Kentucky Down To Three Guards
Oct 31, 2017 08:51 PM #1

Jemarl Baker out at least 3 months due to a knee surgery.

Oct 31, 2017 08:53 PM #2

Dang, for whatever reason when I clicked I thought it was Kansas instead of Kentucky. We are the ones with three post players.

Oct 31, 2017 09:27 PM #3

@BShark

Omg!They are down to three 5-stars on the perimeter?

2 5 stars and a 4 star actually. Then walk-ons.

I heard that baker was going to be out a while. They are still really long though. Had a close game against more head state - apparently more head spread the floor and UK had trouble matching up against their smaller players.

The big issue for them is he was their best shooting guard, by a lot. Diallo and Green are close to non-shooters. Also it's 3 guys for 120 minutes! I mean, in reality they are going to just have to play large or play a walk-on.

Oct 31, 2017 10:51 PM #7

@BShark we would be a huge matchup problem if we play small. Rebounding may be an issue. Zone may be effective just like last year at rupp.

Oct 31, 2017 11:07 PM #8

@BShark maybe cal jr will have to play!

Nov 01, 2017 02:19 AM #9

@Crimsonorblue22 There is 1 and only 1 Cal, Jr. A certain Oriole. No KY imposter is worthy of the name....

Nov 01, 2017 02:24 AM #10

@mayjay you lost me

Nov 01, 2017 02:26 AM #11

@Crimsonorblue22 Cal Ripkin, Jr.?

How many 5 stars does KU have at guard this season?

Nov 01, 2017 02:30 AM #13

@jaybate-1.0 One, I think.

Nov 01, 2017 02:32 AM #14

KU has 5 really good guards.

Nov 01, 2017 02:33 AM #15

@mayjay oh, duh!

Lol I was thinking Carl's Jr.

Yes, but I did not ask how many really good guards KU had.

Let me think.

Ah, yes.

I asked how many 5 stars?

It seems like UK, even after injury depletion, still has double the 5-Star guards, at least according to @mayjay.

Hmmm.

How many more 5-star guards did UK have before injury depletion? I haven’t heard.

Does UK have any OAD 5-Star guards this season?

@Crimsonorblue22 It is one of those names that I think are unique in the memories they evoke of excellent performances, grit, and excitement. Anyone who names their kid Calvin who is a Jr. should be shot. We need no more Wilts, or Tigers, or Usains, for that matter.... @jaybate-1-0 would probably include Honus and Ty, too, since he saw them play--in wool, of course!

Nov 01, 2017 02:44 AM #19

@chriz Now I am hungry and no burger anywhere.... thanks a lot!

I NEVER LIKED TY COBB, BECAUSE OF HIS RACISM and filing his cleats. But his batting average was awesome. And yes, I love the Tigers old uniforms. I have wondered how long his statue will last at New Tiger stadium. Probably as long as the lead in the pipes of Flint’s heavily African American neighborhoods right? Say! Hil and Trump haven’t been back to Flint since the election! I’ve always wondered about Trump’s DC Lawyer, Ty Cobb. How far we have come....or have we?

I did some law school clinical work in child protection cases in Flint in 1980. It was grim then, and it is grim now. The water situation is a national disgrace. So, what do Flint and Puerto Rico's crises have in common?

Nov 01, 2017 03:45 AM #23

@mayjay better question is, how did we go from talking about Kentucky's guards to water situations?

Nov 01, 2017 09:34 AM #24

I read an article that said shooting would not be a weakness for them. Power puff piece if I've ever seen one. Apparently one game where Shai and Green shoot okay was enough to remove the doubt. Baker wasn't going to play big minutes but he figured to play 10-12 minutes a game as a spot up shooter which in the flow of the game would have meant 1-2 3's possibly which is significant to their offense.

Nov 01, 2017 10:40 AM #25

Nov 01, 2017 10:50 AM #26

@HawkChamp Like lots of conversations, one aside led to another...dangerous, perhaps, to listen to me and @jaybate-1-0.

@HighEliteMajor Wow, that is a toughie, I guess. But I have strayed far afield. Let us just say, to get back on track, that their water problems are more intractable than the UK guard situation, because Calimari always has more future resources in his pipeline.

Yeah, lol, ok.

Where can I find the companion piece about how KU has great post depth? :laughing:

Are we surprised, they are still getting Grimes. And when they don't get him will say Cal passed on him for a better player. We know how the math goes.

But yeah I heard our post depth is the best we've had in Self's era

Nov 01, 2017 01:30 PM #29

Of course, UK fans think they are getting everyone until they don't. I literally saw an IF Bol ends up at Oregon article on one of their sites recently. If? Okay sure...

Probably somewhere about 5 to 6 months ago when we thought Coleby and Whatzisname would be here.

Nov 01, 2017 02:39 PM #31

@mayjay Yeah, we could use either one of them tbh. I still think Self needs to fool around and try to find another big body.

Someone on the phog mentioned TE James Sosinski played JUCO hoops and had some D1 offers.

Nov 01, 2017 08:22 PM #37

@jaybate-1.0 It was my question that, as was aptly pointed out, was far afield from this thread, so I chose not to pursue it.

Nov 01, 2017 08:37 PM #38

@jaybate-1.0

As @mayjay pointed out, the answer falls outside sports and would have to be moved the political section. That is your clue.

Nov 01, 2017 08:46 PM #39

If we get into politics, it's a lead pipe cinch that it will turn into a mess.

Nov 01, 2017 08:53 PM #40

@JayHawkFanToo

Are you suggesting @mayjay was insinuating an answer, but willingly avoiding answering the question either in this thread, or under the politics subheading? That seems an unfair and possibly unintentionally misleading implication of @mayjay? I believe you can do better.

How bout dem Jayhawks....winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Nov 01, 2017 10:46 PM #46

@jaybate-1.0

As tempting as it is, I have purposefully avoided the political section (I bet most of us have) since I believe it has been a net negative to this forum and has created animosity between members that did not exist before. I prefer to just talk about KU sports, particularly basketball which is the primary reason many of us moved to this forum. Just my opinion and I don't expect others to agree with me.
