Charlie Moore cut from Team USA tryouts.
Jun 21, 2017 10:00 AM #1

With Cal the coach he didn't have much of a chance.

Oh and Cal conveniently left his 3 current players on the team and every 2018 recruit made the cut that he's recruiting.. There is no coincidence in that.

Still a good experience for Moore who can now get back to campus and get ready for Italy

@BeddieKU23
Maybe he can respond like Mario and Company

Zero coincidences at all. Nothing to see here.

Ya that doesn't surprise us at all right? - - I mean like WHO could of ever seen that coming? - - -I wonder just how much input his assistants have a say in the matter, Danny is one of the Assistants, I'm betting not very much. -- How convienent for all the recruits he is after to make the cut. - - It's ok though it's called Karma, and it WILL come around - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@BeddieKU23

This sucks, but...

Charlie was ranked a 4-star as a recruit, despite being Illinois POY.

He's 5-10 in KU inches.

And Cal probably hasn't given a ride at PG to a 4-star recruit, since sometime before Derek Rose at Memphis.

Coaches play favorites for sure. But a 4-star player just wouldn't have a prayer getting picked over OAD and 5-star talent regardless.

KU has to break the apparent embargo on OAD and 5-star talent at the 1and 5.

Further, it appears KU may soon have to break a potentially emerging embargo on freshman.

Transfer U should NOT be the moniker of an elite major.

I think it was Self who said he didn't play great so not surprising that he missed the team if he didn't perform well. Kids in the past have used this experience positively.

The 2nd part of this is that Calipari is hand selecting every player that 'A) is either on his team currently and 'B) is actively being recruiting by him for the 2018 class.

Still 6 cuts to go but I have no doubt in my mind this will be a predominately UK flavored squad

@BeddieKU23

Charlie is an experienced PG--a great add.

Him doing well means Devonte can swing 1/2 and rest with fouls.

It means the PG is covered the following season.

It means prospects in Illinois have reason to watch us again.

It means Sherron can communicate.

All good.

But it also means Self could not sign an OAD, or 5-s, frosh at PG.

Self made lemonade.

Wish he did not have too.

My hope for Charlie is he has the qualities of the SMU player Self took to WUG.

@jaybate-1.0 Chalrie Moore can't play for KU this year because of the transfer rules.

Jun 22, 2017 02:50 PM #10

@jaybate-1-0 Nic Moore .. good guy that we can hope that Charlie will compare to. Same last name is a good start.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I believe he can play in Italy though.

Jun 22, 2017 04:10 PM #12

Now WHAT was the name of that coach whom Bill Self and Co. outwitted and defeated last season in Lexington, Kentucky? Didn't that guy play with the advantage of multiple 5 star Rivals top rated athletes, including a heralded point guard performer outclassed by Frank Mason that particular night?

Jun 22, 2017 04:13 PM #13

@Barney All the transfers can play in Italy because those aren't NCAA sanctioned games so Cunliffe and the Lawson's will play as well so long as they are healthy at that point.

@Texas-Hawk-10

So sad!!!

I was hoping he was a special case due to family illness, or something.

But since you appear confident he has to sit, then this is really worrisome.

Waiting a whole year just for a four star!!! Wow! Recruiting maybe suffering even more than it has appeared!

You've got to wonder about this situation. Self will have OAD/5-star starting minutes to give the season Moore is eligible, so Self appears to think he probably won't be able to sign better than a 4-star point guard this year or next!!! If there really IS no embargo, then this has to be the toughest run of bad recruiting luck at the point the last 10 years of any top coach at an elite major, right?

Really a tough break for Self at the peak of his professional career at an elite major NOT to be able to sign a reasonable share of the OAD/5-star point guards year in and year out.

@REHawk

Answer: Gianni Calipari.

There are two issues.

Issue 1 is whether Self can outcoach Cal frequently despite having less highly ranked players at the 1 and 5? The answer is yes.

Issue 2 is should Self tend to have to face Cal with players with less highly ranked players at the 1 and 5? The answer is no, unless there is an underlying, systemic bias in recruiting.

@HighEliteMajor

Thanks for the assist.

Nic Moore. Really thought he was a positive influence on Frank and Devonte. Always hoped Nic might be brought onto the KU staff in a beginner slot to extend Larry's coaching tree another generation.

Any idea where Nic is these days?

@Kcmatt7 do you know when svi starts playing? Or has he already started?

Jun 23, 2017 04:34 PM #19

Kentucky players/recruits on the U-19 roster. Diallo & Washington- freshman. Recruits, Quickley (rumored to be a done deal to UK), Romeo Langford, King (KU Targets), Reddish (Duke done deal).
