Bobby Pettiford Done For The Year
Feb 24, 2022 09:21 PM #1

This is what I was hinting at before. Starting to be put out there now through "premium" channels so I feel comfortable posting it here. Not sure exactly when KU will put the news out "officially".

His surgery was scheduled for today, haven't asked for an update on that.

Does he qualify for a medical RS?

Pretty sure he is over the threshold for games and minutes played.

He will not. Can't play in over 30% of games or appear after the halfway point of the season.

Ah okay. I knew about the 30% thing, but not that last part.

Self said Dave aggravated his foot injury early in the game on Tuesday. Also dealing with a knee injury that he suffered weeks ago. Self mentioned that rest could be in the cards for him with 4 games in 8 days coming and the big 12 tournament which could be 3 games in 3 days. Certainly setting up that we may not see Dave out there in some of these upcoming games. Very unsettling

Feb 24, 2022 09:59 PM #8

If they beat Baylor and win out. I would be all for playing a lot of bench players in the first round of the Big 12. They would have a 1 seed locked up, and it wouldn't matter.

@BeddieKU23 I guess he should've played Zach more...

It sounded like he might have played more if it wasn't for the injury. Self said he practiced twice in 6 weeks before going into a game and making a 3. Really hope he gets some chances with the crazy schedule next week. Seems inevitable he will

Zach time! I'm ready to lose and be amazed.

Yeah, I think without the injury he could have been a real part of the line-up. He was really coming along in practice before that...

The kid has talent. I love the way he drives the ball to the hoop. Next year he will flourish. imo.

Bobby had successful surgery and will miss 6 weeks in recovery. Seems like a strategic move to have him ready for a full off-season.

Being put out there by news outlets now.

Wonder what happened to cause the injury.
Weird for a guy his age to have such a ā€œstrainā€ that requires surgery.
Hope he heals and this isn’t a lingering issue.

He should have rested more but wanted to make himself available to try and play due to the Remy "situation".

He turned down the red shirt option when it was still an option. Sacrifice. As far as the injury, guy goes 100%, seems like he hit the padding and people going hard to the basket frequently.

Bill absolutely loves him and Zach.

Looks like we will have great small guard depth next year. I wonder what we will do with our one or two remaining scholarships? I'm guessing... fishing in the transfer portal.

Self said as much that HS recruiting was pretty much done and they'd see what the Portal had to offer depending on spots

Feb 25, 2022 07:05 PM #27

Obviously all depends on what CB and Wilson do.

They aren't going to land anyone playable if both of those guys are back. Not enough PT to go around. If one of them leaves I could see us adding a big piece in the portal. Otherwise I just expect two throwaway practice body scholarships.

Feb 25, 2022 07:32 PM #28

@Kcmatt7 I dug recently. CB expected back. JWill has switched from definitely gone to "up in the air".

Feb 25, 2022 09:05 PM #29

I think both JWil and CB should test the NBA waters.. like Och did. Most likely return to work in the areas mentioned.

So glad Och came back... not only for us, but for him!

I agree with this so much. Any player that's getting however small a sniff from the NBA should test the waters and go through the draft process as much as possible. There is nothing but positive things that can happen for a player if they go through the process, even if they know they're returning to school. The feedback from the NBA gives players specific target to work towards in the off-season in how to get better

Feb 25, 2022 11:42 PM #31

Cb and J Will return and I'll be one Happy Jayhawk.

From what I understand this will be the primary target. I'd expect a transfer obviously.

Surely your not expecting Bobby to transfer are you ?

Feb 26, 2022 03:10 AM #35

@jayballer67 I'm saying that the staff wants to add a big guard (would imagine at least 6'3-4'') and that it will be done via transfer as Self has said they are pretty much done recruiting high schoolers this cycle.
