If memory serves, his first term at KU Norm Roberts was known as an East Coast recruiter, especially New York. He brought Russell Robinson.
In my first job there was a programmer of Polish origin they called "Linda Alphabet".
Threads about Coach Consonants make me miss certain posters even more.
jaybate, where art thou?
@drgnslayr , this is a 3-pointer-and-1 post!
Thoughts you have provoked:
-
Will more players foul out of games? Could that be a reason why Coach Self is reticent to redshirt anyone?
-
Will important players be in foul trouble at the end of games? In that case, will it be harder to foul in last-minute catchup situations?
-
If the players have a hard enough time adjusting to the rules, will the rules adjust to the players? If so, could teams be required to change their defensive tactics, or even philosophy, in mid-season?
The crux of your post is that decisions can have unforeseen consequences, and every rule can be reverse-engineered. A post both fundamental and brilliant.
This is great stuff: a letter to the Wig from Keith Langford, then comments from other former players, including Danny and Tyshawn. Check it out!
+1 to drgnslayr. Gary et al. have done great jobs, Gary for many years. KUSports will still get my clicks for the articles, but not so much for the discussions.
@HighEliteMajor, great thread started by and starring you.
Just two thoughts on the other side of the ledger:
* What else could CS do then? Everybody left and he knew it beforehand, so he recruited everybody hard because he had to. He couldn't turn down Wiggins. Also, he did bring in some experience with Black.
* What else can CS do now? He's recruited so well and the recruits are looking so good that he may lose lots of players again this year. He has to recruit top talent to replace the top talent he's going to lose.
My point is that circumstances helped push us onto the OAD merry-go-round, and once there you can't jump off without great short-term risk.
@Gary_Bedore Welcome Gary!
I didn't know we allowed posters to use their real names here ;)
If Greene redshirts, that puts two years between White and him, which helps both get playing time. It also locks him into the program, since he would lose a year of eligibility if he transferred. But: does he want to wait 5 years before turning pro?
I think Frankamp would accept a redshirt more readily, since KU will likely be the high point of his basketball career.
I'd be tempted to roll the dice and keep them all handy for a big season right now.
I think we'll see a lot more rebounding from our 2 and 3 spots this year. That should help offset what Withey and Young brought.
In past years on defense, the guards were taught to funnel their man to the middle where Aldrich or Withey could block the shot. I wonder if that will remain the strategy this year?
I unbanned him because he cleaned up his posts.
OK, I didn't realize what went on because of the time zone difference.
I'll try to keep you from having extra work henceforth...
Alright, just had our first banned user cj0788...
Wait a minute, you meant "removed post" didn't you? You didn't really "ban" cj0788?
No big deal.
“I don’t know. I’ve always been kind of a subtle guy, not too extravagant, not too flamboyant, at the same time I always liked being a high-caliber person,” Black said. “That’s how Kansas is. It’s not on everybody’s radar. You have to respect Kansas. Kansas will always be one of the top teams in the country, no matter what. Especially with coach Self at the helm, because no matter what, they’ll be at the top. I like that. Coming to a program like this, there’s the humbleness, but also the expectancy of greatness. Put that together, and it’s perfect for me.”
Those are hilarious. I want to hear Embiid rap.
Moi aussi!
“And I would be the first to admit that probably, in a lot of press conferences over the time that I have been in coaching, indulging my own sense of humor at press conferences has not been greatly to my benefit.”

slayr stepping to the plate and hitting the grand slam for his new team.
The bench has cleared.
Another thing, my son did that on one of his early sites and the original site substituted porn pics. Son immediately torpedoed entire site.
Go upload some video!
"You can use markdown to display images inline."
yes, but you are just displaying someone else's image and making it appear as part of this site. It's the same as copying the content of a web page and pasting it here. There are copyright issues.
The only positive change is that Gary Bedore is now participating in the LJW threads.
I think Gary may be sincere: for years he has used Twitter to criticize anonymous posting, and now he consents to dialog with the onymous folks.
drgnslayr, let's not kill the goose that lays the golden eggs. Gary, Jesse and Matt deserve their salaries. LJW is owned by a real tuckus and it's not easy working for that guy.
Only indents one level
How much does it indent?
Testing comment indenting.
Well, what are you testing?
This is a temp test.
Is your reply really indented under the CY's comment?
Is this due to enforcement of the rules changes about handchecking and drawing charges?
"At least one thing stands out when evaluating Kansas University’s possible starting lineup of 5-foot-11 Naadir Tharpe, 6-5 Wayne Selden, 6-8 Andrew Wiggins, 6-8 Perry Ellis and 6-9 Tarik Black: it’s one, fairly tall unit — sure to provide matchup problems for opposing coaches."
Would you agree that the title should be of a standard format : yyyy-mm-dd source synopsis?
I am against yyyy-mm-dd source synopsis. The synopsis is what I'm interested in, and the posts are already sorted by date.
I would very much prefer synopsis source yyyy-mm-dd.
With that exception, total agreement.
konkeyDong, glad to see you here. One of my favorite posters, substantive and informative.
Have they posted anything official about not having to use facebook?
Yes they have: there is now an alternative with "manual verification", but you still have to use your real name.
Go to the bottom of each thread, under the "connect to Facebook" part and you will see it.
I'd be willing to mail you a little cash to help maintain the site...
Me too.
There were two problems with the new KUSports policy:
- No more anonymous posting
- Having to go through Facebook.
The second problem has disappeared, but not the first.
I prefer to remain anonymous, so I want this site to continue and will stick with it.
Also, I really like the Unread feature, which helps me find new comments much faster.
I thought I'd try to help out approx. and post a link to the latest article here. ↗
I noticed KUSports.com has indeed changed their verification policy: if you don't want to go through Facebook, you can have your login verified manually. You still have to show your real name; no more anonymous posting.
As much as I disliked the "Facebook only" policy, I have to respect the decision to refuse anonymous posting. I respect it, but I don't go along with it. I prefer to remain anonymous and frankly I "know" you guys better through your aliases than I would if you started using your real names.
If you're in, I"m in. No reply from jaybate.
