The Tournament is back. Wow it feels good. Did I mention it feels great?

Early slate of games:

Florida/Va Tech 12:15 tip (EST)

Arkansas/Colgate 12:45 tip (EST)

Illinois/Drexel 1:15 (EST)

Texas Tech/Utah St 1:45 (EST)

Picks? Thoughts?

Mar 19, 2021 12:43 PM #2

Early games, I didn't pick an upset although I think you could pick the higher seed in 3 of the 4.

Originally had Va Tech but they haven't played well post covid issues, they have only played 3 games since February 9th with the only win against helpless Wake Forest. Florida, watched several times and don't really understand how they got a #7 seed. Their players are just better then Va Tech, expect Tre Mann to have a big game. Florida is the pick.

Arkansas/Colgate should be high octane/high scoring. Colgate averages 86 ppg, only played 15 games on the season. Top 4 scorers are guards who shoot the 3 really well. They have size but its young. Line on this was only 8.5. I think Arkansas is a bit overrated but we'll see how this one goes. Arkansas is the pick in a tight game.

Illinois should win by 30, 22.5 favorites.

The first Big-12 game features Texas Tech. Utah St's Neemias Queta is one of the best bigs you've never heard of. Averages a double/double and is an absolute beast in the paint on both ends. Really a complete player, averages over 3 blocks and 2.5 assists a game. If he controls the game inside against Tech's limited frontcourt then this one could be really close. Ultimately I went with Tech, Beard's tourney success, strong defense and their guards are better then Utah St's. Utah St doesn't have Sam Merrill anymore and Tech has McFlung, who we know can shoot you in and out of games. Would be disappointed if Tech doesn't get a W for the Big-12. The Big-12 has a really good shot of going 4-0 on Day 1.

Mar 19, 2021 01:16 PM #3

@BeddieKU23 I was about to go look up the schedule and saw your post! Thx!

The commentators are looking forward to the TT-USt game. Nice analysis.

Mar 19, 2021 01:33 PM #4

@mayjay

Thx. Other Big-12 games

Hartford/Baylor 3:30 (EST)

Liberty/Oklahoma St 6:25 (EST)

Morehead St/West Virginia 9:50 (EST)

Mar 19, 2021 01:41 PM #5

Oklahoma St is only a 7 pt favorite today with Vegas which I find really odd. They were under seeded and have one of the best players in the country and now play a 23 win Liberty team who's won 12 straight. Liberty shoots the 3 extremely well (39% as a team). They lost to Purdue by 13, TCU by 4 & Missouri by 9 with P5 wins over South Carolina & Miss St, two middling SEC teams. I think Liberty is getting a little too much respect here as they play in an extremely weak conference with 4 of their 23 wins coming against non-division 1 schools. Lancaster Bible College, Carver College,
Columbia International, Bluefield College. Yeah I think Vegas missed on this

Mar 19, 2021 02:18 PM #6

I nailed all 4 of the play-in games yesterday, so I'm sure I'll get all the ones that actually matter wrong today. Excited to watch Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma St, and West Virginia all play today.

Mar 19, 2021 04:29 PM #7

Mar 19, 2021 05:07 PM #14

Colgate up 8 with 7:55 in the first half. They look legit

Mar 19, 2021 05:07 PM #15

@KirkIsMyHinrich

Florida really is that bad too I guess.

Mar 19, 2021 05:09 PM #16

I didn't really know how good Florida was this season, but they are 14-9 and coached by Mike White so. I went with Va Tech.

@KirkIsMyHinrich

I had picked Va Tech but they only played 3 games in 40 days and they hadn't looked good either. Florida is not playing up to their talent level. We'll see how the 2nd goes

Mar 19, 2021 05:14 PM #19

Mar 19, 2021 05:28 PM #25

Colgate falling apart, need halftime bad

Mar 19, 2021 05:29 PM #26

Arkansas was always going to make a run. Colgate just needs to keep playing hard.

Mar 19, 2021 05:29 PM #27

Colgate looks shook. Their leading scorer has done nothing for them as well

Mar 19, 2021 05:30 PM #28

Ref's will never actually know what a charge is

Mar 19, 2021 05:32 PM #29

17-0 run by Arkansas to end the half. Jeez

Who knows though, that collapse was insane.

Mar 19, 2021 05:38 PM #32

I picked Texas Tech to win but I don't feel good about it at all.

Mar 19, 2021 05:41 PM #33

Definitely depends on which version of McFlung Tech gets. The one that gets 20 or 5 determines the game

Mar 19, 2021 06:16 PM #62

Wild sequence in the Colgate game. Arkansas down 1 at the under 12..

Mar 19, 2021 06:19 PM #63

Va Tech hasn't made a field goal in 7 minutes. Bad time to go cold.

Mar 19, 2021 06:19 PM #64

Texas tech up 5 with just under 5 left in the first half. 19-14

Mar 19, 2021 06:20 PM #65

2 officials can't even get a charge/block call correct. Just so bad

Mar 19, 2021 06:22 PM #66

And a blown out of bounds call against Arkansas. This is definitely the C crew

Mar 19, 2021 06:23 PM #67

Queta with 5 blocks in the first half.

Mar 19, 2021 06:23 PM #68

Virginia Tech within 1 with 30 to go..

Mar 19, 2021 06:26 PM #70

Colgate just fouled a 3 pt shooter down 3. Feels like a big play

Mar 19, 2021 06:30 PM #81

Really shitty defense by Florida btw

Mar 19, 2021 06:39 PM #82

Arkansas is going to survive unless Colgate can start making shots. Hogs up 13 now at the under 4 timeout.

Mar 19, 2021 06:45 PM #83

Wow what a shot.

Mar 19, 2021 06:48 PM #84

Florida will survive and move on.

Mar 19, 2021 06:49 PM #86

Down 4, so you run time off the clock and settle for a long 2. Not ideal.

Florida shot 56.5% from the field for the game and deserved to win.

Mar 19, 2021 06:54 PM #87

Texas Tech is lucky Utah St can't make wide open 3's.

@KirkIsMyHinrich

Terrible right now

Mar 19, 2021 07:46 PM #94

Well playing 5 brackets right now and through 4 completed games I am 18-2 so can't complain so far , but these have been pretty easy picks

Mar 19, 2021 07:47 PM #95

In my ONE bracket, I'm 4-0. Although, at the last minute, I changed my ONE bracket to have Baylor beat Wisconsin and ultimately make it to the E8.

Mar 19, 2021 07:50 PM #96

Baylor starting to make some shots

Mar 19, 2021 07:50 PM #97

Including the first 4 play-in games, I'd be 4-4. Missed all of those first four.

Not that they are NOT fouls, but they only seem to be fouls on one end of the court.

Mar 19, 2021 08:54 PM #109

Ok, make up bail out call there. Conspiracy retracted.

Mar 19, 2021 08:55 PM #110

Those last two free throws are big time.

Mar 19, 2021 09:13 PM #138

Barnes has made 24 tournament appearances before this season, he's only made past the 1st weekend 7 times. And all of those appearances have been at major conference schools from the Big East (Providence), ACC (Clemson), Big 12 (Texas), and now SEC (Tennessee) so he doesn't have the excuse of being at a mid major when it'd be more acceptable to not get past the weekend.

Even if we lose to Eastern Washington, it won't even be the worst loss of the tournament. This is great.

@BeddieKU23 seems like this happens every year. Makes me think the official deliberately try to keep games close so there is more opportunity for dramatic endings.

Mar 20, 2021 12:42 AM #160

Okie State wins. So much for my upset pick. Flames gave 'em a run though.

@BeddieKU23 god. The charge might as well be an artistic act. It is completely subjective and every crew has their own interpretation.

Not sad to see Falwell U lose. Oklahoma St looked pretty bad though.

Say goodnight Roy.

Mar 20, 2021 01:01 AM #169

Wisconsin with 13 made 3-pointers. Oof

Mar 20, 2021 01:06 AM #170

Grimes having himself a nice little game in UH's destruction of Cleveland St. 14-4-4 with about 5 minutes left including 4-9 from deep.

Mar 20, 2021 01:09 AM #171

Glad to see Wisconsin have a hot night, but other than them and Illinois, the rest of the b1g has kinda stunk. Purdue on the ropes and Rutgers later. ?

Mar 20, 2021 01:10 AM #172

Roy had won 29 straight round of 64 games before tonight. That's one of the most incredible streaks in NCAA Tournament history to me.

Mar 20, 2021 01:11 AM #173

@Texas-Hawk-10 That's literally why I picked UNC to win lol

Mar 20, 2021 01:11 AM #174

Guess who will be in the barn in Indy tomorrow? Someone who way overpaid but just the got the stimulus check.

Mar 20, 2021 01:11 AM #175

My Heels apparently never left Chapel Hill. I suspect all but Brooks and Sharpe will be back. UNC is gonna be really good next year.

The b1g conference may win the tournament in rebounding

Mar 20, 2021 01:18 AM #179

North Texas might be about to take out Purdue. Up 4 with 1:22 left.

Mar 20, 2021 01:18 AM #180

The B10 conference is looking overrated to start the tournament. Purdue might lose a home game to a 13-seed.

Mar 20, 2021 01:19 AM #181

FT's have killed Purdue down the stretch. Missed some And 1's and front end of 1 and 1's late.

Mar 20, 2021 01:44 AM #199

These don't really even seem like bad matchups for the B1G. Ohio State just forgot what worked (driving and pounding inside second half) and Washington went into hero ball mode at the end against ORU for no reason.

Mar 20, 2021 01:44 AM #200

State of Texas gonna go 4-0 today.

Good chance for a Baylor-Nova matchup in the Sweet 16.

The one he missed at KU was the very first year (because of NCAA sanctions). He went every other year he was here. That's why we have the longest streak of NCAA appearances (and still counting).

Duke's streak started in 96 over and has to start over. Michigan State's streak started 1997ish. They are now #2 and Gonzaga is #3 (started around 99).

Mar 20, 2021 03:47 PM #220

Oklahoma 8/Missouri 9 is an interesting matchup that I hope the Big 12 wins. 6:25 TNT. I root for all the Big 12 teams, even though I develop great animosity toward them during the season. I could punch smug Lon Kruger in the face; especially after fouling Dok anywhere he was on the floor to win one stinkin' game. But, I'll be rooting for them tonight.

Mar 20, 2021 09:39 PM #228

well here is a little nugget. If we happen to have to match up with USC - one good thing is they are a very poor free throw shooting team, think I head them say their like 340th out of 368 - - - -3-9 today

Mar 20, 2021 09:50 PM #229

I listened to the Drake-USC first half on my phone while I went for a run. Danny Manning was one of the Westwood One radio announcers (on SiriusXM). He was not that great.

USC not scaring me at the moment. I hope to god they play this zone against us. Garrett will feast in all that space in the middle of that 2-3

USC is extremely tall and we have struggled against teams with length this season (Kentucky, Texas). We're going to have to shoot well from 3.

Mar 20, 2021 10:31 PM #233

Really proud of Big Dave
What a wonderful performance after missing one week of practice and recovering from COVID-19

Mar 20, 2021 11:00 PM #234

USC is a terrible match up for Kansas. We don't have a quality answer for Evan Mobley. Dave isn't athletic enough to stay with him as evidenced by the Duck Dynasty guy kicking Dave's ass today. Mitch just isn't good enough to hang with Mobley and Jalen Wilson is probably going to have even worse fatigue issues than Dave did today if he's even able to go on Monday.

KU can't double Mobley full time because USC has three other starters shooting right around 40% from 3 and considering how bad KU's defense was today combined with Self's track record in round of 32 and Elite 8 games, KU' s going to have to pray they shoot like they did again today to have a chance.

Mar 20, 2021 11:01 PM #235

First Covid forfeit of the NCAA Tournament goes to VCU as they have to forfeit their game against Oregon so the Ducks are moving on.

Sorry USC really didn't impress overly that much. Sure Mobley is good - -USC is ok good, but we have played better teams this year sorry just not overwhelmed by them -- horrible horrible free throw shooting tem like was mentioned like 340th out of 368 teams. - -yep you Got Mobley, 2 Mobleys still again we played presumed # 1 pick for NBA this year and did ok ya different type of player but Cunningham just as talented as Mobley.

Just like other teams you might play with studs - they may get their points go crazy , the key is not to let the others on the team go off for career days. - - Look at Toppin last year - - great player real stud - -result - -we won. This year there has been Cade we split - bottom line can we get beat ? - - Sure - -Will we get beat umm maybe 50/50 - -Can we beat them ? -- sure we can that's why they play the game. - Just not blown away by them, whatever happens happens. - I've said we make it to the sweet 16 with this group - -anything else be gravy. -- Hel lDrake played well with them till like middle of 2n d half.

I do think Dave might have some trouble getting his shot off - -USC great length , still over all --- I'll take our chances

You're basing your opinion on USC off of one game. They are a good team whose strengths as a team play into KU's weaknesses. KU has been absolute shit on defense away from AFH all year. Dave already can't guard athletic big men and now he's going to have to guard arguably the 2nd best big man in the country while recovering from Covid where it was clear today his stamina is really low. That's a perfect set up for Mobley to go even more nuclear than Groves did today. And USC is not just Evan Mobley. 3 of their other rotation players shoot right around 40% from 3 as well including their PG Tahj Daddy. USC is also one of the best defenses in the country as they rank 13th in FG% defense giving up less than 40% on the year.

USC averages 75 ppg and has only allowed that many points 5 times all year. They are a terrible match up for Kansas because their strengths are KU's weaknesses on both ends of the floor.

Mar 20, 2021 11:30 PM #241

@Texas-Hawk-10 Again I am not impressed period - - Good - - not great. - you are wrong period about basing on one game thats laughable, I based off their entire Season - if they that good they couldn't even win their own conference but it's ok you go ahead and drool over USC I'll take my chances sure the not scared by any means you run scared -- you play scared

Mar 20, 2021 11:32 PM #242

Well, heck, guess I don't even need to watch.

Mar 20, 2021 11:36 PM #243

Mobley is a 31% 3-point shooter and has only made 11 all season. If I'm Dave I give Mobley a cushion and and let him shoot the 3. If we lose because Mobley makes a bunch of 3-pointers I'll live with it.

We're definitely good enough to beat USC, just need to play well.

Mar 20, 2021 11:39 PM #244

Evan Mobley that is. The other Mobley shoots 39% from 3. Need to guard older bro.

Mar 20, 2021 11:47 PM #245

How on earth did USC lose 7 games if they are so invincible? And losing to unranked teams...yet we are supposed to be dismayed and fearful? Not buying it--we have heard this refrain before!

Mar 21, 2021 12:10 AM #246

I don't think anyone is fearful of USC, just nervous about having to play against the P12 player of the year and a likely Top 3 NBA draft pick. Of course KU can win...

Cunningham and Mobley don't play the same position. Cunningham plays a position where KU is probably the strongest at defensively. Evan Mobley plays a position where KU is its weakest at.

I have never said KU can't win despite what you may believe. All I've said all along is that USC is a terrible match up for Kansas because their strengths are KU's weaknesses. Their offensive big man play exploits KU's lack of post defense. Their perimeter shooting exploits KU's defensive philosophy of switching everything on the perimeter. Their FG% defense is 13th in the nation which exploits KU being a poor shooting team this season.

That ignores how much KU has struggled away from AFH against good teams this year and Self's historical struggles in having KU prepared well enough the round of 32 and Elite 8.

All of that is when KU is at full strength. Insert a less than 100% McCormack and Wilson into the equation, and it's a perfect scenario for KU to come out and struggle on Monday.

Texas just lost to a 14-seed that shot 29.9% from the field. lol

Mar 21, 2021 04:35 AM #289

8:40! Good for me and good more importantly for Jalen

Mar 21, 2021 04:36 AM #290

Kansas game Monday with USC will be at 8:40pm

Mar 21, 2021 04:36 AM #291

Prime Time all across the USA

Mar 21, 2021 04:58 AM #296

Perfect. It’ll give Jalen time to get there and settle in.

Mar 21, 2021 04:59 AM #297

Check out I found wissox with his flag! On his post!

Mar 21, 2021 11:56 AM #298

Karma for Shaka! Ha

Mar 21, 2021 11:57 AM #299

Imagine having that roster with 3 possible draft picks and 3 others that will play professionally and lose in the first round. @BShark

7th, 8th best coach in the league?

Mar 21, 2021 12:45 PM #301

@BShark

About right

Mar 21, 2021 01:24 PM #302

After what happened last night, does Shaka even keep his job at Texas? He's yet to win a tournament game at Texas losing on a half court shot to Northern Iowa in 2016, blowing a big lead in 2018, and then losing to ACU last night.

Texas has their new arena coming in 2022 so Texas probably has a decision to make about Shaka's future with the program.

Mar 21, 2021 03:17 PM #303

@Texas-Hawk-10 Ironic since he mostly got the job on the heels of his tournament success. That was an elite 8/final four caliber team.

Also funny that after Gonzaga’s blow out yesterday the tv kept talking about their streak of first round wins. 12 in a row I think. Second only too.... Kansas of course. For all the moaning a lot of us did mid game yesterday about how this can’t be happening again, why does this always happen to us, yada yada yada, we’ve been better than most come March. Yes it helps to be favored in EVERY first round game but that’s not an accident. Self being labeled a great “regular season coach” is why we are always in such a good position to win some games this time of year.

I do think Texas will drop Shaka. The sports radio around here is not going to let this one go for a while and I don’t think the fans will either.

Illinois having trouble with Jokic lite right now. Go Ramblers

I know it won't last but dang that's a big boy down low for Loyola - he spanking them down low right now. - -Thing is the longer Illinois let's them hang around the crazier it is gonna get now down 10. - - -they gonna have to come out and jump all over them in the 2nd half if they don't pick it up lol

Mar 21, 2021 05:47 PM #308

Bad things happen to teams that slap the floor

Mar 21, 2021 05:49 PM #309

Illinois in BIG TIME trouble - gonna have to step it up down by 11 with 4:25 to go. - - Rafferty almost crying pleading with Illinois to win this game mercy pathetic - -got step it up - -and just about falling out of his chair every time they score lol

Mar 21, 2021 05:57 PM #310

Look out - -Illinois down 9 with like 3:09 to go. - Boy this will screw with people I know no one picking Loyola over Illinois in the 2nd round lol - - bust them brackets

Mar 21, 2021 06:03 PM #311

For Shaka to get canned, someone’s going to have to break the news to UT’s money people they have a basketball team.

Also Sister Jean may, in fact, be the lord

Mar 21, 2021 06:08 PM #312

As a lifetime BIG fan I'm mildly embarrassed right now. Toughest league in the land we kept saying. But they're toast. Just an awful performance by Illinois.

Mar 21, 2021 06:10 PM #313

@FarmerJayhawk UT donors just got done ponying up about $350 million for a new basketball arena. They're aware basketball exists and the new arena is the main reason why Shaka's seat should be hotter than it was last year.

Mar 21, 2021 06:11 PM #314

As a Chicagoan, I am at least glad they're losing to a Chicago team. Got to love Loyola which was horribly under seeded. I could say Illinois deserved to play an easier 8 seed, but they played like crap and choked this away. Go sister Jean! And of course, Rock Chalk monday night!

Mar 21, 2021 06:11 PM #315

Illinois is - - -DONE - - ya hear me - - DONE/COOKED/FINISHED mercy - -did they say BIG What ?

It's smokin

Mar 21, 2021 06:14 PM #317

And Sister Jean & the Ramblers upset the Illini. Lord have mercy !

(Equal time for the Baptists...Baylor up next. And Oral Roberts later.)

Mar 21, 2021 06:16 PM #318

Any top level team needing a coach, looking at you Indiana should be burning up Porter Moser's inbox right now.

Mar 21, 2021 06:17 PM #319

Now I'm just saying not making Big out of it BUT Illinois if Okie State can take car of business today - -this at least improves Okie States chances of going deeper

Mar 21, 2021 06:18 PM #320

That day I met Porter Moser two years ago and told him I still had college eligibility. I could've been out there today.

Mar 21, 2021 06:21 PM #321

@jayballer67 Don't know who to root for in that one. Oregon State named their court after longtime coach Ralph Miller, who was from Chanute and played for Phog Allen himself.

Mar 21, 2021 06:23 PM #322

@wissox looked pretty athletic carrying that flag yesterday!

Mar 21, 2021 06:25 PM #323

@Texas-Hawk-10 I’m aware. ‘Twas a joke my dude

Mar 21, 2021 06:27 PM #324

Anybody got Wisconsin?

Mar 21, 2021 06:35 PM #325

@Crimsonorblue22 It was a blast. I picked the Badgers in one of my brackets to beat Baylor but I really don't think it's happening.

Mar 21, 2021 06:43 PM #326

FLOP WARNING FLOP WARNING FLOP WARNING

Mar 21, 2021 06:50 PM #327

So down goes Illinois and that popping sound you heard is my bracket getting thoroughly busted.

Mar 21, 2021 07:00 PM #328

Baylor is falling their way to victory right now. Flopping all over the court.

Mar 21, 2021 07:22 PM #329

Another BIG team getting whipped Baylor taking Wisconsin to the shed - hoping it continues helps show who the real toughest league is, Baylor quick today for sure

Not like Ohio State didn’t already do me in with their loss but this one hurt B1G time. My brackets are toast.

What gets me are the people who still have a perfect bracket. How in the heck does anyone have the foresight to pick Oral Roberts? I’ve never figured it out.

Nobody has a perfect bracket left after Ohio won last night.

Mar 21, 2021 07:57 PM #333

Glad I haven't done brackets for a while. It's stressful enough rooting for KU.

Mar 21, 2021 10:30 PM #334

Illinois bye-bye. Another Big10 1 seed Michigan will soon be the same. Kansas will beat USC. I'm hoping for the Zags to stumble, opening up our bracket. People you can all say that I'm on hallucinogenics, but with all of the upsets and a couple more breaks it is not out of the realm of possibility that Kansas can win the National Championship.

Mar 21, 2021 11:06 PM #335

Well looks like West Virginia is Done - -thought they would do better this year

Mar 21, 2021 11:13 PM #336

Huggy bear is not a good tourney coach. Consistent at losing early

Mar 21, 2021 11:19 PM #337

Another double-digit seed wins. Syracuse over WVU.

Oral Roberts - Florida next.

By the way, the last time ORU made it into the NCAA second round was 1974, when there were only 25 teams in the tournament field.

Ah, I remember it well...KU managed to outlast them in OT in front of a pro-ORU crowd in Tulsa to win the Midwest Regional and go to the national semifinals (before they called it the Final Four). The Eagles' coach, Ken Trickey, had already announced that he was resigning. The night before the game, he got arrested on a suspected DUI (but was actually given a "reckless driving" charge).

As for the Jayhawks, they lost to Marquette in the semis and to Bill Walton & UCLA in the now-defunct third-place game. NC State won the title that year, led by David Thompson.

Mar 21, 2021 11:21 PM #338

Syracuse was pretty fortunate to win that game. West Virginia played about as badly as they could, shot 15% worse from the field, and still almost won at the end.

Mar 21, 2021 11:38 PM #339

Texas tech getting screwed by the refs

Mar 21, 2021 11:40 PM #340

Wow these refs cannot get anything right

Mar 22, 2021 12:09 AM #341

Pat Adams is a SEC referee who once ejected a commentator. Not surprised Tech is getting screwed.

Mar 22, 2021 12:17 AM #342

Mcflung with a missed 1 and 1

Mar 22, 2021 12:18 AM #343

Missed 1 and 1 and missed lay-up. Tech choked

Mar 22, 2021 12:19 AM #344

Wild ending and tech goes down on missed plays

Mar 22, 2021 12:20 AM #345

Tech just flat ass plain and simple BLEW that game. - - Down 1 , your best free throw shooter misses free point - -- you miss 2 dead layups in the final Seconds - you deserve to lose - Holy Bat Shit Robin

Mar 22, 2021 12:20 AM #346

Missed 1 and 1 and missed lay-ups. Game was there for TTU to steal, and they didn't execute in the last minute...

Mar 22, 2021 12:32 AM #349

Thanks Texas, WVU and Texas Tech. I'm looking forward to the end of the tournament when I can go back to NOT rooting for other Big12 teams.

I expect Okie Light will disappoint me later tonight.

Both Arkansas and Houston demonstrating how to not lose. Neither actually won. Their opponents just couldn’t execute basic plays.

Mar 22, 2021 01:20 AM #356

Yep, Rutgers blew it.

Mar 22, 2021 01:23 AM #357

Mar 22, 2021 01:35 AM #359

Based on every other game today, I'm pretty sure I know what's going to happen in this ORU UF game.

Mar 22, 2021 01:37 AM #360

To be specific, one of the two teams will have a shot to win and blow it

Mar 22, 2021 01:41 AM #361

EXPECT A(NOTHER) MIRACLE

Absolutely nutso tournament

Mar 22, 2021 01:43 AM #362

Nova wins big over the Mean Green.

Weird seeing Jay Wright in a sweater. What happened to the D'Annunzio suits?

Jeez, if this keeps up he'll start to look like Belichick,

Mar 22, 2021 03:08 AM #364

Okie St. getting spanked at halftime by Oregon St. 44-30.

Mar 22, 2021 03:17 AM #365

OSU might still win this one

Mar 22, 2021 03:56 AM #366

Pathetic showing from the B12 today other than Baylor.

Mar 22, 2021 03:57 AM #367

I have just today seen more abysmally missed shots from < 3 feet than I have seen in entire tournaments.

Mar 22, 2021 04:01 AM #368

Refs have called two bogus fouls, one on each team in the last minute.

Mar 22, 2021 04:02 AM #369

Boy that escalated quickly

Mar 22, 2021 04:03 AM #370

60 free-throws have been shot in this game already. So ya, pretty much refball. Surprised no one has fouled out yet.

Mar 22, 2021 04:11 AM #371

Speaking of Oklahoma State, did anyone catch the wrestler AJ Ferrari last night? 197 pounder. Total stud wrestler, but he's a freshman and thinks he's a pro wrestler because he's always smack talking, posing, flexing his enormous biceps, etc. There's an all time great heavyweight right now from Minnesota who is actually named Gable Dan Stevenson. This freshman just said "Next year I'm moving up to heavyweight so I can beat you".

Mar 22, 2021 04:12 AM #372

Cade is not playing to his strengths. He’s a jumbo PG, not a guy you want playing hero ball. Neutralizes his biggest strength.

Mar 22, 2021 04:15 AM #373

This is just awful basketball by the way. Cade Cunningham is the top pick in the draft but can't score against Oregon St.? LOL, some dude just shot an airball. His shooting form looked worse than my shot.

Mar 22, 2021 04:16 AM #374

28% shooting for Oklahoma St. Not going to beat anyone doing that. Maybe Texas.

Mar 22, 2021 04:19 AM #375

And the Big 12 goes 0-for-3 on the day. Meanwhile, the much-maligned Pac-12 is 6 and 0.

Hope we can do something about that tomorrow against USC.

Mar 22, 2021 04:20 AM #376

@wissox yep, knock on Cade has always been he’s a streaky shooter. Crazy effort from Oregon State too. Hats off to the beavers of Tinkle.

I can’t help myself

Mar 22, 2021 04:20 AM #377

Wayne Tinkle wins in Hinkle.

Mar 22, 2021 04:59 AM #378

Mar 22, 2021 11:17 AM #379

@KirkIsMyHinrich oklahoma?

Mar 22, 2021 03:47 PM #380

@approxinfinity Just meant from yesterday's games. Oklahoma had a good effort against Missouri for sure.

Mar 22, 2021 04:09 PM #381

Early impression of the Oregon/Iowa game. Race to 100

Mar 22, 2021 04:13 PM #382

Iowa in 10 words or less. 4 jump shooters around 1 space eating big

Mar 22, 2021 04:18 PM #383

Oregon has a 6'6 guy playing the 5. Insane to think that works

Mar 22, 2021 04:19 PM #384

If you're in the P12 conference, apparently everything works.

Mar 22, 2021 04:21 PM #385

Other thoughts, Oregon likes to Dunk. It helps when Iowa can't defend anything. Their 5 is a matchup problem due to his inside/out ability but Dave would have 4/5 inches on him. He's basically Marcus Garrett height with 30 pounds.

Mar 22, 2021 04:23 PM #386

Garza already has 12 points, he's on pace for about 50. We'll see if he can keep that up or if the speed of the game is going to wear him out.

Mar 22, 2021 04:24 PM #387

He's the entire offense other then some guys making open 3's. Been Iowa all year

Mar 22, 2021 04:30 PM #388

Hot Take: Chris Duarte will be drafted before Luke Garza

Mar 22, 2021 04:32 PM #389

Exciting game. 70 points scored in 13 minutes. Both of these teams are bad matchups for KU

Mar 22, 2021 04:39 PM #390

@BeddieKU23 Iowa in 10 words or less. No Sweet 16's this century. Whiny Brat coach.

Mar 22, 2021 04:43 PM #391

Garza has 20. there's 4 minutes remaining in the first half

Mar 22, 2021 04:44 PM #392

@wissox

I was hoping to bait you into commenting:alien:

Mar 22, 2021 04:45 PM #393

This is an offensive clinic. 44-44 with 2 to go before half

Mar 22, 2021 04:50 PM #394

@BeddieKU23 does either team even have a defensive game plan?

Mar 22, 2021 04:52 PM #395

The best defense is a good offense sort of game plan for both teams.

Mar 22, 2021 04:55 PM #396

Iowa is just hoping they go cold from outside. Their zone is awful

Mar 22, 2021 04:56 PM #397

@Kcmatt7

None, Self would have already quit if we ever played defense like both of these teams

Mar 22, 2021 04:57 PM #398

Some Iowa players were saying seriously that they were the best defensive team in the country before the tournament started. How's that going right now?

Mar 22, 2021 05:00 PM #399

Talk about blowing smoke up their own

Mar 22, 2021 05:02 PM #400

@Kcmatt7

Their man was even worse tbh

Mar 22, 2021 05:02 PM #401

Can't remember the last time I saw a half with 102 pts total

Mar 22, 2021 05:20 PM #402

Hot Take: Iowa couldn't guard me and 4 other bucketeers

Mar 22, 2021 05:22 PM #403

There is no one on the floor that Garza can guard. That is really killing them. Also, when you make everything you look really good. This is the first time I have watched Oregon at all and they look damn good.

Mar 22, 2021 05:29 PM #404

A charge was taken. Defense can now go away

Mar 22, 2021 05:35 PM #405

Only 24 points scored in the 2nd half so far in 6 minutes. Or about KU's average for the first half in 20

Mar 22, 2021 05:38 PM #406

Thinking ahead if KU were to play Oregon. Marcus Garrett guards Omoruyi. Would be an absolute waste of time to put Dave on him. He's George Niang with athleticism

Mar 22, 2021 05:39 PM #407

Hot Take: Iowa as a #2 seed was the worst seeding in the entire tournament

Mar 22, 2021 05:43 PM #408

Agreed. I picked them to lose to GCU. And I had Oregon going to the S16.

Mar 22, 2021 05:54 PM #409

BIG Embarrassment, but I don't mind Iowa losing. The worry is that the PAC12 is feeling all high and mighty and USC is very confident now.

Mar 22, 2021 05:58 PM #410

So now we have the chance to take down two Pac-12 schools in a row. Not mention avenging the 2017 tourney loss to the Ducks.

First things first though...gotta get past the Trojans.

Mar 22, 2021 06:08 PM #411

Garza was always going to get his points. The key was to stop everyone else.

Oregon D held three of their starters scoreless.

Mar 22, 2021 06:12 PM #412

Well I'll say this Oregon couldn't possibly score like this again.

Mar 22, 2021 06:20 PM #413

@nwhawkfan In the BIG tournament Wisconsin let Luka score almost at will and hung in there. Iowa only pulled away when some of the others started scoring.

Mar 22, 2021 06:30 PM #414

well guessed I missed it. - -So what I'm seeing or at least sounding like is -- -Illinois AND Iowa both lost yesterday?

Mar 22, 2021 06:38 PM #415

One of my favorite KU games was in the Elite 8 in 2002 we played Oregon and just steam rolled them. Aaron Miles was flying all over. Oregon had Luke Recker (?) who was their big star, but we had some quality and depth on that team. Just a great game.

Mar 22, 2021 06:43 PM #416

Ya I know very early but Reaves just going off for Oklahoma

Mar 22, 2021 07:01 PM #417

OU delivering the best defense Gonzaga has seen all season.

Mar 22, 2021 07:07 PM #418

If OU wants ANY CHANCE - -ANY CHANCE at all they can't afford going in at half any further down then like 7 at most I would think

Mar 22, 2021 07:24 PM #419

@bskeet And....water finds its level.

Mar 22, 2021 07:25 PM #420

OU was took to the woodshed just as everyone else that has trying to beat them.

Mar 22, 2021 07:41 PM #421

@BeddieKU23 ya after he hit his 1st try Manik chunking up 40 ft shots REALLY HELPS got guys catching right at the hole and kicks it up - - WTF ? - -WIDE OPEN you can't miss opportunities like that and expect to have any chance. - then Kruger taking Manik AND Reaves out at the same time - come on man you gotta roll the dice there is no tomorrow , you just have to rely on the guys not to commit silly fouls these guys worthless on the bench and where the hell you gonna score from with them out

Mar 22, 2021 07:46 PM #422

Harkless looks shook

Mar 22, 2021 07:51 PM #423

I monitor ticket prices and I'm shocked Michigan tickets are really low of all the remaining games yet they're the closest to Indy. I don't know if their fans are not confident because of the injury to Livers or what, but it's surprising.

Mar 22, 2021 07:52 PM #424

If manek was playing KU he would make shots

Mar 22, 2021 07:53 PM #425

If Reaves was playing KU He would fake and cry for foul calls but instead takes step back bricks

Mar 22, 2021 07:54 PM #426

When our game is beginning, we'll be in the sweet 17

Mar 22, 2021 07:58 PM #427

OU goose cooked. Big 12 down to the two best

Mar 22, 2021 08:26 PM #428

Will give OU some credit - thought they might cash it in, but they've been putting up a decent fight. Scoring - just can't stop the Zags. Doesn't help when Zags get four shots on one possession and Timmie doesn't get call for an obvious travel down low (moved his pivot twice). And, OU getting called for some questionable fouls; but not GU.

Ou made is so the announcers couldn't go all lance blanks and talk about their book collections

Mar 22, 2021 08:29 PM #430

Reaves has some greyson Allen in him. Not the good part either

Mar 22, 2021 08:33 PM #431

Why don’t teams foul and try to extend the game anymore?

Mar 22, 2021 08:34 PM #432

Like they should have fouled a minute and a half ago.

Mar 22, 2021 08:41 PM #433

Was it a push umm ya - -BUT a hard push ? - -give me a fricken break. - -If your gonna give that to these little golden spoon babies that then call the game and name a score now - - PLEASE we got hit a lot harder then that in practice -come on get real

Mar 22, 2021 09:21 PM #434

@Kcmatt7 said in Today's Games Thread:

OU didn't have fouls to give to be able to do that. At that point, they had too many guys already with 4 fouls like Harkless and Reaves so players would've been fouling out who OU needed to keep on the floor.

Mar 22, 2021 09:43 PM #435

Watching the UCLA game, even more unfathomable that UT lost to Abilene-Christian. Yes, they play hard, but they simply can't score...

I don't know who to root against harder in this Michigan LSU matchup, so I'm cheering on Creighton

2 words....trey burke. As much as I hate the sec....Michigan is still in my 20 year hatred for a tournament battle.

I'm pretty childish when it comes to teams beating ku in the tourney.

Mar 23, 2021 12:45 AM #442

Mercy that was the most obvious blown call Michigan totally stepped out of bounds on the drive so what do the ref's do - - they call a foul on LSU LMAO YA THAT WORKS

Mar 23, 2021 12:45 AM #443

Chaundee Brown a recruit Self lost to Danny Manning having a big game for Michigan. Always wanted him in crimson and blue

Mar 23, 2021 12:47 AM #444

@BeddieKU23 I was just going to say...

Just goes to show how impactful transfers can be. Malik also proof of that.

Bill needs to really hit the transfer market hard

Mar 23, 2021 12:51 AM #445

@Kcmatt7

Remember watching him in peach jam 4 yrs ago and thinking his Sr year would be a good one. Been a solid team player for Michigan and glad he found a good spot to end his career.

Absolutely the transfer market should be used. Dedric, Malik, Moss have been + signees out the market. Some others not so much. Definitely have to find guys that fit specific roles here

Mar 23, 2021 12:52 AM #446

@DCHawker

Still a 8 pt deficit but yeah that was badd

Mar 23, 2021 01:05 AM #452

Flipped it to the Michigan game for one minute and saw the blown out of bounds call. Guess it went downhill from there for LSU. Shame.

Mar 23, 2021 01:05 AM #453

@DCHawker And then dribbles into the corner and has to call a timeout.

Mar 23, 2021 01:07 AM #454

During our Baton Rouge years I'd go to LSU games. Wait for the TV timeout and pick out a court side seat that wasn't taken and go sit in it. No one ever questioned me. Saw Ben Simmons up close and personal a lot of times. LSU fans could care less about basketball.

Mar 23, 2021 01:11 AM #455

The UM PG is trying hard to throw the game...

Mar 23, 2021 01:12 AM #456

Oregon St is terrible how did they make it this far

Mar 27, 2021 08:36 PM #460

@BeddieKU23 Got hot at the right time.

Mar 27, 2021 08:37 PM #461

Only took 37:17 for a team to reach 50 points.

Mar 27, 2021 08:40 PM #462

The Midwest is the region KU was hoping to be in. A lot of slower paced, good defense, average offensive teams in the region would've given KU a much better chance that what KU did have to deal with.

Mar 27, 2021 08:42 PM #463

Pac 12 will get at least 2 teams into the Elite 8.

Mar 27, 2021 10:20 PM #464

Mar 27, 2021 11:08 PM #465

Jay Wright pays officials.

Mar 27, 2021 11:11 PM #466

Baylor in the 2nd half is the one team that can beat Gonzaga this year.

Mar 28, 2021 12:47 AM #467

Arkansas is like "we are going to the Elite 8" and ORU is like "ORU"?

Mar 28, 2021 12:55 AM #468

@approxinfinity ORU had a 10 point halftime lead the first time they played back in December and end up losing by 9. ORU knows they can play with Arkansas because they've already done it this season.

Mar 28, 2021 01:26 AM #469

Arkansas holds off ORU by 2. ORU had a great look from 3 for the win, but it rimmed out.

Mar 28, 2021 01:35 AM #470

@Texas-Hawk-10 too bad they went cold from 3. Coulda won comfortably if they didnt go ice cold from behind the arc.

Mar 28, 2021 02:23 AM #471

@approxinfinity Bigger reason was rebounding. Arkansas grabbed 18 offensive rebounds. This was basically a repeat of their first game, just a closer final margin.

Mar 28, 2021 03:54 AM #472

Houston looking good to make their first Elite 8 since the Phi Slamma Jamma days in 1984.

Mar 28, 2021 04:06 AM #473

Houston by 16 over Syracuse.

Monday night is going to be Houston vs. Oregon St. and Baylor vs. Arkansas.

Mar 29, 2021 01:27 AM #474

UCLA should have fouled. What are you doing, Bruins?

Mar 29, 2021 01:34 AM #475

The announcer just before Alabama's play started. "This is the 29th anniversary of the Christian Laettner shot". I don't cuss but I felt like it. I mean his shot will go down in history, because of freaking CBS as the greatest shot in history. It wasn't better, (and this is just my memory) than Keith Smarts NCAA winning shot in 1987, or Scottie Thurmans shot in 1994, or of course Mario's shot in 2008 or the Villanova shot in 2016. Not even close. If Laettner misses his shot Kentucky goes to the FF instead of Duke. These freaking media types can't help but continuing to kiss Dukes a$$ even as it's been years since they were relevant.

Mar 29, 2021 02:18 AM #476

@wissox You seem to ignore that the other shots were in the course of plays that started with more time left than Hill's full-court pass to CL. I hate Leitner, but it was a turnaround shot from a location he seldom would shoot from (and with no time to set up), so I consider it much harder than any of the shots that started with the player facing the basket.

In addition, it is really the whole play that was amazing, which to me is more like how Sherron's ball-handling and pass while falling helped make Mario's shot more memorable than Smart's.

All the shots were clutch, but I (despite holding my nose) have to award degree of difficulty points to the Dookies.

Mar 29, 2021 02:52 AM #477

@mayjay No, I can't agree. I wouldn't even hold my nose and agree. I wouldn't even accept a 10,000$ agree with you fee and agree (ok, I might rethink that one). To me it was the fact that it was a shot to get to the Final Four. That's all. Sure, there's a different National Champion if Duke misses that shot, but I tend to believe it's only a famous shot because of the sports media obsession with Duke.

Mar 29, 2021 11:29 AM #478

😎

Mar 29, 2021 01:33 PM #479

As much as the Laetner shot gotten hyped and replayed, I guess I've actually started to think it was the championship game.

Then there's the best Duke miss in tournament history::beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes: :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Anyway, nothing will ever beat NCState's win over Phi Slamma Jamma

Mar 29, 2021 04:01 PM #480

@DanR Good catch, forgot about the NCState buzzer beater! Yes, definitely more epic than Christians shot.

Mar 30, 2021 12:45 AM #481

Looks like a former Jayhawk is going to the Final Four at least.

Mar 30, 2021 12:54 AM #482

@wissox Not so fast on that one although UH is who I'm pulling for at this point.

Mar 30, 2021 01:09 AM #483

UH's offensive rebounding is the only reason why Houston isn't down double digits right now.

Mar 30, 2021 01:19 AM #484

Houston going to their first Final Four since 1984.

Mar 30, 2021 01:28 AM #485

Well, I wanted a 12 seed to make it to FF for the first time ever. But congrats to Houston. They played well, and its amazing to see Grimes playing with such confidence.

Mar 30, 2021 01:29 AM #486

With Houston’s draw Kansas would have made the final four. There I said it. 1 seed difference. Upsets clearing the path.

Mar 30, 2021 01:32 AM #487

Guaranteed to have an old SWC match up in the Final Four which is crazy because the SWC was never known as a basketball conference.

The state of Texas also looking for only its second ever national title in college basketball.

Mar 30, 2021 01:53 AM #488

I'm not sure we beat that Syracuse team. We couldn't have shot our way out of it.

Mar 30, 2021 02:44 AM #489

@Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah it seemed like OSU got some motivation by my comment!

Mar 30, 2021 02:48 AM #490

@benshawks08 Have you ever looked at our path in 1988? Upsets galore! Easier path, at least until the EE, FF, NC!

Mar 30, 2021 03:05 AM #491

Geographically Michigan is the furthest east team still alive. ESPN must be going crazy. Great year for the west. Since UCLA's run ended in 1975 there have been only 5 west of the Mississippi champs, KU twice, UNLV, Arizona and Arkansas and UCLA. KU is the only team since Arizona in 1997 to win from the west. TTech almost added their name to the list. From the central time zone, KU, OK AM, Wisconsin, Loyola and KU are the only winners EVER. I like geography and worthless related trivia.

Mar 30, 2021 12:29 PM #492

Big 12 now has had 4 different teams represent the league in the last 5 tourneys' final fours. Interestingly it's those 5 years now that has twice seen us not win the league. @drgnslayr pointed out that a tough league should help KU.

Mar 30, 2021 11:23 PM #493

Dam Referee just Collasped during the Gonzaga game just flat went down. Hope he is ok

Mar 30, 2021 11:36 PM #494

I want Gonzaga to win. Both teams beat us, but SC trounced us in the tourney. Hope that they get their asses handed to them.

Mar 30, 2021 11:43 PM #495

southern Cal looking like grade School kids can't hang onto the ball with a dam - -you can't win if you can't even control the ball - - Sloppy - -Sloppy defense

Mar 31, 2021 12:15 AM #496

So much for the idea that SC's bigs were going to hold Gonzaga at bay underneath.

Bulldogs outrebounding the Trojans 21-14 at the half. Twice as many points in the paint...32-16.

Mar 31, 2021 12:51 AM #497

They just pass and pass and pass, until someone makes a shot. And they don't slouch on D either.

Mar 31, 2021 01:17 AM #498

One step away from that long-delayed Gonzaga-Baylor matchup. Would love to see it.

Just two points shy of the over-under line of 153.

Mar 31, 2021 01:20 AM #499

Passing and passing by USC didn't cut it. I thought Baylor looked like "bad ball Bill Self" on steroids last night in the second half. Guards never passed the ball to a big, ever, just drove to the basket for the last 15 minutes for layups or fouls. That might actually be the ticket to beating Gonzaga, plus playing tight perimeter D with Thamba in the middle to mess stuff up and Vital to hack at random. Hate to put any hope on a Scott Drew coached team though, so we'll see.

Mar 31, 2021 01:31 AM #500

With ten minutes left on Thanksgiving Day we were behind the Zags by 1 point. It fell apart after that, but for 30 minutes we were as good as the best team in the nation. I really didn't take too much from that game as a sign of where this team was headed. But after watching the team that destroyed us a week ago get destroyed tonight makes it seem we're light years away. And yet, Baylor is a team we hung with before losing and then of course defeated. Strange KU season and if there's no covid affecting Jalen possibly we finished the year on a higher note.

I have some hope for this roster but with a PG or two that knows how to control the game and is able to score.

Should lead to better looks consistently.

Pitiful end to the BIG season. Airball and a prayer that had no chance of being answered even by a very merciful and benevolent God.

Mar 31, 2021 03:59 AM #504

Wow. I did NOT see that coming.

The network suits must tearing out what's left of their hair.

Mar 31, 2021 12:05 PM #506

@mayjay I'm sorry, it was a prediction actually that bad sequence spelled doom for the maize and blue.

Mar 31, 2021 10:34 PM #507

@wissox As I watched I was wondering which of the last second shots you were referring to!

So, I went to Michigan (for law school) and never cared about basketball there. Never went to a game. No feeling either when they won in 1989, nor last night when they got upset.

Also was accepted to UCLA, where I applied just because I thought it would be fun to be in LA and because of their bb history (last champ was while I was a junior at KU). I actually feel more allegiance to a school I never went to. Weird, huh? (Being a Bruins fan was seriously tested when Lonzo was there, however!)

Looking forward to the F4 because I can cheer for all the schools--well, Kelvin can go suck eggs, but I am happy to see Grimes succeeding.

Apr 01, 2021 12:41 AM #508

So you were at KU in the 90’s when obannon and UCLA won or were you referring to their last 70’s championship?

UCLA is strange. They feel like they should be right up there with the rest of us blue bloods but I guess they’re living proof that a strong program can lose favor with the young guys who don’t know their history. Recruiting guys to UCLA should be the easiest part of the job for a Bruin coach but it’s not anymore.

Apr 01, 2021 02:23 AM #509

Former Jayhawk Evan Manning is currently a Graduate Assistant for Mark Few at Gonzaga if anyone wants a reason to justify cheering for Gonzaga.

Apr 01, 2021 02:45 AM #510

I like UCLAs roster. Definitely underdogs. Definitely try hard. They might get smoked but theyre easy to root for.

Apr 01, 2021 02:55 AM #511

@wissox The 75 season was indeed my freshman spring at KU. I forgot Harrick's title at UCLA--actually tuned out much of the world in the 90's!

Arizona taking it to UConn in the Women's Final Four up 11 halfway through the 2nd quarter.

Apr 03, 2021 02:54 AM #513

Zona up 9 going into the 4th. Their defense has absolutely shut down Paige Bueckers and UConn tonight.

Apr 03, 2021 03:29 AM #514

Apr 03, 2021 11:58 AM #516

Both games had huge blown calls in the last few minutes. I think they had more effect in the first game, but the second game's refs should feel really crappy when they review the tapes.

"You mean I called a foul on someone who never was closer than a foot?"

"Yep. Enjoy next season in HS ball."

I don't know. Gonzaga's offense is otherworldly. Baylor has the speed to rotate defensively and two big bodies to throw at Drew Timme, but idk. I think Timme might eat Baylor alive. I would feel better if Baylor still had Freddie Gillespie. Also going to depend on how the game is called.

Baylor offense is otherworldy today. - - I think Baylors 4 guards gonna give Gonzaga fits the way they pass the ball - don't think Gonzaga ha seen a defense as good as Baylor's defense in the tourney - -gonna be a good game. Ya Gonzaga could very easily win BUT I'm sticking with baylor - -they get beat -- they get beat but I don't think they gonna be able to toy with Baylor like they have so far with other teams

makes me go hmmm how Gonzaga mugs some people and nothing

Apr 04, 2021 01:33 AM #560

Officiating has been blatant in this game, and I don't really care who wins.

Apr 04, 2021 01:34 AM #561

I mean UCLA has gotten the worse side of the whistle and you'd have to be blind not to see it.

Apr 04, 2021 01:36 AM #562

UCLA only 7 points short of their total from the E8 win over Michigan. This pace absolutely favors Gonzaga and UCLA is really going to have to muddy the game up in the second half to have a chance and play at a snail's pace.

Apr 04, 2021 01:37 AM #563

UCLA is doing a really good job of playing at their pace. They are taking their time in half-court sets and not turning the ball over too much (just 5 for the game so far). Gonzaga hasn't had a lot of opportunity to get out and run, at least by their standards. Unfortunately for UCLA, Gonzaga is shooting 61% from the floor and 50% from 3. Yet UCLA is only down a point.

Apr 04, 2021 01:37 AM #564

Think UCLA has played about as well as they can play and now down by 1. - -think it's gonna catch up with them in the 2nd half Gonzaga probably win. - -Makes me feel even better about Baylor - -seeing when they play against an aggressive attack the rim type team - -a team that competes on the boards and gives Timme something to think about a little different story.

Gonzaga hasn't been tested in the Tourney tonight has played well -still think Baylor's 4 Guards - - - Butler - - Teague - - Mayer & Mitchell gonna cause them some problems

I think it might get a little ugly for UCLA in the 2nd half - but a really game plan in the 1st half - - UCLA shot 58% themselves

been pretty bad in favor of Gonzaga

Apr 04, 2021 01:41 AM #567

I think there's a good chance both teams come back to earth a little with shooting percentages. If UCLA can just keep playing at their pace and not turn the ball over in the 2nd half then they have a shot.

ya thats the HUGE thing, they have to stick to their game plan -- - be patient - - work the clock take advantage of mis matches - don't get sped up against these guys. Keep the game close into the last 5 minutes, where anyone's game see how Gonzaga withstands legit pressure. Again they haven't been challenged until tonight. - -UCLA led for like 18 of the 20 minutes in the 1st half.

The first 6-7 minutes of the 2nd half going to be HUGE for UCLA

Apr 04, 2021 01:51 AM #569

Is this halftime longer?

Apr 04, 2021 01:52 AM #570

CBS getting extra ads in? Did they cut out the Duke special? Something is different.

Apr 04, 2021 01:53 AM #571

I think Gonzaga's Kispert & Suggs going to find it a little harde rscoring 3's against Baylor's defense. Mitchell probably on Kispert maybe Butler on Suggs - gonna be a good game I hope

Apr 04, 2021 01:59 AM #572

John Beileins next excuse... "i didnt tell the team to stop acting like thugs. I said stop acting like Suggs"

Apr 04, 2021 02:05 AM #573

UCLA has gotten lucky - -real lucky a couple of times tonight , Gonzaga with a couple of wide - - wide - - open three's and missed. Kispert missed one , Timme missed one. That doesn't usually happen had ttime to set their feet just missed that's not going to happen very often especially with Kispert.

I said the first 6-7 minutes was going to be huge for UCLA they still right there

Apr 04, 2021 02:06 AM #574

Suggs might take over still.

Apr 04, 2021 02:08 AM #575

I really like Rileys awareness of the whole court and composure when he has the ball deep in the paint.

Apr 04, 2021 02:11 AM #576

4 point lead is Gonzaga's biggest lead of the night

Apr 04, 2021 02:14 AM #577

W. T. F. call. Flagrant 1 my ass

Apr 04, 2021 02:15 AM #578

There is the turning point of the game , mark it down 12:08 in the game now down 5 , mark my words with that call

Apr 04, 2021 02:16 AM #579

Every time take away baseline. Ive never seen Timme not go baseline

Apr 04, 2021 02:18 AM #580

Not stroking your unoriginal beard now Timme. Look kind of worried...

Apr 04, 2021 02:20 AM #581

these missed free throws gonna come back and haunt UCLA

Apr 04, 2021 02:20 AM #582

Zags getting the duke treatment. Turned it off after that BS flagrant and 1.

Never thought I'd root for Baylor, but I will.

Apr 04, 2021 02:23 AM #583

Was that NOT a walk by Timme ?

Apr 04, 2021 02:24 AM #584

Apr 04, 2021 02:25 AM #587

@DanR youre going to miss the greatest upset in recent memory. Its cool.

Apr 04, 2021 02:27 AM #588

Well win or lose you have to commend UCLA for keeping it close for this long. Tough team

Apr 04, 2021 02:27 AM #589

Tyger has been owning Suggs anticipating the charge

Apr 04, 2021 02:28 AM #590

Apr 04, 2021 02:30 AM #593

No matter the out come , you got to give UCLA major , major , major props. - -Gonzaga knows they been through a ball game

Juzang would've been a bust here. Homesickness was a big part of why he flamed out at Kentucky and would've happened here too. Same deal with Grimes, homesickness was a big part of his issues at Kansas.

Apr 04, 2021 02:43 AM #602

Jalen Suggs is a stud.

Apr 04, 2021 02:45 AM #603

Baylor used their A+ game tonight and Gonzaga is having their off night tonight. If Gonzaga holds on, they're going to beat Baylor by double digits.

Apr 04, 2021 02:46 AM #605

Wow bailed out on that one.

Apr 04, 2021 02:48 AM #606

I've seen that one called both ways. Overtime!

@Texas-Hawk-10 i was referring to the one where Jaquez drew the phantom foul. Bad call in favor of UCLA.

Apr 04, 2021 02:56 AM #612

UCLA mentally done? Leaving small defender on Timme

Apr 04, 2021 02:59 AM #613

Juzang hasnt gotten enough touches in OT.

Apr 04, 2021 03:01 AM #614

Wow. That may be it

Apr 04, 2021 03:02 AM #615

Apr 04, 2021 03:07 AM #623

Evan Manning is a GA at Gonzaga, Go Zags!

Apr 04, 2021 03:08 AM #624

Apr 04, 2021 03:08 AM #625

What is it that Bill Raftery says ? ONIONS !

Apr 04, 2021 03:08 AM #626

GREAT GREAT GAME BRUINS. - -no such thing as moral victorys , moral victories don't translate to W's but STILL nothing to be ashamed of by any means.

Suggs with a Christian Lattener type shot only further - -good defense arms straight up and you know he didn't call bank

Apr 04, 2021 03:10 AM #631

I woke up the kids yelling :)

Apr 04, 2021 03:11 AM #632

Glad I made it back from church service in time to catch the end. Guess I missed a good first 35 minutes.

Speaking of which, Happy Easter everyone !

Apr 04, 2021 03:56 AM #633

@nwhawkfan I didn't miss for church, but I'm glad you did! (priorities!). But I am visiting family, was having a great time playing games, totally forgot about the game. Came home, remembered they'd played, it was past 11 here in Pittsburgh and Figured it was over. I'd check score in a few minutes. When I did I couldn't believe that espn said 22 seconds left in OT. Quickly turned on TV to see Few shaking Cronin's hand. Started watching post game still unaware of how it'd ended until 5 minutes later they showed replay. Actually got my wife out of bed and said you've got to see this. Amazing. I wouldn't trade the fun evening with family but I'm a bit sad I missed the game, or at least the ending.

Apr 04, 2021 04:31 AM #634

And for those of you rooting for the Pac-12, there's always the women's final tomorrow. Stanford - Arizona. (And not an Auriemma in sight...)

Apr 04, 2021 04:58 PM #635

@approxinfinity She can't sing at all. Sounded and looked horrible.

Apr 04, 2021 05:01 PM #636

@approxinfinity There is a good deal of Leitner in him, and that is just as annoying now as it was then.

Apr 04, 2021 05:08 PM #637

We would feel differently about Timme if he got the KU offer that his dad was hoping for ngl.

Apr 04, 2021 05:09 PM #638

@BShark gross. Maybe theres a good reason other than perceived talent that we didn't offer.

Apr 04, 2021 05:14 PM #639

@approxinfinity At the time Udoka, Dave and Silvio were all on the roster is part of it.

Apr 05, 2021 12:11 AM #640

Stanford held off Arizona by 1 to win the women's national championship. Aari McDonald wa smothered on the last possession and had to throw up a prayer shot that bounced off the backboard.

This is Stanford's first title in 29 years and 3rd overall.

Apr 05, 2021 12:56 AM #641

@Texas-Hawk-10 That was the worst inbound strategy and execution I have ever seen.

"Okay, we want the ball in the hands of the best shooter we have ever had for the last shot. So, let's start with her tiny self in the lane and see what happens as our inbounder worries because no one is open, then looks away when our shooter gets open so she has to pass it while McD is running away from the basket. That way, our shooter will have to go back toward the basket drawing everbody in the arena to defend her. What could go wrong?"
