Hopefully Thompson starts today.

He is starting over Jalen.

Nov 27, 2020 06:49 PM #5

After yesterday's piss poor performance, big Dave is going to come out so aggressive today; however, since he has the coordination of a 3 year old, he'll be in foul trouble early and maybe get 7 minutes in the first half. And foul out in 15 minutes overall. He's a trainwreck. I'd rather have mitch start the 5

Nov 27, 2020 06:50 PM #6

Mitch is terrible.

Nov 27, 2020 06:51 PM #7

@BShark so is McCormick.

Nov 27, 2020 06:51 PM #8

Hmmm thats interesting. The game that is being played before us on FX 1 isn't bring showed on Television because of Health Conditions -- they are playing the game but not televising - -hmmm

Nov 27, 2020 06:52 PM #9

Mitch is worse though. The only thing he is better at is help side blocking (hard to do as the only big) and maybe straight up post defense but both are terrible at it. Hopefully some of the guys we are bringing in next year can improve it.

Nov 27, 2020 06:53 PM #10

The big issue with Mitch is he isn't a threat to do much of anything offensively. Dave at least does have a few things he does well, but Gonzaga scouted him well and took it away. Dave will have to get better at passing out as well as not having the ball swiped from him.

I dont agree with playing Mitch out there but I get the frustration with Dave. Just for some perspective we were pretty hard on Devon and others after game 1 last year against Duke even with the exhibition games and he turned it around quickly after that. Its going to take some time for Dave to settle down but I'm certainly not expecting anything drastic in his play. I happen to think he's just limited defensively

Nov 27, 2020 06:55 PM #12

Jalen was our best 5 against Gonzaga somehow.

This match-up today is a lot more favorable for Dave. He will have good and bad games, hopefully improving as he plays.

Nov 27, 2020 06:55 PM #13

Dave needs to get a lot better at passing out the post. When he gets the deep ball, he's looking at his feet. He can't see the double- or triple-team coming, so he doesn't pass out and loses the ball a lot when he puts it on the floor. He needs to stop looking at his feet.

Nov 27, 2020 06:56 PM #14

@BeddieKU23 Dave is a smidge above Dedric defensively imo, heinous, lol.

He's a black hole in the post. Doke was like that early in his career too. Even when Dave passed it out, it wasn't pretty. Hope he improves

Nov 27, 2020 06:57 PM #16

Shot blocking and defensive rotations is what mitch brings on the defensive side. Knowing the plays and not setting moving screens on offense is what he brings there. Dave is a turnover waiting to happen or a spin over his left shoulder to brick a fade away jumper

Nov 27, 2020 06:58 PM #17

Love that take from Bryce even if he missed. Stay aggressive.

Nov 27, 2020 06:58 PM #18

Ochai wtf

Nov 27, 2020 06:58 PM #19

Plays like that from ochai drive me mad

Nov 27, 2020 06:58 PM #20

Shooting at a brick cylinder from 2 feet dave?

Nov 27, 2020 06:59 PM #21

We are fortunate to have Marcus.

Nov 27, 2020 06:59 PM #22

WOW BRAUN REBOUND

Nov 27, 2020 07:00 PM #23

Great first effort on D but you gotta rebound...

Nov 27, 2020 07:00 PM #24

ATTABOY CB

Nov 27, 2020 07:00 PM #25

Jesus defense

Nov 27, 2020 07:00 PM #26

Well then, NBA threes I see

Nov 27, 2020 07:01 PM #27

No effort at all

Nov 27, 2020 07:01 PM #28

I see they run the CHUCK offense.

Nov 27, 2020 07:01 PM #29

Dave. Have you ever dunked the ball?

I wish mccormick could learn how to dunk

Nov 27, 2020 07:02 PM #32

Agbaji stroke much improved

Nov 27, 2020 07:03 PM #33

The defense is so bad. Like historical bad

This game is stupid tbh

Nov 27, 2020 07:04 PM #37

UPS delivers

Nov 27, 2020 07:04 PM #38

This is the worst defense I've ever seen

Nov 27, 2020 07:04 PM #39

Well we can't get much worse I guess.

Nov 27, 2020 07:04 PM #40

The rebounding is sooooo bad.

Nov 27, 2020 07:05 PM #41

@Bosthawk said in St Joes Game Thread:

Not his game unfortunately

Nov 27, 2020 07:05 PM #42

Basically just no effort to rebound.

Nov 27, 2020 07:05 PM #43

Wilson has zero idea what he's doing on defense. St Joe's is shooting lights out right now. I'm not worried about this game...but this defense is the worst group of kids I've ever seen in a KU uniform

Nov 27, 2020 07:05 PM #44

Biggus Davus looks to me like a more athletic Landon Lucas. He still has a bull in a China shop playing style

Nov 27, 2020 07:06 PM #45

Dave did have a successful pass out the post for an CB layup. Baby step i guess

Nov 27, 2020 07:06 PM #46

@Bosthawk Landen was smarter and tougher.

Nov 27, 2020 07:06 PM #47

@Bosthawk it looks like he's just doing jumping jacks whenever his guy gets the ball

Nov 27, 2020 07:07 PM #48

Who is Big Hair

Nov 27, 2020 07:07 PM #49

Agbaji. Never handle the ball again

Nov 27, 2020 07:07 PM #50

Late to the game, delighted with Jaylen insertion.

Nov 27, 2020 07:07 PM #51

Keep playing Wilson. Maybe try Tristan too.

Nov 27, 2020 07:08 PM #52

Oof Ochai

Nov 27, 2020 07:08 PM #53

SJU lost to Auburn, which just fell to the Zags by 23. Shouldn't we be able to handle these guys???

Nov 27, 2020 07:08 PM #54

@BeddieKU23 said in St Joes Game Thread:

I would be okay with this.

Nov 27, 2020 07:08 PM #55

We've got to take care of those TOs..

Nov 27, 2020 07:08 PM #56

That's TGF? My first look at him.

Oh boy

Nov 27, 2020 07:10 PM #62

3 missed layups

Nov 27, 2020 07:10 PM #63

Nov 27, 2020 07:10 PM #65

Lay-up practice on Monday.

Nov 27, 2020 07:10 PM #66

Seem seem to remember Garrett slipping a few times last year… He always has already slipped and fell in the last two games.

Nov 27, 2020 07:10 PM #67

The reality is this isn't a good team.

Nov 27, 2020 07:10 PM #68

These floors are ice

Nov 27, 2020 07:11 PM #69

I like how Jaylen handles ball, though. He's very active. He can be a play maker, too.

Nov 27, 2020 07:11 PM #72

First dunk!

Nov 27, 2020 07:11 PM #73

OK TGF might have his wits about him

Nov 27, 2020 07:12 PM #74

Beautiful pass by wilson

Nov 27, 2020 07:12 PM #75

Tyon is a gamer, very athletic. But will have lapses.

Nov 27, 2020 07:12 PM #76

If you dunk the ball, you don't have to attempt a lay-up. Points to brain

Nov 27, 2020 07:12 PM #77

Rock Chalk. It's early on in HCBS figuring out how to build the best 5.

Nov 27, 2020 07:12 PM #78

Dumb foul by bryce. Freshman mistake

Nov 27, 2020 07:13 PM #79

I'm happy that Perry is back on the team (Wilson)

Nov 27, 2020 07:13 PM #80

Grant foster with the first dunk of the year. Never would have guessed that...nor did I think it would be game 2 before I saw the first one

Was benched in the Zags game after a couple really bad plays on D. If he puts it all together he is a pro.

No hand in the face by enaruna. Sit down

Nov 27, 2020 07:16 PM #97

We just do not get back and set on defense...

Nov 27, 2020 07:17 PM #101

How did we miss so many layups and still shoot 50% in game 1

Nov 27, 2020 07:18 PM #102

Yikes..

Nov 27, 2020 07:18 PM #103

Wow, this is some fugly s***......

Nov 27, 2020 07:19 PM #104

@approxinfinity 45% from 3s.

Nov 27, 2020 07:19 PM #105

This is really bad

Nov 27, 2020 07:19 PM #106

I uhhhhh....think this season should be canceled for covid. This is hard to warch

Nov 27, 2020 07:19 PM #107

We don’t have a PG or a starting caliber C.

Nov 27, 2020 07:20 PM #108

The roster is talented, just poorly constructed

Nov 27, 2020 07:20 PM #109

We don't have a #BIFM

Nov 27, 2020 07:20 PM #110

We have braun and garrett....thats it

Nov 27, 2020 07:20 PM #111

8 - 1 on TOs...

Nov 27, 2020 07:20 PM #112

There is no reason to play Dave

Nov 27, 2020 07:21 PM #113

I think we will figure out ball handling duties. I like Braun and Agbaji as secondary and tertiary

Nov 27, 2020 07:21 PM #114

Braun is the only player I’m not disappointed in so far

Nov 27, 2020 07:21 PM #115

We have no identity on offense or defense. Everyone is looking at someone else and expecting them to do something.

Nov 27, 2020 07:22 PM #116

Wow, CB is good today.

Nov 27, 2020 07:22 PM #117

handling from top to bottom is a strength of the team. Just no exceptional handler.

Nov 27, 2020 07:22 PM #118

Samwise trying to kill Dave there.

Nov 27, 2020 07:22 PM #119

Switching Dave to their best player is Bad bad coaching

Nov 27, 2020 07:23 PM #120

2 nice shots from Braun just closed the gap but the play overall leaves a lot to be desired

Nov 27, 2020 07:24 PM #125

Self is probably telling garrett right now he needs to drive

Nov 27, 2020 07:24 PM #126

@BShark can't thumb this up enough.

Nov 27, 2020 07:24 PM #127

CB is doing everything today: steal, 3s, block.

Nov 27, 2020 07:24 PM #128

Garrett needs to take more control for sure

Nov 27, 2020 07:25 PM #129

The film of his defense from the first half will not be fun for the coaches.. I can see why he's the last wing out there in rotations

@BeddieKU23 It looks as if his long legs prevent him from sliding fast, maybe?

pretty easy to get some rebounds when they let those 3's fly like they are

I'm saying through two games he has been the best player in both, and it hasn't been super close. Remarkable improvement. The Zags game turned when he got his bogus 4th foul.

Nov 27, 2020 09:23 PM #519

Braun with 30 is big time. Hopefully he can score like that against better competition.

Agbaji has been very consistent so far. Nice to see out of him.

The guys I don't think mesh with this team are Enaruna, Lightfoot, McCormack and TGF. We need at least one of them to figure it out defensively because they are all liabilities on that side of the court.

Nov 27, 2020 09:25 PM #520

Nov 27, 2020 09:26 PM #521

I will add Jalen Wilson has a skill set that will keep him on the floor. Really bouncy around the rim but can't dunk. Weird combo to have. Shooting needs to improve and the bunnies. But he gives max effort out there. Defense is still a work in progress too

@BeddieKU23 he had a nice move yesterday where he dribbled through two defenders and was able to maintain control and get a nice shot off. His x axis quickness doesn't seem connected to his Y axis hops.

The guys I don't think mesh with this team are Enaruna, Lightfoot, McCormack and TGF. We need at least one of them to figure it out defensively because they are all liabilities on that side of the court.

We need Dave to up his hoops IQ, that can be hard.

@BeddieKU23 he had a nice move yesterday where he dribbled through two defenders and was able to maintain control and get a nice shot off. His x axis quickness doesn't seem connected to his Y axis hops.

Who had this play?

Nov 27, 2020 10:54 PM #526

I think Wilson. I still think enaruna will get better

I'd regulate Dave to first front court player off the bench. He can't start against small teams and really against good teams until he actually proves his coach's words are not just words..

Start Garrett, Harris, Braun, Agbaji and Wilson. That 5 gives us the best defense and passing lineups

Bring in Bryce and Dave as main backups.

Sprinkle in Tristan and TGF as the game goes.

Regulate Mitch to emergency time.

Wouldn't mind seeing what Muscadin can do for rim protection, rim running as well. His limited seconds have shown some singular skills that this team needs.

Nov 27, 2020 11:02 PM #528

@BeddieKU23 Wilson.

Nov 27, 2020 11:30 PM #529

So, a further thought about Dave (and I would love to see his +-). In 33 minutes in 2 games, he has 16 points and 9 rebounds. Doesn't seem too bad. But that's the best that can be said. VERY inefficient 16 points - 33% from the field (less than half Doke's %). ZERO blocks. 7 turnovers. The fact is that the only thing he does reasonably well is shoot FTs. Notwithstanding his size, he doesn't provide any real rim protection or interior presence. His footwork is poor as is his positioning. He is not an effective or efficient scorer. He doesn't handle passes well and doesn't pass well out of the paint. He works hard and puts in the effort, but he isn't a starter quality at a top level program. He simply doesn't make us a better team when he is on the floor - arguably the opposite. While he may be able to be reasonably effective against some teams, he is a liability against quality bigs - Timme owned him. Based on a limited sample set of two games, our best line-up most nights is going to be 5 guards/wings....

Nov 28, 2020 12:10 AM #530

We are going to need him to get better. I've never been a big dave fan-fouls! He's been better there, and he's got a jumper. I hope he and tyon get better, we will need them. I love 5 guards, just outrun them. But in a half court, ahh not so sure. We do have a lot of options and some decent shooters. Good to see Harris👀! Dave's a good guy, I want him to succeed

Nov 28, 2020 01:13 AM #531

If he was even as good at defense as Perry or Landen I could live with the rest. He hurt his knee in the first half which is apparently why he came out worse in the 2nd half and ultimately didn't play most of it.

Tyon is hurt as well, but we already knew that. It was very apparent unfortunately, you could tell just by watching.

Nov 28, 2020 02:12 AM #532

You know, I'm calling it, this team is going to be struggle city this year - both ends of the court. Hope I'm wrong.

Thanks he has been impressive so far. Improved athleticism and he has that effort in him that you don't see often from guys who missed a year, he's got the effort of an upperclassmen. I have always been high on him even as the debate about him coming here was contentious on what position he'd play or role he'd carve out. I think what was missed was that for his size he had a lot of high level skills that fit in today's game. Excited to see how he progresses

Nov 28, 2020 02:23 AM #534

If Harris plays like he did tonight or anywhere close this team will not have issues scoring the ball. When him, Garrett, Ochai, Braun and Wilson are on the floor that is an elite passing/driving/shooting attack

Nov 28, 2020 02:23 AM #535

Wilson needs to start over Dave, who is a major problem. He is always chasing the game. Drive and or kick it out and shoot, go small.

Nov 28, 2020 02:35 AM #536

@DCHawker

Its a harsh reality and I hope he improves. He has to play better and if he doesn't it will be a shame to see. I've been hard enough on him so for now I'll be watching for positives from him instead of harping on all of his weaknesses

Nov 28, 2020 02:40 AM #537

@Kcmatt7

Excellent point. If Harris can back up today's play against Kentucky Self will have no choice but to play him heavily going forward. That kind of defense and unselfish play is hard to find.

I always think back to Self saying he would have played on last years team if he was eligible. Sometimes that kind of talk can be hard to believe but after today you get the feeling he wasn't lying

Definitely want to see him do it against teams like Kentucky. St Joes was tired and let's face it a less talented team. It was exciting to see him on the court making such an impact but it begs to be seen if he can do those same things against bigger and more talented players

Nov 28, 2020 12:20 PM #540

I like how the team seemed to mesh and flow better with Harris having primary ballhandling duties and Dave being on the bench.

Nov 28, 2020 05:19 PM #541

I finally had time to watch the game this morning. A few things I picked up were

Marcus was fair at point other than he was trying to hard to get others involved instead of taking what was available. He needs to play the 2 and boy do we have a freshman that can play point

Christian just showed the freshmen the kind of effort they need to display at both ends if they want to steal his starting role. All the upside in the world can’t beat what he showed today.

If big Dave can’t rebound or defend better than what we saw he isn’t going to see the floor much.

I expected more from Mitch his effort seemed lacking which is odd.

Did I mention we have some freshmen that can play? Harris has some sick skills

Mitch is really really bad and I think most people are realizing that now. Unfortunately I'm not surprised but I get wanting to be hopeful for guys.

I think CB is locked as a starter the rest of his time at KU barring something insane.

Nov 28, 2020 05:26 PM #543

@BShark yeah I don’t expect upper end skill or athleticism out of Mitch but I do expect effort. His blocked shot, foul? Really??, was pure effort. That was about all he showed tho.

Nov 28, 2020 05:28 PM #544

Yeah he was otherwise really bad defensively in both games. Not surprised he only played 5 minutes against St Joe. Wilson and Tristan are better options at this point.

I wouldn't say Mitch is bad BAD - -SURE he gets beat but as most saw last year 9-10 time he was able to recover and block the shot. - -Best shot blocker we have on the team - -takes Charges more then others do on the team - will get on the floor and get dirty for loose balls when others want to try and bend over and reach for the loose ball. Mitch does more then just try and score - - he is a or does the dirty work - -grabs a few rebounds , the thing he is bad at is Scoring. - -a lot just want to see that a guy scores and that's it- -all they look at - -more to it then that. - Like I said he may not be the best defensive player either but a lot of time he recovers and still makes the play.

Mitch never gonna be a big time scorer but he ads a lot of other components to the game that others on this team don't , or don't want to have - -he is not a bad - -BAD player , hell I could even say he is ba - -but bad BAD ? - -wouldn't go that far. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Nov 29, 2020 09:09 PM #546

Boy St Joe has halted activities because of COVID. - -Gonzaga quarintine - -St Joe halting - that doesn't sound good. - - Worried with Marcus having breathing problems the other day against St Joe - -hoping he has become down with the COVID

Dave was out 2nd half with precautionary knee injury.

Interesting to monitor going into Tuesday

Right, that was new to everyone hearing that about Marcus.

KU did report no issues with Covid as they left Fort Myers for Indianapolis.
