I and several others stated earlier in the week which team shot better from distance probably wins and that what happened. Some were open for them and some were guarded too. We definitely missed our far share of open looks from distance and that was the difference tonight.

We won in almost every statistical category besides shooting, now some of that is on our defense, but idc who you are it’s tough to 13-21 from 3 point land as team practicing in an empty gym.

I proposed that is our lack of defensive philosophy to disrupt the 3 point or beyond the ark movement that has contributed to our last 2 losses against Villanova.

That allowed them to be highly confident and fully break us down.

How much of that due to philosophy and how much due to personnel (or lack thereof) can be debated.

In this year’s instance, I think it’s both.

@Bwag I disagree, the lack of our guards being able to stop the dribble drive was the difference IMO. They drove, we helped and then they kicked out for a 3. Most teams won’t have 6 guys hit multiple 3s in one game. If I’m playing against us defensively, I know that I can prob get help off of Vick’s, Garrett’s and Dokes man if needed most the time. Having an athletic big that can help and hit 3s like Paschall was huge. We had no one that could help defensively that didn’t leave a shooter open as stated 6 guys hit multiple 3s and a 7th hit one.

We needed to not help out on the dribble drive essentially give them layups or floaters all game. They drive to kick not to usually score

@kuballin10 Yep I said that all week and at half time, but heck who would've figured they shoot like that especially in a dome....just not our day.

How much of our issue there is due our physical inability and how much is due to a choice to switch off - perhaps contributing to a mindset that they don’t have to stay in front? I think that contributes.

@Bwag Switching and doubling inside is what we did through conference play (until SDS became effective) to protect Doke from having to defend one on one in the post, and to keep him from fouling out.

@mayjay We should have just let him foul out.
