Kansas is still playing football believe it or not. They will be at home for the final time this Saturday to take on the Shorthorns of Texas, at 2:30 on espn. Texas is a team that we haven't beat since 1935 ( got raped in 05 and 12). Texas has the best athletes in the conference and always has a top ten recruiting class but have failed to really put it together with Charlie Strong at the helm. They are lead by a Freshman QB in Shane Buechele, who has put up decent numbers and I think will grow into a solid player. Their strength matches our weakness in running the ball, their top RB Foreman already has over 1600 yards on the year and could get to 2,00o Saturday on our weak run defense, Defensively they have struggled mightily and give up 33 points a game. Texas has came in with no pulse the last few trips to Lawrence hopefully that trend continues and we can finally make them pay for it. The key to me is the offense has to continue making progress under Stanley. We cant abandon the run like last week, we have to keep their defense on the field to have a chance Saturday. Texas 35 Kansas 16 RCJH

Texas has 5 losses this season - the worst by 18 pts, the others by 7, 5, 3 & 4. Four of those losses were on the road. They're on the road vs KU, but it's not going to matter. They have the best running back in the league (if not the country) and he will have 250 yds and 5 td's against us. Final score : 58-14.

Nov 18, 2016 03:09 AM #3

@nuleafjhawk 14 pretty generous huh? Up from 1?

Nov 18, 2016 03:11 AM #4

@Crimsonorblue22 They're getting better. Plus, it's a home game. Plus it's basketball season and me, you and @kjayhawks are the only ones looking at football stuff. lol

I'm offended by that remark! I need a safe space now!

Nov 18, 2016 03:38 AM #6

@kjayhawks The game is actually going to be on ABC for whatever reason in Big 12 country and ESPN2 for everyone else.

Nov 18, 2016 03:40 AM #7

Kansas has put a couple of scares into UT in recent history. What the hell, I'll pull the trigger and say KU pulls the upset 28-27 because UT misses a 48 yard FG to win the game.

Nov 18, 2016 03:47 AM #8

@Texas-Hawk-10

May I offer you some Jayhawks coloring books and crimson and blue crayons?

Nov 18, 2016 12:40 PM #9

OK, after a sleepless night thinking about KU football, I've revised my prediction. Texas 66 - KU 43. All of the factors listed above, but I forgot that Texas' defense really isn't very good. But they can move the ball.....

Nov 18, 2016 01:27 PM #10

@nuleafjhawk you have gone crazy!πŸ˜‰

Nov 18, 2016 02:40 PM #11

@nuleafjhawk Are you okay? both of your predictions are less than the usual 80 point loss lol

Nov 18, 2016 02:52 PM #12

Oh, I'm still paying attention to KU football. Most of the time, I wonder why. Despite our failures and struggles, it's D1 football, which I love. Our defense must play better against Texas. I sure like the play of Mike Lee and the other defensive backs. Mike Lee should be another KU Aquib Talib and Chris Harris type contribution to the NFL. Boy, do we need a D1 quarterback. I assume Stanley starts again. OK, cross my fingers- KU 32, Texas 30. RCJH

Nov 18, 2016 02:57 PM #13

@stoptheflop did you read kusports today? We have one visiting

Nov 18, 2016 03:41 PM #14

@kjayhawks lol - well, it was kind of fun to make the stupid predictions, a little bit of that is out of pure frustration - i desperately want us to be good in football, but i really do believe that we're showing improvements and may be ok in a few years.

Nov 18, 2016 03:52 PM #15

KU plays tough, but ultimately just can't stop the run.

38-28 loss.

Nov 18, 2016 03:58 PM #16

@Crimsonorblue22 I'm going to reserve thought and judgment on all quarterbacks until I see them play.Before the season, I thought Ryan Willis was going to have a great year this year. But, one hundred turnovers proved me wrong.

Nov 18, 2016 06:02 PM #17

The offensive line has looked alot better the last few weeks, fewer sacks and better running lanes for our backs. If we just had a QB i think it would make a big difference. We do have a transfer from Washington State visiting this weekend as @Crimsonorblue22 said. We also have that bama transfer for next year so I looking for vast improvement this offseason.

Nov 18, 2016 11:00 PM #18

I'm predicting a win guys. UT in sub 50 degree weather always struggles.... Them boys don't like the cold and always get a slow start in Lawrence.

Beaty is due for a win. I do think he works hard. And at some point hard work is due to pay off. This was the game I looked at on the schedule as a possible win.

Recipe for a win if you ask me. We got a taste of what a real win might feel like last week. We can feast on a freshmen QB and load the box. If we lose, lets lose playing M2M with them throwing the ball. Don't let them do what they do well. Force them to out talent us.

As for us being able to score more points than them, defense is going to have to put up at least one TD and special teams needs to not suck for one whole game.

Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while. Let's get ours tomorrow.

Nov 18, 2016 11:06 PM #19

Thanks to the 10 or so fans who are interested enough or brave enough to post here about KU football. I enjoyed the Iowa State game until the last 10 minutes of the game. I guess that's something. We will see today if we have a defense that's still improving or a defense that is just going through the motions. Iowa State has a solid offense and it took over the game in the second half last week. I hope our defense brings speed, good tackling and emotion to the Longhorns today. RCJH

Nov 19, 2016 03:19 PM #22

@Crimsonorblue22 ya I saw he is visiting - - - - -not impressed. when he was playing in limited action against D-1 competition he TD- INT ratio NOT GOOD. ya he did ok in Juco - - - that was Juco, but hope he enjoys his visit.

I STILL say our future QB is red shirting this year, our dual threat QB, bottom line our QB spot is a mess, although Carter has done ok, maybe he could really help down the line - -just got to be or red shirt - -I have a vison lmao - -yes it's him

As far as a prediction? - - - YIKES afraid it's going to be ugly like 48-7, man we have some pieces on Defense -- Lee, Armstong, our other D-Lineman his name escapes me we have some nice receivers, some decent RB'S, there will come a day - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Nov 19, 2016 07:31 PM #23

@jayballer54 We just have to get who we can and do the best we can. I think the ship has sailed on Cozart. But I'm not sure on Willis , he just doesn't look as good as he did last year no telling how far back that wrist sent him. Stanley is similar to Cozart in the aspect that he cant throw the long ball. Hopefully the Starks kid is really benefiting from his red shirt year and developing into what Beaty wants under center.

Lol Charlie isn't even going to come out of that locker room as the head coach.

Nov 19, 2016 10:14 PM #56

Yep. Honestly all year they have been mostly great especially considering how the offense is not good at ball control/playing slow.

@kjayhawks O is going to have to score one way or another.

Have we ran a trick play all year?

Nov 19, 2016 10:46 PM #64

Far side bubbles don't work when your QB doesn't have a strong enough arm... Drives me freaking crazy

Nov 19, 2016 10:48 PM #65

When you put in a reverse, you HAVE to also practice him throwing the ball away if he gets in trouble...

Nov 19, 2016 10:49 PM #66

Nov 19, 2016 10:49 PM #67

@Crimsonorblue22 lol.

Nov 19, 2016 10:50 PM #68

@Kcmatt7 I'd put in Willis, he has the best arm strength to test them down the field if the defense doesn't get more TOs we will end up getting smoked by 20

Nov 19, 2016 10:51 PM #69

@kjayhawks said:

There is clearly some kind of rift between the coaches and Willis. I bet he transfers.

Nov 19, 2016 10:53 PM #70

@kjayhawks or just tell Stanley to say F--- it and start letting it rip. Either way, at some point our coaches have to let one of these QBs go win a game and call vertical plays. A pick 30 yards down the field is as good as our punter...

Nov 19, 2016 10:55 PM #71

Punting advantage: UT, by a lot.

Nov 19, 2016 10:56 PM #72

@Kcmatt7 Yes, you have to do something besides a double reverse, which lost 13 yards lol. WR pass heck anything down the field

Nov 19, 2016 10:56 PM #73

@BShark Ya bet he does aswell which stinks but maybe it don't matter

Nov 19, 2016 10:57 PM #74

@kjayhawks said:

Hard for any QB to be good with this oline tbf. And Willis is a pocket passer. If he does transfer, I wish him the best and I hope it's to a good situation/offensive scheme for him.

Nov 19, 2016 10:58 PM #75

@kjayhawks I'd love to see a flea flicker or a wildcat set or a hook and latter or really anything that is telling me we are actually trying to score. Nobody can cover Sims 1v1, throw 3 straight bombs to him and see what happens. Idc, but lets change what has scored us 0 points so far

Nov 19, 2016 10:59 PM #76

Missed easy throw there. Have to pull him he's the same as Cozart cant throw it more than 6 yards

Nov 19, 2016 10:59 PM #77

@BShark He's a D2 QB. Someone will be happy to get him probably. But he is definitely not a P5 caliber QB.

Nov 19, 2016 11:01 PM #78

I give props to Bowen id be in beatys face about this piss poor offense. With an Average O we have 3 or 4 wins

Nov 19, 2016 11:02 PM #79

@kjayhawks said:

Considering how long UT went between good QBs (I do think this FR for them will be great in the future) I don't hold out a ton of hope for KU at the position.

Also, everything is frustrating when the team is so bad but I really don't feel like KU's offensive scheme is a way to be successful with a talent disadvantage. It's so dependent on having a good QB and doesn't shorten the game at all.

I hope Quv doesn't play again terrible terrible he has killed all year!! Drops wide open TD vs TCU and muffs 2 punts vs OHIO, NEVER NEVER should he see the F**kin field.

Nov 19, 2016 11:14 PM #87

Honestly, the more I watch, the more I can see Beaty not making it all the way through next season.

A team trying to claw themselves out of this hole can't afford mistakes. Our players have to be so disciplined it is absurd. I'm talking military school disciplined. We shouldn't fumble. We shouldn't have unsportsmanlike penalties. We shouldn't ever false start. We should do everything perfect.

That Quiv fumble is the perfect example of Beaty not having these guys playing disciplined football. We used to RIP guys for fumbling the ball when I coached. It is your fault if you fumbled. It isn't the defender who made a great play, because if you carry the football correctly then they never have the opportunity to make that play.

I'm tired of watching us do stupid things that are 100% in our control.

Nov 19, 2016 11:15 PM #88

@Kcmatt7 Ya when you cant make plays that 5th graders can, what do you do at practice? Drinking beer?

Nov 19, 2016 11:17 PM #89

@kjayhawks I honestly can't tell what we practice. We haven't added anything to our offensive game all season. It is literally same shit different day. It almost seems like they must practice against air and Beaty is sitting back there like "man I can't believe this doesn't work in the game. We can't get touched in practice."

Nov 19, 2016 11:18 PM #90

He just isn't a very good coach. HOWEVER the program needs a bit of continuity atm, and he is bringing in some more talent. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think we do need to see some non-FCS wins next year though.

@Kcmatt7 said:

The scheme is too simple. It's based on having more talent than your opponent.

Nov 19, 2016 11:24 PM #91

@Kcmatt7 I believe in giving a guy 3 years because of the state the program is in but if we don't win atleast 3 maybe 4 next year id pull the trigger. At this point with how much better the Defense looks we made a mistake not naming Bowen HC.

Nov 19, 2016 11:24 PM #92

@BShark Oh I don't want him fired quite yet. I want him to fill the roster and see if he can recruit a talented OC. If he can do that, he can coast for a bit. A head coaches job isn't to coach. It is to put talent around himself and organize it in a way that allow those coaches to coach the talent you put in front of them.

But I do agree the system is too simple. We need to implement a very intricate run game and nab ourselves a dual threat QB (could be Starks). There are so many different options you can do in college football that keeps the D off balance without ever even having to throw the ball.

This season we haven't ran:
- Inverted Veer
- Jet Sweep
- Midline Option
- Veer

We have almost no motion plays (notice how the reverse today we did and the defense picked up on it immediately because we never do it so it was a dead giveaway), we never put two backs in the backfield, our TE is ALWAYS on the line on the strong side, we don't run 2 TE sets, etc etc etc.

This is a middle school offense. We need to bring on a solid OC in the worst way.

Nov 19, 2016 11:27 PM #93

@Kcmatt7

Oldballz (Snyder) football basically. I agree. It's smart. Especially when you are disadvantaged in terms of talent you can play slow and shorten the game. OB has been doing this for years and it makes KSU look better than they are. Also it's way easier to find a QB that can run than an elite passer.

Nov 19, 2016 11:27 PM #94

@Kcmatt7 Yes SZ must tell him he'll be fired immediately if he doesn't hire an OC this off season.

I'm giving this weekend an A+ for KU athletics.

Nov 20, 2016 12:23 AM #144

Smart and Strong was too good to last.

Nov 20, 2016 12:24 AM #145

So happy for seniors!!!

Nov 20, 2016 12:24 AM #146

What a great win for our Seniors. Those guys suffered through an awful lot.

Nov 20, 2016 12:25 AM #147

@Crimsonorblue22 Happy for the underclassmen too! Something big to build on and be positive about all off season

Nov 20, 2016 12:25 AM #148

Yes Yes I love these players playing hard every week

Nov 20, 2016 12:25 AM #149

Must really suck to be Texas now!😳😭

Nov 20, 2016 12:25 AM #150

Can you imagine a UT football forum rn?

Texas didn't just lose to Kansas. It blew a 21-10 lead in a little more than half a quarter. With the best RB in CFB this season.

I laughed.

Nov 20, 2016 12:27 AM #152

Coach Beaty is really emotional in his TV interview. I can't imagine how hard this season has been for him and our football jayhawks.

Nov 20, 2016 12:28 AM #153

@stoptheflop I was nearly crying when it went in

Nov 20, 2016 12:28 AM #154

Glad we have that Longhorn Network. No pressure, Shaka.

Nov 20, 2016 12:29 AM #155

@stoptheflop I always wondered what it was like for his wife.

Nov 20, 2016 12:30 AM #156

Nov 20, 2016 12:33 AM #158

Glad we got those 2 extra pts

Nov 20, 2016 12:34 AM #159

Nov 20, 2016 12:39 AM #164

94 tackles. 94. That is all.

Nov 20, 2016 12:42 AM #165

Ok, I'll be the first here to condemn the removal of the goal posts. It's an important win to build on, but there's no need to embarrass ourselves. Our football program has a rich history of success. I'd like to think our fans have a better sense of our successful history. RCJH

Nov 20, 2016 12:42 AM #166

it actually was 1938 the last win vs Texas no 1935 lol my bad

Nov 20, 2016 12:43 AM #167

I feel like this game was the perfect death for Texas football. They have been slain. Then burned to the ground. No doubt they will rise from the ashes but as of right now, death.

Nov 20, 2016 12:43 AM #169

@kjayhawks no kidding?

Nov 20, 2016 12:46 AM #170

This is surreal.

Nov 20, 2016 12:48 AM #171

@Kcmatt7 Nice call Matt. The cold weather very well may have affected the Texas players. RCJH

@Kcmatt7 said in Prediction Time:

@Texas-Hawk-10 Good call buddy and yes for the better of KU football lol

Nov 20, 2016 02:05 AM #183

@Texas-Hawk-10 If that's what it takes-yes please. JK We played poorly, but Texas played worse. 6 turnovers by Texas, the last was an interception by Mike Lee in overtime. Finally, finally, finally.

Nov 20, 2016 03:32 AM #184

@stoptheflop that's where all the pre and post game stuff is.

Nov 20, 2016 03:35 AM #185

Nov 20, 2016 03:10 PM #188

@Crimsonorblue22 Was what me? The 250 yards thing? Yeah, I said 250 yards and 5 TD's. I'm glad i missed that one.

Nov 20, 2016 03:14 PM #189

Texas sooooo bad. KSU will probably kill us, but I don't really care.
