KU down 5 spots to #10. Iowa St up a few to #20. A chance for a road win against a ranked team. Not bad optics to have potentially after a bad, bad loss.

@BeddieKU23 I feel good about this one. I don't think we get caught by surprise on the 1-3-1 this time and get a dub.

Jan 31, 2022 07:03 PM #3

I think we win. Let's spank the Cloneheads.

True it's Hilton , but Iowas St has trouble scoring at times and if we can play our game against Tech- then we should be able to run and play better against ISU.

Truthfully - - I don't think it will be as tight as last time

I need to see toughness, smart playing and a Coach who will put a player's abilities above his own goal of feeding a big inside (which we don't have).

I'll take down my #Chiefs flag and put my new #Jayhawks flag up tomorrow after the much needed rain we are getting today.

Jan 31, 2022 08:45 PM #7

@Kcmatt7

I feel confident they will be better then Saturday because it just doesn't get much worse. I also feel confident because Self rarely losses back to back games. After that I don't know. Hilton probably will be difficult and we just have to find a way to defend in this one. Iowa St can get awful on offense so that potentially helps us a bit.

I hope you’re right we live and die by how our wings play. I got a bad feeling with how poorly we’ve played and how shaky we are on the road that it might be a 10 point beatdown where we can’t see to get within 4-6 without them pushing the lead back out.

Their laboring to score is what we have to have yet I think Harris and co turn it over against their pressure which leads to easy buckets.

Dam we are probably screwed now. who going to take that spot ? - We have a PG that's not a threat we just lost a 21 ppg wing for the game -We have big man that isn't so big , it's starting to snowball and snowball the wrong way

Feb 01, 2022 05:16 PM #13

Also hearing they may not even have games this week. Might not just be Och. They made the trip but could be something to watch.

Och out officially. More to come.

Feb 01, 2022 06:03 PM #15

Another rumor out there is Remy will not play either. We shall see

Feb 01, 2022 06:09 PM #16

Newell tweeted about 30 minutes ago about Yesufu continuing to work hard for when he gets the opportunity. That opportunity to score 30 could come tonight

Feb 01, 2022 06:29 PM #17

Looking like Self will have to let Yesu loose if Och/Remy are both out. Somebody’s gotta score.

Feb 01, 2022 06:54 PM #18

@rockchalkjayhawk

Iowa St 8th best defense per kenpom. We struggled to score in the first matchup and most likely 29 points per game will not play tonight. Might be a miracle to hit 50.

MOST likely would be a combination of players. If Remy is also out it will be all hands on deck. Plenty of minutes to go around.

Feb 01, 2022 07:44 PM #22

This game still might not be played, we will see.

Feb 01, 2022 07:53 PM #24

I'm begging to see a game where Yes gets 20+ minutes. Idc if we lose, just prove to me he can't do it if given the extended minutes.

Feb 01, 2022 07:57 PM #25

If Yes doesn't get time tonight, of course under the premise Bobby is hurt, Remy is out and Och is out, then he should leave after the season. Zero chance he ever gets any meaningful time here if an injured Bobby has more trust than a fully healthy dude in his 3rd year of D1 ball.

If it ends up being just Ochai and Remy out, Remy hasn't played much recently so not many minutes to replace. Yesufu and Pettiford probably split those minutes. Ochai does need a replacement in the line up which will likely be JCL because JCL typically plays the 3 and is also the primary wing sub. Yesufu and Pettiford do likely see a bump in minutes tonight, but JCL is the one likely to see the biggest jump in minutes tonight.

Thing is true ISU plays good defense tough - -BUT they really struggle at times to score themselves , long scoring droughts. MAYBE a strong Dave shows tonight - - Christan has got to quit passing up wide open looks , did the same thing last year - I just think even with things how they are I think if we come out solid we will find a way to win this. - We have been through several tight games so should be able to play ok if it is w will see.

ISU with Och out will probably look to clamp down even more on Christan - he has got to up his game tonight

You just don't know when to stop do ya roflmao - - but yet you can't look anymore like an idiot yourself - -what's it feel like to have a hardon for Coach Self - if there is an idiot you need to look in the mirror. - If you contstantly think you got to call names - just relax Francis- - oh sorry Jethro stole your name to Francis hope it's ok lmao

Feb 02, 2022 03:32 AM #49

@jayballer67 you’re reading me wrong.
Self messed up he’s an idiot.

I mess up in my job I’m an idiot. Don’t take the word so harshly....Self says way worse to his players.

Clearly don’t have one of those for him pretty inappropriate compared to idiot lol don’t call names but ya got a hard on for self lol don’t be a clown now

Self ain’t perfect; he gets called out; he slowly and stubbornly is seeing what computer nerds (idiots) like me and half the fans saw since Orlando and the Iona game.

I’m an idiot, you are, self is we all make mistakes gotta grow from them.

Now what will happen is if Joe plays way less minutes with Ochai back I’ll be disappointed because 2 guards won us that game it helped transition and then Dave tremendously. Most efficient game when two guards (one who always attacks had he had a leash and another who needs to attack more - Harris - played great)

Feb 02, 2022 03:41 AM #50

Bill’s a big ole idiot I tell ya....(sarcasm since ya won’t pick up on it granted he’s paid millions to play the right guys and have the team at his best)

He’s getting it though recognized who won him that game.

We are best in transition Och included layups and transition threes.
Half court isn’t our best unless it’s Bill’s out of bounds or backdoor lobs. Stuff to Dave doesn’t work let’s get out and run but Bill’s gotta relax his system to his players and if we win 79-77 he’s gotta enjoy the W that’s the goal right?

Growth though.....it’s below now see how he handles minutes with Baylor

Also Bill- But my 11th guy is gonna smoke you guys tonight.

Feb 02, 2022 01:27 PM #52

@BeddieKU23 Just some good ole fashion blue blooding right there

Feb 02, 2022 03:15 PM #53

@Kcmatt7

All the credit to Joe. Would he have played 23 minutes if JCL doesn't get injured early? Kid's taken lumps sitting on the bench, apparently working his but off to please the coaches and find his way here and then shines when he gets the chance, finally. He shined when given the chance at Drake last year. I think he's got a chip on his shoulder that you gotta itch and let go.

I was encouraged seeing Self give him that 'atta boy' in the locker room and his post game presser wasn't just coach speak. Obviously it was a reward for playing well and helping them win. Hopefully we see more of it.

Feb 02, 2022 03:19 PM #54

@BeddieKU23 I’m worried about Self going “see my toughening box worked, look what it did to Joe.”

Now I’m usually in agreement with Coach, but seeing Joe’s short leash all season makes me scratch my head

Feb 02, 2022 04:08 PM #55

@rockchalkwyo

Did he even have a leash? Several DNP's lately. But kudos for the kid being ready when his number was called.

Feb 02, 2022 04:18 PM #56

@rockchalkwyo you and 75% of jayhawk nation that actually acknowledges Self is human and even though he sees it all can still sometimes not play the players that give us the best chance to reach our ceiling and win

Feb 02, 2022 04:25 PM #57

@BeddieKU23 Best statement yet, "...the kid being ready when his number was called." That probably. shows the coaches as much or more than anything. It would be great if every kid got to play every game, but we know that disappeared when a kid hits high school varsity.

Feb 02, 2022 04:36 PM #58

@COHawk

His defense was outstanding, active and disruptive. When he dove for the ball that was already going out of bounds I bet Bill was loving it. That energy never left him all game and it was rewarded for at least last night.

I noticed a few defensive plays where Joe's speed stopped ISU from swinging the ball on the perimeter. He attacked closing out to his man faster then anyone we got on the team. His top end speed is at a different level then Harris/Remy and anyone else. It was impressive to see.

Feb 02, 2022 04:38 PM #59

@BeddieKU23 the defense and speed has always been there that’s why I can’t fathom how Self didn’t play him. That is normally what gets you on the floor first as it’s not scoring that Self cares about

Feb 02, 2022 05:11 PM #60

I couldn't watch the game live but there were some notable moments. Most spectacular blown dunk was by Brockington. JWill had the shittiest pass award by throwing one to ISU's bench until Dave said, Oh yeah. hold my effing beer. I mean Jesus wept. Other special moments were the back to back dribble of their foot by Big Dave and Dajuan. Thanks guys. I should note that the Cyclones really get after you on D.
Tristian puts the kabosh on Self's not developing players LOL. JC-L looked like Svi splashing treys there for awhile. This team might just be good enough to get to the sweet 16 but don't press me on why I think so. This may have been the best opportunity for JWill, who is my favorite player btw, for a quaddruple double of pts, rbs, assists and turnovers. These opportunities don't come around very often, thank goodness.

In Dave's defense, two of his passes looked like he was passing to where the guard could get open if they moved toward that spot. Not sure about the last one!

Feb 02, 2022 09:29 PM #65

True.

Feb 02, 2022 09:38 PM #66

Dave had a little extra zing on a few of those like he was leading the receiver to a tight spot on 3rd down for a first down catch.
