🏀 KuBuckets Archive

Read-only archive of KuBuckets.com (2013-2025)
Can we please start archiving or condensing our Topics?
Oct 28, 2013 04:31 PM #1

I realize this is hypocritical of me to suggest the reduction of threads whilst creating new one, however, I wanted to assure that we get this addressed.

First of all, I am very thankful that this site was set up and there is so much excitement surrounding it and the upcoming basketball season. Again, many thanks to all of the contributors for keeping this family alive.

That being said, the site is becoming very disheveled, in my humble opinion.

Here are my suggestions--let's please work together on this in a democratic fashion, if we can.

  1. Topics would be easier to follow if they list by date--in order from newest to oldest.
  2. Topics more than 5 days old, should be archived or in a different viewing screen.
  3. Limit of 'new' topics per day.

These are just suggestions that I think would help me keep up with whats going on around here. If I'm the only one in this situation, then tell me 'lock it up'. I'm just trying to assist improving this site as I see it.

Thanks again.

I kinda agree Blown. It is getting kinda ummm overwhelming just trying to keep up with all the new posts and topics.
I love this site, truly! But maybe a new way of organizing may be in order?

Yea Blown I like where your head is at. I dont comment much but I do check the site frequently. I think your suggestions would help. I also would like to say to everyone keep up the good work and keep those comments coming I noticed we have already made over 1,000 comments! Its just awesome to see this community alive and well Rock Chalk baby!

Agreed, @Blown. A handful of people have made a similar assessment and it's valid. The NodeBB guys liked the ideas people brought up about it, and I think if we can survive a while longer in the current format, either they or possibly I will try to make a change that makes it easier to sort by post date.

Another thought. I am still posting on "JAYHAWK LOUNGE" as it also has a ton of users- many the same users. Not near as many posts there but a different layout. I see positives from both and think both can help each other improve.

Once again, more than anything I really appreciate the expertise and effort of both sites. Let us know if you need $.

Thanks to both of you for rising to the occasion. I'd like to buy you a steak dinner if you're ever in Houston. RCJH

I agree that it's tough to follow the threads. I've been guilty of posting a new topic for each new basketball story daily... Not sure if this is a good practice to continue or not.

Opinions?

@bskeet-IMO your quality has been really good. Is important to get this thing off & running, so no one should take issue with quantity, unless there are ethical or plagiarism issues. I have seen absolutely none of that from any poster here since I've been reading-mind you I haven't read everything out here, but recent posts are highlighted & I look often, so as far as I can tell, everyone's been great. Also I am pleasantly surprised that some of the chronic LJW dissenters have not joined here to grind their axe as they have on the LJW site to those few of us that may still post there. Only thing that jumps out to me is some threads & posts can get repetitious, but that is to be expected, & is very common on blogs like cbs, espn, & foxsports. As time goes on, approxinfinity & other, as I respectfully refer to them as chip heads & some are my closest friends I might add, will be able to tweak the aspects/details of the site to create a more ergonomic experience by the users, and brother Blown & others have made some nice observations to move forward with. Some guys like he, drgnslayr, HEM & myself have posted on the old site frequently, only to be called out over & over for suggesting another board, so overall, I'm really thrilled we have the quality of a slayr, ralster, & approxinfinity creating as many thought provoking threads as they have. I do miss the oakvilles & jb's, but even without a couple of LJW's "Top Dog" posters, this site has made progress by leaps & bounds in the past 10 days, plus has kept a large circle of quality board rats together live & well. The later of which is extremely important to me, and many others will attest the same. These are just my objective thoughts, and at my age, that certainly is much more of a chore than a few years back. LOL

Dude!!!

Oct 29, 2013 01:24 PM #9

Yesterday and today I have been clicking on some of the posts listed as "unread" and when it sends me to that thread, sometime I see it but most times I'm not seeing that post - it seems to be the correct thread it just doesn't have any of the recent posts that were showing up under unread. (This is on my PC via Chrome)

I wanted to bring up the subject of archiving again. I think this will be important going forward to be able to gain new members.

For those of us who have been around since this was started, we've sort of grown with the site and understand how it works a little better. For somebody just coming on board, I'm sure it's overwhelming seeing the number of posts and not knowing where to begin. They certainly can't catch up with all the threads that are there presently.

I think we need to archive anything over one week old. Have it still be accessible but not really part of the front page. Just my opinion -but I think that's going to be important as we try to grow the site.

Oct 31, 2013 02:22 PM #11

I agree with Blown and JayDocMD the older threads need to be archived anything over 12 threads to a week old needs a separate place. The archived threads should still show up in in the unread section if there's activity which will help visibility of active discussions. Also that should help funnel people into the same threads to create more opportunity for quickly developing conversations.

Hard to believe I've read over 1200 posts on this site already.

Nov 09, 2013 04:25 PM #12

I have to agree with this too. The threads format is driving me crazy!! It is very difficult to keep up with.

  1. archiving needs to be done
  2. Also when reading from a mobile device (tablet/smart phone) you can not see what threads have been committed on if they are pinned. The unpinned threads will move up with a new comment. But the pinned threads stay in position and you cannot see the recently commented column when on a mobile device?
  3. What determines which threads get posted to the "interesting Threads" section on the home page? I think the list should be limited. It is so long now. Like every thread is interesting.

Anyway just some things that I see that could be changed for a better user experience.

Speaking of mobile devices, on my iPhone 5S the site just doesn't work.

  • Scroll down and newer posts just don't show up
  • Reply button does nothing
  • Hit the elevator icon, click on "Unread" and most of the time the elevator has to be closed manually.

On the plus side, doesn't ask for a Facebook account...

@parishawk I had an issue today where a long thread wouldn't show me the newest stuff on my android phone, even though I knew it had something new because it showed up in unread. To get around this I refreshed the thread and it loaded up everything ok. I guess there are some kinks. I'll also look at whether the server or its services need to be restarted, since it's been running non stop for quite a while now. Thanks for the heads up.

Nov 15, 2013 03:54 PM #15

Hey guys,

As approx said, there is definitely demand for auto-archiving of topics, either a "lock topic after x days", or an inactivity style "lock topic if no responses for x days". Probably both.

@parishawk -- NodeBB should work with iPhones properly, but we'll take a look at it to see if it's something we can fix :)

Nov 15, 2013 03:56 PM #16

testing a reply without a mention

Nov 15, 2013 04:10 PM #17

Like @parishawk I too have had the problem of not loading the newest post in long threads. It loads the first ten posts and that's all. It has happened on my wifi at home and on phone, 3G service. I figured it's because high traffic and slow internet.

Nov 15, 2013 04:25 PM #18

@Kip_McSmithers @parishawk Alright guys me too (not showing full thread). This will get my TLC tonight. Hopefully I can resolve.
