Do the “Unofficial Visit” players spend time with current players, get tours, etc? Other than paying their own way, what’s the difference? Thanks in advance!

They’re in town for a shorter period of time. A lot of guys within driving distance just come for the the event and the next morning.

Looks like Braun could be added to that list soon.

Don't feel bad , looks to me however you try twisting this around , doesn't matter how many angles blinking of the eye's - -reference ( I dream of Genie ) - - - - twitching of the nose ( Bewitched ) - -Or clicking of the ruby red slippers - ( the wizard of Oz ) - I just can't get it to work out as a solid recruit - -a Kansas commit. - -The kid just doesn't have it - not at a School like KU - still scratching my head trying to see WHAT I'M MISSING.

I know this sounds like a knock on the kid - - and it's not - it really isn't - -I mean sure he has a few skills BUT KU skills? - -the typical recruit that KU is in the mix/hunt for? - - - ummmm no. - -If you look at his jumper if that is what it is - -seems to me at least half of the shots were flat footed set shots - THAT'S not going to get it done in College - -not extremely quick - -so where is it at?

He would be a good player at say like a little lesser known a little lower maybe like just for College Wise like say Murray State - - or maybe New Mexico State - -or Liscomb - - -or Austin Peay Schools of that Caliber - I just don't see and I've tried looking multiple times - I just don't see it. - -Then again that's why Coach Self is at where he is at and I'm at where I'm at lol. - - -ROCKCHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@jayballer73 Before KU got involved he was believed to be a pretty big Missouri lean. I mentioned it in the recruiting thread earlier I think but his older brother is on the team this year and his mom is a Missouri grad.

He has a lot of D-1 offers. Its hard to evaluate him off highlights alone but we know his shortcomings immediately. Self wants shooters, he needs shooters. It's extremely unlikely that he'd help next years squad but I think a lot of teams probably see his value down the line..

Sep 04, 2018 02:50 PM #12

The end of the OAD might be coming sooner than expected and the better players might no longer be available to play college ball so the recruiting game will change quite a bit with lower ranked players becoming hotter commodities.

Sep 04, 2018 05:32 PM #13

@JayHawkFanToo yeah guys ranked 20-50 should be a hot commodity for KU going forward. #200-500 not so much. Braun is a head scratcher.

Sep 04, 2018 06:33 PM #14

How about this kid ↗, Isaac McBride?

Sep 04, 2018 07:01 PM #15

@JayHawkFanToo I think there is a big difference and McBride is a lot better. Rankings wise they are similar right now though.

Kind of along the lines you talk about. - There has been talk like with this yrs class , this isn't as deep of a class as far as talent but yet that a school can take a player in the 40-50 range that is still going to be a pretty good talented kid - so you could very easily see that more especially this year

No way a recruit of his stature is paying his own way. I added him to officials based on a Shay article saying it is an official after searching on twitter.

Also found this GEM:

Indiana isn't even recruiting him, maybe someone should tell him lmao.

Sep 13, 2018 05:34 PM #25

@BShark

Don't those West Coast players tend to stay in the West Coast? I see UCLA, USC, Arizona and Arizona State are recruiting him.

Sep 13, 2018 05:50 PM #26

They tend to, just like kids from the northeast tend to stay there. Roy had great success in getting kids from out there though.

He has a final 6.

Arizona, Kansas, Oregon, Texas, UCLA and USC

And it's believed the 4 main players are USC (favorite), KU, UT and Oregon. UCLA has three commits that are guards/wings.

Do we know where this will be televised? ESPN+ I assume.

@Kcmatt7 Also channel 38 if you are close enough to KC.

Here are the details for the Kansas men’s basketball team’s 34th annual 2018 Late Night in the Phog at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence:

Date: Friday, Sept. 28

Time: 6:30 p.m.

TV: Jayhawk Network (ESPN+ streaming, KMCI [Channel 38] in KC area, or Cox Cable elsewhere in Kansas)

Doors open: 4:30 p.m. for students, 5 p.m. for general public

Admission: Free

Looks like the Wichita/Hutchinson area should be able to get it on Cox 2022. Fingers crossed:basketball_player_tone3:

Sep 25, 2018 07:42 PM #32

It's on my guide. 🤩 i still couldn't find it on espn+ on the search. I actually have a ticket to go, but I have a torn meniscus and the stairs, especially going down, cause me great pain. I've been debating it. Thx for info!

@Crimsonorblue22

Prayers for your son. Hope you get to go!

Hurt?

Sep 25, 2018 11:42 PM #36

@wrwlumpy we must think he would appreciate a visit on his own.

Sep 26, 2018 12:24 AM #37

So Hurt is not coming this weekend?

Sep 26, 2018 12:25 AM #38

He hasn't scheduled any OVs yet. I would bet money on him coming during a basketball game.

BShark said:

makes more sense so the KU Coaching Staff could give him more of their undivided attention - -spend more time with him - instead of a night like late night where your dealing with 11 - -12 --13- -kids or so. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 26, 2018 12:46 AM #40

Does anyone know how effective Late Night really is? I’m just curious if this really is a better visit than 1 on 1s during an actual game? To me it seems weird. But we don’t have a ton of 2019 guys coming, so maybe it’s a great thing if a couple of them really hit it off.

Sep 26, 2018 01:44 AM #41

@Kcmatt7 depends on the kid really. It hooked Jo and Wayne immediately. I think we also get a lot of guys who want to see the spectical for an official but don’t really have serious interest in KU.

Sep 26, 2018 04:23 AM #42

Sep 26, 2018 06:39 AM #43

Seems like a pretty good group of players attending, any predictions about anyone signing?

Sep 26, 2018 05:53 PM #44

Per Adam Zagoria, Hampton’s dad said RJ will not be attending Late Night.

“He won’t attend Kansas’ ‘Late Night in the PHog,’ but will be at the USA Basketball minicamp in Colorado Springs, Col., Oct 5-7, and will then visit Kentucky for Big Blue Madness Oct. 12.”

Kcmatt7 said:

Well I agree but rj has no bearing on that. Stanley is a flashy name but mcbride could easily have a better impact long term.

Sep 26, 2018 06:11 PM #49

I don't know that it impacts RJs decision, but just so we aren't left out in the cold with only Charlie at PG.

Sep 26, 2018 06:13 PM #50

@Kcmatt7 lots of options in 2020

Sep 26, 2018 06:15 PM #51

Not a big deal on Hampton IMO. He came last year and still can come back for another official next fall or for a game. Doesn’t bother me that he wants to watch his friends play football.

Sep 26, 2018 06:27 PM #52

Kcmatt7 said:

You don't expect Dotson on the roster in 19-20?

Sep 26, 2018 06:32 PM #53

I expect him in 2019-2020, but not 2020-2021. Would leave us with just a senior Moore unless we landed someone else, right?

And if we don't land Hampton, the person we do land is likely a program player. So I was just thinking I'd rather have a sophomore McBride coupled with a Senior Moore. And when McBride MIGHT have to take over as the main PG, he would at least be a jr.

But I could be thinking crazy things.

Sep 26, 2018 06:54 PM #54

@Kcmatt7 what’s the thinking? 2020 is a loooong way off.

Sep 26, 2018 07:01 PM #55

@Kcmatt7

I can see that happening. I expect at least 2 seasons from Dotson but it could be 3 if we are lucky.

I don't know if the staff views Moore as a potential starting PG. We'll see soon enough.

Otherwise I do think it would be beneficial to keep the roster relatively open for elite level talents to come in 2020, a class that has a ton of perimeter talent already popping up. We are likely to have Moore, Garrett, Agbaji & Braun at the minimum so I would think the focus would be on bringing in elite talent to mix in. A lot will change between even this fall and the spring recruiting wise

Sep 27, 2018 11:41 AM #56

Also read off Zagsblog - - - -that Elijah Woods a 2020 kid from Sunrise Acad will also be here on an un-official a 6'5 point guard from Potomac MD # 102 has 22 offers at present. - - EH - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 27, 2018 12:34 PM #57

@jayballer73 Yeah, all of Sunrise will be there.

Sep 27, 2018 09:00 PM #58

Updated OP with the final list. Two new visitors and removed RJ Hampton.

Sep 27, 2018 09:45 PM #59

For those whom care or need the perspective Rivals has the recruits ranked:

2019
- Wiseman #2
- JRE #10

- Nnaji #37
- Walker #76
- Chandler Lawson #87

I know there are some big names , but does anyone feel like this is a smaller group than usual?

Maybe it’s just me.

  • I remember Matt Scott saying the staff actually prefers to do OV not on Late Night so that they have more one on one time with kids.

Move JRE to hash tag # fire emoticon. It’s waaaaaay too early to rank 2020 guys, unless you know better than they do where they’re going. KU isn’t serious about many 2020 guys at all yet. Nnaji will likely wait until spring. Some blue blood (KU, UK) or high tier program (IU, blah blah) will probably have a spot left and will duke it out then. Still think Lawson ends up at Memphis.

Sep 28, 2018 12:05 PM #64

@FarmerJayhawk Yeah I just assumed with the Lawson connection that it's like KU vs Memphis for the most part. Then I had Thompson there because his dad played for Self. There is a chance KU doesn't really prioritize either of course.

Hopefully JRE commits and doesn't even bother taking his Arizona visit.

Zeke waiting would be nice. Seeming more and more like Hurt is going to be a later decision as well.

Sep 28, 2018 01:09 PM #65

Forgot Chandler was even visiting.

Zeke coming in is big, didn't think that was happening at all. If he waits we definitely have another big to hedge in the fallout of JRE/Hurt

Sep 28, 2018 07:15 PM #66

First twittering of the day from any of the 19 recruits.

Sep 28, 2018 07:18 PM #67

I'm really curious about how the staff could be selling on JRE and Hurt playing together. Have to think it is one or the other, right?

Sep 28, 2018 07:21 PM #68

@Kcmatt7 see the Morrii for examples.

Sep 28, 2018 07:46 PM #69

@FarmerJayhawk I just don't think either will be physically capable of guarding and rebounding well enough to play them together. But I could be wrong.

Sep 28, 2018 08:51 PM #70

JRE is one of the best rebounders in the class. Hurt can grab his share as well.

Sep 28, 2018 10:28 PM #71

@FarmerJayhawk It's different going against grown ass men who have been hitting the weights for 2-3 years though. Neither are built like gladiators (De Sousa) and Bill hasn't exactly been the best with frosh bigs... I'm just voicing concerns. Odds are both will be capable rebounders and it won't be an issue.

Playing time is an issue as well. I'm sure they are being sold on both starting, but McCormack is really good and there is a dream scenario where Silvio is back.

If the staff pulls it off, I'll be impressed.

Oct 04, 2018 04:35 PM #73

Didn't want to start a new thread, but just read that Memphis is bringing in Drake and Justin Timberlake for their late night. That is some heavy hitting. I guess the demand for tickets was so big that they were able to sell them.

No doubt Penny has created a incredible buzz, but time will tell if he can coach.

Oct 04, 2018 04:50 PM #74

That's absolutely crazy lol. I like who we've gotten lately, but that's just not even in the same league.

Oct 05, 2018 02:12 AM #75

?s=21

Looks like either Drake and JT no showed or that was some bad information...

Oct 06, 2018 06:03 AM #76

To be honest, I don't care who Kentucky has playing,,,,, because I think they overplayed their hand, and are going to whiff on the big guys. They'll get Carey, and that's about it.
