Difference Between "Really" and "Really, Really"
Mar 20, 2014 05:34 PM #1

Part of what I really like about Coach Self is the way he talks. Really. I was born in Kansas, and Oklahoma is like "Kansas South" in many regards. Really. Like the way we express ourselves in really simplified and coded language. Really.

In an interview today, Coach Self was asked on the status of Joel Embiid and he gave a really Midwestern reply. Really. He really did parse his words in Midwestern code. Really. Because here in the Midwest, we really, really love the word "really" and we define it to our own needs.

Because of the real possibility of one of our future competitors scouting our team through this website, which, by the way, is really, really the best source for our opponents to really study, I'm not going to really get into the real definitions us Midwesterners have created for that term. Really.

So Coach Self let us all know the real status of Joel Embiid, really, and he spoke in code so no non-Midwesterner could decipher it. Brilliant... really brilliant!

"β€œHe’s doing really well, but we’ve told him we were not going to put him on a practice floor until he does really, really well with the rehab,” Self said."

I'm glad we all know the difference between "really" and "really, really!" Really!

@drgnslayr really? I would be really, really happy to see him on the floor Sunday, if we really need him!

@Crimsonorblue22

Be really careful here in your responses... really. We don't want to tip off UNM and others about if Joel is really out for the entire weekend. Really.

@drgnslayr That is really funny.

Never really thought of Kansans that way, really.

@Wishawk it's really just drgnslayr, not the rest of us!!

Mar 20, 2014 08:38 PM #6

Really?

Mar 20, 2014 10:23 PM #7

@Crimsonorblue22 Ha! You meant the rest of the farmers? :)

When people talk about Wisconsin, somehow moooo is always lumped into the conversation. :(

Now I wish mooo of Ohio State played like Wisconsin cheese and keep my bracket somewhat respectable.

You have introduced linguistics into March Madness. This is something I have longed to do, but have never been able to pull off.

Really is the midwestern equivalent of a Chinese pronunciation of an ideogram that can have 20 different meanings.

Bill Self the Tumbled Weed Buddhist reins really supreme.

Rock Chalk!

Great quiz from the New York Times which identifies where you come from down to the city. I took it and it had me in Overland Park, through Des Moines, which is close enough to be scary. I thought others might enjoy taking it.

@lincase

That was a scream... but how do you know if they are cheating? They can sniff out your IP address and know exactly where you are from and then are geniuses when the results match your IP. Granted... it works if you are taking the test from where you are from.

Mar 22, 2014 12:22 AM #17

@drgnslayr you could download tor browser or download a browser plugin to proxy your ip and try it..

The game made me really really nervous

Mar 22, 2014 03:55 AM #19

@wissoxfan83 Glad to see your Badgers rolling. I picked them to beat Zona in a few of my brackets.

Mar 22, 2014 01:06 PM #20

@approxinfinity

Big game tonight against Oregon. I saw your bracket, you're quite the prognosticator! Mine is a disaster.

Mar 22, 2014 04:15 PM #21

@drgnslayr It never occurred to me that The New York Times would cheat. That said, what I don't know about technology would fill volumes.

Mar 22, 2014 05:23 PM #22

@lincase

I'm not saying they are... but my final result had me from Kansas... however, after each question it showed the hot/cold map and most of my answers didn't flow with being from Kansas.

It was fun to take!
