Reality check
Mar 15, 2015 12:27 AM #1

I think as KU fans we need to temper any NCAA tournament hopes. The mayor outcoached HCBS down the stretch, and it was quite evident. Iowa st. just spread the floor and destroyed KU. HCBS had no answer until it was way to late.

I was quite impressed with the Iowa St fans. I guess we can call the Sprint Center the home away from home for the Clones. The were out in full force.

Let's face it we play (((Bad Ball))) and it doesn't work against teams that can actually put the ball in the hoop. I thought for a moment in this game we were going to play a balanced game. Yet again we went inside play after play after play. It cost us big time as the Mayor packed everybody inside as many teams are doing to KU. Many times I counted as many as 4 Clones in the paint on a given play.

The recipe to beat KU is there. Just pack everybody inside. :(

Mar 15, 2015 12:31 AM #2

@DoubleDD sadly, i agree. There I go again, all manic n stuff

Mar 15, 2015 12:34 AM #3

@DoubleDD Self has not exactly done very well with in game adjustments the last two years.

Mar 15, 2015 12:36 AM #4

@Lulufulu

Nah we as KU fans have to protect ourselves from let downs. As we are the best fans in the world and it really hurts when we lose. However we need to take our KU glasses off and see things for what they are, but not all is lost. If anything this KU team is showing a toughness that can bold well for next year. Especially if HCBS can sprinkle in some OAD talent.

Mar 15, 2015 12:42 AM #5

And we shot over 90% from FT with higher than expected attempts based on ISU foul history. Percentages caught up with us. Can't play piss poor offense and expect to win consistently.

Mar 15, 2015 12:52 AM #6

@DoubleDD

why are you talking about next year when we've yet to finish this year. smh

Mar 15, 2015 12:54 AM #7

@Bwag

you could say we played just as poor defense in the 2nd half. I mean how else do you blow a 17 point lead in 5 minutes.

Mar 15, 2015 12:56 AM #8

Self broke his own rules and pulled out the zone, which was a good move. He's gotta find a way to help this team on offense, though. Driving and pitching isn't getting it done, especially with Cliff gone and Perry under the weather.

Mar 15, 2015 12:57 AM #9

@ajvan 2-11 2-10, Perry and Mason

Mar 15, 2015 12:57 AM #10

@DoubleDD Man, from before the tip I thought KU stood a good chance of getting beat by ISU, then they went up by 16 and I got giddy for a trophy. Major bummer, I dont know why seeing as though I thought from the beginning KU might lose this one.

Depending on where KU gets placed as a 2 seed, they still have a good chance at a sweet 16 showing this month.

Mar 15, 2015 12:57 AM #11

Heal Perry up!

Mar 15, 2015 12:59 AM #12

@Crimsonorblue22 You've got to think the war of attrition that's the Big 12 season is starting to wear on Mason. He doesn't have the bounce and motor he had early in the season.

Mar 15, 2015 12:59 AM #13

@ajvan Mason not controlling those pitches!

Mar 15, 2015 01:00 AM #14

@Crimsonorblue22 For real! Massage, physical therapy, ultrasound vibration therapy, there are loads of other things KUs staff can do.

Someone tell me what happened to Oubre? Why did he have such a quiet night? Was it because shots werent falling and ISU packed in to prevent drives?

Mar 15, 2015 01:01 AM #15

@Lulufulu good question, got 2 quick fouls, 'bout it

Mar 15, 2015 01:01 AM #16

@Lulufulu

I would for KU to make a deep run in the tourney, but I just don't see it. KU does nothing really well. I know everybody keeps preaching BAD Ball, yet all I see is more losses.

Mar 15, 2015 01:03 AM #17

We were a very young team the 2nd half and it showed in our play. Our offense became staginant and we gave up too many easy ones. Where was Lcae and Oubre?

Mar 15, 2015 01:03 AM #18

@DoubleDD glad I have more faith than you! Makes it more fun too.

Mar 15, 2015 01:03 AM #19

@BeddieKU23

Because KU isn't very good?

Mar 15, 2015 01:04 AM #20

@Crimsonorblue22

You should u are awesome. :)

Mar 15, 2015 01:05 AM #21

@DoubleDD not really! Just love our team and they give me some great times!

Mar 15, 2015 01:06 AM #22

If you don't have faith, what do u have?

Mar 15, 2015 01:07 AM #23

@Crimsonorblue22

I love them too. Die and cry with them. I'm just saying as KU fans we might want to temper our expectations a bit. You know sometimes KU fans have to high of expectations. This KU just isn't that great.

Mar 15, 2015 01:08 AM #24

@DoubleDD well I have high expectations, just the way I am!

Mar 15, 2015 01:09 AM #25

@Crimsonorblue22

I know you would, ') but I have a hard time shaking off loses. So I have to be real with myself. It's helps.

Mar 15, 2015 01:12 AM #26

I hate losing too!

Mar 15, 2015 01:12 AM #27

@Crimsonorblue22 I seem to recall we've had some very good teams in the past that have put their foot to the throats of the opponents in the first half only to let them come back. Fortunately those other teams were older/experienced and able to squeak out a win in the end. I've always thought it to be a trait of KU BB just not having the real killer attitude.

Mar 15, 2015 01:14 AM #28

@brooksmd think it really hurt us losing Embiid! Guys are working hard, just don't give us much o.

Mar 15, 2015 01:16 AM #29

@Crimsonorblue22

Faith is fickle. I mean faith is really believing in something you don't see, but believe it's there. So it's kind of a double edge sword that you are asking. As I believe there is a God, Hence I have faith. Yet it's not that hard to believe. Just look around. Yet having faith in a basketball team is different. I just don't see the intangibles that make this KU team nothing more than an early out in the tournament.

Mar 15, 2015 01:17 AM #30

@DoubleDD your decision!

Mar 15, 2015 01:22 AM #31

@Crimsonorblue22

Not really a decision just seeing things for what they are.

Mar 15, 2015 01:24 AM #32

@DoubleDD I'm with you on faith, but being a life long Cubs fan, I believe until the final buzzer. I don't know what this team will do starting next week, but until their final game and the season is over I'm there.

Mar 15, 2015 01:26 AM #33

@brooksmd

Me too. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to be the downer or make anybody mad, I'm just saying as KU fans just enjoy this team and don't put to much expectations on this team. I just don't want to see any KU fans out on ledge thinking about ending it all. LOL

Mar 15, 2015 01:26 AM #34

The last couple games showed us they can play D when motivated, but their offense makes me want to pull my hair out. Hard to know what else to hope for when the hour is this late...healthy versions of Ellis + Mason plus New Selden would help. What are the odds they all show up at the same time?

Mar 15, 2015 01:29 AM #35

@ajvan

My thinking is KU should get out of this weak Big 12 (sarcasm) and play in the SEC or ACC where they can just cruise, and not be all beat up come tournament time.

Mar 15, 2015 01:30 AM #36

@ajvan be nice, wonder if Perry will be ready and strong? Oubre disappeared today too! Cliff ? Not a whole lot of good news there.

Mar 15, 2015 01:34 AM #37

@DoubleDD Ha, I hear you. Would be nice to beat teams by double digits every night and always have your best players rested and ready to go. But we're KU. We do things the Right Way. ;)

Mar 15, 2015 01:35 AM #38

@DoubleDD I lament your frustrations but Fred didn't score a point. Fact is, he had some really better horses to ride-Bill's was lame. While KO was hugely disappointing from my view, I think we also have to give ISU some credit-Niang is tuff as hell to defend & he's not the only one-McKay, Morris too. Plus the whole starting 5 are quick as most teams we've faced all year. Maybe if LL & especially Mick had more minutes earlier in the season, we beat them 2, maybe 3 times this year. Woulda coulda shoulda? Our sophomores just couldn't pull it out at the lane like we hoped when it was right there for the taking. All losses are tuff, but chin up Hawk fans, tomorrows another day to be one.

Mar 15, 2015 01:36 AM #39

@Crimsonorblue22 I hope Perry can bounce back, but knee injuries are killer. I don't think we'll see him in Super-Fast-Twitch-Perry mode again this year, unless it's for short stretches. Suspect we won't see Cliff again this year. :( Oubre has all the tools, but he's such a diamond in the rough that he's streaky as hell. Aside from Mason & Ellis, you never know exactly who will show up on a given day.

Self winning the Big 12 may have been a bigger coupe than we realize?

Mar 15, 2015 01:37 AM #40

@ajvan

Yes we do, and this Big weak 12 is getting scary good. We hear it all the time look at Duke, Kentucky, Arizona and so on. Look how great their conferences are? Shoot put KU in the SEC, ACC, and Pac and they are in the final four every year. Nothing like having 10 to 15 games of just showing up and winning.

Mar 15, 2015 01:39 AM #41

@globaljaybird

No I with ya the Clones won it. KU players played hard and they just weren't good enough, and that's my point.

Mar 15, 2015 01:40 AM #42

@globaljaybird HCBS said Lucas is pretty beat up also but he hides it good.

Mar 15, 2015 01:40 AM #43

@brooksmd

I"m loving me some Lucas. I hope HCBS doesn't over recruit him.

Mar 15, 2015 01:43 AM #44

@DoubleDD About a year ago maybe longer I watched youtube video of Lucas and thought he was a beast then and wondered why he never got the PT. There is a player there who just needs PT.

Mar 15, 2015 01:44 AM #45

@brooksmd

You know it brother. It seems the minutes he gets, he gets better. So surprised it took so long for HCBS to put him in the starting lineup? Lucas just fits HCBS high/low like a spoon to ice cream.

Mar 15, 2015 01:49 AM #46

@ajvan I just listened to self, Mason and Wayne's podcast. Coach renews my hopes. I had a thought if Wayne plays like he has a few more games, would this be his best chance to go?

Mar 15, 2015 01:50 AM #47

@brooksmd he just soooo slow!

Mar 15, 2015 01:51 AM #48

@Crimsonorblue22

Well do tell? Don't leave us in the dark?

Mar 15, 2015 01:56 AM #49

@brooksmd Yes he landed really hard flat on his back & tailbone a few games ago & hasn't been healed from pain yet. Some guys just have a different pain threshold & don't allow it to be displayed. Part of the psych process of letting the opponent see a weakness is some of it. I like LL ALOT. He's gonna be great for us before he's done at KU, mark my words. Relefords' redshirt, & fresh & soph year frustrations are very comparable to the path LL is taking. Hell Rele played for a Nat Championship after paying his dues for FIVE flippin years and was one of the best lock down defenders we've had since HCBS has been here-maybe even EVER. Not saying LL will make/achieve that pinnacle but think about it. When he is a 5th year senior, so will Frank, Selden, & Greene be seniors also. Graham & Svi will be juniors. And unless he gets injured & can't play LL is staying till then. he may not quite be as good a rim protector as Whithey, but he's gonna be damn good just the same before he's finished.

Mar 15, 2015 01:58 AM #50

@globaljaybird those big guys get beat up good!! Mason needs to rest some too. If u haven't listened to spodcast it's on KU sports

Mar 15, 2015 02:03 AM #51

@Crimsonorblue22 I don't go there much anymore.-google trackers give me pop ups on about every site I visit after going there. Might check for a game time but thats about all. I don't like to read the comments at all there anymore either Too many whiners & not enough knowledge or loyalism. Frankly that site could blow a tattoo of a $100 bill IMO. OK @brooksmd-Now you get your laugh !!

Mar 15, 2015 02:07 AM #52

@brooksmd Damn Uncle Pete strikes again !!

Mar 15, 2015 02:08 AM #53

Why was Kelly riding the pine most of the second half?

Mar 15, 2015 02:13 AM #54

I'm more disgusted with this team than any KU team that I've ever seen. Including football.

I'm signing off now so I don't say a lot of really mean, ugly things. Everyone have a good evening.

Mar 15, 2015 02:27 AM #55

It could be worse, we could be misery.

Mar 15, 2015 02:37 AM #56

@wissoxfan83

LMAO nice. However I'm afraid the fix is in. 810am KC's biggest sports station is bagging on the demise of KU basketball. I guess the SEC pays more?

Mar 15, 2015 03:01 AM #57

@Crimsonorblue22 Oh man, wish I'd listened in, I need inspiration for this team! Feel free to share any more insider knowledge. ;) Good point, this is the best Wayne has looked since his freshman year. A strong, bouncey, high-flying tourney could get him back on draft boards.

Mar 15, 2015 03:02 AM #58

@brooksmd I love his smarts & work ethic, just wish he could get off the ground without a runway & signal lights.

Mar 15, 2015 03:04 AM #59

@ajvan just go to KU sports

Mar 15, 2015 03:04 AM #60

@ajvan

My friend Lucas post up like, like, like dare I say Danny Manning. No seriously Lucas is showing he's a dangerous man.

Mar 15, 2015 03:05 AM #61

@jayhawk-007 2 fouls early and couldn't produce. Read his thought at kusports

Mar 15, 2015 03:19 AM #62

@DoubleDD Danny had speed & agility, though. If Lucas can figure out how to pull off the concrete Adidas...watch out. I'll ride that bandwagon all day.

Mar 15, 2015 03:19 AM #63

@Crimsonorblue22 reluctantly clicks over

Mar 15, 2015 03:21 AM #64

@ajvan we need a 5, no doubt!

Mar 15, 2015 03:23 AM #65

@Crimsonorblue22 Let's hope Diallo, Zimmerman et all are getting the message!

Mar 15, 2015 03:25 AM #66

@ajvan

hell ya. :)

Mar 15, 2015 03:29 AM #67

@ajvan still think Oubre's gone?

Mar 15, 2015 03:53 AM #68

For those that hate the google trackers, I will share a trick that has been working for me. Most browsers have an option in the file menu to open a New Private Window. Chrome calls it an "Incognito" Window.

In any case, when I go to those other sites in those private windows, there are no cookies or traceable elements of my identity and the google questions are usually not served.

Mar 15, 2015 02:07 PM #69

@bskeet Thx skeet-IE's in private browser curtails the ads also.

Mar 15, 2015 02:16 PM #70

@Crimsonorblue22 yeah, I think he is. Maybe he's a different kind of cat, but unless he plays himself out of the lottery, why come back?
