The only "Big" job that could open this offseason looks like Louisville if they want to end that experiment early. My guess is they do if they can get the guy they actually want.

Anyone know if UT is just going to promote Terry or do they go look for a replacement? Seems like it would be hard to fire a guy who's done so well in Beard's absence. At the same time, you have to believe Terry can recruit and be a program builder. Otherwise move on and go get your guy when there is little to no "big boy" competition out there.

UT essentially is the best job that could be open all offseason. They can handpick who they want. That might not be the case in a year or two if you find out Terry isn't the guy.

Promoting Terry doesn't feel like the "Texas" thing to do. But I could be wrong

I really thought Texas would fall apart with everything going on and they just haven't. I imagine tournament results might be the deciding factor in whether he gets the nod. Gotta at least win 1 or two games.

Good to know. I feel like both him and Boeheim could go any year at this point (and probably should).

@cragarhawk I sort of think if I am the AD, it is a no brainer to promote him. From a "keep my job" perspective promoting Terry is sort of a "free hire" where you won't get that counted against you.

At the same time, UT being the big dog this hiring cycle means they should probably go handpick their guy. Go get Oats before UK does, go get Tang, etc.

This is their chance to make the big hire.

From things I've have seen mostly off some of their boards is he might be considered but most think it will be someone else or they would want someone else preferably

He addressed the media on this- his plans to return, also admitted he didn't take the Transfer Portal serious enough and relied upon his tried and true method of development. He may get another year to turn it around, I don't believe there's been any pressure from the AD about his job but the natives (fans) are getting restless for sure.

Imo Louisville has to move on. In the era where you can literally flip the roster in a year this was among the poorest roster management jobs I've seen. It felt negligent and I really don't understand what they were doing. Losing Wagner in the recruiting battle is another strike against this staff.

However I'm not convinced Louisville is a well ran program. There's been numerous issues with both recent football/basketball coaches and Pitino had his slew of issues before that. This latest hire is having the worst season in their history. Their issues seem like they also stem from above as well

With Terry, I think it was very unlikely he would get the job at first but they did increase his salary recently and having them battling for the Big-12 and whatever else in March has to have them at least thinking of retaining him. Assuming the guys love him but that roster will see an exodus after the season. Terry isn't the answer long term and with the move to the SEC, if I was Texas I'd be trying to get a big name.

That job honestly has Sean Miller written all over it.

I you hire a HC that is basically a recruiter only and he can't recruit well enough, with Louisville's resources no less... Yeah you move on.

I could potentially see Ohio St. open up as well. They're just terrible this year and Chris Holtman has never made it past the first weekend or really been that competitive in the Big 10 outside of his first season. This is year 6 and OSU has been slightly above average when we know that's a program that can easily contend for conference titles and Final Fours. That'd be a job to look out for to me and would be up there with Texas and Louisville in terms of prestige.

Man...imagine the high school recruiting landscape with Duke, UNC, and Kentucky all questionable choices for prospective talents. Could be a bonanza for KU - possibly for years to come.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I was about to write OSU's job might be on the line too. Wisconsin's new AD has shown he won't give too much leash to higher profile coaches and so while I don't think this year he's in jeopardy, another season like this and Gard will be gone too. Juwan Howard might start feeling the seat getting warm too.

Sadly, your right it does. Despite my personal feelings about Miller he's a good coach & would turn them around instantly in recruiting/x's and o's.

If they are smart just throw the book at Chris Beard. They can handle neg press for a week, it's Louisville. They are used to this.

Does anyone realize that Louisville has won 3 NCs?! It's hard to imagine because they always seem to be desperate and looking for redemption... the gimmick hire of Payne is a perfect example. It's easy to see why Denny Crum is responsible for 2 of their NCs... and I bet he rolls his eyes at UL basketball today. Gosh... I miss watching him execute that 2-2-1 full-court press with all those gifted speedsters with long arms. Every opponent was terrified to play UL back then.

Oooops... my bad. UL only has 2 NCs now because Pitino's was vacated. lol

I've always felt like Louisville, as a town and school, has always suffered from low esteem... kind of like Memphis. Hardaway might be breathing a little easier today with his contract extension but the pressure always follows him, just like it does for anyone coaching at UL.

It's a complicated mess at UL. Always had too many prominent forces near the program that attempts to micromanage within the program. Kentucky is a weird state and when I say I worry about the health of Calipari, I have reasons for this. I feel like there is a reason why Pitino left for Greece and it wasn't because of sex scandals. If I was a head coach I would never take a job at UK or UL. Too much hate in that state!
