Where is HighEliteMajor???!
Nov 17, 2016 07:30 PM #1

Can anybody remind him that the season has begun and we are missing his insightful analysis.

Nov 17, 2016 07:36 PM #2

I was about to write that about you!

Nov 17, 2016 08:10 PM #3

@wissox Well that's because my obvious one-liners are quite amusing. :bowtie:

Nov 17, 2016 08:39 PM #4

Click users above, then reputation, then click HEM. His last comments were 10 months ago and as always, someone got him angry and we haven't seen him since.

Nov 17, 2016 09:32 PM #5

@wrwlumpy He was on like 2 months ago. The data dump set everyone back 10 months. I'm sure he will be back soon.

Nov 17, 2016 09:37 PM #6

@HighEliteMajor We need you!!

Nov 17, 2016 10:27 PM #7

I love his analysis, although I disagree with some of his conclusions. I've been reading his posts for years before KUBUCKETS, and I think he is one of our best posters.

Nov 17, 2016 11:53 PM #8

@FarSideHawk Yeah where is the old coger anyhow?!

Nov 18, 2016 01:39 AM #9

Fighting battles elsewhere. Trying to pull him back in!

Dec 19, 2016 04:00 AM #10

Fighting battles elsewhere indeed....on twitter.

Dec 19, 2016 04:57 AM #11

@HighEliteMajor

If you are out there.... my boy is asking when he is going to meet his future coach!

Your sharp basketball mind is needed in here, too. You help balance things out.

Dec 20, 2016 04:22 AM #12

@Lulufulu He's not that old.

Dec 20, 2016 05:41 AM #13

I bet he's coaching his daughter's basketball team. Its that season.

Dec 20, 2016 01:09 PM #14

@MoonwalkMafia On twitter? Surely he ain't that guy with the orange hair?

Dec 20, 2016 03:34 PM #15

I think he got appointed to the transition team.

But unfortunately his basketball instincts have gotten him confused and he took the appointment too literally. He keeps telling the team that after a turnover they need to pass ahead and be willing to pull up for a 3 pointer.

Dec 20, 2016 04:06 PM #16

@MoonwalkMafia Just went down that rabbit hole. He seems to have opinions beyond basketball. Can't say I'm surprised by that!

Dec 20, 2016 04:44 PM #17

I'm pretty sure I saw him on a Bible Buckets board recently with the handle LowInferiorMinor. I assumed it was him as he was arguing that just because God created the heavens and the earth does not mean He is above criticism. He went on to point out that God rested on the seventh day when he should have been developing a strategy to effectively break the press.

Dec 20, 2016 06:52 PM #18

Ah so many so busy trying to mock an prove a point. @HighEliteMajor is a coach/mentor by his nature. You can tell that by his posts, or what he used to post.

A Coach/Mentor never accepts the norm. I'm sure the Great Coach Self doesn't turn to a player or his team and says hey you guys are the greatest. I'm sure the words your the best at everything you do and you no longer need to practice passes from his lips. I'm pretty sure Coaches dialogue consist of hey pretty good game but you can be better.

I know some of you are just happy that @HighEliteMajor has moved on. His post on how Coach could be better made you feel uncomfortable. His break down of what Coach did or didn't do made you feel sleazy. Also his desire to raise the bar for KU and Coach was damn near sac religion, and must be met with mob rule and pitch forks.

Rest easy there are no more posters here to stir the pot To make you think beyond your living room tv. No longer do you have to worry about engaging in some taboo line of KU basketball. Nope now we can all just hold hands and sing about how great KU and we are.

Dec 20, 2016 07:25 PM #19

@DoubleDD I don't care if you question how Bill Self or KU Basketball.

What I didn't like about HEM being here is that you could argue with him and when the argument got a little rough it was never other posters telling HEM to calm down. It was always on you or the person arguing to walk away. HEM gets a free pass to say whatever he wants when he is on the site. That isn't fair. On top of that HEM got way too dicey. He was saying some truly terrible stuff this summer completely unrelated to basketball and when he dug himself a nice hole, instead of just apologizing he just kept digging deeper until we got to the point we are at now. Where there are people who absolutely do not want him back and where he is probably at a point where he doesn't want to post on here anymore. But, it is not our fault that he said terrible things. It is his. And he never apologized for it. He would obviously be welcomed back, but he should be held just as responsible for what he says as everyone else on the site.

Dec 20, 2016 08:05 PM #20

@DoubleDD Ya know DD, I don't think it's as much about what HEM posts as how he likes to blow his own horn about it. So yeah he's a coach? Really? Wonder why he needs to mention that? It almost seems that is abrasive to some degree & may rub some rats the way at times. While there are some items he definitely makes us think outside the box about, he does have a manner of challenge that is more aggressive than hesitant. I like that he contributes much more than afterthoughts. His posts are far more proactive as reactive & really I miss the quality of his technical knowledge, coach or not. Also agree with Matt, that he often would not just continue to disagree, but continue to sharpen the tongue as the exchanges advanced & lately seemed to show much less of a level of civility that he displayed in years passed. We all change as we get older, & sometimes it's hard to recognize that even when staring in the mirror. I have days now when the wife just wants to lock me up & duct tape my yap - & would prob be beneficial on occasion too.

Dec 20, 2016 08:12 PM #21

@Kcmatt7

Without getting too detailed (unless you want to) what was he going off about this summer?

Dec 20, 2016 08:50 PM #22

I realize HEM posted with a level of aggression. He definitely didn't follow laws of PC.

I come from an upbringing where there were a lot of people around me that would parse communications in rough ways and usually you could never win a disagreement or whatever. I learned early to have a filter and not take many things personally. I try to dig through everything and pick out the gems. HEM offered plenty of gems and he spent the time and energy to develop his ideas well. And he does know a lot about the game including things that are not picked up without playing or coaching.

What makes this site magic is the level of diversity. HEM was/is a definite piece of that diversity, like him or not. I miss his long threads that were packed with interesting info and would spark very long, in-depth conversations.

HEM is committed to his participation. He would write extremely long posts that required plenty of thinking, typing, etc. Because of that, he might stop posting if he feels like no one is getting anything out of his posts.

I know I vote for tolerance. I even like to read @elpoyo and his/her "slap in the face" posts. Bring it on!

Dec 20, 2016 09:12 PM #23

@Kcmatt7

I know from reading a lot of your posts you're a pretty cool KU cat. Yet lets be honest last summer or year this site was rocking with so many points of views it was hard to keep track. So many were coming out of the woodwork. Maybe some trolls and maybe some not so much. Yet the honest truth was this site and it's stalwarts were not ready for so many different views of KU basketball. So much that it damn near killed this site completely. Remember it got so bad @approxinfinity created a whole another section for the so called dark siders trying to appease everyone.

If this site was run on money? Last summer or year would have been a money maker. This year not so much. Look I locked horns with HEM more than once, but I never took it personal. Besides we all Know it's hard to admit we are wrong.

Just saying I kind of like that different point of view. Sometimes it's hard to get engaged when everybody agrees with you. When everybody agrees it can create a false impression. Sometimes a loss can wake a KU team up. Well sometimes a poster posting that Coach and KU isn't all that and a bag of Doritos is what us fans need.

But I understand.

Dec 21, 2016 03:02 AM #24

@DoubleDD HEM is with out a doubt, one of our most valued, knowledgeable, & thought provoking & consistently excellent contributors. He is sorely needed here & he is missed immeasurably. My hope is that he & his family are well during this tremendously stressful time of year & that his absence is only by choice . Thanks for what you have freely given us HEM & please take care during our most joyous of seasons. Godspeed & stay in touch. If ya just want to bitch me out boss, rest assured ya ain't gonna be the first. I'm up for the task. If that's the worst I have coming I'm getting a helluva pass.

Dec 21, 2016 03:47 AM #25

I think it's funny you all think you can lure him back with flattery. He's a racist asshole.

Dec 21, 2016 04:05 AM #26

@DanR Now don't go trying all that flattery on him yourself....

Dec 21, 2016 04:19 AM #27

@DanR

I see what you are doing.... trying to motivate him from the other side of the fence. Well done!

We won't give up on HEM... he will return.

Maybe someone can try to contact him directly. It worked for me last year when I was recouping from an illness.

Dec 21, 2016 04:24 AM #28

@DanR Nothing even remotely about flattery when about our survival as a relevant message board.is at stake. If BS is all this is about then say what you like.

Dec 21, 2016 05:08 AM #29

@globaljaybird

Dec 21, 2016 07:54 AM #30

@globaljaybird

Thanks for trying, but I feel Hem maybe to stubborn to come back. To sad. As we both agree his insight is sorely missing. But hey it's all good. I would say we can just lock horns, but the damn thing is I agree with much of what you post.

Dec 21, 2016 03:25 PM #31

@DoubleDD I definitely wasn't going in that direction. HEM is pretty much the reason I came to this discussion board. But if you take a look at what he's doing now on Twitter (and elsewhere apparently) I don't think his mind is on KU hoops right now...

Dec 21, 2016 04:01 PM #32

@MoonwalkMafia wish I wouldn't have looked at his twitter after you said that...

Dec 21, 2016 04:04 PM #33

@MoonwalkMafia

It might be surprising to some, but there are many old dogs on this site (like me) that don't tweet. Can you give us a clue? Politics?

Dec 21, 2016 04:05 PM #34

@drgnslayr https://twitter.com/HighEliteMajor ↗

Short answer, yes.

Dec 21, 2016 04:10 PM #35

@MoonwalkMafia

Oh my.... It makes me think he may come back here eventually. Going so deep into politics tends to wear down the soul.... unless there is money to be made (joke).

Dec 21, 2016 04:47 PM #36

@drgnslayr you are not that old! My kids set me up.

Dec 21, 2016 04:49 PM #37

@Crimsonorblue22

Thanks for the Christmas gift! Sure beats cufflinks!

Dec 21, 2016 05:30 PM #38

I prefer the HEM that posted about KU. I hope he returns one day, loved the post game day talks. It's like you needed all day to read his posts and think of some half intelligent response, half the time that wasn't going to cut it either.

Dec 21, 2016 05:32 PM #39

@BShark

I didn't read half of it when it was going on but if memory serves correct it had to do with sexual preference..I could be wrong. It wasn't KU related that's for sure

Dec 21, 2016 07:16 PM #40

Good afternoon everyone. I appreciate the posts and those that have reached out to me elsewhere. I've just been very engaged in politics since summer, most of it unrelated to any HEM accounts I have (which I will keep very secret from my basketball friends as well as those that don't call me a friend). The reality was that I was very much in "election mode." Nothing good comes from that. The discussions here are for KU basketball and not (generally) politics. I didn't want to contribute to a deterioration of KU hoops discussions (at least not any more than normal).

Suffice it to say, I felt -- knowing myself -- that it was better for me to disengage here while my mind was much more focused elsewhere.

Screw politics. Hard to get any enjoyment there.

That said, my mind is clearing a bit. I've been following KU hoops just like normal, just not posting or taking notes during games (my wife prefers that). Enjoying the ride, so to speak.

I"ll get back in the flow soon.

And thank you again to those that have reached out. Very much appreciated. Even got contact from a handful that said they don't post here, but just read. One called himself a "lurker." Very cool.

Dec 21, 2016 07:36 PM #41

@HighEliteMajor

Glad to see you back posting!

Dec 21, 2016 09:08 PM #42

My guess is there are a lot of lurkers out here.

Welcome back, HEM!

I always enjoy reading your posts.

Dec 21, 2016 10:08 PM #43

@HighEliteMajor Welcome back man. Hope you're enjoying this year's "fools gold" as much as we are.

Dec 22, 2016 03:11 PM #44

@HighEliteMajor

Best to not post about politics iyam, never ends well because everyone is set in their opinions.

Oh and welcome back.

Dec 22, 2016 10:59 PM #45

@MoonwalkMafia

Ack, wish I hadn't gone there. Oh well, hopefully he sticks to sharing his great insights on basketball and leaves the politics on Twitter

Dec 23, 2016 12:33 AM #46

I looked at the twitter link someone posted above, and the political threads and rants have a level of fire beyond sports, as that political stuff truly could affect our lives more directly than sports (think taxes, healthcare, soc.sec, foreign policy...). Because of the level of convictions people hold politically, its truly an exercise in futility to try to prove the opposing side "wrong". Not very rewarding. Humans find solace in agreement with like-minded folks, we may be wired that way, who knows...So, there is little satisfaction in sparring with opposites...they'll still hold to their beliefs.

Most of HEMs beliefs about things outside of ku bball are easily decipherable due to his direct style. Someone more guarded may purposely stay neutral in their commentary, so as not to offend or derail a thread.

Ive often thought our KU bball discussion may dry up, as we all oughtta know Self's mantras cold by now. But wouldnt have guessed, but Self himSelf throws us the new wrinkle by going 4+1. I guess the true test is what does he play vs Big12 foes, which we know he gets deadly serious about?

Dec 23, 2016 12:40 AM #47

Another war analogy: To me, sparring with political opposites is like the Eastern Front in WW2 (Germany vs Russia)-- a titanic struggle of millions vs millions, a clash of ideologies, and the little minions (each individual) just didnt matter, died like mice, due to decisions at the Supreme Command level.

Our personal ideas individually arent the ones that matter. I personally dont kid myself about that.

Dec 24, 2016 01:17 AM #48

I think we should stick to the topic we all agree about 100 percent of the time. Of course by that I mean we hate Duke! Welcome back Mr. HEM!

Dec 24, 2016 01:30 AM #49

@wissox You got that right! Merry Christmas to you and yours! :christmas_tree:

Looking forward to meeting you in February. Wish you could have met my husband then. :broken_heart:

I believe he will bring our team good luck the rest of the season.

Dec 24, 2016 03:36 AM #50

@RockChalkinTexas Yeah, February will be fun.
