Big Game Bob is gone
Jun 07, 2017 08:01 PM #1

Stoops is stepping down at OU. I knew a guy that was a starter for him for 3 years, and he told me anytime they had a big game, Bob would run plays they had that they didn't normally use, and it would backfire on them.

HMMMM, why he stepping down? - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@KUSTEVE Big XII will miss him. I hope they picked right. 33 year old head coach of a top 5 program is a little ballsy.

Weird timing. Also, OU is a bit big for their britches.

Stoops has health issues based on his press release. This does potentially impact KU's coaching staff as well because QB coach Garrett Riley is Lincoln Riley's brother so it's at least a possibility Garrett heads to Norman to join his brother.

Huge hit to the OU football program. Some where Texas fans are rejoicing. I smell a scandal, why leave at this time? He said it wasn't due to health or family concerns. He has a stacked team that has the best shot to make the CFP of the B12. Anyway its a big hit to the conference, he is likely a top 5 coach among current coaches. Best of luck to him.

@kjayhawks Idk. I'd retire too at 56 if I was a multi-millionaire with a cushy Broadcast job waiting for me.

@kjayhawks Hope all we're whiffin is just a scandal & not a pending Big 12 implosion - certainly not a re-emergence in the little (road) apple after Snyder's eventual Exodus. There was a time when they were close friends... stay tuned.

@Kcmatt7 I would agree but 56 is super young for a head coach to retire, especially with a team that can make the CFP. @globaljaybird I think Ive got a better shot at a lottery win than him going to KSU. I highly doubt he'd go to another B12 school being at OU 18 years. People forget he is a grad of Iowa and was at Florida as a DC before he went to OU. I feel the same way about Self returning to OSU and no way KSU pays the nearly triple Snyders salary to get him. KSU athletics wants to be profitable first and for most.

@Texas-Hawk-10 From what I've seen from KU QB's the past few years, that may work in our favor.....

@KUSTEVE

Some possible reasons for Bob Stoops stooping, er, stepping down from OU.

  1. Finally read the brain injury research documenting the long term risks of playing football.

  2. Running for Senator of Oklahoma.

  3. Running for Governor of Oklahoma.

  4. Being kicked upstairs to Chancellor.

  5. Trying to get into a better spiritual place with football Jesus.

  6. Can't bear to suck up to another zit-faced recruit south of the Red River.

  7. Decided to accept Mercer's offer to replace Pence, after he replaces The Donald.

  8. Oklahoma may be OK, but the Dallas Cowboys have cheerleaders a coach can date legally.

  9. Wants to get back to coaching real football...in a Texas high school!!

  10. Doesn't want to have to explain what's going on in Washington to his players.

(Note: All fiction. No malice.)

@nuleafjhawk Might be valid if not for the fact Garrett Riley became QB coach during this off-season and therefore bears no responsibility for past QB performances in any season at KU.

@Texas-Hawk-10 lol - well, i guess that's why the other QB coaches are gone then
