KU following a loss under Bill Self
Jan 08, 2019 07:05 PM #1

FYI Self hasn't lost back to back conference games since the Topeka YMCA season in 2012-13.

We looked baddd Saturday but hopefully that lit a fire under some guys and getting back home will help that. Have to think we see a different team then we saw Saturday despite the big loss of Doke.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

I'll be interested to see what Bill does knowing that we basically are down to two bigs and only have 5 guards.

When we were thin in 2012, Bill went pick and roll with T-Rob and Tyshawn. He also force fed T-Rob the ball at the top of the key and let him shoot and drive.

When we were hot garbage and just not a good team in 2015, Self invented Bad Ball.

When we had only guards in 17 and 18, Bill adapted to 4 out run and gun.

This group is a challenge though. None of those options really seem to fit well. Lawson isn't good enough to carry a team like T-Rob. Dotson could play bad ball, but we don't defend well enough to do it. We don't shoot well enough to play a 4 out worth a damn.

I'm really hoping we see something from Bill we've never seen before... Otherwise it'll be a long 3 months.

And we still won B12 in '11, '12 with F4, AND shared '13...I don't like sharing, but we may have a shot to win it all or at least share. If they don't get things straight freakin' TT and ISU will be celebrating winning or sharing, and ending our streak.

Here's where it all begin...

Nice to have TCU at home ...

@HighEliteMajor right! TCU away was the second loss in that sequence in 2012.

If we do lose - at least we have football to look forward to .......................

@BeddieKU23 So, 2011-2012 was a F4 year, and the next season we had the 2 loss sequence. Let us hope we don't establish a pattern tomorrow.

@HighEliteMajor

Better guards then we just faced. We will be lucky to survive but I think these guys will play inspired

Playing in Allen should help.

This league is silly. Maybe Bill finds enough magic, everyone else trips over themselves and KU wins the league again.

That's the key - it is not that we win every game against everyone - but others stumble against teams we do not.

Everyone was saying Baylor is not any good and then they beat the team that throttled us. From what i saw BU looked pretty good to me....active post man that scores in and out, strong offensive boarding and 3 guards who can hit the 3. They are all gonna be hard.

@Fightsongwriter

at home they looked good. Their starting 5 isn't bad but Makai Mason has to have 25 point nights like he did for them to look decent.

When KU plays Baylor we will have to pray we can make perimeter shots. But Self usually has a way of getting under Drew's skin anyway so maybe worrying about nothing

Baylor is bad, they are 9-5.

Still not sure how this KU team beat MSU and Tenn.

Doke was just a horrible matchup for both teams. Especially MSU and Ward.

@BShark "Still not sure how this KU team beat MSU and Tenn."

It's because we didn't know we were this bad.

Fair point. Poor Doke. :(

That's probably the biggest thing KU is going to miss. There would have been a handful of games coming up where Doke held such an advantage that he would have changed the complexion of the game on his own. No question when Doke was engaged and having his way in the post everything else seemed to work itself out. Self mentioned Doke was sort of a security blanket and that's true. Now KU is forced to see who can step up in his absence...
