this is a great win for Texas Tech, an outsider to the tournament picture for now. Chris Beard and the Red Raiders fell one point short of knocking off Kansas on Saturday but got that first signature home win against Baylor.

Baylor's recent slide started Feb. 1 at Kansas, and now their only shot to jump back into the conference title race is to knock off the Jayhawks in Waco on Saturday. The head-to-head win, splitting the season series and bringing Kansas back to the pack in the Big 12 standings, can reverse some of what was lost on Monday night in Lubbock.

Feb 14, 2017 05:56 PM #37

Gotta give credit to Tech. They payed two top 5 teams back to back and came within a whisker of winning both and they have WVU next...talk about a tough stretch; however, a win over WVU most likely places them in the Tournament and the Big 12 gets 8 teams in...a historical and unprecedented 80%...WOW.

Feb 15, 2017 03:00 PM #38

@JayHawkFanToo

Yeah Tech needs to keep themselves in the hunt and maybe they can make the tournament.

Even with wins against Baylor and West Virginia their resume is super weak especially in the non-conference. They don't have a single road win either. When you can't beat Oklahoma or Texas on the road its not going to look good.

Something like 8-10 in conference play, a road win anywhere, and not losing in the 1st round of the Big-12 tournament is probably going to be key for Tech getting in. All of that seems like a stretch when they play 3 of 5 on the road against fellow bubble teams + WVU and currently sit 5-8 in conference play. The KU game might have cured everywhere if they had won.

Feb 15, 2017 07:08 PM #39

@BeddieKU23

When teams like Clemson with a 4-9 Conference and 14-11 overall record are in, a reasonable person would thing Tech. is a shoo-in...

Feb 15, 2017 07:13 PM #40

Freeman back for Baylor?

Feb 15, 2017 07:14 PM #41

@JayHawkFanToo

Michigan St as well. The bubble is extremely weak this season

Feb 15, 2017 07:38 PM #42

@BeddieKU23

Talking about Texas teams...do yo think Texas fans are wishing they had Barnes on the sidelines instead of Smart?

Worst year under Barnes: 2012–13 , 16–18, 7–11 (7th)

Current year under Smart: 10–16, 4–9

With 3 home games left against KSU, KU and Baylor and 2 road games against TTU and WVU, chances are he goes at best 2 and 3 and more likely 1-4 or 0-5 and finishes with the worst record at TU since the early 80s. So much for rebuilding the program; I wonder if Texas backers are raising money for a buyout.

Sounds like Smart let his mouth write a check his coaching skill could not cover.

Feb 15, 2017 07:43 PM #43

@JayHawkFanToo

I don't think Shaka is a great coach but I've said that since they hired him. The results surprise me because I think they have the most talent outside of KU so there is no reason they should have a losing record.

We don't see Brad Underwood, Chris Beard, Jamie Dixon struggling in their 1st year, all winning records with varying degrees of success in the Big-12 portion of the schedule. Shaka shouldn't have another year to "turn it around" but because Texas only cares about football I'm sure he gets another 10 years

Feb 15, 2017 07:49 PM #44

@BeddieKU23

Agreed. I have always said that Shaka is a legend in his own mind and the entire Shaka myth is based in ONE win against KU. He is a good Mid-Major coach but not that good at the top level. With the players he has. Texas should be a top half or even a top 3 team in the conference.

Feb 15, 2017 08:12 PM #45

@JayHawkFanToo when's his contract up?

Feb 15, 2017 08:16 PM #46

@Crimsonorblue22

Here you go... ↗I bet Texas is regretting extending the contract just about now.

Feb 15, 2017 08:16 PM #47

TEXAS: NEITHER SMART, NOR STRONG...

Feb 15, 2017 08:32 PM #48

Beatty kicked Strong's ass right outta Austin, Billy Self about to do same to Sucka Smart. Because, yes, Smart's whole "translates well to the Big12" comment was based on 1 game from 4 yrs prior. And when that game's opponent continues to kick your ass around every corner of AFH and the Erwin Center, Bill Self will remove ALL shadow of doubt. Carefully, methodically, & hatefully...shoving each syllable and letter of his phrase back down his throat. All with a sportsmanlike smile. Want to revel in a "step on the throat" W? Well, watch Self personally on this one. Doing it thru his team, like few coaches can, proving directly what Shaka cant.

Now I hope Shaka didnt go buy eel/ostrich hi-dollar boots for those Longhorn Alum mixers...I mean, he wouldnt want to piss em off any worse, since "puss in boots" is supposed to be just a cartoon, not real life! They're still seething over the Charlie Strong thing...this is bad timing brewing for Shucky Smart, as he got bad ingredients in said brew, got no secret recipe. His msg fully translated, as in code broken.
