Is it too Soon? • Jul 24, 2014 01:21 PM

If you look at our schedule and think "can Cliff go one on one with their 5"? If that answer is yes you throw Frankcamp, Selden, Ellis, and Greene out on the 3 pt line and run some time off the clock. Pass to Selden who drives in off a hi ball screen (into an empty lane) and either takes it to the basket or dishes to Cliff when the help side D comes in for an easy dunk. When the D starts collapsing on this play then you dish to one of our sharp shooters and just enjoy the show!

Just one look HCBS can throw at an opposing team. This wouldn't work well on the defensive end though. If you need the D you would have to go with Mason, Selden, Oubre, Traylor, and Cliff.

Is it too Soon? • Jul 24, 2014 05:07 AM

@wrwlumpy You are right about CF IMO Self put our teams season in his hands because he didn't have a better option. He lead our U18 team to a gold as the starting pg and was the leading scorer on a team that featured this years top pg Tyus Jones and big man Jahlil Okafor. He also beat Ellis's Wichita scoring record. He won the 3 pt competition at the McDonald's all American game. I think that HCBS likes Masons toughness and his ability to get to the rim and his ability to get to the charity stripe. Both guards will share pg responsibilities until graduation because no one is going to willingly rs. They both have plenty to offer depending who is on the floor, spacing, etc. Not really a bad problem to have if you ask me? An outside threat and a slasher depending on who you have at the 2-3?

Is it too Soon? • Jul 22, 2014 02:28 PM

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned Traylor? He has received an honorable mention on a top 50 college basketball players list! I was really surprised to see him listed there with Selden tbh.

I am not going to say Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk will fit in this conversation as most improved but I have watched enough of him to come away thinking he is going to impact our team right away. He has played professionally for a year and has had to speed up his game to adjust. I think he should be the most college ready of the freshmen.

@drgnslayr one word advertising!

Mykhailiuk update • Jul 03, 2014 04:09 PM

@JayHawkFanToo at this point I would say at least 6'9" lol

Mykhailiuk update • Jul 03, 2014 02:46 PM

JayhawkSlant.com’s Shay Wildeboor recently caught up with incoming KU freshman Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, who tried to clarify a couple of things during the brief interview.

First, Mykhailiuk said he did not know for sure when he would report to campus but expected it would be sometime in mid-to-late August and definitely by the beginning of September. Mykhailiuk, who turned 17 on June 10, will spend the summer playing for the Ukrainian national team before coming to KU.

Second, the up-and-coming five-star wing player gave Wildeboor a clear picture of his actual frame, which has been debated since he signed with Kansas.

“I can definitely tell you that I’m 6-foot-8 in shoes and 6-foot-7 without shoes,” Mykhailiuk said.

Crazy thing is he measured 6'6" at the hoop summit! I would gather hes not done growing. Hope he reaches 6'10" and we have a Davis type player on our team for 2 years!

Scouting The Hoop Summit • Jul 01, 2014 02:40 PM

This is an interesting read. http://deanondraft.com/2014/06/30/scouting-the-hoop-summit-can-mudiay-go-1/ ↗ The piece was really about Emmanuel Mudiay but it was interesting that Oubre dominated him the way it reads.

This is the only real paragraph worth reading imo. "Oubre on the other hand showed awesome quicks as he seemingly cut off Mudiay’s drives at will. Literally every time Mudiay crossed paths with Oubre he had a bad time (7:08, 10:54, 22:35, 27:50, 52:38). Also Oubre’s block on Trey Lyles was pretty awesome (1:24:45). DraftExpress thinks Oubre has questionable defensive fundamentals, and I’m not yet ready to say that they are wrong but I’m starting to question their questions. Also from my mix tape studying Oubre might be the most explosive guy on the floor and he finished with 3 assists and 1 turnover, so he’s checking off all of the boxes for me. It’s possible that he’s like Wiggins but slightly less athletic and way better at basketball. Again, maybe just a good game/good matchup but my intrigue is growing."

He also said "If I had to guess who would end up #1 on my big board among the players in the game, my rankings go Towns > Okafor > Oubre > Johnson > Turner > Winslow > Mudiay > Alexander > Jones."

So wow Oubre observation first hand is pretty good!

Self Knows -- And That Is A Relief • Jul 01, 2014 03:37 AM

@HighEliteMajor If you go to KU's ESPN recruiting page it appears that our program is recruiting or has given scholarship offers to 18 five star recruits, 6 four star recruits, and 1 three star recruit. I think if 3/4ths of the scholarships given out by KU are to 5 star guys and 4 out of the top 5 guys are being recruited by KU then maybe you are reading too much into what Bill Self is saying? That being said if he happens to land 5 star Forward Ivan Rabb and Center Diamond Stone don't you believe they would start over Ellis, Lucas, and Mickelson next year? If your theory were accurate why would he recruit these guys if he has 3 senior forwards next year? Maybe going with bigs is bad because we could have depth issues next year if we dont get a big or 2? So lets say Jaylen Brown and Jalen Brunson the top PG and SG in next years class come to KU who starts? If your theory were true Naadir Tharpe and AW3 would still be on the team because it would be time for them to get significant minutes. Instead they opted to leave because their time and experience had been trumped by highly talented younger players.

I think If he says our team could be better next year its because we have 4 McDonald's all Americans starting and our point guards have a year under their belts. A freshman point guard that coach Self believes is one of the best in the class. Hunter Mickelson has a year in the system and 6 inches on his vertical and he is eligible. Maybe its that our 2 best shooters Green and Frankcamp have a year under their belts? Maybe its that European phenom that's somewhere between 6'6" and 6'8" can play the point and is quite possibly the best guard on our team? Maybe because Wayne Seldens knee is 100% and he has his spring back?

There has been so much positive media on KU this off season that there is reason to be happy. My point is just be happy with the hand we were delt because its the only one we have and trust in HCBS.

Self Knows -- And That Is A Relief • Jun 30, 2014 04:14 PM

@HighEliteMajor HCBS knows that seniority brings consistancy but it doesnt always pan out in March. Coach Cal (slime ball or not) has been to 3 out of the last 4 final fours. What kind of tallent does he have on his team? I think HCBS could do the same thing Cal is doing but they also had a first round NIT loss

Self Knows -- And That Is A Relief • Jun 30, 2014 04:09 PM

@globaljaybird I believe similar to Mclemore after learning the playbook and HCBS system his RS year Hunter Mickelson should have a big impact this year. I also read where he was left to do weights and training on his own without any direction. Hudy says he is a completely different player now and much more explosive!

Self Knows -- And That Is A Relief • Jun 30, 2014 03:34 PM

Our 2012-13 team was full of seniors. We still lost to TCU. We lost this year because our team wasn't 100%. Without Embiid we were not the same team and the chemistry was off balance. These things happen experianced or young and talented it doesnt matter come March our team should be just as prepaired as any.

Self Knows -- And That Is A Relief • Jun 30, 2014 02:46 AM

Regarding your statement that "The true revelation here is that coach Self knows “young” does not equal “better” under his leadership. He knows OADs are not going to make the best coach Self coached “team.” He recognizes that OADs aren't the panacea."

In 03-04 LeBron James would have started over Wayne Simien or anyone else on the team. I would be willing to bet the team would have done better had LeBron been on the team. You can start to panic again because HCBS is going to continue to recruit OAD's just like everyone else. I bet because of the university games we get another 1-2 OAD's for our 15-16 team! I sure hope we do any ways...

Top coach, top talent • Jun 24, 2014 01:17 AM

Sporting News named Wayne Selden the No. 5 shooting guard, Perry Ellis the No. 3 power forward, tabbed Cliff Alexander as the No. 3 center, Kelly Oubre the No. 9 small forward in the upcoming 2014-15 season. bleacherreport.com posted an article that Devonte Graham is a candidate for Freshman of the year honors representing the big 12.

Each of these guys have someone on the roster capable of taking their starting positions. A few of them will not even start in November. This year is going to be so awesome and then we get to watch Kansas compete for the USA July 2015! Maybe HCBS can hold a team USA mini camp during Dukes Countdown to Craziness event and lure some of dukes top recruits out of North Carolina (paybacks a Bi@#h)? Maybe Self can use the recruiting nugget to lure in another top 5 class? If he were to pull of the best recruiting class next year and medal KU would be the first DIV 1 basketball team to medal in the history of the games right? Even more history and pedigree to add to our beloved basketball program! Exciting times people!

KU basketball alumni game 2014 • Jun 12, 2014 05:38 PM

@HighEliteMajor I know that we cant take much from the alumni games played this summer. What I saw was that Wayne was hands down the best player on the floor. He was getting his team involved and was a part of what seemed like every successful basket on the scoring end. I believe he is the new voice of the 2014-2015 team. I think it was Matt Scott that said he looked like a pro playing against college kids. He looked comfortable, focused, and a lot like his high school highlight videos except playing against Mclemore and company. I would much rather have him leading the squad next year than some whiny baby pg with Self confidence issues. Out of game one that is my unprofessional observation and opinion.

KU basketball alumni game 2014 • Jun 12, 2014 01:46 AM

Did anyone check out any footage or clips on any of the action that took place today? I was surprised that Brannen Greene led all scorers during the scrimmage that took place today tbh. I have been watching the camp drills and post game interviews and have been very impressed on how every ones bulking up or slimming down to be at their best come October. It was good to hear that Mclemore played against Selden and that Selden outscored him during game 1. After watching some of the clips I was impressed with the little I saw. Anyone else see anything or have something to add?

Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk 5 star • Jun 08, 2014 04:15 PM

I would rather be talking about all of our new players and transfer possibilities rather than having to worry about our depth like on the 2012-2013 team. HCBS needs to capitalize on the increase in momentum, star power, and attention Wiggins and Embiid brought to the program. I still think Self will add a 7' center if one becomes available to this years recruiting coup. The fact is Bill Selfs system doesn't fire on all cylinders without one. Our title shot rests on recruiting a serviceable 7' transfer able to start this year. That's what we should be talking about here at KU buckets!

Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk 5 star • Jun 08, 2014 06:32 AM

@REHawk It is crucial that Bill Self plays Alexander, Oubre, and Selden so he can keep the 5 star talent carousal spinning. On the 05-06 and the 10-11 team HCBS had ten guys average over 10 minutes. He can keep most of the team happy but doesn't have to.

Due to the possible exit of Ellis, Alexander, Oubre, and Selden I would expect HCBS to sell PT to next years elite talent. Hopefully we sign 2-3 five star guys in October after Late Night. With the amount of transfers on the rise it wouldn't surprise anyone if someone jumped ship. I keep seeing every ones concerns about who might transfer but I gotta remind you that KU has had some guys use all 4 years of their eligibility and not everybody makes an NBA roster. Depending on who starts next year and who we pick up this summer will determine if someone transfers or not?

Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk 5 star • Jun 07, 2014 11:38 PM

Rivals.com is now listing Sviatoslav Mykhailiukas as a 5 start recruit which means they think he is a "franchise player who is in the elite of the elite. College superstar and upper end lottery pick after one year of college." this is straight from their web site. That also puts him in the top 25 HS prospects in the class of 2014. They haven't placed him in the rankings yet but 5 star is a good start. Rivals also ranks Graham number 36 in that class. Giving HCBS 4 guys in the top 100 at number 36 or better! That's almost just as good as last years recruiting class without a 7 footer! I will take it all day long.

Chalmers Decision • Jun 05, 2014 02:05 AM

@icthawkfan316 It was either last year or the year b4 so I bet he led the plus or minus stat your referancing back then. My typing and gramor get bad when i be drinkin lol. My give a damn get busted

Chalmers Decision • Jun 05, 2014 01:13 AM

I remember reading somewhere that out of the Heats roster they were at their worst when Chalmers was out of the game. That to me speaks volumes on what type of impact he has on this team. I would have thought when LBJ was out they would be at their worst? I looked for a link but couldnt find one but I know I read it...

Wayne's bounce is back after surgery. • Jun 04, 2014 02:09 AM

All but Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk will be on campus this week to work out and play pick up games for the rest of the summer. This is when we start seeing some action and hearing about the team. Last year Wiggins was supposed to play with Canada and ended up enrolling for summer classes so hopefully Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk will do the same? This time of year always gets me excited for next year!

Two Interesting Topics • May 29, 2014 12:18 PM

@KansasComet It's the end of May. There isnt much to talk about except a few transfers and additions. Tharpe was our weakest link going into next season and he would have been in the most important postiion. Not an ideal situation for HCBS or us the fans. I am sure Tharpe didnt just wake up and think he wanted to transfer. The fact is no one buys the fabricated official stories that we the fans are fed, so yeah there is speculation.

Open scholarship lottery • May 24, 2014 02:23 AM

I called the Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk race but any ideas on who might be next? I heard we are looking into a 7' transfer but I don't have a name yet? Expect some rumblings over the next week y'all.

Mason=RS • May 23, 2014 02:32 AM

@justanotherfan Toughness only gets you so far and the street fight guys terminology is rather funny. I get it but seriously there is such thing as a smart fighter. In boxing there are defensive fighters that aren't as fun to watch but they win rounds because they counter punch. Frankamp might not be the tough guy but he takes care of the ball better and counters with the 3 ball.

Mason=RS • May 22, 2014 01:56 AM

@REHawk I actually doubt he is any better than Mason. He could start for all I know but right now this is my November rotation. I might change my story after the alumni game in less than a month? Does anyone really know? Its just fun to guess and here everyone's reaction/rotation.

Mason=RS • May 22, 2014 01:45 AM

Wayne Selden can and will step up and use his 5 star talent to drive to the basket next year. Recruiting experts have written about his court vision since he was in hs go back and check out his mix tapes. He should be that guy on next years team. No need for 2 guys to drive and kick out? Sorry if your a fan of Frank Mason but the reality of things that will transpire this summer will send him to the end of the bench if he doesn't RS.

Conner Frankcamp takes care of the ball and can drain the 3 ball all day from NBA range. Frank Mason does not excel at either one of these things or should I say he cant hang with Conner at these things. I would think you could put Frankamp on the opposing teams weakest guy to offset his D.

Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk is or was 6'6" 191lbs when measured at the Nike summit and he is 16 so he could have grown an inch and add in his shoes and I can see 6'8" but who really cares? Like Wiggins I believe HCBS will tell him PT could be limited if his team ates know the playbook better than he does which would like Wiggins bring him to the states sooner than fall. Size and Height and ability to play all 3 guard positions should get this kid some PT. Sorry again Mason

These 3 are going to handle the ball and these are your 3 lead guards. I honestly believe that the longer than usual leash HCBS had last year has been retired. With the extremely deep back court we are fortunate enough to have the leash next year is going to be SHORT!

HCBS has said Brannen Greene is an NBAer and that he would be the premier guy on most teams. I can't see him getting less minutes than last year?

Kelly Oubre has said HCBS told him he was stepping in for Wiggins. He is a top 10 talent that wont sit if Self wants to sign another top wing next year.

This rounds out my rotation for the 1-3 and yes I am a fan of Mason but my gut tells me he will be the 1st guard out garnering trash minutes. He had trouble with grades or attendance last year and if you look at his Twitter his maturity is not that of one I would think leads this team next year. Self will utilize Mason's lack of maturity and poor decision making (on and off the court) against him if he doesn't RS. I know people will argue with me about this but this is just my opinion and you don't have to agree. Mason is next Aprils White/Tharpe guys. Casualty of a deep deep bench.

@konkeyDong According to the insiders Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk's advisors are encouraging him to go to KU. That is on the Shiver and the UVA 247 insider boards.

Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk is 16 years old and 6'6". If like Anthony Davis he grows 4 more inches over the course of the next year what position does HCBS play him if he were to sign? With handles like he has he would be very similar to Davis and get drafted high lotto and be good representation for KU. Since the other post turned into a completely different topic lets keep this one about Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and I am going to re post my research on this kid.

I took the liberty of looking over and reviewing the info I could find on Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and what I found proved that he belongs in the discussion for a #1 ranking in the class of 2014 (as long as we are still ranking kids based off of potential).

The only real knock on this kid was that he is young and would have trouble guarding older guys in college at the D1 level. False statement and anyone who has taken time to review the team he plays for would know that he has played for the SK Cherkasy Monkeys (Ukraine-Superleague) during the 2013-2014 season. He has been playing with and against guys of all ages mostly college graduates/NBA bench players like Dajuan Summers that was drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 2009 and Jason Washburn a graduate from Utah that made an impact on the schools program but didn't make an NBA roster. There are guys as old as 35 on these teams he is playing against so that myth is busted.

Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk would be a huge get for HCBS and all of the talk about Self recruiting a guard that is better than any guard on the roster is probably not far off base. I think Self and his coaching staff knows that this kid would be one of the biggest additions to the roster this year if we can nab him. Playing with and against veteran NBA players and college graduates has probably enhanced his game more than any High school graduate we could get our hands on. I believe this kid is a game changer for us and I personally hope we get him! He could very well be the lead guard or future forward HCBS is looking for.

Who is Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk? • May 15, 2014 08:32 PM

@HighEliteMajor I think that between Frankamp and Mason one of them have to RS. My guess is its Mason and only because he was the least recruited guy on the roster and the least likely flight risk. Our newest PG Deveonte Graham has not garnered any starting minutes and could foreseeably only get trash minutes. My guess is Frankamp, Greene, and Oubre will share the majority of minutes. Totally hypothetical though but if you had to RS a guy wouldn't you RS the guy that didn't have any other major programs after them? If KU were a Yacht then you don't jump ship for a tug boat do you?

OAD>Seniority • May 12, 2014 12:12 PM

@ralster One things for sure, imagine being recruited over by a 2AD? Expect a few more transfers if the NBA makes the change.

OAD>Seniority • May 11, 2014 11:08 PM

@HighEliteMajor You also have to admit UK has been in a better position than we have to win another one since 2012. I know you are not a fan of the OAD situation but seriously UK has been ranked pre season top 4 nearly every year (reciently) and they have had more success than most. I admit I absolutely hate UK and their slime bag coach but if we don't start competing with him the off season we are going to play second fiddle for a long time (along with every other program). Cal has already made UK the popular choice with the youth of our country and even though it sickens me he is going to win alot more than any other program if he continues. Every other blue blood is falling further and further behind the longer they wait to get on board. I wonder if Self can get Kim Kardashian to come sit with our recruits for late night since Cal already has Beyonce? lol

OAD>Seniority • May 11, 2014 10:56 PM

@HighEliteMajor I don't think Bill Self is trying to recruit OAD's only. I think he is just trying to land the top 25% just like UK and hoping like hell they return for another year or 2. There is a good chance Alexander and Oubre stay for another year. If he lands 2 more 5 star guys in the right positions we are in really good shape to put the hurt on teams come March.

OAD>Seniority • May 11, 2014 06:40 PM

@tundrahok I'm torn on this because most of us have watched players develop and marveled at their improvement. We have gotten to know them and watch them grow on and off the court. Now on the other hand UK is recruiting the top guys year in and year out and is in line to make another national championship appearance. If HCBS doesn't jump on board then someone else will, then we are on the outside looking in. So I guess if our ultimate goal is to win national championship's then we gotta make a change. Like it or not its looking like OAD's trump seniority and Bill Self is being forced to adapt his recruiting techniques to win games in March.

OAD>Seniority • May 11, 2014 05:06 PM

I am a huge Bill Self supporter and like it or not his recent recruiting tactics are shaping up to be the "golden ticket". Weather you support the OAD era or prefer the more experienced teams the proof is in the pudding. The OAD's are winning in March. For example out of the Blue Bloods you have Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, UCLA, and Indiana. Since 2010 Kentucky has 3 Final Fours: 2011, 2012, 2014 which is equal to all of the other schools listed here combined.

Kelly Oubre was the first recruit to shed some light on Self changing his recruiting tactics when he said during an interview that HCBS had told him he could step in and play right away because Wiggins was leaving for the NBA after this year. That in its self goes against what HCBS has said in the past. I think Tharpe, and Whites departure signals to elite talent that Self is ready to play the OAD game and seniority is no longer going to trump talent at KU. We have 2 scholarship's available at the moment and I believe Self is getting ready to land some more elite talent. My guess is he is going to tell Stephen Zimmerman and P.J. Dozier that the starting position is theirs for the taking.

Buckle up Jayhawks because the transfers have just begun and I believe HCBS is aiming to dethrone Calipari as the nations best recruiter.

Andrew White to Transfer • May 09, 2014 04:11 AM

@globaljaybird In regards to Landon Lucas, he would be a Junior this year if he didn't use his RS already. He could actually graduate next summer and have 2 years of eligibility left to play at another school right?

Andrew White to Transfer • May 09, 2014 02:24 AM

We all saw the writing on the wall. Only problem I have with this is its going to keep four star recruits from committing to KU if this kind of thing starts to be a trend. I completely understand that Self will have to play (start) these five star kids to keep them coming to KU but at what cost?

When National Championships Are Won • May 08, 2014 01:07 AM

@ralster "Hoping for a better '14-15 season." The Media is saying we are in for another really tough Non conference schedule again lol. I actually think 2 years of this type of scheduling is going to benefit our guys. Learning how to win close games is what separates the men from the boys. Our guys need to work on becoming closers by March so we can take care of business.

When National Championships Are Won • May 07, 2014 11:21 PM

@ralster You can call the radio show and prove that you were right to your self but realize you should have asked a better question if you actually got a hold of him. I do enjoy your posts along with most other posters on this site. I am just rousing you a bit so please calm down! I don't want any bad blood on this site I really like it here!

When National Championships Are Won • May 07, 2014 06:15 PM

@ralster So what you are saying is you read a book and attended a camp 6 years ago. I will no longer challenge your infinite wisdom again. And please tell me why anyone would sift through all of your posts to figure out the "Jacque Vaughn yearning" rant you were on that no one on this thread had posted about?

When National Championships Are Won • May 07, 2014 02:23 AM

@ralster What exactly is HCBS trying to do in your mind is the real question? I don't follow the "Jacque Vaughn yearning" quote but ok. Self and company have recruited and whiffed on a number of true PG's over the last 10 years so he has actually been forced to use combo guards. I am sure he would have loved to have Smart or some other high quality PG running our offence for the last 10 years. He has to use the recruiting pieces he actually inks so if he has to use 2-3 combo guards to run the point then that's how he rolls. Point is our combo guards have been just as good if not better than the PG's available in the sub ESPN top 100's that would still be available after we have held out for that ESPN number one PG in the country all year.

Open scholarship lottery • May 07, 2014 12:58 AM

@VailHawk yes its still early. It just means until this kid announces we will not have a Milton Doyle or any other name pop up anywhere about other possibilities. I think Self and company are holding out until after this kid makes a decision.

Open scholarship lottery • May 07, 2014 12:38 AM

@HighEliteMajor as I stated above the remaining scholarship will go to Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk if he decides to go the college rout. During the 2014 Bill Self Fantasy Camp held this past weekend Coach Self was talking to some of the participant's showing how they break down game film defensively, then opened it up for questions. The last remaining scholarship question came up and he said something to the effect of being in good position on a foreign kid who was better than any other wing on the roster and would have to stay 2 years. Did not mention his name specifically." Mykhailiuk is deciding on whether to come to college or stay in Europe. He says he'll make this decision by May 21. If he does come to college, it would be for this upcoming season as it appears he's already fulfilled the academic requirements to play NCAA basketball. He turns 17 in June. One of the participants was no more than 5 or 6 feet away when he said it. He turned to the guy sitting beside him and gave one another a surprised look. This all coming from another board (The Shiver).

Money ball (basketball version) • May 06, 2014 04:22 AM

Speaking of Moneyball what would happen if College coaches started emphasizing shot %, and signature quality's per position while recruiting instead of ESPN top 100 and recruiting analysts? How could one go wrong if you recruited the best lights out shooter at each position? Throw away the athletic or fast twitch muscles, how high one can jump, wingspan, the ESPN rankings, ceiling, and go strictly with scoring by position with some height taken into consideration (by position). Considering how much college athletes improve over the coarse of 4 years as seniors could that be the Key to winning titles every year?

Base off of the data I have at hand (ESPN) I selected 2 Senior guards that heaved up 200 3pt attempts and had the best shot %'s. Sean Armand a 6'4" G from Iona who scored 17.5 ppg with 4.1 ast. Langston Galloway a 6'2" G from Saint Joseph's Hawks who scored 17.7 ppg 1.6 ast.

For the Senior PG lets say you go with a guy that can feed your 2 and 3 guards. I went with Jason Brickman a senior from LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds who averaged 10 ast per game and 11.3 ppg with one of the best shot % out of the senior point guards. High assist rate taken into account.

For our PF we would be talking about someone who could play 30 minutes per game and would have to be 6'9 or taller, a senior with a great shot%, rebounding ability taken into consideration. Ryan Watkins played for Boisy State scores 11.9 ppg and 10.8 rpg with a high shot %.

For our center we would be talking about someone who could play 30 minutes per game as well and would have to be 6'11 or taller, a senior with a great shot%, and rebounding ability taken into consideration. Shayne Whittington from western Michigan is our guy with 16.1 ppg and 8.9 rpg with a good shot %.

I suppose I took a little more than shot % into account but basically I took seniors that had the right quality's at each position with close to the highest shot % with the height to go up against any DIV1 player. The outcome would have been a NCAA title run if you ask me. These 5 would have murdered everyone in their path. I am pretty sure that these guys were over looked and under recruited. ESPN rankings whiffed on these guys. And HCBS could have signed them all...

Speaking of Moneyball what would happen if College coaches started recruited based off of shot % and % of made free throws (I suppose you would have to guage compitition)? How could one go wrong if you recruit the best shot % at each position? @Wishawk I believe you can find some on 247 sports.

@Wishawk Yeah Conner is not as good of a facilitator as some of the other examples but he is a scoring PG. He played and garnered more minutes than Tyus Jones on the 2012 U17 Olympic team. He also lead in scoring with an absolutely loaded U17 team. Tyus only lead on the assist line but Conner absolutely dominated! I mean moneyball pointed out the secret to winning games is getting on base and scoring. Basketball is the same way and I believe the NBA is where that point is driven home. Facilitating others is good but scoring wins games. Self Likes D and his big men but look at Fred Hoiberg and the success he is having with his offence. He made it further than us in the NCAA Tourney this season. Conner is a slower pace PG but a smart one that makes fewer mistakes and is deadly from 3 once he settles in! Any ways I could go on for hours but I wont lol.

@Wishawk So whats your analysis on our new guys? How do these numbers compair to their HS days? Is there any way we can forecast what to expect from our newcomer Graham or sophomores Mason or Frankamp? You could make a new board with this analysis. Anyone could start a new board with the stats... Would be interesting to know?
