Wow!

Mar 10, 2021 08:27 PM #3

After yesterday's presser, donors were HOT

Mar 10, 2021 08:36 PM #4

Also means Long would not hire Self's replacement, which is a huge relief

Mar 10, 2021 08:40 PM #5

GOODBYE!!! YES!

Mar 10, 2021 08:41 PM #6

Man all I'm gonna say is what a cluster F - - - - Our athletic department is worse then a warm pile of Crap. - our football program is going to plummet right back to where it was if not worse if that's possible. - The best thing we could do is Hire an interim for this year - -take your time and make the correct hire - -work on the fulltime Coach do your search during the year - Get it right for a change.

No Head Coach - -No AD - -Our Basketball program getting ready to be hit & hit hard - -mercy very trying times

Mar 10, 2021 08:51 PM #7

Good

Mar 10, 2021 08:52 PM #8

So with Long being fired how does all of this effect the Search of a New Head Coach ? - -Will we be able to go forward and name individuals to the Search committee without an AD ? - Can KU Hire a new Head Coach WITHOUT having an AD ? - questions that I would like to know the answers to? - Anyone have any to these ?

I can answer the first one. We can still hire a search committee to gauge interest from candidates (both positions). Too early to tell on timing for the football hire.

Yes, longtime exec in the Wichita area. Stupid rich and absolutely loves KU.

Mar 10, 2021 09:52 PM #18

Hmmmm, like BShark mentioned - - believe it or not Danny Manning wants or has shown interest as the AD at KU. - -was listening to CJ Moore from the athletic. Talking about not only do you need an athletic director that could manage the Football side but keep the Basketball side Happy, and he said we all know how Bill feels about Danny.

Makes you wonder if Bill would actually have any say/pull in that type of hire? - -my answer to that actually is - - YES truly believe he would, Bill's opinion is pretty valued - -people love Danny Manning , Bill likes Danny a lot. - - -

Another person mentioned was Red Baker - - Then another was Jerry MaHarrie ? - - ( UCF ) - -Danny is interesting

One thing we absolutely cannot do is let Bill make the choice. I don't have any problem getting his input but you can't let people pick their own boss. Just... no.

A couple names to watch... https://und.com/coach/missy-conboy-2/ ↗
https://nusports.com/staff-directory/travis-goff/4 ↗

Mar 10, 2021 10:23 PM #23

@FarmerJayhawk agreed.. I do think it's important for him to have input, but he can / should not make the decision.

As for Danny.. I love him, but I can't help but think that would be risky and irresponsible. The person who comes in needs to have some experience pulling things out of the fire, cause that's where things are right now. Priority one: Don't let things that aren't burning catch fire, and put a perimeter around the fires right away.

How about someone outside college athletics but with proven professional sports executive experience? Kevin Pritchard? R. C. Buford?

Mar 10, 2021 10:38 PM #25

@mayjay Yes. This would be a good idea.

Mar 10, 2021 10:41 PM #26

Buford makes like $9m per year, so doubt we can do that. Not sure on Pritchard.

Mar 10, 2021 11:21 PM #29

Here is a statement that Girod said about the new AD : We will immediately begin our search for the new AD. I will lead the process with the assistance of a search firm and four alumni advisory each of whom have experience in collegiate athletics they are : - -Linda Ellis Sims , - - Ray Evans , - - John Ballard - - & Wayne Simien.

Then there is talk like we won't even start our search for the next football coach until the 1st of April. - -Even more reason to just name an interim Coach for this Season - -take your time , make the right hire and either remove the tag of interim at the end of the year or announce a New Coach

Mar 11, 2021 12:07 AM #31

Thank god Long is gone. He was a terrible hire at the time and didn't do much to benefit KU while here. I said when he was hired why would you hire a guy who got ran out of his previous job for pissing off the donors? And history just repeated itself because of Long's weak ass justification and defense of his actions.

As for the football coaching search, I would name an interim for 2021 and let the new AD get settled into the job and see what he has to work with and let him/her have final say. DeBorg has head coaching experience so he seems as good a choice as any on the staff for the role of interim head coach. After 2021 is when I would begin looking for a full time replacement if needed. The timing right now with spring practice getting ready to start doesn't make sense to hire an outside guy as head coach right now. Not only would it be near impossible to get any kind of quality staff put together at this stage, but it would also set the players back as well why they try to learn a new system on the fly. With DeBorg, the players have already started learning his play book and terminology.

Mar 11, 2021 02:16 AM #32

I like Danny alot and am not knocking him, but he would be lost as an A.D. and with everything going on we certainly don't need someone who has to learn on the job. We need a steady, decisive hand, someone with experience.

Mar 11, 2021 06:14 PM #33

New name out there: Allen Greene, current AD at Auburn. Terry Mohajir is interested, money is an obstacle.

@FarmerJayhawk bring justin powell with him, package deal

I'm tired of the shuffle game. I'd like these positions filled by KU people. People that care more about the school than a paycheck. Let's find someone who is hungry as hell and driven to be a hero for his/her university. We've bought in to the sizzle for way too long. This is humiliating.

Mar 12, 2021 03:49 PM #36

@drgnslayr I’m definitely interested in some legacy hires as well.

Not Danny, but Banks and Kane would be a good gamble IMO.

I’m hard on the Missy Conboy train. FWIW, every top tier candidate either is from KS or has a KU degree. Terry Mohaijr, Travis Goff, and Banks are the top 3 as of yesterday. I’m fairly anti-Banks relative to most but I’d be willing to see how it turns out. If he pulls Kane and Kane pulls Scheelhaase he will have my attention.
