Just a few hours away from tip.

Streaming some of the early action at work. Really interested in the UNC Wilmington/Virginia game.
Two Contrasting styles of play. Wilmington likes to get up and down the court, Virginia will put you to sleep if your not paying attention and we all know their defense prowess. UNC W played Duke tough last year but couldn't play enough defense to win. Virginia doesn't score so unless they have a breakout game I expect this could be an upset. The coach of UNC W is playing for a new job, expect his group to be ready to go.

What other games is everyone excited for today- besides all of them?

Mar 16, 2017 03:03 PM #2

@BeddieKU23 I'm up for any huge upset that improves KU's chances down the road!

Mar 16, 2017 03:14 PM #3

@ParisHawk

Then we should be rooting for Nevada in the late game tonight. I don't think UVM can beat Purdue but we've seen crazier things happen.

Mar 16, 2017 03:15 PM #4

The 1 and 2 seed games usually are blow outs, of course not always. I tend to look for anything that may help my bracket, KU, and Big 12 teams or old KU coaches. So today I will be very intrigued to watch

  1. Iowa State
    a. Big 12 team
    b. Directly impacts KU
  2. West Virginia
    a. Big 12 team
  3. FGCU
    a. Coach Dooley
    b. Coach Miles
  4. Purdue
    a. Directly impacts KU

Also did anyone notice that ALL 5 vs 12 seed games are on today? That has to be intentional, 12 seeds are 10-10 over the last 5 years, that should be fun

Mar 16, 2017 04:08 PM #5

@BeddieKU23 Wanting to keep up with the West Virginia game and then of course the Iowa State game tonight, then others might be the Florida vs East Tenn St. MAYBE Maryland vs Xavier those would be the main one's - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

These came in just for the start of the tourney!!!

@HawkInMizery

Those are soooooooo sweet! Where did you get them?

Mar 16, 2017 04:21 PM #8

@tis4tim right????? i got them as a graduation present. http://www.opckicks.com/store/p188/rockchalknikes ↗

Congrats on your graduation! If I got something like that as a gift, I'd probably never wear them as I'd hate to get them dirty!

Mar 16, 2017 04:38 PM #10

@tis4tim Thank you!!!!! Fortunately they scratch/crack proof them and waterproof them. I'll probably never wear them outside of when the Jayhawks are playing. they'lll never be everyday shoes.

Mar 16, 2017 04:41 PM #11

First game is blah. ND struggling and Princeton's offense consists of jacking up guarded threes.

Mar 16, 2017 04:43 PM #12

Don't know if this was already posted, kinda funny

Mar 16, 2017 04:44 PM #13

@BShark

Definitely hasn't opened up yet. I bet it does towards the end of half early 2nd though once teams get jitters out of the way. The 436 timeouts should help the coaches yell at them until they do

Mar 16, 2017 04:44 PM #14

@BeddieKU23

I'd complain about all the breaks, but I think it favours this KU team and the lack of depth.

Mar 16, 2017 04:46 PM #15

big fan of this announcing crew though. madness we always get the best. much better than ESPN's dog crew

Mar 16, 2017 04:46 PM #16

UNCW UVA has tipped off. UNCW coach could be on to a bigger job after this year.

Mar 16, 2017 04:47 PM #17

@BeddieKU23

Agree. Pretty much garbage free!

Mar 16, 2017 04:49 PM #18

@BShark

I want UNCW to win, felt they got Duke ref'd last yr big time.. Let's see if they can take down a diff ACC squad

Shocker....

Too bad he didn't have any recruits. Then again, Ill and and UW firings already opened up a ton of players. I just hope Harris doesn't reopen and then quickly decide. KU chasing Duval could be a killer.

Mar 16, 2017 04:51 PM #21

long range bomb for UNCW!!!

@BShark

KU's new recruiting motto "poaching the coaching carousel"

Mar 16, 2017 04:54 PM #23

I'd give anything to have Cacok- 79% shooter on 224 shots! Yeah 79%.

Lol at a track meet favouring the mid major and not the P5 team but I think the announcer is right...

Mar 16, 2017 04:58 PM #27

Virginia's offense in a nutshell. Bring the ball up the court, dribble for 20 seconds, pass once, shoot. If option A isn't available- crap

Mar 16, 2017 05:00 PM #28

@BeddieKU23

And people wonder why I wouldn't want Bennett as the next KU coach. HARD PASS.

Mar 16, 2017 05:04 PM #29

Overseeded UVA getting demolished. ACC! ACC! ACC!

Who do they think they are playing against, KU?

Mar 16, 2017 05:07 PM #33

@BShark

don't tell them. haha

Mar 16, 2017 05:07 PM #34

@BShark

No I didn't see that article you linked to on CBS, but did see this crappy one ↗ about us. Grrrr. I almost created an account to log in just to say "Bite me.." It will be so nice finally shut up all the naysayers.

(but we will so have to eat crow for years to come if we flame out early again this year. Please, please, please Basketball Gods, don't let us flame out early this year. Tell me what it will take to appease you - I could sacrifice one of my Misery neighbors flags to you in offering, I could buy Adidas instead of Nike's next time I need tennies, you could even make us suck next year if you absolutely had to, just let us make the FF at least)

Mar 16, 2017 05:08 PM #35

I had to check, I do have UNCW advancing here (then losing to UF).

Mar 16, 2017 05:09 PM #36

@BShark

Nice pick but you should have kept it going, this team can beat Florida. I picked them to the 16

Mar 16, 2017 05:11 PM #37

@BeddieKU23

They definitely can, but I chickened out. Florida basically had one really good stretch this year and it's been over for a bit now.

Mar 16, 2017 05:12 PM #38

@BShark

They lost a lot of their identity without Egbunu in the post. KU couldn't replace Landen Lucas if it had too, hard to expect the Gators to replace similar important talent

Mar 16, 2017 05:13 PM #39

okay the UNCW guards are EN FUEGO

Mar 16, 2017 05:16 PM #40

Mar 16, 2017 05:29 PM #46

wow UNCW fell apart there. Hero ball don't win games.. need to regroup

Mar 16, 2017 05:50 PM #47

I bet MU is wishing it had waited one more day so it could have taken a stab at Crean. On the other hand, how bad is the MU program that they had to so grossly overpay and give a long term contract to an average (at best) coach?

Mar 16, 2017 05:51 PM #48

@JayHawkFanToo

Going to end up with a better recruiting class with Martin than Crean would have done imo. I mean, we will never know. Neither is a great coach really.

Mar 16, 2017 05:53 PM #49

@BShark

Crean >>> Martin...not even close.

Mar 16, 2017 05:55 PM #50

@JayHawkFanToo

Their winning percentage is identical.

Mar 16, 2017 05:55 PM #51

@HawkInMizery

Super Cool shoes. Is that a Nike Swoosh?

Mar 16, 2017 05:57 PM #52

Mar 16, 2017 05:57 PM #53

Wait tied, I thought that was a three for a sec

Mar 16, 2017 05:57 PM #54

Now they did!

Mar 16, 2017 05:57 PM #55

Princeton hanging tough with Notre Dame..

Mar 16, 2017 05:58 PM #56

@BShark

yes Bryce finally came alive. in that 1st half I don't think either of their leading scorers scored and they were up 15 at one point.

Mar 16, 2017 05:58 PM #57

@BeddieKU23

Not sure they can turn the corner, but at least the Donkey is sweating.

Mar 16, 2017 05:59 PM #58

@BShark

His first 3 seasons at Indiana lowered his percentage quite a bit from what he had at Marquette and where he built his reputation. I would take him any time over Martin.

Mar 16, 2017 05:59 PM #59

@JayHawkFanToo

At the end of the day, neither has done much of anything. Crean had a fortunate run with DWade. Give Cuonzo a DWade and he probably makes a run.

Mar 16, 2017 06:00 PM #60

Crean's non-DWade ceiling appears to be the S16.

Mar 16, 2017 06:01 PM #61

@BShark

Martin has had plenty of talent and has not much to show for it. Even with lottery pick Rabb and good support players they just got booted out of the NIT in the first game.

Mar 16, 2017 06:02 PM #62

@JayHawkFanToo

We will see what Rabb really ends up being. DWade is a hofer.

Mar 16, 2017 06:02 PM #63

I don't think even Self has had a hofer. Maybe Embiid has the potential if he stays healthy.

Mar 16, 2017 06:03 PM #64

rabb strikes me as a Ed Davis type..

Mar 16, 2017 06:04 PM #65

really that was a shooting foul??

since when is battling for an offensive rebound without getting it a shooting foul?

Mar 16, 2017 06:05 PM #66

LOL GONZAGA

Mar 16, 2017 06:24 PM #76

Mar 16, 2017 06:25 PM #77

I have West Virginia advancing to the Sweet Sixteen so I thought I'd take a chance with Princeton. It was a fun game, I can't be mad.

Mar 16, 2017 06:28 PM #78

@BShark Let Gonzaga be the FIRST 1 seed to lose to a 16!

Mar 16, 2017 06:32 PM #79

UNCW's leading scorer is 2-10 from the field and 2-6 from the FT line yeah that sums it up

Mar 16, 2017 06:32 PM #80

According to CBS UNC won the title back in 2008. Guess we better take down the banner.

Mar 16, 2017 06:36 PM #81

nobody wants to score in this Zaga game..

Mar 16, 2017 06:39 PM #84

@BShark

the best player in the game plays for SDSU. Not surprised they are playing well but winning this late in the 1st half. oh boy

Goodbye UNCW.

Mar 16, 2017 07:00 PM #88

UVA, ND, a few close games so far, but no upsets. Hope that non-upset thing holds for a while for a certain #1 seed that I'm quite fond of

Mar 16, 2017 07:02 PM #89

some dude named Nana has 7 points for Bucknell already

Mar 16, 2017 07:18 PM #90

West Virginia having no problem today.

Mar 16, 2017 07:24 PM #91

Assuming WVU wins this game, I'm curious to see how the game is called when they play Notre Dame. If the game is called tight then WVU is probably going to lose because ND is the best free throw shooting team in the country. Since Notre Dame is Notre Dame, and is in the ACC, I can see them shooting about 40 free throws against WVU.

Mar 16, 2017 07:31 PM #92

@KirkIsMyHinrich

I look at the game a little differently if they meet. The press will be hard to prepare for in 1 day. Notre Dame only starts 1 true ball handler, the rest of their lineup is full of wings and an undersized 5. They don't turn the ball over much (only 9) a game but nobody outside of the Big-12 is prepared for the pressure WVU puts on you for 40 minutes. This could be a game where ND is up early because they are the better offensive team but one that WV wears them down as it goes on

Mar 16, 2017 07:33 PM #93

as usual almost everyone with a pulse for West Virginia has a foul. Went up 27-12, game of runs puts Bucknell within 6 at 33-27.

Mar 16, 2017 07:41 PM #94

@BeddieKU23 That's what I mean, though. Notre Dame's ability to handle the press will be largely determined by how the officials decide to blow the whistle. If the game is called tight it will take a lot of pressure off of ND's guards and mitigate a major strength of West Virginia's. It will also allow the best free throw shooting team in the country to get to the line frequently. If the officials let them play a little bit, I like West Virginia to win the game.

As I write this, though, WVU only leads by 3. Need to win this game first.

Mar 16, 2017 07:43 PM #95

Bucknell FIGHTIN, CLAWIN

Mar 16, 2017 07:44 PM #96

Bucknell's center is good, he'd probably start for us.

Mar 16, 2017 08:28 PM #97

@JayHawkFanToo yup! the company orders base nikes and them paints on them and adds different facbric to them. They're the Nike Roshe Runs

Mar 16, 2017 08:46 PM #98

I'm sorry, but Vanderbilt, you had Florida's number, granted, but who else did you beat on the way to a 19-15 record and a NCAA tournament bid? And a 9 seed at that. You lost by 20 at Missouri. You lost by 23 to Middle Tennessee. I have no animosity towards the alma mater of my very bright nephew who just graduated, but goodness, you have no business being in any postseason tournament other than the Not In Tournament tournament.

Mar 16, 2017 09:18 PM #99

Actually kind of wishing that Vandy would have been seeded where they belong, at about a 14 and they put them opposite Baylor and you'd have a Drew vs. Drew matchup.

Mar 16, 2017 09:50 PM #100

@JayHawkFanToo

As much as I hear Indiana fans complain about Crean, I don't know. I don't think Martin is great, but Crean isn't very good.

Mar 16, 2017 10:17 PM #101

Haha minnesota. HaHa idiot tournament committee who made the ground squirrels a 5 seed.

Mar 16, 2017 10:39 PM #102

Total mental lapse by vandy.. they deliberately fouled an 86% foul shooter with 18 seconds left up by 1. He sunk both. Then they launched a 3 from 10 feet behind the arc.

Mar 16, 2017 11:10 PM #103

@BeddieKU23 Cool thread!

SO! I am living in Vermont and the Catamounts of UVM are playing Purdue in 30 minutes....guess who I'm rooting for?
Its actually kind of cool. I mean, all the people I work with that follow basketball are excited that Vermont University got into the NCAA's this year. So, naturally I think its cool too. Small town Vermont school getting into the big dance? Cool right?
But, what if they beat Purdue tonight!? It would ruin one section of my bracket but WHOA that would be awesome!

Mar 16, 2017 11:40 PM #104

@Lulufulu I still remember when big Taylor Coppenrath and the Catamounts took down Syracuse in 2005. Epic!

Mar 16, 2017 11:42 PM #105

ACC/east coast team getting every call against Badgers

Mar 17, 2017 03:44 AM #112

@HawkInMizery

They look awesome but I would think Adidas might have a problem since they pay KU a lot of money for the rights to use the logo and the last thing they want to see is the KU logo on a Nike shoe.

Mar 17, 2017 03:57 AM #113

Looks like ISU will advance, Nevada can't buy a stop. Burton is killing them

Mar 17, 2017 04:03 AM #114

Bronson Koenig makes 8 three pointers bailing out Badgers. Nova next.

Mar 17, 2017 04:09 AM #115

@wissox maybe the refs were making up for the NCAA screwing Virginia Tech out of a tourney berth for the last decade (particular Delaney/Allen years). Between that, the decimating injuries year after year, and surviving the lackluster Greenberg offense and the unqualified James Johnson years, fate has not been kind to the Hokies for a long time. Finally, with Buzz the future looks bright.

Grats to your Badgers! Hayes was deadly down the stretch. 8-9 from the line for a 56% (?) FT shooter. Beast mode. Hope our guys respond in a similar way when they find themselves on the line with the game in the balance.

Mar 17, 2017 04:11 AM #116

Burton is a rascal. Nevada is pretty terrible on D though.

Best of luck.

Mar 17, 2017 04:12 AM #117

@approxinfinity I like Buzz too. He's a good coach and recruiter. They were tough. Nigel took over the game down the stretch. Yes FT's are another way this Badger team mirrors the Jayhawks.

Mar 17, 2017 04:14 AM #118

ISU looked really good for the most part, I thought Purdue was lucky. That could be a pretty interesting game.

Mar 17, 2017 04:18 AM #119

@kjayhawks

ISU is going to kill Purdue. @KirkIsMyHinrich doesn't know basketball very well. :kissing_heart:

Mar 17, 2017 04:47 AM #120

Was I the only one to hear the NU/ISU talking head mention that ISU had beat KU in AFH in Kansas City? Man, watching AFH being moved along the turnpike would've been worth paying to see.

Mar 17, 2017 04:48 AM #121

@brooksmd heard it too, played it back to make sure?💩

Mar 17, 2017 05:45 AM #122

@JayHawkFanToo you're probably right im a little fish though they'll go after the maker

Mar 17, 2017 06:20 AM #123

@HawkInMizery

I don't believe you are in any jeopardy. You can get permission from KU to use the logo in most everything, I.e. licensing. You have to provide samples for approval and make they make sure all the details, such as color, are correct and meets certain standards before granting licensing rights and you have to keep track of sales to pay royalties. The process is long and expensive and only pays if you are selling a fair amount. A friend of mine made wall hangings with the logo made out of carpet and went through the process so I am somewhat familiar with it.

Given that a sneaker with the KU logo would compete with its biggest licensor, I would be surprised if the grant a license, particularly if it is a Nike sneaker that directly competes with Adidas. Really nice sneaker regardless.

Mar 17, 2017 03:54 PM #124

@Lulufulu

I rooted for UVM as well last night. I live in Southern Vermont! They played well, just came up short and the injury to Steidl didn't help. I thought Ernie Duncan missed some bad attempts. Lamb is good enough to play for anyone though. He stays 4 years and he's going to break a lot of records at the school

Mar 17, 2017 03:56 PM #125

@BeddieKU23

These days, some bigger program will try to get him for the final year via grad transfer...

Mar 17, 2017 03:58 PM #126

@BShark

He is a true freshman, unlikely he'll be eligible for that exception unless something happens. Surprised he flew under the radar, he was one of the finalists for NY state player of the year last season.

Mar 17, 2017 04:00 PM #127

@BeddieKU23

Tarik Black graduated in three years right? So it is possible.

And yeah, looks like a big whiff on the recruiting services, known to happen from time to time. Appeared to be in the 300 range for rankings.

Mar 17, 2017 04:02 PM #128

@BShark

Good point, I guess it's not impossible. I'm just stunned Lamb ended up at UVM. Always a solid American East school but Lamb is a definite step up in talent level from usual.

Mar 17, 2017 04:03 PM #129

@BeddieKU23

Interesting to think where Trey Burke or OG Anunoby would have ended up without the keen eye of Belein and Crean.

Mar 17, 2017 04:04 PM #130

Mar 17, 2017 04:11 PM #133

@BShark

Definitely, someone will give him a job

Mar 17, 2017 04:13 PM #134

@JayHawkFanToo Yup it's definitely a nike sneaker even came in the original nike box. I didn't even think about the fact that it was a nike shoe when i ordered it I just saw Jayhawk shoes and said i want! Lol

That is a pretty thorough process to go through and I agree I doubt the school would grant the license to Nike.

Mar 18, 2017 02:59 PM #137
