@Crimsonorblue22

Cool pics. Given that Mason has won every other POY award already, it would be logical to assume that he will get the Wooden award as well. It would be difficult to justify giving it to anyone else since it would be contrary to what every other basketball organization believes.

I can see Ball having a very remote chance since he is from California, where the award will be presented by the Los Angeles Athletic Club and the award is named after Wooden coached at UCLA where Ball played. Of course, after the latest comments by daddy Ball whatever good will was left is probably now gone. He said that...UCLA had too many white guys with slow speed to win title... β†— You can't make this stuff up. What is funny is that his son was the only one that looked slow, getting destroyed off the dribble for 39 by Fox. What is he going to do when his son gets knocked on his ass on a hard foul in the NBA...is he going to cry racism? Unbelievable.

Monk dropped 50 on ball last year in AAU ball. Defense seems to be pretty strong with that kid.

@Crimsonorblue22 Thank you for the great pics, a very bittersweet night for some of us KU people, as final college-associated natl spotlight night for Frank Mason. Obviously his other huge day at KU will be graduation & walking down the Hill.

I watched UNCs Berry save his team (from Justin Jackson) in the NC game & continually my mind kept drifting to FM3 in same situations, time & again over the last 4yrs. Self should have chucked conventional wisdom out the window of teamball, since team was dead, and just set screens & plays for Frank to keep scoring (only 4pts 2nd half). Oh well.

My dvr is set for tonite

I subscribe 100% to your logic. Had the other major awards been split between Hart, Swanigan and several other players, I could see the Wooden Award having a bit more intrigue surrounding it. But the fact that Mason has taken all the hardware thus far, in my mind, makes this year's winner a foregone conclusion.

Yes, the ceremony is in LA and Ball went to UCLA, and politics do come into play with these kinds of things, but should the Wooden committee give the prize to anyone else I think the world would have to question the logic and the sanity of its members. How could they possibly arrive at a different conclusion than every other media outlet? Quite "Frank"-ly, unless they want their award reduced to punchline status, it would behoove them to find in favor of our beloved Mr. Mason.

Rock Chalk!

Lavar Ball nothing but a cheap PR, hype-machine for his son...the ploy worked enough to get the talking heads talking about Lonzo more.

But the fact daddyBall is NO professional at anything, is now showing. Doesnt know when to shut up. May now cause anti-Ball voting, just because of his mouth?!

And to think daddyBlowhard wanted to talk trash on MJ, one of the greatest trash talkers of all time, and who always backed it up. Which is a whole universe removed from what this Ball-parrot is capable of. My advice to DummyBall is to sit down, and before he cracks open too many Wiedemanns, to watch some videos of MJ. And think 3 times again if he really thinks he can hang with that...

Got a question. Is it just me being in a paranoia mood OR does it seem that maybe that Frank is about to get screwed out of the Wooden award? - -I just got this weird feeling watching their lead in about the Wooden award and flashing Lonzo Ball and then the interview with Lonzo and the connection to UCLA that even though not worthy some how they going to give this award to him - -They better not. just a sick feeling hope it is paranoia. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@approxinfinity He wanted it so bad. Congrats Frank on every major award. No one else at KU has done what he did in one year's time.

BIFM NPOY

Apr 08, 2017 01:49 AM #31

With other star players that have come and gone I can say "go earn the big bucks" and it feels like a decent thing to say. With Frank it feels cheap because he was never distracted in the least, never wavered in his quest for a ring this year and still has not let it go. He recognized that this was his calling, to win a ring at Kansas. While other kids were chasing whatever on the team, he was chasing a ring 24-7 and his greatness was the byproduct of that drive.

Apr 08, 2017 01:51 AM #32

@approxinfinity 😭

Apr 08, 2017 01:51 AM #33

@Crimsonorblue22 yeah.

Apr 08, 2017 01:52 AM #34

He really emphasized Devonte!

Apr 08, 2017 01:57 AM #35

Officially my favorite Jayhawk of all time (sorry Jacque, you're no. 2 now)

What a competitor! Nobody deserved to win a ring more than this guy and nobody gave it his all to win as much as this guy.

From 'No Rank Frank' to the 'Legend of Frank Mason'

PS Does anybody feel bad for Towson as how they are brought up in every conversation about Frank? πŸ˜€

Apr 08, 2017 01:57 AM #36

@Crimsonorblue22 he did. I'd imagine realizing Devonte felt terrible about the Oregon game probably was something Frank could focus on because life goes on, people are people, sometimes people come up short, time to move on.

Devonte barnburner take no prisoners senior tour next year, a la Frank Mason.

Apr 08, 2017 02:00 AM #37

@FarSideHawk lol. Yeah rough times for Towson basketball. Frank seemed to try to sidestep and not dog them tonight.

Apr 08, 2017 02:07 AM #38

@jayballer54

Apr 08, 2017 02:12 AM #39

That's just awesome. Mason is the epitome of what college basketball is and what all players should aspire to become. Nobody worked harder. Nobody is more deserving. We have witnessed the birth of a legend. Congrats, Frank!

Apr 08, 2017 02:12 AM #40

How did all of the recruiting experts miss this kid.

Find of a lifetime for Townsend.

None of us will Forget Frank Mason III

Right now, some young Jayhawk Fan is shooting alone on a court saying 3,2,1....Frank Mason for Thhhrrrreeeeeeeeeeeee

And now we know the rest of the story...

Why Frankamp bailed.

Apr 08, 2017 02:29 AM #46

@wrwlumpy I think they would agree.

Apr 08, 2017 02:38 AM #47

This is basically unanswerable, but if Frank had gone to Towson instead, would he have won all these awards if he'd played there? Would any of us heard of him? I guess it's possible, but hard to say.

Apr 08, 2017 02:43 AM #48

@wissox no

Hall of fame coach

National exposure

World class facilities

Elite strength coach

Outstanding peer leadership

@wissox heck no!

And orthopedists are getting ready for an upsurge in treating all those coming injuries from would be imitators of his drives throwing caution to the winds....because few will have his toughness and determination off the court to ready themselves for on the court.

Where is that video of his workout?

Apr 08, 2017 03:32 AM #51

@Blown @Crimsonorblue22 I'm not sure you're giving Frank enough credit then.

Apr 08, 2017 03:40 AM #52

@wissox Too many slow white kids on that team for Frank to get his points.

Apr 08, 2017 03:48 AM #53

@wissox seen Towson play in the last 4 years?πŸ€”

Apr 08, 2017 04:02 AM #54

Frank is one of my all time favorites in all sports and there is a long list to go with why. Briefly, I will always remember Frank as the reason KU beat Duke in both Champion Classics he participated in against the Blue Devils. His freshman and senior year victories over Duke are fantastic bookends to one of the all time careers at KU. My emotions were very high watching Frank tonight. Big shoes to fill in Lawrence next year.

Apr 08, 2017 12:45 PM #55

@nuleafjhawk Love that song - - one of my all time favorite groups lol. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Apr 08, 2017 01:19 PM #56

Of course Danny Manning should have swept all major awards as well. I mean Hersey Hawkins had a nice year too for a mid major, but Danny, well you all know what he did.

Frank was great for us, but with Towson he would have had to have been the best player in college bb history to achieve that success. Even with him, our teams of 3 to 5 stars never made a final 4. All Frank's assists required scorers on the other end, and his transition baskets required defensive rebounders, and drives to the basket required picks, and his outside shooting required at least some other scoring threats.

We saw what happens when your star is the only player who shows up. That would have been Towson.

Now, the story changes if he became well known at Towson his first two years, and they manage to find a big who isn't well rated but becomes great working in tandem with Frank.

More likely, he goes to Towson, sees how limited his propects are, and transfers after 2 years to KU, sits out his 3rd year, and we would still have him around next year!

Apr 08, 2017 03:34 PM #58

Apr 08, 2017 05:50 PM #59

@wrwlumpy You almost took the words out of my mouth. JoJo has always been my favorite guard at KU. Now he has been replaced by Frank. I never thought that I would see another player who was so mature both on the court and off as JoJo. Nothing ever seemed to phase him. Frank has the same type of maturity to run a team; however he has something that JoJo did not have in college and that is his ability to shoot.

Now I just hope that Frank can have the same kind of success at the next level. Frank will be a success at whatever he does because he has unbelievable drive. I don't believe that he envisioned winning awards like he has. I do believe that his self-confidence and drive did allow him to see himself as able to play at the level that he has achieved.

Apr 08, 2017 06:12 PM #60

@wrwlumpy Wayne had a decent game last night.

@Mayjay Obviously, he's not going to win at Towson like he did here, but he wouldn't have been the first person to stand out at a mid major, Stephen Curry is the obvious example. With talent and desire like he has, maybe he becomes well known there as well, I mean why not? He's obviously very talented.

Apr 08, 2017 06:31 PM #61

@wissox Towson could not be spoken of in the same breath as Davidson, and I doubt the term "mid-major" could apply to both schools. Look at their basketball pedigrees.

Towson appeared in the Division 2 tourney twice in the 70s (3-2 record, losing first in the Elite 8 and next in the regional finals), and lost its opening games in the only two appearances it has made in the Division 1 tourney, in 1990 and 91. Towson has won a total of 3 conference championships, in 90, 91, and 92.

Contrast that with Davidson, which was a pretty renowned mid-major even before Curry arrived:

!Screenshot_2017-04-08-14-17-47-1.png β†—

The suggestion that Frank could have ridden Towson to heights comparable to what Curry did at Davidson is wishful thinking, I am afraid. Curry went to a school with a history of success. Frank might well have toiled in oblivion.

Apr 08, 2017 06:42 PM #62

@mayjay thank God KT found Frank! How 'bout Appalachian state?

Apr 08, 2017 07:04 PM #63

@mayjay Not sure if you understood my post! "Obviously, he’s not going to win at Towson like he did here, but he wouldn’t have been the first person to stand out at a mid major." OK, granted I guess they're not a mid major. Towson plays in the same league as George Mason which was called a mid major when they went final fouring.

My original post was if the guy was good enough to win NPOY, he had to have enough talent, even without the elite coaching/facilities/etc, to get noticed. Not trying to start a peeing match here, just discussing.

Apr 08, 2017 07:32 PM #64

@wissox I think Frank has said many times who knows what would have happened to him if KT hadn't found him in that back gym. He's been so grateful for so many KU people in his life, coaches, academic, teammates etc. God placed him in the right place!

Apr 08, 2017 07:40 PM #65

@wissox I wasn't trying to be contentious, just discussing, too! I just think the notoriety of playing for Davidson would have given Curry a much greater chance of getting awards than anyone at Towson. But I do think Frank would have transferred out to a bigger program.

The info about Towson certainly put into better perspective for me what a major step up he took when changing to KU--more than a step, more like an elevator!
