Announcing sucks. Earlier named some of the past bigs at KU and did not motion Withey
Wayne's World...excellent, excellent...:)
Yes, he is...
Plenty of free throws coming up...
Should have been a basket by Perry plus one instead the ball is inbounded from the side
I am glad to the USA on the front of the shirt. I will guess they were told the uniform was non-compliant and the name of the country needs to go in front.
Playground rules, no blood, no foul
Selden is playing super solid
I don't care how they call it as long as they call it the same for both sides. Brazil with hard fouls and not being called and out side getting a lot of ticky tack fouls.
Looks like the check cleared...the refs are letting Brazil get away with whatever they want.
Good morning fellow Jayhawk Fans,,,:)
Short of removing the hard drive from the Cable company DVR, there is no easy way to transfer the video from the DVR to a computer for posting and it is probably encrypted anyway and the cable company would have a fit. You can record with a camcorder placed in front of the TV but the ESPN content is probably copyrighted so YouTube would likely not allow posting it.
The WUG organization might be streaming the games and you can search for a live feed on the internet. Check for the web sites of TV stations of the country KU is playing and there is a good chance once of them has a live stream.
Agreed. Only die hard basketball fans even know about this event, so there really is not a lot of pressure. The main benefit is the opportunity to get some actual game practice and get a jump on the competition; the 24 second shot clock will help get the team prepared for the upcomimg season. If KU were to win, I am sure the AD will milk it for a while but otherwise no big deal.
Waaaaay too much information. This thread should have not been started in the fist place and needs to stop. I apologize for my contribution helping prolong it...:(
In today's environment, apparently it is a bigger achievement and you are a bigger hero going from "man to woman" than winning the Decathlon Gold Medal at the Olympics...but then, these are the same people that idolize the Kardashians for...frankly, I don't have a clue why.
That is the old format. The new format consist of 4 pools of 6 teams each; the top 2 advance to the top bracket and play for places 1-8. The other 16 teams played play in lower brackets 9-24. I will guess that the bottom 16 teams are in two pools that play for place 9-16 and 17-24.
2015 World University Games Pools
Pool A – Korea, Estonia, Germany, China, Angola, Mozambique
Pool B – Russia, Canada, Mexico, Mongolia, Sweden, Montenegro
Pool C – Australia, Lithuania, Finland, Japan, France, Chinese Taipei
Pool D – Serbia, Brazil, USA, Turkey, Chile, Switzerland
In fall faintness, here is a link to the article ↗. I will preface my comments by saying that I am a fan of all Jayhawk player in the NBA and as such, likely biased. Having said that, the article seems extremely biased against the twins. For example, in one paragraph he comments about T's that Bledsoe and Tucker got that lost them the game and some how he makes it seem like it was the twins fault. He mentions several other players that get lots of Ts and he admits that the refs have short fuse with Suns and yet he seems to think it is all the twins fault. I am not saying that the twins have not done their share of stupid things but I don't believe they are the bulk of the problems with the team.
Interesting that when LeBron completely emasculated his coach in the playoffs and mostly ignored him during the season many claimed he is a leader an alpha do but when Marcus react to being cussed out he is a trouble maker. Yes, LeBron and Marcus are at different levels but shouldn't they be judged by the same rule? Many, many other players yell back at their coaches and no one bats an eye.
Phoenix is known for having a" wine and cheese" fan crowd that is not particularly loud compared to other arenas...after being spoiled by AFH, no other arena gets louder, so maybe the comments about not having a home court advantage are indeed correct and the fans need to get off their buts and give the home team a real home advantage. This is just my opinion and in no way justifies any involvement in unlawful action they might or might not have participated.
On the other hand, they seem to play much better when they are in the same team...
The 9th place finish is deceiving. The top two teams for each bracket advance and play for places 1-8, the rest of the teams play for places 9-20. I believe NIU finished 9th which means they probably lost 2 game in the fist round and did not advance to the top bracket and went undefeated in the lower bracket. If I remember correctly each team plays 9 games so you can go 7-2 and finish 9th and you can have a much worse record and finish in the top 8, the key is making it out of your initial group in the top2 and you are guaranteed to finish in the top 8 ...makes sense?
Thomas Robinson signs 2 year contract with Nets...link here ↗.
Maybe Chinese universities take the name "university" seriously and concentrate in academics and sports are just extra-curricular activities...the way American universities used to be once upon a time...
It reminds me of going on vacation with the kids when they were young; by the time we got home I was so tired that I needed to take a vacation from my vacation...:(
Good fit for Paul, particularly withe Coach Rivers, knowing what he can do and actively wanting him in San Diego. Interesting that a player that played the majority of his career with one team will likely end up playing the last 3 with 3 different teams...which goes to show that the NBA is first and most of all a business.
On a related note, Love signed a 5 year deal with the Cavaliers, instead of signing a 1 year deal and waiting for thr new cap that will raise the cap considerably. Now, what happens if LeBron decides to jump ship? I don't think he will and if he re-ups with a long term contract, the Cavs will be a better version of Miami with big 3 and the team to beat for the foreseeable future.
On the Heard on ESPN they had a couple of interesting discussions about the Knicks and the Lakers. Apparently players do not want to go to New York and learn the Triangle since that system is no longer used by any other team and it is an anachronism in this day and age. The Knicks re now considered the worst franchise in the NBA and they could not even get Greg Monroe that signed with the Bucks. their top trade so far has been Aflalo...Aflalo? Are you kidding me?
LaMarcus Aldridge not impressed with the Lakers, particularly the analytic they use; I guess players are becoming more savvy about technology. The general opinion seems to be that the Lakers are no longer a prime destination and players like Durant can and do get as much exposure and endorsements from small markets such as OKC.
Yes, not much of a contest. Looks like Coach Self started with all the bench players to get their playing time out of the way and once the starters went in, they ran dominated. Look like their are playing a fast game and Coach Self is till trying to keep the game simple and emphasize defense. The other teams are going to be better than China.
A little more detail and short video...here ↗
Looks like a company in Seoul did have a mask for Bragg and it was sent to the team; he should be able to play in the next game, although and depending on ho the game is going, it might be wise to hold him a little longer.
Thanks for the link. TRob is the one player I would really like to see succeed and make it big in the NBA. I believe that every Jayhawk fan has an emotional investment as we were all affected by his personal situation.
There is practically no difference in the NBA anymore between 4s and 5s. Most of the players that we think of as Centers are really PFs. The is maybe a half a dozen true Centers left in the NBA. Some teams like GS proved that you can actually play for stretches of time without either, although there is really no other team that I can think that could pull it off like GS did.
I must be still missing something. This is what I found ↗ about KD, i.e. Kevin Durant and Oubre and it is very positive...
One more time...

Where were those comments? I must have missed them...:(
I did not get that from the video; he seems to have plenty of confidence which is a good thing...
It ain't bragging if you can do it.- Dizzy Dean
Looks like he was dizzy from the hit (???) that broke his nose:
Bragg, a 6-foot-9 forward from Cleveland, broke his nose on a trip down the court. He didn’t run back, putting his hands on his knees before falling backwards onto the court. He didn’t appear to lose consciousness. Trainers, including KU team doctor Larry Magee, gave Bragg water and put rags on his head and around his legs.
He lay on the court for about five minutes before he was able to sit upright. Ten minutes later, he was moved to a chair on the side of the court. He walked to the team bus after practice under his own power with cotton stuffing in his nose.
If you are going to wear one for while you should get a custom fitted mask; however, in a pinch, there are plenty of masks ↗that will do the job. I am sure thy can find one in South Korea or have one overnighted from here. I would not be surprised if they ca find a business there that can custom make one or at least make a mold, scan it in 3-D and digitally transmit the information to a manufacturer and have a finished mask in a couple of days. With the availability of inexpensive 3-D printers, 3-D scanners are now readily available and not very expensive and technology-wise, South Korea is pretty advanced.
Hopefully this link works better...

You musts have missed some of the more intense threads/discussions/posts about Coach Self..."dissing" is putting it very mildly...just my opinion.
I don't know...some summer pick up games can be pretty...shall we say "intense"...
Yes, that rule was lifted by it does not go into effect until the start of the new season. The game was not NCAA sanctioned so it would not apply anyway. I got some information about FIBA rules but as I mentioned, nothing conclusive so am not 100 %sure one way or the other. I do know that during warmup players try take it easy before the game and even in the NBA I just don't see dunking during warmups. I do know that some players like to dunk before/during practice warmups; LeBron is known for trying some extreme dunks during this time but not during game warmups.
Too many expectation placed on him by parents trying to live vicariously though him. Sometimes we lose track of how young these kids really are when they get to college and expect them to act like mature adults; the result is not always good.
Hopefully he can still realize his dream or maybe go into coaching; he seems to have likable personality which always is a big plus.
The USA/KU game was not a NCAA sanctioned game and it was played under FIBA rule,s which I believe do not allow dunking during warmups either...but I am not 100% on this. I know you can dunk in the NBA during warmups but I really have not seen any; no sense in wasting energy before the game.
I did not say there was any harm in discussing this or any issue. I simply pointed out that we are all taking about players with only bits of information available while the opinion of the only person with all the information on the players and the one who knows what goes on behind closed doors is ignored, dismissed or labeled as incompetent.
I certainly hope that Coach Self listens to his assistants but at the end of the day it is up to him to make the final decisions...the buck really stops with him.
If you recall, there was discussion on a previous thread that other coaches were staying to recruit while Snacks was traveling with the team, and the speculation was that he was still in the doghouse and not allowed top recruit
I understand that he does a number of high end, and I imagine very profitable, training seminars in the summer and probably does not want to give up the income. I imagine that she could easily find a replacement to train the athletes that stayed at home but it would be impossible to use replacement for the seminars.
I would have Thought that Andrea would be traveling with the team but I will guess that she makes a lot of money in the Summer as personal trainer. It would be nice if she could join the team for at least part of the tournament.
Here is the link ↗ to the TV schedule...
The person best qualified to judge how good Jamari is and how much he can contribute is Coach Self. His job and legacy depend on how well he judges players and wins games and so far he as done it better than just about any other coach in the business. We should trust his judgement since he has a lot more and better information on the players than all of us "Lazy Boy PGs" do.
Here is the official site and schedule ↗, please note the that South Korea is 14 hours ahead of Central Time:
- 11:50 PM Monday, in Central Time is
- 1:50 PM Tuesday, South Korea (GMT+9)
Here is a link ↗to the schedule for the USA/KU team in Central time.
Here is site where you can find all the African ↗ players by country, different names, same end result; most play at smaller schools and very few are good enough to compete at the higher levels. Let's check back after Coleby and Chukwu have completed their fist year after sitting and compare how they did, fair enough?
Dunking during warmups is illegal in college BBall and results in a technical foul. I believe that FIBA might have the same rule. Dunking takes a fair amount of energy; Dean Smith at UNC had a drill where layups counted more than dunks and 3-point shots as he believed it had the highest percentage of success with the least effort; Coach Roy Williams had talked about this on a few occasions.
One old school coach that believes helping young men turn into men and getting an education is more important than winning games. A class act that will be missed; college BBall could use more coaches like him.
Lots of rumors about Lopez going to LA. He played at Stanford so I am sure that would be preferred destination for him.
