Stony Brook Game Thread • Nov 19, 2021 01:07 AM

I think all replays should be at full speed....no slow mo. All sports that is.

Remy should absolutely start every game this year.

With 100% certainty

Remy to Kansas • May 18, 2021 09:49 AM

So I guess this cools the bill self has lost his touch, we can't recruit without snacks, or we can't get any good players because of the investigation talk....at least for a week????

This team is good. I'm not as excited about martin as everyone else is, but I'd rather have martin and yesefu over wheeler or tyty. The biggest recruiting get of this off-season is ochai and Jalen. I fully expect ochai to come back....Wilson not so much. I think he's dreaming about the dolla dolla bills y'all and he could get those in some bulllshit overseas league. I don't think wilson can compete professionally anywhere in the world right now, but is still a solid P5 basketball player.

Bye Muscadin • May 02, 2021 10:25 AM

3rd time is hopefully the charm for the lobos picking up KU's sloppy seconds. I really hope gethro plays well. I don't know why, but I just like that kid.

Sort of former jayhawk update • Apr 27, 2021 12:17 AM

Just saw on the ol news wire that formerly signed jayhawk Issac mcbride has left Vanderbilt to suit up for oral Roberts. I completely forgot about that kid.

Ochai • Apr 19, 2021 03:36 PM

@DCHawker said in Ochai:

On CBS latest top 50 draft board, there are 8 players from the B12, representing 6 different teams. 60% of the conference represented, but not KU. When has that ever happened? When viewed through the NBA talent (or lack thereof) lens, pretty remarkable that HCBS was able to coax 20 wins out of this year's team. Of course, he owns the absence of talent, as well...

I'm not sure who the 12 are....but off the cuff, I would say there are only about 8 players I would take above ochai and maybe 3 players I would take above Garrett.

I look at like this....if Austin reeves is on any list as a better player than ochai and/or garrett....the list is trash. But the draft isn't about best players....its about how a dude can fill a specific role for an NBA team. Ochai and Garrett are great college players, but an NBA liability as they can't score frequently and consistently enough. If Garrett went to a Rodman mentality where all he did was play defense and get every rebound....he could be a real special commodity; unfortunately, his vertical jump nor the ability to get vertical with merely using his calves doesn't allow him to do that. He has to jump like a frog to get any height whatsover.

Defense is also disregarded in the NBA so much. You can't block a 3 and that's 60 to even 70% of all shots. People kick out their legs to draw a foul....so you have to be 2 feet away from them. The new reality of pump faking and jumping into someone....even though the defender is 100% vertical, draws fouls....so you can't jump to block a shot. You can't guard someone close cause the offensive guy will see an out stretched arm, and hook it on the way up to draw a foul. The NBA, and the college game is getting close to a system where it's a 3 point contest or game of horse. But that my friends...is for another discussion topic.

Bryce Thompson to transfer • Apr 15, 2021 09:37 AM

I was thinking...the NBA is a superstar league. You get your big 3, fill in the remaining 12 or 14 (whatever the NBA player limit is) with role players. You're a 3 point guy, you're my I need to foul this dude a couple of times, you're my speed guy to drive down the middle of the line and throw the lob or kick for a corner 3, and you're my setting screens guy, and you're my rebounding guy,, etc. Etc. I get that these kids are 18, 19 or 20 years old....but if these kids transfer because they're not happy with playing times or roles....why would an NBA franchise invest millions on someone who gave up because of a little adversity. This adversity is gonna happen in the league unless you're a physical monster like ayton or athletic specimen like Mitchell or Tatum. Get him on board, work 20 minutes with them, and then play games. You don't "got it"....the role is taken way down to a singular task.

Why would someone even consider drafting a grimes...or thompson...or McClung? From a personal standpoint in just business, when you're looking to hire someone with very little experience....say a 28 year old...and you look at their resume and see they transferred schools twice and worked at 3 different places in a 6 year span....would you hire them? I wouldn't, nor have I ever supported such a decision because you know they'll do the same thing to you they did to the other people. You'll invest time and money to train and hone their skills only to see them jump ship at the first obstacle or "missed" opportunity.

This thompson thing really has me bothered. On the opposite spectrum, I applaud the likes of Martin, yesefu, and curry. Started in a small pond and now they are seeing what they can really do against really tough competition. Whether they went to KU, or Duke, kentucky, whatever...they are actually trying to prove themselves. Thompson and grimes did the complete opposite.

And that ladies and gentlemen, is what really grinds my gears.

Bears v. Dogs • Apr 06, 2021 04:07 AM

With all the transfers, NIL, covid, and no fans this year, I almost gave up on college basketball....but now just like every year, I watch one shining moment, get pissed cause another season is over and now I'm all in again. I can't wait till October to see the boys in blue suit up for "midnight" madness. I'll convince myself that no matter the rankings, KU is the best team in the conference and probably the nation...at worst 3rd in the nation. I'll endure the early losses with hopeful bliss that we just need to get past the Christmas break and HCBS will have this team turned around. We'll go undefeated from mid Jan to March. Lose in the 2nd round of the big 12 tournament. Then I'll fill out a bracket with KU on the winning line with a final score of 72 to 65 and hope for a 2021 Houston draw where we don't play anybody till the final four.

Jesus....I miss college basketball already and it's only been about 37 minutes.

Houston getting hammered and the big 12 represented in the championship game really pleases me.

@jayballer67 Houston defense is good when they're not playing against superior athletes from the big 12, acc, or sec.
