Thanks :)
@Crimsonorblue22 posted s schedule. I have to take my dad to get his hearing aid checked but I will see if I can find a complete TV schedule and post it latter today...
I don't know...his one dunk on Tuesday seems to indicate that he has his jumping skill back at full force.
Based on what he did in his one season, I am not particularly impressed with Chukwu and I believe Coleby has better potential. Chukwu would be a long term project that may or may not pay dividends in his third or fourth year. Not every tall African player ends up being an Olajuwon or even an Embiid and many if not most end up riding the pine. Here is a list of African player in the NCAA β, the great majority being 6'9' or taller and see how many do you recognize...
The bad thing is that if you don't finish in the top two in your group, the best you can finish is #9 even if you win the rest of the games...I believe this is where Northern Iowa finished.
Form the WUGSA site...
"There are four pools in the WUG with the top two teams after pool play qualifying for the eight-team medal bracket. The third and fourth teams in each pool will compete in an eight-team bracket with the highest finish being ninth in the 24-team field. The fifth and sixth pool finishers will also compete in and eight-team bracket as all 24 teams are guaranteed eight games for the event."
Durant is an East Coast dude and if he leaves OKC it will be for Washington, his home town.
Keep in mind that this is Kobe's last year and when he retires he frees up a ton of money...close to $25M.
I agree. I wrote that if he keep it up he might be headed for the NBA after the season...
The Cavs made a pact with the devil and now is time to pay up. TTBOMK, they have 7 unsigned players including LeBron, Love and Thompson and the only one they have re-signed is Mosgov.
The question is whether LeBron is an asset re-signing players or will they opt to go to another team where they don't have to put up with him? Looks like Love will go elsewhere, likely LA or Boston.
Wayne's world...excellent, excellent...
We are finally seeing the Selden we all hoped he would be...
Take a chill pill and a few minutes to learn how the forum software works. Like @KUSTEVE pointed out, click on the text in blue and the answer is there...and you are welcome.
Well...there is playing everyone and there is winning games. Most coaches like to compete with a rotation of 7-8 players; it will depend if Coach Self is trying to look at player combinations and try different things or if his competitive side will prevail and will do what he needs to do to win games...the team is representing the country after all and it deserves top effort and not just a practice junket for the players. I will guess that most players will play against the weaker competition and for the tougher games he will use a small rotation...but I could be wrong :(
No question Knicks fans were not pleased. The analysis of the draft I have read almost universally indicate that the the Knicks needed immediate help and not a long term prospect. Carmelo is not happy about it and feels betrayed by Phil Jackson. β
I did not say KU did anything wrong, but the programs is in many ways like a family and when one of the kids goes through hard times the entire family is affected. No question that having Cliff on the team would have helped, maybe not much but it would have helped some all the same. I did not say that Self should have played him either; KU went by the book and in many ways, it really did not have much of a choice
Now, don't you think that other programs will use Cliffs situation against KU when recruiting top prospects? I bet they will and they will mention how a top prospect went from being a OAD to not-drafted...fair or not, it will happen.
Yes, Cliff is 6'-8" and 200+ pounds but emotionally he is still an 18-19 years old kid and as such, naive and stupid; probably most of us were at that age. As a parent I would not like to see my kid go though something like what Cliff is going, regardless of whose fault it is...it is just not in my DNA to wish ill on anyone. Having some empathy for others is not a bad thing...just my personal view on the subject and I don't expect you or anyone else to agree with me or to see it my way; if you do, great, if you don't...that is OK too.
You might well be right. However and depending on how the contract is structured, the non-lotto player might able to opt out, if he is playing well, and sign a much larger contract...I am just guessing here...
Spot on. That is the curse of the OAD. UK fans now complain that it is hard to cheer for a team they barely know; by the time they get to know a player...he is gone.
It really depend on what Coach Self decides to do. If he gives all players lots of playing time like he did in the first game, then it should be similar to the first game. If he decides to settle on a 7-8 player rotation and give those players the bulk of the time, then KU should win by double digits.
Let's not forget that Cliff's actions hurt not only him but KU as well since it had to play out the season and go to the dance short handed.
Don't forget Ricky Rubio. When he is healthy he is one of the more exciting players in the League. If KG can guide the younger Wolve players, they could benefit greatly from his experience, he could be particularly good for Towns.
The Lakers will try hard to get either LaMarcus Aldridge or Kevin Love who would like to go back to LA.
I understand that Cliff's problems are of his own (and family) making but I can't help but feel sorry for him...once a Jayhawk, always a Jayhawk...
The fans were not happy either and booed loudly at the pick. Porzingis himself acknowledged that and indicated that he would like to change the boos into applause.
The Knicks need help now and Pozingis is at best a long term prospect; by the time he is ready to produce, assuming he is not yet another Euro bust, Carmelo will have likely retired.
I looked at the draft grading for all teams in various publication and the Knicks have a thumbs down or negative evaluation by just about all of them.
As far as what the payers you mentioned were doing?
JR Smith was awarded the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award for the 2013 season. He was the first Knick to win the award since John Starks, who did it in the 1996β97 season. He averaged a career high 18.1 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, 2.7 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game in 33.5 minutes per game during the 2012-2013 season. He played 80 games during the season.
Shumpert was having a decent season before being traded averaging 24 MPG and 10 PPG before getting injured.
One man's ceiling is another man's floor. I guess we see it differently and that is OK, this is what the Forum is for, express your thoughts and read what other members write and disagreement is just part of the process... :)
That is a pet peeve of mine as well. When my grand kids ask for something using "can I" as in "can I have some candy?" I always reply...I don't know, can you? and then they smile and say...may I have some candy?
I understand that the English Language is changing and it is impossible to stop the inevitable; however, I feel I should not help speed up the downward spiral.
I agree...however. picking Okafor at #3 was no brainer, you can't pass on that potential and worst case, you can trade him for some proven player or players that will help you now.
Shumpert started and JR Smith was the top bench player who played 35 MPG for the Cavaliers and helped them get to the NBA finals. Maybe getting rid of them was not such a good move considering that Shumpert had a relatively low cost contract.
Jay Bilas talked about Cliff several times throughout the evening and he thought he would be drafted near the top of the second round which as we all know did not happen. At the end of the broadcast he indicated that Cliff made some derogatory comments about KU that he personally did not like and thought that maybe NBA GMs did not either and it could have had a bearing in not picking him. I cannot think of a KU player expected to be selected that was completely ignored. A sad day for Cliff and a sad day for the KU basketball program as well.
His only hope now is to try to get into the Summer League and impress someone enough to give him a chance, otherwise it is the D-League or overseas, likely China...Europe is no longer taking American players the way they used to, they have local talent available now.
Yes, he inherited a marginal team made it worse; they went from 37-45 (.451) to 17-65 (.207) and worst record in the history of the Franchise and second worse record in the NBA.
Stephen Smith at ESPN does not think much of Phil Jackson either...
[link](
I agree. Hate to see a Jayhawk in that situation. Hopefully he can still be selected in the second round, secure a roster spot in the Summer League and have chance to impress a GM or two...
Not a lot of difference between .lottery pick #14 pick and #15. Link here... β
So predictable. This thread is deteriorating...I am out.
Pierce next stop will likely be San Diego where he is a known commodity to Coach Doc Rivers...
Good points. The 76ers had to draft Okafor and it was really a no brainer; now they will have to figure out what to do with all the bigs they have accumulated. I see a trade in the future; Embiid's slow recovery is not helping him, on the other hand the expectations will also be lower.
The Wolves will be greatly improved and if Rubio can stay healthy the entire season , they will be very good.
The Cavs don't seem to have learned from their previous trade with the Wolves...
Cliff sure has dropped a lot more than expected...he will end up being the poster child and cautionary tale for future players/prospects with NBA aspirations.
As a good friend of mine used to say...if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with the bull...
Nice try trying to change the subject. I agree that Phil Jackson was a great coach and a serviceable player...I did not say he wasn't, did not even mention him in that capacity, but when it comes to trades we are not talking about Phil Jackson Coach or player or boyfriend of team's owner daughter or player that got chased around the court by opposing player... we are talking about Phil Jackson - General Manager.
Why don't you cite Phil Jackson's record as GM with New York? Wait...I did and it sucks...
I am not sure where the story that Diallo can't score came from. At the McDonald's All America game he led all scorers and was named the MVP. At the Jordan Classic he was also the MVP and led the East with 26 point and 11 rebounds playing against competition that included the best high school players in the country.
IMHO, Alexander, and based on the hype, had a below average and cut-short season and even an average season by Diallo will be better than Alexander's. BTW, Diallo is not a Center and he plays PF, so I will guess that Coach Self will play Ellis and Diallo as PFs (with Ellis getting some time at the SF) and go with the two PF setup that is now prevalent in the NBA...since there are not that many true centers left.
"Irving is just one of many, many good back court players in the NBA."
Seriously? Do you actually follow the NBA?
ESPN ranked him the #23 overall player β and the #5 PG guard β. He used to be the #3 behind Chris Paul and Russell Westbrooke, but now Curry and Wall are ahead, because of Irving's injuries. Even with injuries he not only made the All-Star team this past season but was the game's MVP as well. At full strength he is likely top 3.
Kyrie Irving has averaged at least 18 points per game and 5 assists per game in each of his first three seasons. Only Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson, LeBron James, Grant Hill and Steve Francis have accomplished that feat.
With Irving healthy, the Cavs probably win the Title; with Love and Varejao healthy they probably sweep the Warriors.
BTW, Phil Jackson should be laughing at himself and the piss-poor team he assembled in New York that finished last in the weak Eastern Conference with a record even worse that the 76ers, and at 17-65 (.207), the worst in franchise history; the previous year before Jackson they finished 37-45 (.451).
Considering how auto correct works, it is amazing that we don't see more of the weird stuff it sometimes comes up with...
BTW, "stranded" or βdanglingβ preposition are now acceptable and no longer taboo.
Spoken like a true mom :) :) :)
LeBron and Wiggins do play the same postilion. Both are listed as a combination of SG and SF although, and as I have mentioned before, LeBron does play all positions.
Here is a link for your enjoyment... β
Sooooo... house slippers are now dress shoes? I guess in a world where underwear is outerwear it really should not be surprising... :(
So...what players would Wiggins be replacing in the Cavaliers roster?
Apples and oranges...
Jordan and Pippen played different positions, Jordan played SG and some PG and Pippen played mostly forward and some SG and his position was often referred as point forward, They not only played different positions but they complimented each other extremely well and with Rodman, they were the core of the Glory years Bulls team.
Now, LeBron and Wiggins are offensive minded players that basically play the same position, although it could be argued that since LeBron plays all 5 positions he plays the same position as everybody else in the team. LeBron and Wiggins do not have games that complement each other, they have games that overlap and would have created conflict and would have placed young Andrew Wiggins in an untenable situation No conspiracies in that transaction; the only stupid thing was not to secure LeBron and Love to contracts longer than one year...that part was truly wishful thinking (that they would re-up) and utterly dumb...although in all fairness, if Cleveland would have won the title, there is a good chance they both re-sign...after all victory has many parents and defeat is an orphan.
I read that. I posted at the time that it was crazy to sign him for the remaining year with no assurances that he would re-sign. I wonder it this will send a signal that it is difficult ot play with LeBron...
The Cavs have other un-signed players including LeBron, and it is possible that the team might completely disintegrate. So glad that Wiggins got away from that mad house.
Diallo + Bragg + Vick > Alexander + Oubre
Plus the rest of the team has an extra year of experience.
I agree, I have seen Porzingis projected as high #3...nuts!
Because of the FIBA basket interference rules, offensive rebound will be more important because they can result in a direct scores.
So far this is just preparation and as such it has mostly local interest; once the games are underway, I am sure they will in the national news. Last year Kentucky played in an International tournament (Bahamas), which they also had to subsidize, against the national teams of a couple of countries Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic) plus a team from France and I don't remember reading anything about the scrimmages they had preparing for the tournament, but once it got underway, we saw the summaries and box scores...
By the way, the box scores of all KU games are always available the the KU Athletic web site β; here is a link to that particular box score... β. BTW, Traylor had a solid game and I expect him to be a big contributor this coming season.
I could not find any info on Jack Harry leaving...
Maybe the question should be...have you seen any news about any of the other US teams that will be competing a the WUG? I have not; the KU BBall team probably has more info available than the rest of the teams combined.
JaRon was by far the better prospect but got too full of himself which cost him a place at KU and ended up crashing and burning big time after a short stint at UCLA. What a waste of God given talent. Kareem and Brandon did much better...maybe they learned from JaRon's mistakes.
This was not one of the fancy suites with a view of the court, just the one on the concourse right across the concessions; my corporate account card got us in.
