Had some time today so I made a sheet of the roster using both the participation report and official roster from KU. Full sheet here ↗. Disclaimer: the scholarship vs. walk-on thing is an informed guess on my part. Let me know if I've made mistakes.

Found some interesting things. As of right now, we have 76 on scholarship (I think). 10 true freshman, 6 RS freshman, 5(!) sophomores, 8 RS sophomores, 10 juniors, 15(!) RS juniors, 14(!) seniors, and 8 RS seniors.

Of the 76 on scholarship, only 8 can still redshirt taking into account games already played in 2019: Valerian Agbaw, Torry Locklin, Steven Parker, Dom Williams, Marcus Harris, Earl Bostick, Atoine Frazier, and DaJon Terry.

Assuming we sign the full 25, plus add greyshirts, Jordan Medley, Jereme Robinson, and APH, we'll be at 82. That's the absolute ceiling and assumes 0 attrition (not going to happen. Like at all).

Miles needs two more years (after next year) to get us to the full scholarship limit of 85. That's part of the long process ahead of putting together program depth after so many rough years.

If Miles holds that group together, every single kid on that list is an incoming freshman. That would be a huge get. All of them are likely four year players. And while it's doubtful that any of those kids becomes an All-American, that class has the look of a group that could produce 15 guys that are productive players by the time their careers in Lawrence are done. If you can put one or two stars on each side of the ball around them, well, then you have something really special.

Next year's class is the foundation to build on, with the goal being that's the first class that gets to go bowling at the end of the season (unless we get a late push this season).

It looks like he has already used a RS year, so he would have to get a waiver. Otherwise, he's a senior next year.

I didn’t consider medicals. Just didn’t have enough to go on. Prox would need one since he’s already used his standard RS year.

Prox could apply for a medical red shirt and my guess would be he could get one at this point. I was told he hasn’t been able to practice at all. @FarmerJayhawk I think that’s a touch high on the scholarship number but Ik Beaty gave several walk ons scholarships. We should starting gaining a few guys every year starting with this recruiting class. As @justanotherfan said it will take at a minimum two more classes on top this one to get back to the 85. I hope the rule Jeff Long and several others are lobbing for happens. He wants a rule to where you can sign as many as 35 in a single class as long as you don’t go over 50 in a 2 year period. I think that rule would not only help us but make it to where most schools can stay at 85. To me that makes for better football.

Also makes for safer football. Every team needs depth for practice and games. It's just a must. One of the things that made KU so overmatched earlier this decade was the fact that many of the players that they had on scholarship were actually walkons from lower level programs (D2, NAIA). Being overmatched, or lacking in depth, can lead to injuries. I think a rule that would allow schools to sign enough to get back to 85 would be a big help.

Post-KSU update. Didn't burn anyone's redshirt. Of note, Earl Bostick and Thomas MacVittie got their first game action. Bostick and Marcus Harris (freshman DE) can therefore play the rest of the year and take still redshirt. Don't see any downside if they can help us.

Post-Okie Lite. Agbaw, Locklin, Parker, Dom Williams, Harris, Bostick, Frazier, Borcila, and Terry are the scholarship players who can RS. Agbaw and Frazier haven't seen any snaps and I don't expect that to change. Bostick has seen action the last 2 games so I expect him to play the rest of the year. Terry can also play the last 2. Borcila has played 4 so he's done. Locklin and Parker have played in 3.

Best I can tell, here's the scholarship breakdown, current as of today. Key takeaways: yuuuuge junior class, tiny sophomore class. Those will keep us around 75 until 2022 (thanks, Dave!). Not a lot in the trenches either. Buckle up my dudes, it could be another 3-9 2020 season.

2020 update, best I can tell. Still way out of whack as far as classes go (huge senior and freshman groups, tiny SO/JR). I guessed on a few walk-on/scholarship guys so count may not be perfect.

Myself I'm starting to get tingly feelings when I see some these recruits that we are in on these days. - -Recruits we would not even had a sniff at in the past. Now we might not be getting comittments at the present , BUT even being in the same ballpark and seeing some of the others that are recruiting these guys.

Seen some interesting things today , were in the hunt on some very nice players, makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Now we have to get some more W's to be able to close out on some of these guys and get this corner turned.

Wonder if the conference will let us play SIU on the 29th. I think it would be safer because it gives us 2 weeks before the conference would start. Meaning if we had a positive test, we could still be ready

Yes, it’s possible. But that game probably won’t happen on week zero now. It wouldn’t make sense to go a month between games if the league schedule gets pushed to late September.

Big 12 said mid to late September so I'm guessing they're looking at either September 19 or 26 to start, depending on how many bye weeks they want teams to have. That would mean that KU's first two games are probably going to be changed since KU is supposed to play Baylor on Sept. 12.

I also still wouldn't be shocked if it ends up being a conference only schedule in the end for both the B12 and ACC because I just can't see FCS football happening this year with the amount of testing they'll have to do and those programs already operating in the red.

Part of the $300k going to SIU was for them to implement Big 12 testing protocols. The other possible wrench is once the game is rescheduled, KU will have to quit camp for a week to "give back" the time they practiced in preparation for week zero since we're likely not playing then.

@FarmerJayhawk Those schools still operate in the red. And the MVFC still hasn't officially announced anything about football yet, just their other fall sports being delayed. Financially, it's better for most of these FCS schools, if not all of them, to not have a football season because SIU specifically usually loses between $2.5-3 million per year on football.

First, every freshman in the 2020 class gets a free RS. So you can throw Daniels or Medley out there and see what they've got, assuming Kendrick and MacVittie aren't the answer. Next, freshmen that had to play out of necessity last year (Potter, Gardner, Logan) will get their RS year. Finally, any senior that wants another year can have one. Prox and Naylor were considering applying for a 6th, now they have if if they want it. And we can possibly get a few OL to stay and allow the 20 signees to sit and develop for another year. I wouldn't hate seeing Robinson and Parchment back for another year either.
