Kam McGusty Transferring
Mar 26, 2018 02:22 PM #1

Rough times for Lonny boy. Was Un Young worth it?

Mar 26, 2018 02:29 PM #2

Maybe Lon will be transferring, too? TBA.

Mar 26, 2018 02:51 PM #3

@BShark Shepard too

@BShark

I knew that team wasn't all coming back. Surprised by McGusty leaving but his demeanor on the court and style of play certainly could be interpreted as less then positive

Yeah, not as high of an impact but still worth mentioning. OU is in deep doo doo. Gotta try to find multiple impact level players late. Unlikely...

@BeddieKU23 They stunted his development so Un could chuck. I can see why that upset him.

Among players with at least 50 ISO possessions a year ago, McGusty (57 poss.) ranked 17th nationally in Division I in points per possession. Best in Big 12. Had just 17 ISO possessions this year, Trae Young had 157.

@BShark Lon didn’t man up and coach! He wanted to coach Trae young team for ESPN not ou. Lost respect for him

Mar 26, 2018 03:12 PM #8

@BShark

Bingo!

McGusty will be very good for someone else. Imagine he'll have a ton of teams after him

Mar 26, 2018 03:14 PM #9

@BeddieKU23 He's going to make another coach very happy. Imagine he will end up at another P5 school.

Definitely, a 4th year junior with a year off to learn somewhere else with his shooting ability. Buckets for someone. Wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in the SEC

Lon took the gamble, and he selected the "shiny box" Trae. As we all know... it requires special coaching. It requires a sales job on all the players that one player has special rights the others don't have, but somehow, we will end up playing like a "team."

I wonder where we would be right now if Trae had signed with Kansas?

I also wonder where we would be right now if Preston had stayed and been cleared (doubtful anyways)?

My gut tells me we wouldn't be in the Final Four if we had either of those guys.

What has pulled us through is the bond our guys have and they know they are individually responsible for helping the team cross the finish line ahead of the pack.

Last night it was the outrageous offensive show of Malik. What will it be next week? Maybe Devonte is ready for a break-out game? Or will it be Vick, who suddenly looks like pre-conference Vick? Or how about Doke get his conditioning back and stay out of foul trouble and dominate? Svi can suddenly get hot, or can just take the ball to the hole. Maybe Silvio is ready for a monumental performance?

@Kcmatt7 @BeddieKU23 OU people think there might be MORE transfers to come.

Mar 26, 2018 04:37 PM #13

In theory, Young with shooters around him spacing the floor should have been a brilliant combination. That never came to fruition. OU guys didn't make open shots, Young threw too many difficult passes, nothing worked the way it should have. I'm not sure what the basketball reasons for that were.

Mar 26, 2018 04:38 PM #14

@BShark

OU’s season went from most popular kid in school to the crapper in no time flat. Kruger clearly wasted all the available talent not named Young...and even that, he handled it poorly.

Mar 26, 2018 04:40 PM #15

I think a lot of coaches will learn their lesson if more OU players transfer. I mean I would have been pissed to if someone I played with shot as much as TY.

Mar 26, 2018 04:41 PM #16

@JayHawkFanToo OU didn't have a lot of talent around Young. That was largely the same core of players who finished 9th in the Big 12 in 2017.

Doolittle seems like an easy candidate. Missed half the season with academics. I think he was suspended freshman year for something else. I can see Freeman leaving as well

Mar 26, 2018 04:57 PM #18

@BeddieKU23 OU insiders are saying now 1 more minimum, maaaybe 2. Brutal.

Mar 26, 2018 05:01 PM #19

@BeddieKU23 Many OU fans thinking Doolittle is the one for sure also leaving but haven't seen it from insiders yet.

JUCO Austin Trice would be a fairly natural replacement for Doolittle and they have targeted him.

@Texas-Hawk-10

OU had raw talent that could have been developed if not so busy working with Young. I am not saying it had top shelf talent but enough of it to be a much better team that what it ended up being.

@JayHawkFanToo

I have to admit I was shocked at their final results this year.

I know Trae got exposed a bit, so teams scouted and took away parts of his game. He also wore down. It's hard to play that many minutes, getting all that attention on the floor. Just ask Devonte!

I thought Lon would have more going on with everyone NOT named Trae.
