Thoughts On SE Mis St
Jul 04, 2017 01:57 PM #1

Who amongst ye already plans to be in Memorial Stadium on Sept. 2? After squinting for 20 years, I'm now a westsider.
The Redhawks from Cape Girardeau feature a pass first offense. Last year they averaged 213 passing vs. 135 rushing per game. Offensively challenged against the likes of Murray St., TN Martin and Austin Peay last year, I like that our young secondary will face a senior QB, Jesse Hoskett, who completed 50% of his passes with 11 TDs and 7 INTs. If Armstrong and company will let a few passes get thrown, our secondary should start the season under fire and give us a hint whether they will be up to the 2017 challenge.

Two months to go until we get this thing started. I hope everyone will make plans to be in Lawrence on Sept. 2. RCJHF

I plan on going for ether this game or the CMU game depending on how my work schedule turns out. Too early for me to make a prediction besides pain for the redhawks. SEMO at least seems to be better than Rhode Island who was one of, if not the worst team in FCS the past few years.

@kjayhawks The September 7 SE MO game and the recognition of the 2007 Orange Bowl team is the perfect way to start the 2017 season. Fans will be able to tailgate all afternoon ahead of the 6 PM start. This is a game to enjoy because the real season starts on Sept. 9 with the 3 PM Central Michigan game. RCJHF

@stoptheflop the orange bowl team is being honored the first game, not sure that is what you meant?

@Crimsonorblue22 His Sept 7 date was a typo. Sept 2.

And I think he means it will be fun because it should be an easy game for KU, while reality sets in a week later.

But I could just be projecting my own thoughts. Are there really any easy games for KU?

@mayjay that makes sense! I didn't want him to miss it!

I won't be at the stadium. Though I have looked at getting season tickets for next season if I can find a buddy or 2 to get some with me.

But, I will make sure to stream the game at home! Really excited to see how this team can look, and our new OC can scheme when he is as/more talented than his opponent.

I'll have to work the SEMO weekend, but am currently working to go to CMU game the following. I'm as excited as I've been since 09. But we still have a long ways to go, I want the longest road streak ended and 4 wins, that would be a good step IMO.

Can't make to the stadium and there's a big question mark on whether or not I'll even be able to watch the game anywhere since Harvey is supposed to make landfall sometime Friday night somewhere along the Texas coast and potentially dump 15" or more here in the Houston area this weekend.

Houston got put under a Tropical Storm watch earlier today so it could get really bad here this weekend. Most models right now have Houston on the dirty side of the storm so it's not looking great for Houston and the Texas and Louisiana coast's this weekend.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Heck, we got 8" in Lawrence a couple days ago. No excuses!

Thanks for all the replies. I sure would like to see more football discussion here since the season starts in a few days. I hope I'm not taking SE MO too lightly, but it should be a nice warm up game for the rest of the season. The Redhawks were just 3 and 8 last year, but played Memphis more competitively than we did. The Redhawks do return their starting QB from last year. Our team talent is on the rise and we will be competitive with everyone on our schedule this year. I'm looking forward to at least four wins this season and I won't be surprised by one or two more. RCJHF

@stoptheflop Not sure there is much to discuss until Beaty gives more info the the press or we see live games. Once games get started, I think we will have plenty of football activity.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Harvey is now forecast to be a Cat 3 hurricane when it hits. Good luck--be safe!

@Texas-Hawk-10 🙏 Be safe and smart! My brother and fam lives there too. Keep us posted.

@Texas-Hawk-10 are you stocked up? Do you need to get out? Let us know.

I'm good, I've got my water and some food. I'm not too worried even with the unexpected strengthening since I'm about 75 miles inland and on the same power grid as a hospital.

Aug 25, 2017 11:27 AM #17

I'm expecting Hurricane Meacham to unload a torrential offensive storm on the poor, poor Redhawks. The Jayhawk Air Raid Offense will rain down points from all directions. Be safe Texans, but look out Redhawks.

@Texas-Hawk-10 be safe buddy me and @stoptheflop already have limited football folks lol.

I want this game to be a solid, but conservative offensive performance. Solid. Bender takes care of the ball and doesn't turn it over. RBs find some holes and make consistent gains. WRs run accurate routes and make some decent catches. On defense, this should be a confidence building game. The secondary should be able to break up pass plays and the defensive line should get 5 or 6 sacks. My hope is to dominate the game on both sides of the ball and come out with no injuries. All eyes then on the Central Michigan game where we will run more of the offense and the defense better bring the heat. RCJHF
