Dixon to UCLA
Apr 04, 2019 03:11 PM #1

I'm hearing from several outlets that Dixon is currently in talks with the bruins to become their next head coach. Kinda of surprising in many ways with TCU being his Alma mater and him never really getting his feet down with injuries. I think he's a good coach and it's a lost for the conference depending on if he actually goes and whom his replacement is, here is the espn link http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/26431639/sources-ucla-talks-tcu-dixon-job ↗

Thoughts?

Good for him but bad for TCU and Big 12.

Man, I thought UCLA should have gone after Bruce Pearl. That dude brings energy wherever he goes.

Didn't even realize Pitino had been begging for the job. UCLA screwed this up about as bad as they could have. Cronin is a solid choice and his style can won at UCLA (similar style to Howland), but can he recruit out there is the big question.

How can you criticize Self for the Adidas allegations, and then defend Pearl who is a proven walking violation. This is why he's at Auburn. Tennessee kinda fired him and it has been proven to be a pretty good move for all parties. Pearl then sit out for some time as a coaching commentator for a few years for CBS Sports. They let his violations fade away and now he is a coaching genius for taking Auburn deep in the tourney.

Self is innocent until proven guilty, at least that's the way the American justice system works. However, the innocent are guilty until proven innocent.

No, I wouldn't touch Pearl with a ten foot pole, Auburn be damned.

That's what @Hem meant by energy=violations.

@truehawk93 Who says Self is innocent until proven guilty? This isn’t a criminal court. I’m comfortable connecting dots. But then again, it’s just one guy’s dot connecting.

I’m not suggesting that Self should resign or be fired. So I’m missing your point there. But I can sure as h*ll criticize Self for this Adidas mess. He’s the boss. He’s in charge. And he used Adidas to recruit.

Maybe your point is to trash Pearl. But I’m not defending Pearl. I just appreciate what he’s done and the type of coach he is. Not someone I’d want over Self. But he has done an amazing job at Auburn. Pearl paid for his issues.

Every successful basketball program is guilty. Every head coach knows what's going on and probably organizes a lot of the dealings. They don't get busted on it because it's a system set up for coaches to have plausible deniability of accusations. Players getting paid for to attend a school has been going on since the end of WWII. I would bet money KU and Phog Allen didn't land Wlit without giving Wilt some type of incentive to head out to Kansas.
