@wrwlumpy Helluva collage lump. I vividly recall a game in Gallagher Iba Arena during the Byron Houston years when my nephew was called for an intentional on a Sean Sutton breakaway. The Okie Highway Patrol surrounded our fans behind the bench & that obnoxious cowboy mascot was firing his blank pistol incessantly. I was nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs, as the sides of that place were so damn steep & tall & the trash was raining everywhere. We had a small lead at the time but after that it didn't matter much. Best thing about that trip was the visit to Eskimo Joes for pre game refreshments. Sure didn't hang around much afterwards. Houston had the squeakiest voice for a big guy I'd ever heard sayin "Watch dem damn elbows boy."
@globaljaybird Your nephew played for KU? What was his name if you don't mind me asking?
The two father's of College Basketball Coaching.
@wissoxfan83 I could only wish sox. KU. Ronnie Schmitz played for Lee Hunt at UMKC. Here is a ink to his college bio.

He was a really good college player & trailed only Steve Kerr in college 3 pt shooters when he graduated. He used to hit from the curb when he balled at the house, & was 28 ft from the backboard. The year Cincy was in the FF they lost at the buzzer to them in Municipal. They may have beaten KSU & Neb that year also. I really don't remember which years those W's were. But they were a damn good squad for several years & had about 24 W's but did not get the invite. Ron did compete in the 3 pt contest at the FF when he was a senior. Tony Dumas was a team mate & was the 19th pick in the draft to the Mavs that year. He played 10 - 11 years & Ronnie had so many back problems that after a few tryouts with Bulls, Suns, etc., he decided not to play professionally.
Where is a picture of HCBS? The most famous OSU alum of them all... at least for Jayhawks fans
@globaljaybird like rascal's new pic!!!
@Crimsonorblue22 Thanks. He's chowing down from his 2 gallon kubucket !!
@globaljaybird I don't remember that name obviously, but I do remember Dumas. He was a beast. Thought he'd do better professionally.
@wissoxfan83 Tony played in Europe several years after the L & made a good living. Ron is a bus exec & married a pharmacist.
@wissoxfan83 Jeff Graves brother also played on that team.
Speaking of Playing in Europe, I think Jamari has qualified himself to never again have to sleep in a car during the winter.
My favorite OSU game was the "Pants on Backwards" Doug Gottlieb edition.
Drunk KU fan walks on the court to shake the hands of the Seniors on Senior night and gets a technical on KU that causes Roy to scream "Dad Gum!"

@wrwlumpy There were several local HS guys on the team but I only remember one by name, Anthony Davis from Schlagel., as I worked in KCK with his father. I Think AD played in South America for awhile & recall someone telling me he was a State Trooper upon return. One of the guys on the team was from Columbia & his thesis was to develop the BB program at the new (1993) Olathe Y. He talked me in to coaching in those initial years & some of the most fun I ever had. Wow, 25 years back is hard for an old fart to remember. Hell I can't remember if I turn off a light when I leave the room sometimes !!
@wrwlumpy Just went to fanbase.com & viewed some old rosters. Denmon, Ed Williams, Echols, Dickerson...the memories came soaring back. One time Chiefs broadcaster Tom Headrick was the play by play announcer. Those were great years lump, got to meet a lot of neat people, athletes, celeb charity games, Vitale, etc., neat times for the family.
Self's daughter came into her father's room while he was taking a nap and woke him to tell him that it would be OK if he were to decide to take the OSU job, but she wanted him to know that she was staying at Kansas. This happened because of stories like this:
Speaking of the "Itch", while researching the Alumni of OSU, I remembered the stories during the 2008 National Championship where Cal and Bill took out the two girls they had just met, to find out who was from which college and then, through the LJW I found out that Cal's wife was married to Nolan Crowmwell, the All-American Quarterback at KU. Then, looking further, I found that Cal had been at KU previously coaching the JV for Ted Owens. Nolan was playing for the Rams and had an apartment in LA while Ellen stayed in Lawrence and worked in the Ticket office. Then, I ended up on a Louisville sports blog where Kentucky trolls were pimping the Cardinals about the Pitino sex scandal, and the Cardinals were arguing back about Cal, Ellen and her break up with Nolan as being just as scandalous. I found no proof of this and other articles mention that she was divorced from Nolan before she met Cal.

I actually played with basketball's that had laces.
I'm going to hell for this Jaybate.
For John McLendon, whom KU Basketball owes an apology for not having done MORE for, and who should consider it a great privilege and honor to have contributed at all to enabling his great contribution to the game of basketball. He developed the modern running game, he won three NAIA championships at Tennessee State, coached in the ABA, and influenced Larry Brown greatly. And when his run was over, he came back and accepted us despite our flaws.
Speaking of Oklahoma dogs... Here's my dog in front of the least imaginative statehouse in the country. Gotta love the literal monument to the oil and gas industry planted right at the front entrance! Hire an artist next time, OK?!
@Crimsonorblue22 (rofl)
@globaljaybird would that be the present mrs global?
@Crimsonorblue22 Uh...no ma'am.
@globaljaybird oops!!!
@JayHawkFanToo Wasn't it Fred White (announcer) who used to call him that? Fred was one of my most favorite guys. I miss him doing play by play. If it were up to me he'd be in Cooperstown right there with Denny Mathews. JMO
@globaljaybird Me thinks @Crimsonorblue22 is trying to keep us under control. When she gets to be our age she'll understand the simple things in life like reminiscing. (giggle)
I seem to recall that was his nickname; on the other hand we had "Sir" Richard Scott...
Anyone think Coach would try some junk defenses? Don't remember how many pts forte had last year, but the game was intense, a few technicals, etc. If I remember right, we were up quite a few and let them back in. We have lots of weapons to throw at them, should be fun!!
The first game in Lawrence was indeed very intense game and KU won by 2 after leading at half by 17. There were 6 technical or flagrant fouls. Here is a link βto the game recap. OSU won the return game in Stillwater 72-65 and prevent #5 KU from winning the conference title outright.
@JayHawkFanToo I was at the game, so exciting. Wasn't that the infamous flagrant 1 on Selden? The game at osu was a real low for us. Tharpe getting hit in the headπ! It was satisfying to beat them in a tough draw for the tourney, w/out Embiid!
We will be behind in this game probably several times. I won't worry as long as we keep it close.
Sometimes, the man guarding Forte will have to fight through 5 or 6 different screens.
It seems like he's been there for ever. Coach will have something special to stop him. He won't make every one and we have to be ready for the long rebounds.

Coach Self should place a call to his friend Frank Martin at South Carolina, they held Forte to 1-10 from the 3 and 1-14 overall for a total of 5 points and won comfortably 75-49. Just sayin' :)
That was Keiton Page, the original Smurf on Steroids; Forte is the Smurf on Steroids Part Deux.
@JayHawkFanToo who do you think will guard who? Selden could post one of those guards up, guess oubre too. Doesn't osu play some zone?
@JayHawkFanToo I swear, I saw another short guy on the bench that reminded me of both of them. A3rd perhaps?
Anthony Hickey is 5'-11" senior guard (28. mpg, 9.3 ppg) and Tyree Griffin a 5'-10 freshman guard (10.1mpg, 1.3 ppg). Forte, a junior, is listed at 5'-11" (33 mpg, 17.7 ppg). No question that Travis Ford, (5'-9" ) favors and has had good success with short guards like himself.
@Crimsonorblue22 : I was going to say you must be thinking of Ford.
The kid I saw was a small white kid, clone to the other 2. He didn't play.
Maybe it was a walk-on or something. They have a couple of guys that sit on the end of the bench that are listed as 6'2" so they're probably about 5'10".
The closest (white kid) would be Ford Stuen, a 6'-2" junior guard (2mpg, 1.2ppg)
@JayHawkFanToo could be, just saw him coaching up forte during a time out.
