Big fan of the kid! Will be one of the guys I root for at the next level.

@approxinfinity I really wish Self could’ve landed this kid. Think of how good he would be with better coach.

@kjayhawks

I doubt Self would have handled Bamba much different than Smart did. Remember what Self said about Josh Jackson - he's only here for a year, so we aren't going to try to make a lot of changes. Bamba would have played the same type of role at KU, mostly shotblocker, rim rolling guy. Step out and hit a jumper here and there, although I doubt he would have shot many threes at KU. I don't think KU would have wanted to try to do more with Bamba than Texas did.

@justanotherfan

Same role but much different results...:smiley:

@JayHawkFanToo

Better surrounding talent would have helped him for sure playing with that level of shooting around him on the perimeter, plus some inside muscle with Doke.

Mo Bamba is going to be a top 5 pick, going to Texas didn't impact his stock at all.

@Texas-Hawk-10

Remember? KU was one big away from a national championship. With Big 12 Title and a NCAA championship he is the next Anthony Davis...:smile:

Jun 11, 2018 04:56 PM #8

He certainly wasn't him in college!

Jun 11, 2018 05:33 PM #9

Supporting cast for Anthony at UK >>>>>> supporting cast for Bamba at Texas...and much better coaching as well...and better facilities...and better audience...and better exposure...

Anthony Davis would have been great at Texas

Jun 11, 2018 07:34 PM #11

Anthony Davis would have been great at Texas-San Antonio. He wouldn't have won a national title, but he's a generational talent. He could have gone to any program in the country and still turned out roughly the same (barring injury).

Mo Bamba blocked 8 shots against us the one time he faced us. Granted two of them were on the way down but also 12.5 feet in the air. 15 rebounds and 22 pts on 9/16. That's pretty awesome.

Jun 12, 2018 12:54 AM #13

@JayHawkFanToo Bamba wouldn't have made a difference against Nova for KU.

Jun 13, 2018 11:51 AM #14

@Texas-Hawk-10 So you're saying Bamba couldn't guard out on the floor?

Jun 13, 2018 12:19 PM #15

@HighEliteMajor

"Bamba switching onto a smaller guard and holding his own. His length and foot speed allows him to stay and recover with more nimble perimeter guys": https://t.co/dOiUIr2ofa ↗

Bamba hung out with JoJo for a week, said he can't wait to play him, and said he's a better Twitter troller than Embiid. Lol

Jun 13, 2018 12:50 PM #17

@HighEliteMajor I don't think it would have. Nova was too hot early on and KU was too ice cold the first 10 minutes of the game that I don't think Bamba would've made enough of a difference to keep that game competitive.

Jun 13, 2018 10:38 PM #18

@Texas-Hawk-10 their 2 bigs were 16 of 26, hitting 7 threes, Spellman had 13 of their 33 rebounds and they tied us on rebounds. At one point we just gave up when we realized that Udoka was useless, leading to an additional run. A healthy Bamba (he was injured so maybe a moot point) would have made a huge difference.

Jun 14, 2018 01:41 AM #19

@approxinfinity With the way Nova shot, I don't think the outcome changes. Maybe a 10 point loss instead of 17 or whatever the final ended up being.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I know your opinion is yours, but I think that actually having a defensive plan that guarded the three point line could have changed the dynamic. Few in the hot stretch were "guarded." Further, a long, athletic freak like Bamba surely would have been a impediment to open threes. Of course, without an effective game plan to guard the three point line, it's moot.
