Wait, KU is playing?
Feb 12, 2025 02:02 AM #1

Just kidding.

Feb 12, 2025 02:03 AM #2

Pretty slow start here but that’s okay, I’m just gonna enjoy every win we get with this group moving forward

Feb 12, 2025 02:04 AM #3

@approxinfinity said in Wait, KU is playing?:

Just kidding.

Supposedly the winless, last place team in the conference - which is hitting 56% right now...

Feb 12, 2025 02:05 AM #4

Bidunka

Feb 12, 2025 02:06 AM #5

Seeing a little bit of urgency on the defensive end

Feb 12, 2025 02:07 AM #6

Flory bringing good energy even if he is t getting some of the blocks he normally gets early.

Buffs have made 6 0f 7 two points shots. If that's urgency...

Feb 12, 2025 02:08 AM #8

I feel like every 3 Zeke shoots is money in AFH

Feb 12, 2025 02:08 AM #9

Yesterday in St Thomas, Virgin Islands. Tonight in AFH. Warmer in AFH,

D looks good except for not being able to stop their two bigs in close

I think it’s more that they got outscrapped there for a few minutes and have responded with energy of their own.

Feb 12, 2025 02:09 AM #11

I would say the d looks meh right now but they are at least trying which we can’t always say about these guys.

Feb 12, 2025 02:11 AM #12

@benshawks08 this, yeah

Feb 12, 2025 02:16 AM #13

Clean rip. Good try AJ

Feb 12, 2025 02:18 AM #14

Starting to trick myself into thinking there is at least a chance Rylan or AJ do get hot at the right time for us. It’s not impossible and about the only hope we have for a run. I’ve thought Rylan was the more likely of the two but won’t be upset if it ends up being AJ.

Feb 12, 2025 02:25 AM #15

Alright. More urgency on the offensive end. Quick passes.

Feb 12, 2025 02:26 AM #16

The ball definitely moves faster than these guys. Good thing to focus on.

Feb 12, 2025 02:26 AM #17

Danny should still be coaching at KU. Just not right seeing him over on that other bench.

Feb 12, 2025 02:28 AM #18

@approxinfinity said in Wait, KU is playing?:

Notably no Rylan or store on the floor in this stretch that feels more like a cohesive team effort…

Feb 12, 2025 02:28 AM #19

I’d love for Danny to comeback to Selfs staff

Feb 12, 2025 02:28 AM #20

KJ could def play some volleyball. Would be fun to see.

Feb 12, 2025 02:29 AM #21

I remember a college hoops preview that I was reading years ago was previewing the Big 8. The last sentence was "Colorado will be good at skiing this winter".

Feb 12, 2025 02:29 AM #22

Also anyone else notice that we’ve run a play to get Rylan the first three of the game for seemingly every game since he’s taken back the starting spot? Missed em all.

Feb 12, 2025 02:32 AM #23

Wow, are these passes fools gold against Colorado? This is nice

Feb 12, 2025 02:33 AM #24

Can we get Rylan som shoes with narrower heels? He’s always on that line.

Feb 12, 2025 02:33 AM #25

Rylan has stepped out of bounds 4 times now when catching the ball on the wing

Feb 12, 2025 02:35 AM #26

Announcer said it was Storr but I wasn't watching.

Feb 12, 2025 02:35 AM #27

Seems like a “more possessions means larger margin of victory over inferior team” gameplan

@approxinfinity said in Wait, KU is playing?:

This game, this week? Feels like way more than that this year.

Feb 12, 2025 02:37 AM #29

5 former Jayhawks scored 80 points combined in the Raptors/Sixers game. All five were in double figures.

Feb 12, 2025 02:38 AM #30

Good stretch by hunt to finish the half

Feb 12, 2025 02:38 AM #31

This is a bad CU team. KJ and the bigs played well luckily

Feb 12, 2025 02:39 AM #32

Why does KJ look so much more athletic today than he has all season?

Feb 12, 2025 02:39 AM #33

@Kcmatt7 because its a bad CU team?

Feb 12, 2025 02:41 AM #34

CU has a lot of close losses. I watched the Houston game. It was about a 4 pt game w/5 to go.

Feb 12, 2025 02:42 AM #35

@Crimsonorblue22 ah. Nice. Def wish Tad and Danny success

Feb 12, 2025 02:44 AM #36

KSU with another big win. Insane to think of all they did was play McDaniel 30mpg all season they may have made the tournament.

Feb 12, 2025 02:45 AM #37

Florida is #3. Are they for real?

Feb 12, 2025 02:46 AM #38

@approxinfinity I think so. They destroyed Auburn the other day at Auburn. I don't think KU could do that.

Feb 12, 2025 02:48 AM #39

@Kcmatt7 My ESPN box shows that game not over. Is it?

Feb 12, 2025 02:53 AM #40

Happy about 11 assists

Feb 12, 2025 02:56 AM #41

Bill exasperated

Feb 12, 2025 02:56 AM #42

Timeout jayhawks, Fran is excited!

Feb 12, 2025 02:58 AM #43

Team forgot the 2nd half was starting

Feb 12, 2025 03:01 AM #44

This is the Colorado run we all were not expecting but not surprised.

Feb 12, 2025 03:03 AM #45

We can dig it

Feb 12, 2025 03:05 AM #46

Coit came to shoot

Feb 12, 2025 03:05 AM #47

Hot diggi3-dog

Feb 12, 2025 03:09 AM #48

Lmao dude is absolutely bodying Flory

Feb 12, 2025 03:09 AM #49

Wow ok. Flory getting wrecked. Get KJ in there!

Feb 12, 2025 03:10 AM #50

This is not confidence inspiring.

Feb 12, 2025 03:11 AM #51

Juan looking good in transition

Feb 12, 2025 03:12 AM #52

Passmore should've passed more, maybe he'd have been in more than 6 seconds.

Feb 12, 2025 03:12 AM #53

Why doesn’t Hunt look to score when he gets it in the middle of the zone?

Feb 12, 2025 03:13 AM #54

If CU could hit wide open 3s they would be winning rn.

Feb 12, 2025 03:18 AM #55

Is Harris our best slasher?

Feb 12, 2025 03:19 AM #56

This is a really weird game I feel lucky we are still winning

Feb 12, 2025 03:23 AM #57

4 players with 8 and Hunt with double that.

Feb 12, 2025 03:23 AM #58

Colorado has the #10, #18 and #42 nba draft picks in 2023-2024? Dang Tad

Feb 12, 2025 03:29 AM #59

Is that Karl Malone's son?

Feb 12, 2025 03:30 AM #60

@approxinfinity they are definitely in full blown rebuild mode, hope they give him a few years

Feb 12, 2025 03:31 AM #61

Pretty inept offense. Hopefully they hang on

Feb 12, 2025 03:32 AM #62

@wissox he’s big. 6-10 268lbs. Probably more like 290

Feb 12, 2025 03:32 AM #63

Griffen 2-14 from 3 last 3

Feb 12, 2025 03:34 AM #64

Just 22 pts this half at the under 4. Not what you want to see at home

Feb 12, 2025 03:38 AM #65

That was a nice inbounds play.

Feb 12, 2025 03:38 AM #66

KJ is doing well tonight.

Feb 12, 2025 03:44 AM #67

A win is a win. Not an inspiring one but they all count the same.

Feb 12, 2025 03:46 AM #68

Danny Manning in the handshake line and does ESPN show him? No of course not.

Feb 12, 2025 04:42 AM #69

@wissox I don't get it. Why? I thought he was a HC of some colleges, never knew he's with Boyd.

Feb 12, 2025 01:22 PM #70

Like I said at this point we have to celebrate every win we can get even if it is against a team that won’t even sniff the NIT. Until we get different players and shake up our staff. So Ya!!! Got the W

Feb 12, 2025 03:25 PM #71

Just Curious , hoping someone can tell me the answer. How did this team ever just dog stomp UCF by what ?- -51 points ? -- watching this team play just don't know how that ever happened and on their home floor. I know UCF is no dominant team , but they are not total trash either. - -Just watching this team that's on the floor now just amazes me how that ever happened.

I mean seriously where is the flow to the offense ?- -where is the rhythm - sorry to say but it sure just looks like that we really struggle to score, this offense bogs down - -choppy, seems like we have been getting ourselves deep in the clock and then in the end are forced to throw up some hard contested three or just a wild shot. I think if we are honest with ourselves we would admit that right now it's hard to watch these guys - -painful- -just no flow what so ever.

Franny made a comment about Dickinson during the game saying at one point " That's what you will get from Hunter game in-- game out talking about him scoring right around twenty per game-- -that's very true BUT what you can also count on practically every game is his liability on the defensive end,- Every game just getting Schooled by a man driving right by him for easy scores -just getting torched on D - makes it really frustrating,- - So in the end what's happening with him is - - Yes he scores the ball but negates all the positive from the offensive end by all the negative on the defensive end, so actually zero effect from him-- Boy wish we could get out and run like wild horses looks so much bette. The offense we are running now just looks stagnant

Feb 12, 2025 03:27 PM #72

I can barely watch this team now. Might as well play Hunter at half court. Their offense is a big mess and their defense is hit and miss. I’m hopeful Hunter can prove everyone wrong and hit his second trey in B12 play before the year ends. That will really make my year! I’m so grateful we eeked by the 0-12 Buffs. But you know, everyone brings their best game against us.

Feb 12, 2025 03:51 PM #73

Self needs to go back to the defensive focused line ups with Moore starting and letting him guard the other team's best perimeter player. That defensive intensity Moore brought is what fueled KU's best stretch of the season. I don't care if that means the offense struggles to score 60. This team isn't good enough to play up tempo against good teams. Slow the game down, make it ugly as possible, play the race to 60 game, and give yourself the best chance possible to beat other good teams.

Feb 12, 2025 04:28 PM #74

@Texas-Hawk-10 Dajuan / Moore / Mayo / (Bidunga/KJ) / Hunter then? Bump Rylen?

Feb 12, 2025 04:58 PM #75

@jay4ever He's an assistant coach for Colorado. Thought seeing him in AFHS might be more of a story line than what they made it.

Hate this type of ball but since we screwed up the “guards” who transferred in this is the best option - spot on

Want it on record t-hawk and ballin agree

Feb 12, 2025 05:21 PM #77

@drgnslayr D2, Moore, Griffen/Mayo, KJ, Flory

3 good defenders, 1 decent when he is not tired, 1 bad defender

Feb 12, 2025 05:37 PM #78

@kuballin10 i think our offense is too anemic with Hunter out. But would be thrilled to be wrong

@approxinfinity said in Wait, KU is playing?:

Harris, Moore, Mayo, Adams, Hunter with Flory rotating for Adams and Hunter, then Griffen and Storr for Mayo, whoever the hot hand is, and Coit for Harris and Moore.

The goal would be to have 3 of Harris, Moore, Adams, and Flory on the floor together as much as possible.

Feb 12, 2025 06:14 PM #80

@approxinfinity I don’t disagree but he scores 20 and gives up 25

Analytics claim he’s good defensively but per film and just watching the game that isn’t backed up

Zags torched us last year and any team can on pnr right at him and d2

Feb 12, 2025 10:49 PM #81

I liked Adams effort last night. Looked the most healthy he's been since the injury. He's making some effort plays like tip outs on offensive boards and some defensive plays that nobody else is really doing. Had 5 dimes as well. The energy plays are where he shines most it seems.

Would take last nights game from him and bottle it up every game. That's what he can continue to do for this team

Feb 12, 2025 11:15 PM #82

Wondering if what comes easy to one guy and requires effort from another to replicate does not make the latter a better player.

Unfortunately with slothrocious defense for 30 min a night from our 5 seemingly a given, one must choose between these 2 at the 4.

Feb 12, 2025 11:33 PM #83

One thing from last night that was negative from the game that stuck with me. Passmore getting the quick hook in the first half after a 3 attempt. Just not sure that's a conference builder for a kid who's seen limited time due to depth at his position and being a freshman. You gotta give him a chance to play some possessions and learn.

Feb 13, 2025 05:38 PM #84

I think Passmore is gone for next year. Kid would have to be nuts to stay here. Another victim to the strange distribution of minutes here.

I've been happy with KJ last few games.

Self's million-dollar question: how do we get consistent play from any of these kids today? I know it's something common everywhere in college basketball, except a few teams are more consistent.

We all scream at players for making too much NIL... Is it possible the NIL creates a lot more chaos in their lives?

Feb 13, 2025 07:42 PM #85

@drgnslayr I have to agree I think Rakese is gone, dam shame really wasn't given a fair shake - never got to play extended minutes, I actually thought he would of been gone already, tough kid I think he will land some where and be fine

Feb 13, 2025 08:01 PM #86

I believe he's been out for 3 weeks, 2 hurt and last week flu.

Feb 13, 2025 09:09 PM #87

How many People genuinely expected Passmore to come in and be a rotation players from day 1?

He came here knowing he wasn't likely to be in the rotation as a freshman. Passmore 100% fits the mold of a role player. If he's not patient enough to wait for his turn, then is that a player you really want?

He absolutely reminds a bit of Travis Releford. A guy who's projected to make most of his impact on the defensive end of the floor, but will have the ability to get to basket and make some 3's later in his career.

Can we please get rid of this notion that a freshman has to be an instant impact/rotation level player otherwise they will or should leave? I can just about guarantee that Passmore wasn't guaranteed minutes from day 1 and that he would have to earn them.

Even in the limited minutes he's had this season, he hasn't good. He's got a PER of 1.9 and 35% turnover rate. Passmore will be a good player in time, but it was never expected to be this season.

Feb 13, 2025 09:13 PM #88

Yeah unless there are major rumblings about a player being unhappy, I'm not going to put too much stock in speculation of who is gone and who is back. Every comment here over the offseason was that Jamari was going to be gone and he is still with the team.

Feb 14, 2025 02:10 AM #89

Passmore basically gets walk on minutes. He isn’t even a role player. A hundred miles from a Travis Releford. He can’t be judged when playing 1 or 2 minutes every 5 or 6 games. I never thought he was ready for rotation minutes… but he’s not even above walk ons.

Feb 14, 2025 02:51 AM #90

Releford wasn't a rotation player either as a freshman, and had several DNP's that year and then redshirted his 2nd year. Obviously, I'm not comparing 1st year Passmore to 5th year Releford, but that's the player comp for Passmore. That's what Passmore can eventually develop into if he stays at Kansas. And no, you don't need to see exclusively his KU film to see that comparison.

Feb 14, 2025 03:25 AM #91

I just hate how he get pulled after one mistake and we go back Bill playing favorites. Some guys can get away with some pretty silly plays as long as they are Bills pets. The more he does that and the more Flory sits on the bench, the less recruits will be interesting unless they are already on draft board. Remember how Self rode freshman Grimes coat tails for 30 minutes a game tho he stank up the place more often than not. Feel like their needs to a happy medium

Grimes played the minutes he did because there weren't better options that season. That team had 8 guys start at least 9 games and only 3 that started all 36. Doke only played 9 games before injury ended his season, Vick was kicked off the team, Self had to pull Ochai Agbaji's redshirt because that team had no depth. 5 different players started between 9-20 games that season. The other options for Grimes minutes that season were Charlie Moore or KJ Lawson.

Who would've gotten those minutes over Grimes? The two options were Charlie Moore or KJ Lawson. Self didn't have a quick hook with Grimes because the other options were the two that were worse than Grimes.

Feb 14, 2025 04:26 AM #93

@kjayhawks the quick hook for an open shot is bad coaching

Even worse was his taking shak out after 1 turnover when he’d came in for d2 a game or two ago. D2 goes right back in and immediately proceeds to turn it over but of course he won’t get yanked

Feb 14, 2025 05:13 AM #94

@Texas-Hawk-10 roster construction was still a problem then, but not minute distribution… good old days.

Feb 14, 2025 06:12 AM #95

@approxinfinity said in Wait, KU is playing?:

@Texas-Hawk-10 roster construction was still a problem then, but not minute distribution… good old days.

Roster construction wasn't a huge issue that season. That team was just insanely young with Vick and Dedric Lawson being the only upper classmen in the rotation, and I'm deliberately excluding Doke because he missed 75% of that season. The core of that team was who ended the next season as title favorites. Dotson, Doke, Agbaji, Garrett, and McCormack were all back the next season and the core of that 2020 team.

Feb 15, 2025 02:56 AM #96

@Texas-Hawk-10 Vick could've blossomed late that season. Not sure whatever happened to him. He worked really hard on those 3pt shots.

Feb 15, 2025 03:55 PM #97

@jay4ever Vick left the team for "personal reasons" and didn't return meaning was kicked off the team. One of the biggest positives abiut Self is that when he kicks someone off the team, he doesn't always frame it that way in order to not ruin a kid's career.

With Vick when he declared for the draft after his junior year, that was Self kicking him off the team because Vick wasn't an NBA prospect. The expectation was Vick would withdraw from the draft and transfer. Somehow, Vick got back into Self's good graces enough to return to KU for his senior season. The story is Vick's attitude deteriorated later on during the season and the family emergency was real, but something that would've only meant missing 1 or 2 games if I'm remembering right, and Self used it as a way to kick Vick off the team without publicly kicking Vick off the team.

The team chemistry that season was much better and KU played a lot better down the stretch than before Vick left the team.

Feb 15, 2025 07:30 PM #98

@Texas-Hawk-10 Muchas gracias, senor. That explains it. I hope he'd find something to make ends meet for fam.
