Of course but you know it's going to one of the newcomers. Lol

Tying the all-time conference title streak and running away for the 13th with 2 other top 10 ranked teams should automatically qualify him for COY.

I think we've beat 4 top 5 teams

Feb 18, 2017 11:55 PM #6

@Blown in typical KU fan style, never satisfied, I'll ask the question... Why not national coach of the year?

Feb 19, 2017 12:54 AM #7

@approxinfinity he will be NCOY.

Feb 19, 2017 12:56 AM #8

Would have loved to have seen the evolution of this years team with Doke. Or, at least Bragg playing to his projected ceiling.

Feb 19, 2017 01:11 AM #9

There's not really a surprise team this year so I think Self will definitely be in the mix for NCOY. Right now though, I think Mark Few is probably the front runner for NCOY because of the undefeated season so far. I don't care if the WCC is weak as heck after St. Mary's and BYU, they also beat Arizona, Iowa St., and Florida this year as well so they've got quality wins this year.

Obviously, Self gets my vote with my bias, but I wouldn't feel like Self got cheated of Few won it either though.

@Texas-Hawk-10 how many tourney teams has he beat besides the 5 you listed ?

Self winning 13 in a row with a 6 man roster, matching one of the greatest coaches of all time in the second strongest conference--& winning this year by several games and beating UK at home and Duke on neutral court along the way seems like the best resume for NCOY of the year.

Few takes the zags to the FF and self doesn't I would agree he would be the front runner.

@Blown The voting is done between the conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament. It's not easy to go 31-0 regardless of conference affiliation and why it's only happened a handful of times since the Wooden era.

Feb 19, 2017 02:08 AM #12

@Texas-Hawk-10 also I think I was wrong in the UCLA streak was with 3 coaches, wasn't it? Not just wooden.

Feb 19, 2017 02:11 AM #13

Agree also that it's not easy to win 31-0.

Feb 19, 2017 02:21 AM #14

I noticed the line on the Zags game today was Zags -29. We're playing the number 1 ranked team on RPI, and they're playing the 233rd ranked RPI team. Gonzaga is 11-0 against teams ranked 200 or higher, while we've only played 1 team ranked 200+. Still, they do have a few good pre conference wins, including a win over an Arizona team missing their point guard. I wonder what Bill's record would be in the WCC.

Feb 19, 2017 02:25 AM #15

Did Marshall win it when WSU went undefeated?

Feb 19, 2017 02:26 AM #16

Zags SOS is 72. Kansas is 11.

Feb 19, 2017 02:31 AM #17

@chriz yes as did Calipari in 2015.

Feb 19, 2017 02:32 AM #18

@KUSTEVE actually, Trier and Cartwright were both out that game

Correct. 2 other coaches after Wooden.

Unsurprisingly, Medcalf just wrote an article basically claiming that KU is a one man team with Mason - even said they would be a bubble team without him. I don't even know why I bother to read his stuff. Plain ridiculous

Feb 19, 2017 03:03 AM #21

@HawkChamp That freshman Jackson must be on another team. Interestingly, he is so good he will get POY votes, which could hurt FM's totals if people split between the two.

Feb 19, 2017 03:06 AM #22

Even w Tharpe as point this team was never a bubble team

@Crimsonorblue22 we have and out of the 3 losses 2 of have been to teams that are/were ranked in the top 20

Correct. In my book, they didn't actually beat Arizona. It's still a good win though.

They also beat Florida (this win looks really good now), ISU (only by 2...) and well....that's basically it! The rest of their schedule is a complete joke.

Feb 19, 2017 03:24 PM #26

@Crimsonorblue22 I'll make it easier for us bums.

@Crimsonorblue22 I just took a screen shot. I get lazy about clicking on links sometimes

Feb 19, 2017 06:48 PM #29

@mayjay

Not only that but they did it while playing In 3 conferences not just one like KU.
