Kansas stays at home in week 2 to battle CMU of the MAC conference. The Chippewas last visited Lawrence in 2014 and lost 24-10 as Tony Pierson took the first play from scrimmage 70 plus yards to the house, not a ton players from ether team are still around from that game. CMU outlasted Rhode Island last Thursday in a triple overtime thrilller (30-27).RIU threw 6 ints and missed a chip shot fg for the win in the second ot after a CMU fumble. Offensively they are supposed to be sound as they return all starters across the line and 1,000 receiver Corey Willis. 4 year starter at QB Cooper Rush has graduated leaving Michigan transfer Shane Morris to run the show. I was able to watch most of their first game and wasn't impressed, Morris has a strong arm but barely completed 50% of his passes. They also have a running backing that's solid in Spaulding and a 6'7 QB in Poljan that can run effectively. It wil be interesting to see if we can get the run game going against a young defensive line and linebacker group, their strengths are in the safeties on D. I think the key for us to win is having a fast start and winning the turnover battle. Both teams left a lot on field in week one and CMU played Thursday so they have a jump on Kansas in prep. I think which ever team can make the biggest jump from week 1 to 2 wins the game. I'm going with Kansas 31-20, my player of the game is Dom Williams I think he gets a 80 yard game and 2 tds. I'm excited to say I'll be there in person Saturday!

KU 38-CMU 18.

I haven't gotten to watch either team play yet, so don't take my prediction too seriously.

Sep 07, 2017 04:34 PM #3

17-14. No clue which one wins a game with some good defenses but mistake-prone offenses.

Sep 07, 2017 05:42 PM #4

My prediction is more based off of where I think the program should be this year. We will have to handily beat CMU in order for me to feel like we can even beat someone in the Big XII this season.

CMU is picked to finish near the bottom of the MAC. So this, for most P5 schools, should be a cupcake. Even most of the bad P5 teams.

Sep 07, 2017 09:15 PM #5

@Kcmatt7 this is the same team that beat okie state a year ago so we can't over look them. But yes based on where we are currently and to keep moving forward, I feel it's a must win. If we can pull it off it will be our first 2-0 start since 2011 and 3 wins in a 4 game stretch since Mangino was on the sidelines.

Really big game today that will show the exact development of Coach Beaty's program. Are we competitive with a middle of the pack MAC team. We need Peyton Bender to be on target today and not throw any passes behind his receivers. Our receivers must step up on their routes and must refuse to allow a defender to intercept a pass. I hope Dom Williams gets the start. He certainly was our only running back last week who found a way to advance the ball. Let's get it done 'Hawks.

Sep 09, 2017 08:02 PM #10

I've got the pregame on now and I wish I was there. Very important game for Coach Beaty.

Sep 09, 2017 08:25 PM #11

Well, first drive sucked.

Sep 09, 2017 08:57 PM #12

Same old same old....

Sep 09, 2017 09:03 PM #13

Bender cannot make throws like that. KU simply isn't good enough to overcome bad giveaways like that.

Sep 09, 2017 09:09 PM #14

Of course that ball doesn't go into the end zone.

Sep 09, 2017 09:16 PM #15

Wheels are wobbling, how long before they come off?

Sep 09, 2017 09:30 PM #16

Within 4 pts of a MAC school. PROGRESS.... :poop:

Sep 09, 2017 09:30 PM #17

Could this team look any uglier in a half? - -I mean come on simple field go attempt - -false start - -have to call a time out, dam I mean come on - -UGLY. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 09:30 PM #18

Alright, 10-6. Our offensive line must do better. C Mich's defensive line in dominating our's.

Sep 09, 2017 09:31 PM #19

@Texas-Hawk-10 Bender is a interception looking for a place to happen. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 09:33 PM #20

Morris is REALLY good when he has time to set his feet. Gotta get pressure.

Sep 09, 2017 09:34 PM #21

CMU giving KU a gift running bootlegs with Morris. Kid can't throw on the run. But then....KU commits a dumbass penalty....

Sep 09, 2017 09:34 PM #22

Another big penalty against us. WT_ heck. We keep killing ourselves.

Sep 09, 2017 09:35 PM #23

@BShark Na not really sure he is that good or our Defense is just really bad. -- -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Overall is he great? Maybe not. But trust me he is very good when he can set his feet and have a clean pocket. So, maybe a bit of a practice warrior but will look good when the other team can't get pressure on him.

Sep 09, 2017 09:36 PM #25

Whew, Wise gets to stay in the game!

Sep 09, 2017 09:38 PM #26

lol

Sep 09, 2017 09:39 PM #27

Btw have they said why Sims isn't playing on offense?

Sep 09, 2017 09:40 PM #28

@BShark When your getting all day to throw anyone can look good, all I heard from the announcers was how our defensively line should dominate their O- line - right now we are getting our asss beat like a drum medicore team play like this and OMG look out for BIG 12 play - -period - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 09:41 PM #29

His arm talent is pretty good. So, he's going to look better than some others with a clean pocket. He certainly looks better than Bender.

Sep 09, 2017 09:42 PM #30

@BShark Pretty sure Sims injured his ankle last week.

Sep 09, 2017 09:42 PM #31

@Texas-Hawk-10 Thanks.

Sep 09, 2017 09:42 PM #32

@jayballer54 This mediocre team has beat Big 12 teams before...

Sep 09, 2017 09:47 PM #33

Hampton is a bigger liability than Bender at this point. I don't care if it's cheating at this point, put some stick em on his hands.

Sep 09, 2017 09:51 PM #34

Call a freaking blitz! Can't keep dropping 7 or 8 guys, our secondary outside of Lee isn't good enough to cover for 5+ seconds. Send 5 or 6 and force the QB into some mistakes.

Sep 09, 2017 09:52 PM #35

Someone said sims was in on special teams, I didn't see him.

Sep 09, 2017 09:57 PM #36

@BShark I could give a rats ass about this mediocre team beating OTHER big 12 teams I only am concerned about KU. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 09:59 PM #37

Can ANYONE name one positive thing to come from this 1st half? Bender has had a chance to throw more innerceptions in this game there was two others very easily could of been picked , - --ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 10:08 PM #38

@jayballer54 One good thing is we don't have to worry about our run defense getting lit up this year. Our secondary is going to be torched all year long.

Sep 09, 2017 10:10 PM #39

Here is a news flash for ya, when you give up 324 yds of offense in a half - -267 yds passing in a half umm your not going to win very many games. - -Wee knew our defensive back field was going to be a weakness BUT when our D_LINE which was suppose to be a strength and get nothing giving a QB all day to throw hard to put the blame on D backfield.

Offensively Bender is doing what I was afraid he was going to do lot of terrible throws to many bad decisions anyones guess how many INT"S he will end up with on the season. - -Sorry but if you can call this anything but ugly - - -GOOD LUCK - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 10:12 PM #40

@Texas-Hawk-10 lmao, Yep that's for sure, any time you give an opposition QB time enough to make a picnic lunch be able to spread a blanket down abd have time to eat that lunch - -you got problems, the best Defensive backfield in the Nation gonna have problems covering anyone for 5-6-7 seconds

Sep 09, 2017 10:16 PM #41

someone at the stadium might want to sneak into the locker room and give Clint a little heads up - - might want to make some adjustments on the defensive side of the ball. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 10:19 PM #42

Let's go, Jayhawks.

Took me some effort to find a stream to watch this up in BC, Canada.

Sep 09, 2017 10:20 PM #43

Here we go.

Sep 09, 2017 10:21 PM #44

Uh Oh we scored - -can we get some defense? - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 10:36 PM #45

Different half - - different team - -so far, buckle down guys - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 10:42 PM #46

Might as well not rush more than three guys

Sep 09, 2017 10:47 PM #47

Key penalities just killin us. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 11:01 PM #48

Dbacks playing way to soft

Sep 09, 2017 11:11 PM #49

This one is over barring a miracle. Looks like our boys aren't quite where we thought they might be. Defense is soft.

Offenense does look much better this season though. Still a ways away from being able to compete physically is the problem now. Adneji isn't good at LT at this weight. He looks really small out their. And everyone else is just kind of meh. Nothing dynamic at RB. WRs are solid as a group. Bender looks like he is the real deal. Just need some more around him.

It looks like another 2 win season at best. Beaty only gets this last season as a freebie. If we don't take a major step forward next year I'll be very concerned. This game was a good reality check to a lot of us, I think. Which is good. This helped to reset my expectations to be more reasonable. I expected more, but that's my fault for not realizing just how deep the hole is that we are trying to climb out of.

Sep 09, 2017 11:31 PM #50

@Kcmatt7 no sims or lee doesn't help

Sep 09, 2017 11:34 PM #51

If a player is looking for a career day, play against our KU defense, you have your wish. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Sep 09, 2017 11:36 PM #52

Seem to be some serious mental issues with the dbacks. That last TD was inexcusable

Sep 09, 2017 11:37 PM #53

If we score every possession, we might win a few games.

Sep 10, 2017 02:29 AM #54

@Crimsonorblue22 Those two aren't the reason we got beat at home by 18... nor were those the problems I emphasized. Our entire D is soft minus 3 players. And that talk of best dline in the Big XII was proven wrong today.

We don't have any explosive players. With Quiv gone, I'm not sure we have a player who can take one to the house. That's a problem. Our running backs are below average. Our O line is atrocious and very undersized. Poor Bender won't make it through the entire season healthy, no doubt about that.

With that all being said, the offense looked like it was somewhat organized and the play calling seemed fine to me. It's about recruiting and talent development at this point. If Beaty can't do that well enough, now is the time to make a move and let a new coach recruit to the bigger better facilities we are going to have in the next couple of seasons

Awful game!
